Why do mammals lick their young?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How do chicks know when to break out of their shells?
At a certain point, the membrane that acts as a lung
(described yesterday) is no longer able to handle the
growing chick's demands for oxygen. At that point, carbon
dioxide begins to build up in the shell, causing a sharp
twitch in the hatching muscle in the bird's neck. The chick's
head repeatedly jerks back, causing its beak to crack the shell.
What exactly is an egg yolk?
When I was a kid, I thought the egg yolk WAS an undeveloped
baby chick and didn't want to eat it. What a relief to grow up and
learn that the yolk is actually the chick's food, which nourishes
it as it grows inside the egg.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!
During the making of the movie "Fight Club," actor Brad
Pitt chipped his tooth. However, he did not get his tooth
capped until after the movie was done filming as he thought
it would look better chipped for his character.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
_______________
I Admire Determination!
One night, a torrential rain soaked South Louisiana;
the next morning the resulting floodwaters came up
about 6 feet into most of the homes there.
Mrs. Boudreaux was sitting on her roof with her
neighbor, Mrs. Thibodaux, waiting for help to come.
Mrs. Thibodaux noticed a lone baseball cap floating
near the house. Then she saw it float far out into the
front yard, then float all the way back to the house;
it kept floating away from the house, then back in.
Her curiosity got the best of her, so she asked Mrs.
Boudreaux, "Do you see that baseball cap floating away
from the house, then back again?"
Mrs. Boudreaux said, "Oh yes, that's my husband; I told
him he was going to cut the grass today come Hell or
high water!"
Even when you are drowning in some event in your life
determination along a course you have previously chosen
can be a good thing. But what makes it so?
Good, sound, unemotional thinking and judgement, that's
what.
If you are in a problem situation and you keep on going
because your thinking was right in the first place then
keep going.
When your husband/wife, banker, kids, credit card
company don't understand, keep going, When your friends
start talking to you seriously about stopping, keep
going.
When you know, I mean KNOW, because you have
researched, thought about and are absolutely certain
you are on the right path - keep going.
Oh! Yes! It can be hard, but think of it as climbing a
mountain. The two actions are similar. Climbing a
mountain is not and never is about climbing a mountain.
It is about challenging the giant within and overcoming
- it's about winning over yourself. Keep on going.
You will encounter plenty of competition from those who
do not know what you are doing, nor do they care to
find out. They only know that at the moment they don't
like the present situation for them. Chances are better
than excellent that what you are doing will
monumentally change their life for the better, as well
as your own, keep going.
It has been said that on the road to success there are
many tempting parking places. Yes there are. The
opportunity to quit will jump up and slap you in the
face so often it becomes a friend. The pressure on you
will at times be so great you will wonder why you
continue.
Because you believed in what you were doing when you
started - that's why. Because you were on the right
track then and you are on the right track now - that's
why. Because tomorrow you might just stumble across the
secret that turns the table - that's why.
Because YOU HAVE FAITH IN YOU - THAT IS WHY.
I Admire Determination!

A Few Thoughts To Share On Hormones
And Their Actions
PART 10 of 22
Adrenals: what I want of discuss next is an OVERVIEW.
Please do NOT use this for a school project or to make
any final decisions. These hormones are very complex. I
will try and simplify this topic, but that's all it
will be: an oversimplification of a very important part
of our body. I thought it would be interesting to share
my experiences in doing research for this particular
part. I used four medical texts (here in my office) and
five online medical research sites. No two resources
gave the identical information! I was surprised to come
across to this lack of definite descriptions. I say
this so you will not use this as the final answer.
There doesnt seem to be one. Sites used such terms as
apparently and it seems. That told me this was
still subject to interpretation. So I will try to share
what I learned.
Your adrenals are very important in your life. You have
two. One lies on the top of each kidney. If you dont
know where your kidneys are, run your hand to the
bottom of your ribs at your back. Then run your hand up
from the hip on the same side: in between lie your
kidneys. You have to use your imagination a bit, but if
you were having kidney surgery, you would be placed on
your side and a little bar would be elevated under this
area to expose that portion of the kidney.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"Good, then that's all set. Thank you Mom,
Daddy. Thank you for working with me and getting
me to this point. Thank you for your patience with
me and thank you for your love." With that Sharon
got up and went to her folks and gave them each a
kiss and a hug.
