Where is the rainiest place in the world?
Bet you thought it was in the Amazon. It's in the United States.
Mount Waialeale, on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, gets more
rain than anywhere else in the world. It rains up to 350 days
per year. One year, Mount Waialeale received 950 inches
(over 79 feet!) of rain.
What is a chimera?
In science, a "chimera" is a hybrid plant or animal. The word
can also mean an illusion of the mind or something that is
fantastic or improbable. Both meanings reflect the mythological
creature the word is based on. In Greek mythology, the Chimera
was a fire-breathing she-monster with the head of a lion, the
body of a goat, and the tail of a serpent.

What's Fair For The Goose - - -!
by Ken Darby
Driving to town this morning on the Interstate, I looked
over to my left and there was a woman in a brand
new Mustang doing 65 miles per hour with her face
up next to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner!
I looked away for a couple seconds and when I looked
back she was halfway over in my lane, still working on
that damn makeup!
It scared me so bad, I dropped my electric shaver, which
knocked the donut out of my other hand. In all the
confusion of trying to straighten out the car using my
knees against the steering wheel I knocked my cell
phone away from my ear and it fell into the coffee
between my legs and DISCONNECTED AN
IMPORTANT CALL!
Damn Women Drivers!
Well! You know how it is! I can drive down the road
doing these things because "I" know what "I" am
doing - right? But don't put a lady driver in front of
me, beside me or anywhere near me.
I thought this little joke was funny because of it's
reality and the stupidity it revealed. It is a predjudice.
That is what it is - just another ignorant
predjudice.
However, worse yet is the fact that so many males
carry this attitude into the home, the workplace,
recreation and anywhere else they feel they can get
away with the foolish power-trip thing.
This is the twenty first century. We long ago left tribal
ways behind us, yet it is those who hang on to those
ways that are causing much of the worlds trouble.
Part of that attitude is this one about the subservience
of women. While I have no real idea where this attitude
came from, though potentially from those ancient biblical
times we spoke of yesterday, it must surely be clear how
foolish and ignorant it is.
One day, with your help, we will come to understand that
all human beings ARE EQUAL. They are to be treated
equally, paid equally, respected equally and equally
enjoyed.
I am fully aware of the natural propensities, animal
nature, of the human species. I fully understand that man
is the hunter and woman is basically the mother. I know
we all have abilities and leanings that go along with
those propensities. Yet, where does that mean one is
greater or better that the other. It simply means we have
different talents and abilities.
That, when in the hands of the right men and women,
spells the ingredients of teamwork.
If you join the military, one can become an infantryman
and another can become a radio operator. Each is
important to the overall success of the unit.
So too, with the male female thing. Treat it that way.
I once was told to appreciate the garbage man. A wise
man saw that, in my youthful ignorance, I was acting as
if I was better than he. Have you ever been around when
the garbageman hasn't been there for weeks and
weeks? As far as I am concerned he is one of societies
greatest assetts.
You must watch, you see, what your attitudes are for
they might reach up one day and slap you right in the
face, proffering results you do not want.

Aneurysms
A Leak In Your Circulatory System
PART 7 of 9
WHAT TREATMENT IS GIVEN? Surgical intervention with patches or
excision if possible is generally recommended. The timing and
indications for surgery differ depending on the type of
aneurysm. Brain aneurysms are generally treated surgically. A
metal clip is secured around the base of the aneurysm. Another
type of treatment involves 'packing' the aneurysm with small,
flexible wire coils. These are placed into the aneurysm using a
catheter (thin flexible hollow tube). Patches or artificial
pieces of blood vessel are also used to repair and reinforce the
defect where the aneurysm was. If no problems are noted with
aneurysms, they will be left alone. Once in a long while, a
series of multiple leaks occurs. Medical intervention will be
done appropriately using all sorts of technologies. If you use
the analogy of the garden hose, the concept is similar. You need
to fix the leak so the life-giving blood gets to its destination
and "life goes on".

