--------------
What is semaphore signaling?
It's a system of visual signaling by two flags held one in
each hand. Basically, a person can convey letters of the
alphabet based on the waving of a pair of hand-held flags in
a particular pattern. The flags are held, arms extended, in
various positions representing each of the letters of the
alphabet. The pattern resembles a clock face divided into
eight positions: up, down, out, high, low, for each of the left and
right hands. Six letters require the hand to be brought across the
body so that both flags are on the same side.
When is semaphore signaling used?
The flags are used to communicate at sea. Officially known as
the "International Code of Signals," they were established in 1901,
evolving out of earlier British signaling systems such as
Marryat's Code and the Commercial Code. Slightly revised over
the years, they are recognized by all nations and continue to play
a significant role in naval and merchant shipping.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
-----------------
Persistence, Insistence, Persistence!
All day I have been fighting the urge to quit and take the
day off. Wouldn't it be nice?
Yet, discipline says "keep at it. Work first, play later" That
is the code I have lived by all my life. So when do these
habits leave and we enter into that utopia where, and
girls this is a guy thing - "we have a girl in one hand and
a keg of beer in the other?" You ladies will have to tell
me what your "utopia" is.
Do you know the real answer to this question?
When you learn to control your own life - that's when.
Boy! Sounds rough doesn't it? Sometimes truth has a
sour taste. Sometimes we must remove the
"rose colored glasses".
What is going on here?
Do you ever have trouble reconciling your knowledge
of your ability to think with the instruction "take no thought
for your life"?
In recent issues we have written on how you are to be
empowered from within. We have suggested that once
you meet, acknowledge and like the "real you" that lives
just under the surface of your thoughts then you will be
empowered and you end up working on instructions
you receive from "within".
Once you go there that empowerment keeps you working
as if on a quest. It is power that keeps you going. Once
the goal is set, by you in the still quiet reaches of your
own self, then this power takes over.
Will you ever have days like I mentioned above? Yes,
you will. Those are the days you lose touch with your
"inner self" and force yourself to work man's way. Those
are the days you failed to get "centered" first. And that
is the clue to overcoming this lethargy that hits once
in a while.
Persistence, Insistence, Persistence! is the
title of this article - but where, on the job?
No!. Be persistent and insistent on going deep inside
to find the "real you". If you would find power, riches,
happiness, security and contentment - go inside.
Remember, part of the admonition is the
promise " . . and all these things shall be added
unto you."
Persistence, Insistence, Persistence!

Diabetic Clinics And A Few
Concerns To Share
PART 5 of 6
Another concern I had was the lack of or incorrect
knowledge when it comes to low fat or calorie reduced
foods and artificial sweeteners. Know they are more
chemicals. (For an interesting but scary project,
document every item including pills you put into your
mouth throughout the day. Then eliminate the chemicals
from the good (healthy ingredients) and see what is
left over.) Do some serious research. Again there are
good alternatives to use as substitutes for sweeteners
that do not add to the chemical load in your body. The
same goes for salt substitutes and fat reduced
products. Your body needs what are called essential
fatty acids Both 3 & 6. They are like lubricants to
your joints and cells. Your car wouldnt go far without
oil: your body cant either. Your body actually seems
to seize up. So find out about trans fatty acids,
hydrogenated fats, saturated fats, poly and
mono-unsaturated fats, and other terms. Take your
glasses when you shop. You HAVE to read labels!
Current research focuses on the ingredients of your
blood irritating or inflaming the inner linings of the
blood vessel. This is called oxidative stress do a
search in Google for the term. Or visit this website
http://www.bionutrition.org
A word of caution. As you search through a site, be
aware of the sponsors. It will give you a good
indication of their perspective. No exceptions.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Ng was not in good shape when he returned to
the inn. He was drunk, could hardly walk and
needed the help of a man he met at the drinking
establishment.
Ng was not a man taken to drink except on
occasions, such as this one. He would not become
drunk except maybe once every four or five years.
It held temporary fun for him and he was always
sorry the following days for having erred.
He had no moral conviction about drinking, he
just did not participate because of the effects it
had on his body.
The next day when Mae and Susan rose there was
no sign of Ng in the restaurant. They had their
breakfast and still no sign of Ng. Both the women
knew what had happened.
They decided to go out and do some more sight
seeing, the idea being they would check back at
around noon to see if Ng was all right.
They strolled about the city going into the
newer parts. They were quite surprised at the
modern architecture, new buildings and tourist
facilities. Lhasa was now completely open to
tourists and it was a thriving center. The people
wore their traditional clothing and foreigners
wore their usual clothing. The two were easily
identifiable and easy to separate.
There was a military presence in Lhasa, but
much less than anticipated. Lhasa was the center
of the autonomous government of the region. The
people showed no signs of any oppressive
government, quite the contrary. They were a happy,
productive and prosperous people.
Noon had come around and the ladies returned
to the inn. There was Ng sitting at a table in the
restaurant, looking not so perky. He had lost his
usual bounce and zest for life. He looked ill. His
movements were anything but fast and he appeared
as if he was going to return to bed.
"Well, it looks like you had yourself a night.
You look rode hard and put away wet."
Ng said nothing. He looked at the two women
and smiled the smile that said "Keep off my back.
I know I did wrong and I'm paying the price so
leave me alone."
Mae and Susan laughed out loud. They teased
him mercilessly. By the time the pair of them were
done Ng was absolutely certain he would never
drink again, at least not with these two around.
He was ashamed, embarrassed and sick. All
those added up to being miserable and wanting to
be left alone.
"No way, Ng. You played now you must pay. Come
we will go for a walk. It will make you feel
better." Susan not only made the request, she
insisted. She took his arm and as he was too weak
to resist, she hauled him out into the brilliant
sunshine. Ng had to squint to save his eyes from
the brightness.
His head was throbbing. The last thing he
needed was anything that increased his pulse. This
walk was doing that. His head ached as if someone
was hitting it "inside" with a mallet.
Neither Mae nor Sue had any mercy on him. Self
inflicted misery by way of drink was not
acceptable in any crowd, neither funny. They would
push Ng to the point where he would completely
comprehend the foolishness and the price of drink.
They walked, again into the new city. Ng had
not been to this part of Lhasa. Beyond being
continually aware of his headache he was surprised
and this new bustling and modern city. It was a
completely foreign sight to him and one in which
he was not comfortable.
However, just as the ladies had assumed, the
further they walked the better Ng began to look.
He was wearing off the effects of the fermented
beverages he had consumed last night. He may well
still have a headache but his countenance revealed
he was coming around.
Sure enough, near supper Ng became aware his
headache had disappeared. Funny thing with the
body, you can sure feel the pain when it is there
but one is never really conscious of it when it is
gone. That is to say when the pain leaves and one
begins to feel normal again one forgets about the
pain and doesn't even remember it. It can
disappear without one even realizing.
So much for that day. It was spent getting Ng
back on his feet. "Do you want to go out alone
again tonight, Ng?"
"No, not ever. I don't know why I did that. My
father used to do it every time he came to Lhasa.
I guess I am following in his footsteps."
"Well, let's go get us some supper. Then we
can have an early evening and get set for
tomorrow. I want to go to the Palace tomorrow."
Susan was ever the tourist.
