TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

Sea otters live in waters with very strong currents. How do
sea otter families ensure they won't be separated?

How do unborn chicks breathe inside their eggshells?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What fish swims upside down?

The Nile catfish does. To accommodate its unusual method
of swimming, it has developed a light-colored back and a dark
belly, the reverse of the usual fish color-scheme.

What fish can swallow meals larger than itself?

Sometimes, it's not just the BIGGER fish you have to worry about.
The blackswallower, a deep-sea fish, can eat fish bigger than itself.
It does this by moving its heart and gills out of the way. It also has
moveable teeth in its throat to help break down the prey and a
stomach that stretches far enough to handle fish twice its own
size.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
_______________

It's Tough When ...

The businessman dragged himself home and barely made it
to his chair before he dropped exhausted.

His sympathetic wife was right there with a tall cool
drink and a comforting word. "My, you look tired," she
said. "You must have had a hard day today. What
happened to make you so exhausted?"

"It was terrible," her husband said. "The computer
broke down and all of us had to do our own thinking."

I know how this guy feels.

I have written on this subject before but it bears
repeating. Changes cost us energy. Changes cost us our
goals and rewards.

I know the only thing constant is change but too many
changes are imposed upon us and that serves nothing but
to keep you poor. Those in control know this.

It really boils down to the old western movie theme.
The bad guys come in to town and set fire to the
church. While everybody is up at the church putting out
the fire the bad guys are down at the bank helping
themselves.

The same is true with all of us everyday. The more we
react to changes imposed upon us by government, church,
industry and others, the more "unsettled" we are. We
actually end up at the church putting out the fire for
50% or more of our time.

Now, a simple question. Who can progress when they
permit the world to control their lives?

This is no small matter. Some of you will sit there
scoffing and saying "Yeah! But what can I do about it?"

The answer is STOP.

Make choices today as to what you are going to do
today. Make choices tomorrow as to what you are going
to do tomorrow. DO NOT make those choices on the basis
of "I have to" or "my boss or someone expects me to".

Make your choice exclusively on the basis of how will
this contribute to your life, your goals, your
objectives today. There is no need to think this a cold
and heartless method. I am not asking you to shun those
who need help. I am not asking you to be arrogant,
selfish or greedy. I am not asking you to be a
heartless fool.

I am asking you to follow the law "As ye give, so shall
ye receive . . .". I am asking you to get your eyes on
your prize and keep them there and to stop reacting to
conditions you perceive as changing and therefor
requiring your action.

I have a secret for you. 90% of all the things you do
because of changes imposed upon you are unnecessay
action. It is purely and simply a waste of your time,
your energy and your resources. If you would enjoy
prosperity, peace, power, plenty and happiness then
follow the law.

Stop reacting to changes. If you analyze carefully you
can easily determine to which you do and do not have to
react.

I used to live in a large city and followed the masses,
reacting the same as everyone else. Now I live in the
country on a beautiful lake some 40 miles from my
earlier home. I no longer react as I once did because
it is not as convenient. Wow! What a lifesaver! I soon
discovered it is completely unnecessary to react to
most of the stuff imposed upon us.

Peace, power, plenty, prosperity can all be found when
you are still and listen to what you are told from
within.

Oh! I know it is hard, because you are changing a long
held habit. But remember ...

It's Tough When ...

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 8 of 22

Thyroid hormones also play a key role in bone growth
and the development of the brain and nervous system in
children. The production and release of thyroid
hormones is controlled by thyrotropin which is secreted
by the pituitary gland, as opposed to the thyroid
gland.  Can you see how interrelated your body’s
workings are? These messengers constantly work as a
team to rebalance the chemicals in all of your body.

Parathyroid glands are like four little buttons
attached to the front of the thyroid gland. These
function together and are called the parathyroids. They
release the parathormone hormone, which, with the help
of thyrocalcitonin (from the thyroid gland), regulates
the level of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. This
has to do with electrolyte balance. This system is
essential for the chemical functioning of your body.
Know that your body craves balance. This is the system
that maintains it and this is called homeostasis.

Two common problems in your body that can create this
imbalance are too much salt and too little potassium.
Too much salt causes fluid to be retained in your body,
most often in your legs, and is identified as swelling.
It can also cause fluids to be retained in your lungs,
causing respiratory “distress”.  This imbalance is
often corrected by drawing off the fluid. However, this
might then cause a depletion of potassium that goes
along with the salt (sodium). A low potassium level can
lead to slow heart rates, weakness, and lack of
motivation. It may also cause arrhythmias (abnormal
heart beats) because of chemical imbalances that may be
caused in the heart’s electrical system.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

"Not yet, Mr. Henry. We were going to see what
you folks thought of the plans before we
approached Mom and Dad."

