How are fish in a school able to change direction so quickly?
Fish in a school travel in harmony at nearly uniform distances
from one another. They do this by adjusting themselves to the
tiny vortices or whirlpools that other fish leave in their wake.
Staying outside the currents left by other fish makes
swimming easier. Fish sense these currents as they move
and are able to make rapid directional changes.
How thick is the ice in Antarctica?
Don't worry about falling through THIS ice. Antarctica is covered
with an ice sheet approximately 6,500 feet thick.

_______________
We Do Make Assumptions!
A redneck walks into a bar in Texas, orders three mugs
of Budweiser and sits in the back of the room, drinking
a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them,
he comes back to the bar and orders three more.
The bartender approaches and tells him, "You know, a
mug goes flat after I draw it, it would taste better if
you bought one at a time."
The redneck replies, "Well, you see, I have two
brothers. One is in Australia, the other is in Dublin,
and I'm in Texas. When we all left home, we promised
that we'd drink this way to remember the days we drank
together.
So I drink one for each o'my brothers and one for
myself." The bartender admits that this is a nice
custom, and leaves it there.
The redneck becomes a regular in the bar, and always
drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks
them in turn.
One day, he comes in and orders two mugs. All the
regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes
back to the bar for the second round, the bartender
says, "I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I
wanted to offer my condolences on your loss."
The redneck looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a
light dawns and he laughs. "Oh, no, everybody's just
fine," he explains, "It's just that my wife had us join
that Baptist Church and I had to quit drinking. Hasn't
affected my brothers though."
I love a joke that comes at you sideways with a lesson
attached. How many times do we end up with our foot in
our mouth because we "assumed" something only to find
we were completely wrong?
When they are jokes they can be funny. But what about
some assumptions in life?
In my youth and early twenties and thirties I assumed
that life would go on like it was forever.
That is to say I knew there were deeper meanings to
life and I was searching, all over the world, in fact.
Yet I was overlooking something. I assumed what I was
looking for would be some outside thing I had to go
find. I was assuming my way into the wrong conclusions
and away from that for which I searched.
We all do that. I meet people every day who have no
interest in what life is about, or worse, have made up
their minds that life is this money grabbing thing all
of us do.
That assumption catches up to one on their death bed.
It makes us like the frivolous children who would not
help their mother gather all the things for the pie, or
work with her to bake the pie, or do anything except
take. Then, when there is nothing else for us to do we
expect to be able to eat the pie. What an uproar when
mom says no.
You see, if you don't do your looking, asking, seeking
when you have a chance and furthermore when you are
warned then you miss the ark. Laugh if you wish but
each has his time.
You can assume your way through life only to miss the
boat when it sails. You will be standing on shore
waving good-bye to those wiser souls who took the time
to search, ask and knock.
We Do Make Assumptions!

