How do chicks know when to break out of their shells?
What exactly is an egg yolk?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Sea otters live in waters with very strong currents. How do
sea otter families ensure they won't be separated?
A family of otters stays together in strong currents by attaching
themselves to the same bed of kelp. The animals twist themselves
into the seaweed until they are tied in. The kelp bed may be
carried away in the swift water, but the otter family remains
together. (They do this primarily at night, to avoid disaster
while sleeping.)
How do unborn chicks breathe inside their eggshells?
Eggshells would appear to be sturdy enough to keep out air,
but in fact they are porous. Oxygen can easily flow in and out.
Air that enters the egg is absorbed by a membrane lining the
inner surface of the shell. This membrane acts as a lung for
the unhatched chick.

AOL Study Finds E-Mail Addictive by Wendy Davis,
Thursday, May 26, 2005 6:00 AM EST IF YOU HAVE ONE
E-MAIL account, chances are excellent that you also
have a second. If you work outside the home, you've
probably checked your personal e-mail at the office.
But you've also probably opened your inbox while on
vacation. In fact, odds are four in 10 that you've
checked e-mail in the middle of the night.
That's according to new research by America Online
scheduled to be unveiled today. The report, based on an
Opinion Research Corporation survey of around 4,000
online adults in a total of 20 U.S. cities, found that
77 percent of e-mail users have more than one account,
and the average user has 2.8 accounts. The average user
also relies on e-mail at least as much as the
telephone, and spends about an hour a day checking
e-mail.
In addition to reading personal e-mail at work (done by
61 percent of users who work away from home), account
holders also check e-mail in bed (23 percent), classes
(12 percent), and business meetings (8 percent). A
small proportion even admit to checking e-mail in the
bathroom (6 percent), while driving (4 percent), and in
church (1 percent).
The survey also found some city-by-city differences in
e-mail habits. For instance, San Francisco e-mail users
check e-mail six times a day on average--more than in
any other city surveyed. Also, more than three out of
four e-mail users in the city by the Bay, 76 percent,
check personal e-mail at work.
Houston takes the prize for the highest proportion to
stumble out of bed to check e-mail, with 51 percent of
account holders saying they've checked in-boxes in the
middle of the night. Bean town residents seem to be the
early birds, with 45 percent saying they check e-mail
first thing in the morning--slightly more than the
national average of 41 percent.

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 9 of 22
Thymus: the thymus is a gland needed early in life for
normal immune development and function. The thymus
gland secretes hormones called humoral factors. These
hormones help to develop the lymphatic system. This is
the system throughout your body that helps it to reach
a mature immune response in cells to protect them from
invading bodies, like bacteria, viruses and other
intruders. The thymus hormone, thymosin, is responsible
for the growth and development of the lymphocytes,
which are becoming more researched and known to be
important.
This hormone is directly related to your bodys ability
to withstand many intruders. I have always questioned
the need for tonsillectomies and adenoidectomies. I saw
them as a protective mechanism of the body. Research is
now encouraging the end to this practice. I digress,
but it makes more sense to me to keep your body parts
inside of you and as healthy as you can make them.
Somehow cleaning them out and restoring their functions
makes more sense to me now more than ever. If you do
any research on the thymus gland, you will very quickly
be overwhelmed with information on the deficiency to
the immune system and its possible problems.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000818.
htm. We are frequently given immunosuppressant drugs.
Why would someone want to suppress the bodys natural
response to anything unwanted? Would it not be wiser to
rebuild it? And you know now that as the American
Medical Association says, it is possible. Please
research this closely if you feel a need. Consider
strengthening your body naturally.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