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

Movement was slow and tedious. They couldn't
take a step without it being either up of down and
often that up or down movement required many steps
as the distance would be as much as three or four
feet.
Looking out over the new field of rock was
quite a sight. There was a strange "levelness" to
it. While it was rocky and walking it meant a lot
of climbing up and down, when you looked out over
the field it appeared as level as if it had been
raked.
The mountain from which this avalanche had
come was now a somewhat flat surface going
straight up, but the peak was now much lower.
The travelers appeared as mere specks upon the
gigantic field of rock. There did not appear to be
a right or wrong way. No route visible to the eye
looked as if it was easier than any other. it was
all boulders that had to be scaled or
circumvented.
The rock was rough with sharp edges. It
grabbed and tore at flesh. It wanted to rip
clothes and it was hard on footwear.
The trio was thankful for the warmer day. It
aided their journey.
Travel was slow. They knew that if they didn't
pick up speed, somehow, they would be caught in
this rock field come nightfall.
They had been out here all day, climbing up
and down, attempting to transverse the new
condition.
Ng was surprised. They were the first ones
over this new area. He would have much to tell
other travelers. The rock field was at least four
good days walk from any rest area or places where
there might be people. He and the two ladies alone
knew of the new barrier to movement up in these
mountains.
They had just cleared the big field of
boulders when the light of day was getting dim.
They still had a good half mile left of smaller
rock and gravel that identified the edges of the
avalanche. Walking was easier here, at least they
didn't have any climbing to do.
By the time they reached the untouched valley
below the avalanche it was full dark. They found a
place and sat down to eat. They sat around a small
fire and talked of their day. It had been some
event. It took them all day to cross the
avalanche, a distance no greater than two miles.
Travel was tough in this land.
Yet life was interesting every day. This was
no exception. Having been the first to cross the
avalanche put Ng in a unique position. He was
looking forward, even excited, to talk about it to
travelers he would meet on the way.
They slept well that night. They were once
more exhausted.
Another bright morning. The days were becoming
warmer with each one passing. It was now at a
point where Mae and Susan felt no need for an
environmental shield. The days themselves were
warm enough.
Travel this day would be easy. Ng said they
had to ford a stream, the same stream, about three
times that day. Their feet would again become wet
and cold, but not at all like the day they hiked
all day in the stream. This stream was a different
one. It was now flowing with them rather than
against them. Fording it was only necessary
because the trail crisscrossed it.
From place to place they came across little
"islands" of soil in which grew little flowers.
These brought insects and they brought more birds.
As the trio was walking they were losing
elevation. They could feel it. And as they lost
elevation the temperature warmed and more soil and
vegetation began to appear.
All these things were tell tale signs they
were coming down out of the mountains. While it
would be days before they were out of them these
little patches of earth were the precursors of
warmer climes.
At the end of the day they again found a spot
to rest for the night and again had a fire. This
pattern was now almost a ritual. Ng enjoyed it.
"Tomorrow you dress and act like Mongol women.
We come to border check station. If we are lucky
we will not be stopped."
"We can do you one better, Ng. We can become
invisible. They will never see us. That would mean
you would be traveling alone. Would they accept
that?"
"Yes. That be better, but how you do this?"
"Never mind. At the first sight of the post
both Sue and I will become invisible, even to you.
You will look like you are traveling by yourself.
We will not even leave footprints. You will have
to go on alone trusting we are there. Once you are
out of earshot you can speak to us but you will
not be able to see us until we are out of sight of
the post."

HA! HA! HA!
A man was driving along a rural road, one day, when
he saw a three-legged chicken. He was amused enough
to drive along side it for a while.
As he was driving, he noticed the chicken was running
30 mph. "Pretty fast chicken," he thought, "I wonder just
how fast it can run." So, he sped up and the chicken
did, too!
They were, now, moving along the road at 45 mph!
The man in the car sped up, again. To his surprise,
the chicken was still running ahead of him at
60 mph!
Suddenly, the chicken turned off the road and ran
down a long driveway, leading to a farmhouse. The
man followed the chicken to the house and saw
a man in the yard, and dozens of three-legged chickens.
The man in the car called out to the farmer, "How did
you get all these three-legged chickens?"
The Farmer replies "Well you see I love drumsticks,
my wife loves drumsticks and my son loves drumsticks.
We were always fighting over the drumsticks because
there were never enough. So I bred these here
three-legged chickens so we could all be happy."
John: "Well, tell me, how does a three-legged chicken taste?"
Farmer: "Dunno, haven't been able to catch one yet."
