Do coroners have to be licensed physicians?
Surprisingly, no. The United States has no federal law
requiring that coroners be licensed physicians. However,
medical examiners are most often physicians specializing in
forensic pathology, the study of structural and functional
changes in the body due to injury. It's the medical
examiner's job to visit the crime scene and conduct the
autopsy, as well as collect the medical evidence and lab
reports for the district attorney. The medical examiner may
consult with specialists in a number of forensic
subspecialties to complete the investigation. Subspecialties
include pathology (study of body tissues and fluids),
toxicology (study of poisons), forensic entomology,
odontology (study of teeth), biology, chemistry, psychology,
and even physics.
What matinee idol assassinated a president?
John Wilkes Booth. Few history books mention it, but John
Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated President Abraham
Lincoln, was a popular actor who was very familiar to
theater-goers of his day. In fact, Booth had played numerous
times at Ford's Theater, where he later shot Lincoln, and
Lincoln himself had admired his performances, even once
passing a message backstage asking if he could meet the
actor (Booth, an outspoken supporter of the South,
declined). Booth knew the layout of the theater well and was
friendly with the stagehands, which no doubt helped him to
get past security that fateful evening.

Here's To Think On . . . with Ken Darby
-----------------
Just When You Think You're Somebody!
Jim Tressell was on vacation with his family in Maine. When
they walked into a movie theater and sat down, the handful
of people there applauded. He thought to himself, "I can't
believe it. People recognize me all the way up here."
Then a man came over to him and said, "Thanks for coming.
They won't start the movie unless we have ten paying people
or more."
Isn't that the way of life? When you are in a situation
where you are well known, or famous, you expect such things.
It is a little arrogant, of course, but that is how we are
built.
It is good to be taken down a notch or two once in a while.
It is good to have those around you not recognize you. The
heart, mind and consciousness seems to falsely think that
being known is a good thing. Yet, if you were to get things
done, live your life in a value filled way, and simply enjoy
life, fame gets in the way.
Take time to figure out who you are. Even if you are famous,
that makes you no better than the next person. Your
position, one of authority, gives you no rights of ownership
over others, nor the right to boss people around.
Good bosses know that people work much better when they can
see the wisdom of things, and have a keen knowledge of how
important their job is to the firm. A boss who is a control
freak, loses loyalty of his people, fast.
If you want to build a winning team, lose your need to be
recognized, worshipped, treated like a god. The right to
sign the paychecks does not include the right to be
worshipped. Your expectations of such should be rudely
wrenched out of you.
Respect is earned on a daily and task by task basis. One
wrong move from the top and the whole structure follows. If
you are rude, arrogant, controlling, you will not build a
winning team. Oh! You might gain some points, get some
money, have a brief moment of glory, but your employees, or
those under you will curse you under their breath all the
way. That means they do not willingly work. Your costs mount
dramatically and in the end it will not be worth it.
So when the hands begin to clap, and they really are for
you, consider well you are really nothing, not worth the
adulation and keep your feet on the ground. Keep simple,
kind and genuine, for in no other way will the adulation
continue, because - - -

