Is it true that some frogs deliver their babies through the
mouth?
Yep. The "gastric brooding frog" does (or, rather, DID. This
Australian frog has not been seen in the wild for many years
and may now be extinct). The young were incubated inside the
frog's belly, but when they were ready to be born, they came
hopping out of Mom's mouth. If a young frog WOULDN'T leave
Mom's mouth, she'd re-swallow it and allow it to be born
later. Scientists were most fascinated by how these frogs
were able to turn off the production of stomach acids when
carrying their young.

China risks new row over bishop
Beijing's Immaculate Conception Cathedral China has a
state-run association and an underground Church China is
installing another Catholic bishop in a move that is likely
to increase tension with the Vatican.
Zhan Silu is being elevated to become bishop of Mindong
Diocese in eastern Fujian province on Sunday without the
approval of the Holy See.
In the past fortnight Beijing has consecrated two other
unapproved bishops, sparking Papal criticism.
China has both a state-run Catholic association and an
underground church loyal to the Vatican.
The recent appointments have cast a shadow on moves to
re-establish diplomatic relations that were severed more
than 50 years ago.
Pope's 'displeasure'
Zhan Silu, 45, was consecrated as bishop in 2000 but has
been a deputy to another who died last year and has not
celebrated a full Mass as bishop.
Priests in both China churches say his elevation on Sunday
could increase tension with the Vatican.
A local priest in the state-run Chinese Catholic Patriotic
Association told Reuters news agency there had been "heavy
pressure to attend" Sunday's ceremony in the cathedral in
Ningde.
"There's been no discussion with us about whether this
should go ahead - it's a bad signal to send right now," he
said.
Ahead of Sunday's ceremony, a priest in the church loyal to
the Vatican said none of its representatives would attend,
although the cathedral was packed for the ceremony.
The Vatican recently threatened to excommunicate two bishops
consecrated by China's official church.
Pope Benedict XVI expressed his "deep displeasure" over the
appointments.
Taiwan links
The Chinese government does not recognise the Vatican's
power to appoint bishops but over the past five years has
allowed bishops to seek Vatican approval.
However, the unilateral consecration of the two bishops in
eastern Anhui province and south-western Yunnan has seen
ties sour.

Catholics in China, of whom about five million follow the

Diplomatic ties were severed in 1951 after the 1949
Communist takeover in China and subsequent crackdown on
religion.

I see by the article today that the Chinese government and the
vatican are at it again. While it smacks of state run religion it
really appears the Chinese government are only trying to tell
the vatican that they say what happens in China.
Funny thing. That is exactly what the vatican is trying to tell the
Chinese, that they say what happens in the Catholic church.
It would appear these two factions are separated by a common philosophy.
It will be interesting to watch what happens as time goes by.
On another note I can't help but notice that spammers have finally
won the battle. No matter what legislation is in place it seems that
spam is increasing. Plus, there are folks out there who are harvesting
email addresses. I notice it doesn't take very long after I set up a new
email address that it begins to receive spam messages.
What really impresses me are two things. The first is that sooner or
later we get used to things, and the second is people have finally
drawn the conclusion to merely delete the spam if they don't want it.
The next thing that should go is the spam arrest agencies who are
interested in only making money and actually keep the good mail from
reaching you. I gather spammers will not take the time to jump through
all the hoops these spam arrest people set up. I guess that's good. Yet,
if you subscribe to this newsletter and later subscribe to some spam arrest
concept you can count on me not going to each one and jumping through
their hoops. If you want to receive this newsletter good. If not, then you
can easily unsubscribe through a link at the end of each one.

A man rushed into the veterinarian's office carrying his
dog, thoroughly distraught. The vet examined the dog's
still, limp body and sadly informed the man that the dog was
dead.
Saddened at the loss of his best friend, the man asked the
doctor if he could please try one last time to revive the
dog.
The doctor stepped into his other room and returned with a
cat in a wire cage. He set the cage on the examining table
and opened the sliding door.
The cat got up, stretched, stepped out of the cage and
slowly walked around the dog from head to tail sniffing the
body. When it was finished, it looked up at the veterinarian
with a "meow", walked back into the cage and went back to
sleep.
The vet looked at the man and said in his best bedside
manner, "I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can do."
Resigned, the man signed and said, "Thanks for trying. How
much do I owe you?"
"Three-hundred fifty dollars," the doctor replied.
"Thr . . . thr . . .three-hundred fif-fif-fifty bucks to
tell me my dog is dead!" the man stammered.
"Well, it was only $50 for the office visit. The other $300
is for the CAT scan."