"We think it's fine, honey." Alewka spoke up.
"Anything you want you shall have. We want to
welcome you to the family. I think it is
wonderful."

"Thank you Mrs. Henry."

"Sugar, you are going to have to learn to call
my Mom an Dad something other than the formal Mr.
and Mrs.. Why don't you try calling them Mom and
Dad?"

Tim knew it would be slightly awkward to
start, but the formal Mr. and Mrs. was not going
to work forever.

Sharon knew what he was after and knew the
wisdom of it, so she decided then and there she
would call her about to be "in-laws" Mom and Dad.
"I'll try, if that's okay with you, Mom and you,
Dad."

"Sharon, honey, that would be just fine."
Alewka had shown by her hug and by the timbre in
her voice that the new monicker was fine, loved
even. "Have you made any other plans?"

"Oh! Mom, we're full of them. We want all our
beloved friends who live by higher law to attend.
Then there will be a few friends on my own Mom and
Dad's side. This whole affair could be very big. I
hope Daddy won't mind spending the money."

"I'm sure we will all be able to work that
out, honey. Don't worry about that." Alewka was
again reassuring.

She looked at Sam and the pair of them had
that knowing look between them that said "this is
wonderful." The pair of them were very proud of
these kids and now, excited.

Mae and Susan were also excited. They loved
this family and became excited any time something
good happened to them. This family had been at the
center of helping each of them any time help was
required. The Henrys were like that. Mae and Sue
were almost part of this family, or so they felt.
This was exciting news.

"When are you going to tell your folks?" Mae
asked.

"We thought we would go over there right now,
Mrs. Wiley. Thanks 'Mom and Dad'. I think this is
wonderful." Sharon felt a little shy about calling
Sam and Alewka Mom and Dad, but having done it now
it started a future. She would do it all the time.

"Well, you kids better be off then. I'm sure
your folks have been waiting for this news too."
Alewka was giving them permission to get on with
their plans.

The kids left in that instant, arriving in the
Smithson living room.

"Wow! You kids scare me every time you do
that. Hi, what's up?"

"Oh Daddy, we have something we want to tell
you."

"What is it Sharon, honey?"

"Where's Mom? We want Mom to hear, too."

"She's in the kitchen, like always."

"Daddy, come. Let's sit at the kitchen table
for a bit."

Bob Smithson rose out of the easy chair where
he was reading the evening newspaper. He followed
Sharon and Tim into the kitchen.

"Hi Mom. What are you doing?"

"Hi Honey. Just getting some food ready for
tomorrow. What's up?"

"Mom, come sit down. Let's have a coffee. Tim
and I want to talk with you two."

Harriet Smithson grabbed the always on coffee
pot and brought some cups over to the table. She
poured coffee all around.

Bob and Harriett looked at one another. They,
too, had that knowing look. They thought they knew
what was coming. "What's up?"

"Mom, Dad, Tim and I have been talking of
getting married for quite some time now. We have
decided we want to marry in the fall. We want to
get married out at the lake at the Henry cabin. We
came to ask your blessings and to see if that
would be all right with you. We thought the Labor
Day weekend would be the date."

Again, Bob and Harriett looked at each other.
Harriett had tears coming into her eyes. It made
Bob's eyes well up with tears as well.

When Harriett could gain control from that
lump in her throat she spoke, quietly. "Honey,
that's wonderful. We've been waiting for this. I
think everyone knew but you two." Harriett rose
and came over to give Sharon a kiss and a hug.
Then she looked at Tim.

Tim rose and held out his arms. Harriett came
into them. She whispered, "Welcome, Tim. It is
going to be good to have you as a son-in-law."

When we brought our new-born son to the pediatrician

Smiling, I said, "I'll bet you say that to all the new
parents."

"No," he replied, "just to those whose babies are
really good-looking."

"So what do you say to the others?" I asked.

"He looks just like you."

Man must learn to step out of his present rut. To look at all the
things that are possible, to glance, even once, at the glories
that are available to him, can show him his possibilities. Take
that chance to step out of yourself into the realm of possibilities
and then make your choice on who and what you shall be. Let