Could Your Blood Pressure Be Too Low?
A Plea For Some Common Sense: Some Sanity
PART 12 of 12
When you spot a potential problem, take them to your primary
care physician. They should have your best interest at
heart. They should be seeing your entire body: not just one
segments of it. If you are still reluctant to ask your
doctor, and that happens often, ask yourself why you went in
the first place. Were the symptoms bad enough for you to
seek help? Has anything changed so you can now cope? If not,
have some courage and seek other help. But in the meantime,
you might also find other possible ways of coping with your
original symptoms. There is a lot of research and many books
that can help with non-drug or chemical treatments. It might
mean a change in diet, a bit more exercise, an avoidance of
sugars, diet products, plus other things. You dont need to
join a gym if you can walk a round your house, walk the
stairs a bit more, or simply park further from the shopping
center entrances. If you have low blood pressure, mild
exercise is great to help you bring extra oxygen to your
body! Wash your car (and mine) a bit oftener. Walk two
floors. It might take a bit extra time, but it feels good.
Just by reading to this point, you cant help but have
learned a lot about drug interactions and possible low blood
pressure. A few lifestyle changes, including finding courage
to make some enquiries, could make an amazing change in your
health!
I am reluctant to add something of serious importance to an
already overloaded health article, but you might also start
looking at your environment. Often it gives a hint of things
you are exposed to generally. Many respiratory problems
start here. Then you get drugs, and it adds to your body
workload of trying to get them out. Your body is always
trying to protect you from anything that is not natural to
it. You might want to read this article:
http://www.menieres-disease.ca/whats-new/200510.htm. But
that so-called allergy can also cause your blood pressure to
increase and now you are given a drug for that. Get the
picture? Incidentally, for many of the conditions where
drugs are prescribed, often a very effective non-chemical
treatment is available. Water is the very best natural
diuretic. Your body craves it and it doesnt cause
hypotension or hypertension.
My personal thought always is if I mixed all these
chemicals in a laboratory, what could happen? Might your
body be a living laboratory? I am going to conclude by
restating the signs of low blood pressure and the effects
they could have on you. Hypotension, or low blood pressure,
means that the pressure of blood circulating around the body
is lower than normal, or lower than expected. You may have
low blood pressure compared to others of similar physical
characteristics, but be perfectly healthy. Low blood
pressure is only a problem if you experience negative
symptoms. For example, vital organs (particularly the brain)
may be starved of oxygen and nutrients if your blood
pressure is too low. Your symptoms could include
lightheadedness, when standing from a sitting or lying
position, unsteadiness, dizziness, weakness, blurred vision,
fatigue, and fainting. Usually, low blood pressure develops
over time. Realise that you are in control, of your health,
your decisions, your symptoms, and any actions you are
prepared to take to deal with them. Does this sound like any
experiences you might have had? Please learn from this, but
do NOT make ANY changes without a medical practioner
supervising your actions. Doctors assume that you will
follow their instructions. They base their future advice and
decisions on this knowledge.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

I have been following the trial of Saddam Hussein.
The man and those others who are charged with crimes withi
him continue to disrupt the trial on the basis that he is
the president of Iraq. He refuses to accept he is now a
prisoner in the dock.
Not surprising. He was beligerant and ignorant during his
reign of terror and he is just as beligerant and ignorant
today.
It will be interesting to see what happens as the trial
draws to a close.
On another topic, Apple Computer opened a second retail
store in New York on Friday. This store has an entrance
through a 32 ft glass cube and is apparently somewhat
surreal when you enter. This is the first store Apple will
have open for 24 hours a day 365 days of the year.
The grand opening drew many celebrities and press and ended
up quite a sensation. It would have been rather neat to be
there. Can you imagine a computer store open 24/7?
In Afghanistan the Taleban are escalating attacks against
coalition forces. Last night coalition forces sent in
bombers to level some of the Taleban strongholds.
Unfortunately the Taleban rather than fight out in the open
as in a war, have elected to hide behind innocent civilians.
That's about par for the course. These people have
demonstrated themselves somewhat chicken at heart and a few
cards short of a deck when it comes to intelligence.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Naked Truth: Why do we call absolute truth "the naked
truth"?
Because, according to ancient legend, Truth and Falsehood
once went bathing. When they came out of the water,
Falsehood ran ahead, dressed herself in Truth's clothing and
sped away. Truth, unwilling to appear in Falsehood's
clothing, went "naked".

What Happened to the Woman
A police detective was investigating a homicide. As he
questioned the on-scene officer, he learned the body was
that of a young woman. The body was found with a bowl over
her head and a spoon stuck in her back.
The on-scene officer asked what the detective thought had
happened to the woman.
The detective responded, "I think it's obvious. A cereal
killer got her!"