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 5 of 22
For our information to flow a little more naturally, I
will start at the head and work to the reproductive
glands.
The Pineal gland is a small gland located in the middle
of the brain. Its function is to secrete melatonin, the
hormone that regulates your wake-sleep cycle. As it
controls this sleep pattern, any change it its quantity
might well change the sleep pattern. But do remember
that the body is very good at adjusting its needs. It
is also thought to delay sexual maturity until the body
is ready for reproduction. Little is known about the
actual activities of melatonin. For a while, everyone
seemed to be using it, but I would use it very
cautiously. A healthy body should produce adequate
amounts. http://familydoctor.org/258.xml?printxml
The Pituitary gland is called the master gland. It is
found at the base of the brain, near another important
gland, the hypothalamus.
It plays a central role in regulating the secretions
from many other hormone-secreting glands of the body.
It is very small (pea-size) in relation to some
structures of equal importance, i.e. the heart. It
influences so many areas of the body! Directly and
indirectly it controls your growth, urine production,
blood chemistry and reproductive activities. It also
stimulates the growth of bone and other body tissues.
It plays a role in the body's handling of nutrients and
mineral in electrolyte balance. It stimulates the
thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones and it
stimulates the adrenal glands to produce other
hormones. It triggers the contractions of the uterus
that occur during labor and activates milk production
at birth. You can see how it affects so many areas of
your body.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"Mae, you have turned your life completely
around. How are things for you in your heart of
hearts?"
"They're fine Alewka. I went through a period
of time where I couldn't see the light at the end
of the tunnel. Now I do. It was all founded on
emotion. All of my life before higher law was
based on emotion, not knowledge. That was a big
mistake and I paid the price. If there is one
thing I would want the world to know it is to
govern your lives with clear thinking and by the
law 'As ye sow, so shall ye reap.' If people think
about what they want and then act accordingly they
will find themselves much better off than
reacting, emotionally, to any situation."
"Can you think of why you didn't do that when
you were first married?"
"Alewka, I was in love and wanted to please.
Frank was the stronger of the two of us and it was
he who was working to bring home the money. I
thought my role was to do things to support him. I
thought all good wives did that. I didn't learn
until later that all I was to him was a doormat.
His ego was so big that he tromped on me all the
time. It started early, even before we were
married. I did not stand up to him or for my
rights to think and act on my own. From that time
he owned me. That was wrong then and it is wrong
now. Men have to learn to live with and deal with
independent women. I would actually think they
would prefer that to some whiny yes woman."
"Mae you know some men are raised to think
they are king in their own castle. They rarely
think there is good advice coming from their
'Queen'. They prefer to dictate rather than run a
democratic family. Some men prefer their toys or
their booze to a good honest relationship with a
mate."
"Sure they do, Alewka, and it always, without
exception, leads to trouble. The more they try to
control the worse it gets. What's worse is a man
who thinks he is king and drinks too. That man is
a miserable man and makes everyone around him
miserable. That man ruins lives, fast."
"Are you glad you got out?"
"Alewka, I am immensely happy I am no longer
under that weight, that pressure. But if you were
to ask again I would tell you nothing has ever
been so important to me than living by higher law,
nothing."
"I would say that to be true for all of us."
"Sure, but you were asking about the changes
in my life. I cannot possibly over emphasize the
importance of learning higher law, even if your
mate doesn't want it. Not one thing is more
important to me than a relationship with my Maker.
And nothing can take that from me, not man, woman
or child. Only I can alter that relationship."
"So, if anyone came up to you on the street
and asked you what to do and where to go, this is
what you would tell them?"
"I would begin before they even finished
asking. There is nothing in earth more important
than learning to have a relationship with your
Maker within. There is no church in the world that
can offer that or lead you there. This has nothing
to do with religion, only you and your Maker. All
forms of organized religion anywhere they are
found, will lead you astray. It is only by doing
what Jesus said to do that we can have true
relationship with our Maker. There is no other
way."
"I am glad to hear that Mae. You above all
have seen the depths of despair and the heights of
glory. You would know what is important to any
person."
"Thank you Alewka, but remember I could not
have done that without you and Sam. I remember the
nights I used to come over here whining and
tearful about by situation. I remember the very
first time Eloise took me to see David. We did not
touch down but I saw him and that showed me he was
all right. From there I began to look deeper. Then
I had the privilege to have been asked to Oomano's
and Romano's wedding and there saw Jesus. That
moment changed my life forever. I would wish that
upon all men, women and children."
"Yes, Mae, I would too. And you Susan. You,
too are a completely different person than the
next door neighbor that I remember."
"Ah, Alewka, you spoiled me. I watched your
Eloise grow up, remember. I watched you and Sam
guide those kids into kindness, resourcefulness
and now, higher law. I was sitting at this table
when Eloise came to visit. I saw things in this
family I would never see anywhere else. I had been
indoctrinated by you and Sam. I was ready for
higher law."

"An affirmation is simply a positive declaration of
something you believe to be true or something you
expect to become true and desire to live by.
Affirmations transform your thinking, your attitudes,
and finally, your behavior. Their impact on attitudes
and behavior help to produce the results you desire."

HA! HA! HA!
Twin orphans were separated at birth.
One was adopted by a Hispanic couple and named Juan.
The other was adopted by an Arab couple and named Amal.
A few years later, knowing of the split twins, Juan's
mother wished that she had a picture of the two of them
together.
Her husband chided her. "They were twins dear. If
you've seen Juan, you've seen Amal."