Bob gave his daughter a long hug and a kiss.
Then he came over to Tim and took his hand.
"Welcome, Tim. This is good. Welcome."
The heavy emotion died down and they were now
able to converse normally. "So tell us about the
plans you have been making." Harriett asked.
"Mom, we are a little at a loss about you and
Daddy. We know it is custom to have the brides
folks pay for the wedding, but in this case we are
so capable of doing everything ourselves we don't
want to be in a position to hurt you by doing
things you felt you wanted to do. Help us overcome
that so we don't hurt your feelings."
"Sharon, honey. I am sure we can work that out
with Sam and Alewka. That won't be a problem."
"I know you can Daddy. May I make a
suggestion?"
"Yes, go ahead."
"May I suggest that you and Mom spend what you
want on a wedding present, and let all the rest of
the things be done by Tim and I? You know we can
do it all and we don't need man's money to do it.
Would that be okay?"
"My dear, sweet daughter. That would be just
fine. I know you, Tim and Tim's family can do all
these things. I also know Mom and I want to
contribute. Your suggestion will work out just
fine. How's that with you Tim, son?"
There was Tim's invitation. "Dad, that would
be just terrific with us. We don't want to be a
burden, financially, to you and we can easily do
what we want. Is it okay with you that we do this
out at the lake?"
Bob looked at Harriett, who nodded. "Sure, Tim
that would be fine."
"Good. Now I have the hard question. We want
this to be a traditional style of wedding, but we
were thinking of not having a minister. We know we
will have to have a Justice Of The Peace present
so we do things according to the law of the State,
but we wanted to set things up ourselves. Is that
all right with you two?"
"Yes, Tim. We want the pair of you to set
things up the way you want them. Just let us know
where and how we can be of help. By the way,
congratulations. We both think this is wonderful."
With that, Tim and Sharon had broken the news
to both families. Then a horrible thought hit
Sharon. What kind of a wedding would it be if the
pair of them did everything and did not have the
families involved. If all they had to do was show
up at the wedding it would seem as if it was
someone else's wedding. It was not only a money
thing they had to think of. They had to figure
some way of getting the folks involved.
Sharon quickly communicated this to Tim, by
thought. He looked at her in sudden realization.
"Yeah, you're right. Go ahead"
"Mom, Dad, we're not quite through. Mom, we
were wondering if you would bake our wedding cake.
Would you do that for us?"
"Honey, I'd be glad to."
"Dad, we know you will be busy enough working
with Mom, but we wondered if you would help out
with something?"
"Just say the word honey."
"We were thinking of having Tim's brother Tom
be Tim's best man, but then we wanted Bob and Ron
to stand beside him. That means getting tuxedos
rented and ready for all of the men, including
yourself. Would you look after that for us?"
"Sharon, consider that done. Do you have any
preferences, or ideas?"
"No, Daddy. We will leave that to you. Mom, I
think we will have Tim's sister Eloise be the
bridesmaid and I want a couple of special friends
to stand with her. Is it all right with you that
I have them look after that?"
"Yes. Did you have anything special in mind
for me, dress wise?"
"No, Mom. Bride's Mothers usually like to do
their own thing and I know this will be a special
for you. You make your own choice."
"Are you thinking of inviting friends of our
family?"
"Of course, Mom. We will come up with a list,
but we would like you to let us know who you want.
The reason we wanted to do this ourselves is we
have hundreds of people we want to be present,
many from other lands. It would be much too much
of a financial burden to ask you to pay for it.
Yet we can handle the matter easily."
"You aren't going to overwhelm us with your
friends are you?"
"Mom, we are going to ask all the friends we
know who live by higher law. Love will be
everywhere, but not overwhelming. They will all
behave and your own friends will be impressed and
loved, not overwhelmed. Trust us."
"Okay, honey. We'll trust. We know you'll
handle it right."

HA! HA! HA!
Keeping up with your children can send to you a
psychologist. Trying to figure them out is a task that
no one has conquered as this next joke shows.
Little Johnny has been bringing his drawings home from
kindergarten everyday since he started a month ago.
Each day his mother admires the pictures and hangs them
on the refrigerator. One thing starts bothering her
though. Little Johnny only uses black and browns for
his drawings. Fearing a problem with her young son and
not wanting to make it worse, she decides to take him
to a child psychologist.
The psychologist delicately goes to work. He gives
Johnny a battery of psychological tests. He chats with
Johnny. Everything seems perfectly normal. Everyday for
two weeks, the tests continue. Yet everyday, little Johnny
continues to bring home drawings in only black
and brown. Frustrated at not being able to get to the
root of the problem and fearful that something is
terrible wrong, the child psychologist decides to give
little Johnny some paper and a box of crayons and
observe what happens.
Little Johnny opens the box of crayons and says "oh
boy! A new box of crayons! At school we only have old
boxes. The only ones left in mine are black and brown!"