"We want to go tell some friends now. We'll
talk with you tomorrow, how's that?"
"That's fine honey. I think this is going to
be some wedding."
"Thanks, Daddy. I think so too."
With that Sharon and Tim were off. They
stopped in at the restaurant in the motel. Some of
their friends were there. They didn't want to get
into too much conversation with them so they just
said "Hi" and left it at that or other small
chatter.
What the two of them were really thinking is
about going over to visit Sonora in Africa.
Neither had seen Sonora for a long time and they
wanted to share with her the news.
Just as they were getting up to leave, both
Tim and Sharon received a message. They were being
asked to go to South East Asia to assist a man who
was being held prisoner.
Tim looked at Sharon and they both knew they
would go. They paid their restaurant bill and then
stepped outside. In that instant they were gone.
They arrived at a spot deep within a jungle.
There they found a prison camp where men were
being held. Some were prisoners of war, others
were political prisoners who spoke out against the
present regime. All were being treated poorly.
The man they were sent to aid was a white man
who had reached the decision to no longer do what
his captors wanted. He had enough of their
brutality and decided death would be better than
life. He wanted to meet his Maker, actually in the
real sense and commited himself to that end. All
the time he had been held here he had spent every
minute possible in meditation.
Now he was strapped, spread eagle to a large
wheel, as were six others around him. All of them
were completely naked and positioned head down.
They had been that way for many days. Any time a
guard walked by they would each get whipped.
Sometimes that would be on the chest, others on
the genitals and others on the legs.
Every once in a while a guard would rotate the
wheel so they were upright. The blood would all
leave their heads once more but they were all
nearly blind.
They had no protection from the sun, from
insects or from the thrashing rains.
The man Tim and Sharon had been sent to aid
was nearly dead. His time had come and it would be
a matter of hours.
Tim and Sharon knew immediately what they had
to do.
While remaining invisible, Sharon went to the
men being tortured. She caused the wheels to be
placed so the men were upright, and she broadcast
love unto all. She saw all the men as being
perfect and each became restored. Then she placed
a shield of protection around them that would
cause no one but those with love to enter. She did
not yet want to remove them from the wheels. If
any guard had come by it would seem natural to him
they were still on the wheels.
Then she joined Tim who had been working
amongst the guards. He had been broadcasting love
unto them such that whatever was their intent they
would act out. A lot of the men were mean and
fights soon began to break out amongst them. No
matter how others tried to break it up the fight
would go on, only this time it would include those
who tried to break it up. Bit by bit the fight
amongst them grew to a point where it now included
all the garrison. Not one man, except the
commanding officer, was exempt. All were involved.
The commanding officer pulled his pistol and
was about to fire it into the air. Tim knew what
was going to happen and caused the barrel of the
pistol to become restricted. When the commandant
pulled the trigger the weapon backfired causing
severe damage unto his hand. He screamed.
As the fight continued many men were being
hurt. Some were now knifed, others were with
broken ribs resulting from the kicks of their
comrades. Others had broken hands, black eyes,
broken jaws and arms. Those who remained fighting
were nearly exhausted. It would now take virtually
nothing to cause them damage. Finally the last
blow was struck. All collapsed where they were.
Sharon and Tim now made themselves visible.
They continued to broadcast love unto the men of
the garrison, but this time they froze them in
place. They made no attempt to help any of these
medically. Sharon went back to the wheels where
she loosened the bonds of the men on them and
caused each to be fully clothed in new clothing.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"Recognize and take advantage of the cycles and trends

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
A college student at a recent football game challenged
a senior citizen sitting next to him, saying it was
impossible for their generation to understand his.
"You grew up in a different world," the student said
loud enough for the whole crowd to hear. "Today we
have television, jet planes, space travel, man has
walked on the moon, our spaceships have visited Mars,
we even have nuclear energy, electric and hydrogen
cars, computers with light-speed processing ... and
uh...."
Taking advantage of a pause in the student's litany,
the old geezer said, "You're right. We didn't have
those things when we were young; so we invented them,
you little twit! What are YOU doing for the next
generation?"
(I love senior citizens!)
