What The World Thinks . . .
(These tidbits come from letters I receive and are exclusively
the opinion of the writers. Yet they serve to show you the depth of
attitude and opinion out there.)
Here is an excerpt from a letter I received . . .
" . . . It is clear that those with an energy resource awareness
share a concern about the relationship between resource
depletion (especially the cheap energy kind) and potential
societal unsustainability.
We watch closely and with concern what is occurring in
Venezuela and Africa, and how they may affect our access to
what fuels the largest share of our industrial process. We
see growing European dependence on Russian oil and natural
gas. We see that Cantarell depletion in Mexico, and the fact
that it is almost the whole oil industry of that country,
which means that its crash will bring even more political
instability there, and even more Mexican citizens
desperately seeking to get out. (More than the 45 percent
who in a recent poll said they intended to get out.)
Our minds are cluttered with data that creates a skew of
priorities. We all probably yearn for intelligent leadership
and a process that allows it to achieve. So we tend to
respond to what we consider to be at the best, ill-informed
decision-making, or at the least, stupid leadership and a
system that doesn't allow for "answers" to problems.
My focus and concern is now on what I consider to be
legislative stupid decision making that is now in process.
My concern is fueled by knowledge of all the consequences of
a population "explosion" and the fact that it is being
incentivized right now by a bipartisan group of our
leadership. We already take in over 5 million people each
year through many legal means through a wide variety of
visas and programs. In addition we have a growing number of
illegal entry people (2-4 million ten years ago, 11 to 30
million today). And now Kennedy and Bush are pushing an
amnesty that essentially guarantees another 65 million will
be added to the already burdensome numbers coming into this
country within the next 20 plus years.
So I feel that I have an obligation to my children to try to
do something about that. I see serious consequences to them
if Kennedy-Bush get their way.
Rapid population growth means even more rapid
necessary-for-life resource depletion, whether it involves
polluted air and water, ecological degradation, or less
available cheap energy.
We should make clear what part of the problem we think it
makes the most sense in confronting. Electricity is
something we now essentially take for granted (except in
storms or blackouts). But its continuing availability is
questionable so long as our present population growth
continues unabated. We must understand the potential supply
of conventional and unconventional sources of energy, and
alternative and renewable forms of it. We can see that as
oil's price rises as depletion rates gradually kick in
(Cantarell, Ghawar, Daqing, Burgan), the fastest population
growth areas of this spaceship are less able to afford its
energizing life-blood, and it is clear that will have and
does now have obvious consequences.
So are we even capable of intelligent opinion-submission?
Can we influence opinion-makers? Should we even try? Or is
the situation hopeless?. . . . ."
Learn that "GLOBAL WARMING" is the least of man's problems . . .

