TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What makes San Francisco so foggy?

Where is the foggiest place in America?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -

How do salmon find their way home to where they
were hatched?

Scientists do not exactly know how salmon know to go
back to their birthplace to spawn. They hypothesize that
when they are born, they remember the "taste" of the water
or they remember other patterns. Some experts believe salmon
use scent to guide them. After years of swimming around in
the ocean, these fish can still find their way back to the exact
location where they were born.

Why didn't explorer Sir Francis Drake discover the
San Francisco harbor?

The water was so covered in fog that Drake missed it. It
was finally discovered about 200 years later by
Spanish explorers.

Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

Stopping to pick up my daughter at kindergarten, I
found out that the topic of show and tell that day had
been parents' occupations. The teacher pulled me
aside. Whispering, she advised, "You might want to
explain a little bit more to your daughter what you do
for a living."

I work as a training consultant and often conduct my
seminars in motel conference rooms.

When I asked why, the teacher explained, "Your daughter
told the class she wasn't sure what you did, but said
you got dressed real pretty and went to work at
motels."

A cute and innocent situation, right? It happens all
the time. Yet it points out something we should all
know.

We must learn to separate the stuff others need not
know because it is our business, and the stuff others
need to know in order to do their thing right.

I have met and worked with some very tight lipped
bosses who feel that all you need to know is what is
required for your job. Big mistake. True leadership
wants all employees to know the bigger goals, and where
each of them fits in. It is important for a person to
understand exactly where they fit and how important
they are to the organization.

The same is true within families and other groups. If
you don't want to tell some of them the deep inner
workings of the financial condition, that is okay. Most
people in most groups don't have to know that. But they
do have to know their leaders are human and that their
leaders care about them.

Failure to keep those around you informed will for sure
develop into problems. Keeping folks informed will keep
them interested and telling the world the right
information. Otherwise it's ...

Aneurysms
A Leak In Your Circulatory System
PART 5 of 9

An abdominal aortic aneurysm involves a widening, stretching, or
ballooning of the aorta. As the aorta gets progressively larger
over time there is increased chance of rupture. Aortic
(heart/abdominal) aneurysms occur in this main artery leading
away from the heart. They are usually located in the abdomen
below the kidneys, but can also be found in the thoracic (chest)
cavity. This defect can happen if the wall of the aorta becomes
weakened by build-ups of fatty deposits called plaque. This
condition is called atherosclerosis. There are several causes of
abdominal aortic aneurysm, but the most common result from
atherosclerotic disease. Aneurysms may also be due to an
inherited disease such as the Marfan syndrome. Marfan syndrome
is an inheritable disorder of connective tissue (which adds
strength to the bodies structures) that affects the skeletal and
cardiovascular systems, and the eyes, and skin. The main health
threat for people with Marfan syndrome is cardiovascular
complications. (Doctors performing sports physicals or general
exams may suspect Marfan syndrome in tall children whose arm
span exceeds their height.)

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

What Mae and Susan really wanted to do was to
visit the great monastery above Lhasa. They did
not fully know what the condition was there but
they would try.

So on the trudged, one foot placed down after
the other. Sometimes they were climbing and at
others they were going downhill but if one was to
assess their general elevation Mae would say they
were lower at the end of the day than they were at
the beginning.

These passes were high. The one they just came
through was over 16,000 feet. No wonder breathing
was hard.

The land defines the people. Mae could not be
more intrigued as she made this trip. She recalled
the marketplace in that Chinese city so very far
away now. She remembered how the climate was more
temperate, although they did get monsoons. The
people there went about their daily lives
concerning themselves about getting food and
increase their possessions. They never traveled or
went very far. Their entire life was spent within
a radius of less than five blocks.

Up here the Mongols were nomads. They like to
travel, especially on horseback. They would travel
miles and so long as a man had a good horse he
worried only about getting his food for himself
and his family. Family was very important to these
people. They well knew that was the only way men
survived here. And it was the only way the race
would continue. A great deal of emphasis was
placed on family. That is one of the reasons they
could stand being cooped up in their gers for such
long periods in the winter.

And the group was close. You saw no orphans
here. If that situation ever occurred, by accident
or otherwise, the child was immediately taken in
by another family and loved as if one of that
family. No one felt sorry for anyone up here. Life
just was. It existed and as the seasons came and
left there was no coloring it good or bad. It was
accepted and dealt with. That is another of the
reasons family was important.
It was no surprise to Mae and Sue that Ng
wanted to return to his family. They were the
motivating factors in his life. He had a good
family and was well respected within his clan. So
were each member of his family.

His children were good with horses and had won
many of the summer races.

Ng was sacrificing his time by coming up her
to guide these ladies. He did it out of a sense of
obligation and gratitude for what they had done to
help him through the winter. He also did it out of
his now profound respect for these two ladies. He
admired them and they had won a not too easy to
get place within his heart.

The evening was beginning to settle into the
mountains. They stopped when they found a place to
bed down for the night.

"What you do when you leave the Forbidden
City?"

"It was our intention to go south to India, to
New Delhi actually. Then we don't know what we
will do. We might just go back to our homes and
enjoy the memories. We can come back to visit once
in a while and we will do that. But in truth we
haven't really made up our minds. We have been
away from home now a couple years. It is time we
returned, I think." Susan was doing some thinking
out loud.

She was a changed person. Not only from living
by higher law but from this trip. She had seen the
world first hand, and its people. She was
toughened up and had a tan. She was a very healthy
woman and had come to love life in ways she never
thought possible. This trip had been good for her.
It also gave her a bond with Mae that was deep and
everlasting.

For her part Mae was the same as Sue. This
trip had changed her as well. She, too, was no
longer the soft beauty queen who had married a man
who thought money was the only way of life. She
knew better. Living by higher law could have made
her even softer but she, too, has come to enjoy
this traveling and it most certainly caused her to
be in the finest of health. For a woman her age
she was quite a specimen.

Ng admired the way these ladies took on the
challenge of life. Not once did he hear a
complaint from them. They, like he, accepted what
was and dealt with it. He admired that in anyone.
He was happy to be guiding these two. They were
good company.

They all slept the pure and wonderful sleep of
those in good shape, who were tired. This land was
silent but for the winds and there was little that
made noises in the night. Possibly some ice
shifting on nearby glaciers, but otherwise it was
silent, with an aloneness that was beautiful.

HA! HA! HA!

"I want to be good!" declared the thief to the priest.
"Could you forgive someone who steals $30?"

"Yes, but you must tell me about this theft," says the priest.

"Well", said the crook, "there was $10 from Woolworth's
yesterday, and $10 from Wal-Mart today."

"But that only makes $20", said the priest.

"Oh", said the crook, "I'll be getting the other $10 from
Michael's tomorrow..."