What's the origin of the Swiss army knife?
The Swiss Army knife dates back to 1886 when the Swiss Army
began to equip its soldiers with a regulation single-blade
folding knife. Three years later, the army introduced a new
rifle that required a screwdriver to disassemble it. The
military decided to create a multi-purpose tool
incorporating a knife, screwdriver, can opener, and reamer.
Voila - the Swiss Army knife! The knives were initially made
in Germany, but a Swiss cutler soon established a knife
manufacturing plant capable of mass-producing the knives.
What is the vernal equinox?
"Equinox" is Latin for "equal night." Twice a year, in the
spring and in the fall, the sun passes directly over the
earth's equator and the length of day is nearly equal
throughout the entire world, with twelve hours of daylight
and twelve hours of darkness. In the spring, it's called the
vernal equinox ("equal night of spring") and in the fall,
the autumnal equinox. The vernal equinox marks the beginning
of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Building Bridges Is Far Superior
To Building Fences
Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining
farms fell into conflict. It was the first serious rift in
40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery,
and trading labor and goods as needed without a
hitch.
Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with
a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major
difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange
of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.
One morning there was a knock on John's door.
He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox.
"I'm looking for few days work" he said.
"Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here
and there. Could I help you?"
"Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you.
Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor,
in fact, it's my younger brother.
Last week there was a meadow between us and
he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now
there is a creek between us.
Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll
go him one better.
See that pile of lumber curing by the barn? I want
you to build me a fence, an 8-foot fence so I won't
need to see his place anymore. Cool him down,
anyhow.
The carpenter said, "I think I understand the
situation. Show me the nails and the post-hole
digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases
you."
The older brother had to go to town for supplies,
so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready
and then he was off for the day.
The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring,
sawing, nailing. About sunset when the farmer
returned, the carpenter had just finished his
job.
The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped.
There was no fence there at all. It was a bridge-
a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the
other! A fine piece of work handrails and all; and the
neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across,
his hand outstretched.
"You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after
all I've said and done."
The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge,
and then they met in the middle, taking each other's
hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his
toolbox on his shoulder. "No, wait! Stay a few days.
I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older
brother.
"I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I
have many more bridges to build."
There is not likely need to say more. This above story
is quite complete. How many times have we let ourselves
get emotionally worked up against someone, when, in
truth, they are simply doing their best, just as we are?
Sometimes people act in ways that appear to be against
us when really they act that way either for reasons we
don't know or see, or because they don't know they
hurt us. Think on that.
How many times have you gotten mad because a driver
has sped past you and cut you off? Then later you find
out his wife had just been in an accident, has life
threatening injuries and he has been called to the
hospital.
Be not quick to judge.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - by Karin Henderson
Hypertension, Meniere’s, And Stress:
A Different Way Of Thinking
PART 1 of 4
I had a very interesting and thought-provoking request
a little while ago. The gentleman (I will call him
Bill) had gone to his doctor with Meniere’s symptoms.
In the course of the conversation, it became apparent
that he was under some stress and his blood pressure
was a bit elevated. He left with a prescription for an
antihypertensive drug and the understanding that there
was nothing much to be done with his Meniere’s
symptoms. As well, a relative had Meniere’s. So it was
also alluded to that this condition was probably
hereditary. Bill did receive what I perceive to be the
traditional medical treatment. His doctor was obviously
trying to prevent possible cardiac problems. As usual,
and specifically in this case, I am going to ask you
not to use this information except for your own
learning and thinking. Please do not diagnose yourself.
what I am proposing is a different set of questions to
ask. That might be a bit contrary to what you normally
do. This is thinking outside traditional or routine
“box”. This is also NOT meant to offend any health care
professional. I simply want you to challenge your
thinking: to rely on your own powers of deduction and
observation. In fact I want to turn this whole idea
upside down.
Let’s discuss Hypertension, Meniere’s, and Stress
individually and then as a combination or related
group. I am using a regular medically-acceptable site
called Medline.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/mplusdictionary.html
If you don’t already use it, I would urge you to do so
for your own research when you need some
easy-to-understand descriptions. The encyclopedia
section is the best area for this purpose.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

I Get Asked . . .
I have been asked “How come you are so gung ho on this
climate change thing?”
Well, folks, that is the point I have been trying to make to
you. I wasn’t any more concerned about global warming than
any of you. But one day I decided I would have a look to see
if it would have any affect on my life. Maybe I should not
have done that. I was not very pleased with what I found.
Because I am concerned about you I decided to write a book
on my findings and make it available to you, plus set up a
web site that can be used by all of us to help us engineer
our way through this thing as it comes upon us.
I initially thought I should sell the book, then I changed
my mind. It is available to everyone, free. Go to
SurviveNThrive - http://thinksurvival.org/index.html
This business is very serious, likely far more serious than
anything you have ever dealt with. It is wise for you to
learn as much about it as is possible, and early. Only when
you learn will you be able to react with knowledge.
What I learned has changed my life already. I have begun a
systematic preparation for what is coming. I am liquidating
assets that I might be the better enabled to implement my
plans. I would encourage you to do the same.
ONE PROBLEM - many of you will look at this thing and
intellectually think “Yeah. I better do something.” then go
on with your daily lives. I encourage you to think
differently. This time is given to you that you may be
ready. Delay will cause you troubles you can avoid if you
plan now.
That’s why I am so gung ho on this climate change thing.
Mark my words, you will see a day when you are, too..

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Radio: Where die "radio get that name?
The word is derived from the Latin radius, meaning a "staff"
or the "spoke of a wheel," or a "ray of light". Radio waves
travel like rays of light - going out in all directions like
the spokes of a wheel.
