What The World Thinks . . .
(These tidbits come from letters I receive and are exclusively
the opinion of the writers. Yet they serve to show you the depth of
attitude and opinion out there.)

Here is an excerpt from a letter I received . . .

" . . . Threats of terrorism and twelve million "illegal" immigrants
are being used to justify new police-state measures in the
United States. Coordinated mass arrests, big brother spy
blimps, expanded detention centers, repeal of the Posse
Comitatus Act, and suspension of habeas corpus have all been
recently implemented and are ready to use against anyone in
the US.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) flooded
Mexico with cheap subsidized US agricultural products that
displaced millions of Mexican farmers. Between 2000 and
2005, Mexico lost 900,000 rural jobs and 700,000 industrial
jobs, resulting in deep unemployment throughout the country.
Desperate poverty has forced millions of Mexican workers
north in order to feed their families.

In the wake of 9/11, Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE)
has conducted workplace and home invasions across the
country in an attempt to roundup "illegal" immigrants. ICE
justifies these raids under the rubric of keeping our
homeland safe and preventing terrorism. However the real
goal of these actions is to disrupt the immigrant work force
in the US and replace it with a tightly regulated non-union
guest-worker program. This policy is endorsed by companies
seeking permanent low-wage workers through a lobby group
called Essential Worker Immigrations Coalition (EWIC).
EWIC's fifty-two members include the US Chamber of Commerce,
Wal Mart, Marriott, Tyson Foods, American Meat Institute,
California Landscape Contractors Association, and the
Association of Builders and Contractors.

A new program, established by the Department of Justice in
cooperation with Homeland Security, uses the code-name
Operation Falcon (Federal and Local Cops Organized
Nationally). Operation Falcon carried out three
unprecedented federally-coordinated mass arrests between
April 2005 and October 2006. More than 30,000 fugitives,
including immigrants, were arrested in the largest dragnets
in the nation's history. The operations directly involved
over 960 agencies including FBI, ICE, IRS, Homeland Security
and other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.

To accommodate the detention of tens of thousands of people,
Homeland Security, in 2005, awarded Halliburton's subsidiary
KBR a $385 million contingency contract to build detention
camps in the United States. According to the Halliburton
website, "The contract provides for establishing temporary
detention and processing capabilities to augment existing
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Detention and
Removal Operations (DRO) Program facilities in the event of
an emergency influx of immigrants into the US, or to support
the rapid development of new programs."
. . ."

Learn that "GLOBAL WARMING" is the least of man's problems . . .

TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

-----------------------

Where did the molasses come from?

Didn't the Great Molasses Flood occur in Missisippi?

--------------

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

At what time of year is the Earth nearest to the sun?

You'd think it would be in the summer, when the sun
certainly FEELS closer. But the Earth is actually nearer the
sun in January than it is in June or July - by three million
miles. So what causes the seasons, then? The Earth tilts on
an axis and the planet also spins as it orbits, sort of like
a spinning top. Each pole points to some imaginary spot off
in space even though it is circling the sun. Because of
this, when the Earth orbits the sun, the north and south
poles slowly change their relationship to the sun,
determining how many hours each hemisphere receives
sunlight. It's spring in your hemisphere when because of the
Earth's tilt, your hemisphere is LEANING nearest to the sun
and daylight is longest.

Is it true that nearly two dozen people drowned in molasses
in the Great Molasses Flood of 1919?

It sounds like something somebody made up, but it's actually
true. On January 15, 1919 in Boston, 21 people, a dozen
horses, and a cat met sudden and untimely ends in a gooey
flood of hot molasses traveling about 35 miles per hour. Of
course, the explosion of molasses was violent, and the
molasses was hot, so the coroner probably would not have
ruled the deaths "drownings."

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

The sound made by the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is so loud
that it can be heard 40 miles away.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

If It Don't Feel Right ... It Isn't

A guy stopped at a local gas station and, after filling his
tank, he paid the bill and bought a soft drink. He stood
by his car to drink his cola and watched a couple of
men working along the roadside. One man would dig
a hole two or three feet deep and then move on. The
other man came along behind him and filled in the hole.
While one was digging a new hole, the other was 25 feet
behind filling in the hole. The men worked right past the
guy with the soft drink and went on down the road.

"I can't stand this," said the man tossing the can into a
trash container and heading down the road toward
the men. "Hold it, hold it," he said to the men. "Can
you tell me what's going on here with all this digging
and refilling?"

"Well, we work for the government and we're just doing
our job," one of the men said.

"But one of you is digging a hole and the other fills it up.
You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you wasting
the taxpayers' money?"

"You don't understand, mister," one of the men said,
leaning on his shovel and wiping his brow. "Normally
there's three of us: me, Elmer and Leroy. I dig the hole,
Elmer sticks in the tree and Leroy, here, puts the dirt back.
Elmer's job's been cut... so now it's just me an' Leroy"

This is an exaggeration, of course, yet it reveals to us
a message we should all think about. How often do you
get into a situation where for some reason you sense it
doesn't feel right?

Sometimes that can be while you are driving down the
road and "feel" you taken the wrong turn, or it may be
that you are doing some work where you "feel" it isn't
right. Maybe you are hiking in the wilderness and danger
is lurking that you don't know about, but something
doesn't "feel" right.

My advice ... LISTEN! That's right, pay attention. If
something doesn't feel just quite right to you sooner or
later it will prove you right. When you get that "feeling"
get out, quite what you're doing, stop. Stop and have
a look, analyze.

Paying attention to what you are being told is your Maker's
mechanism of forewarning you of something about to
go wrong. Some call it intuition. Call what you want but
pay attention to it. Doing so will save you time and
frustration at the very least, and your life at the very most.

This "sixth sense" is a part of our survival mechanism. It
permits us to proceed in safety. It acts as a warning to us
that we are proceeding down the wrong path. The sooner
you pay attention the sooner you will get back on the
right path.

Consider ... If It Don't Feel Right ... It Isn't

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson

Hypertension, Meniere’s, And Stress:
A Different Way Of Thinking
PART 3 of 4

Stress is defined as Anxiety; Feeling uptight; Stress;
Tension; Jitters; Apprehension.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003211.
htm

“Stress can come from any situation or thought that
makes you feel frustrated, angry, or anxious. What is
stressful to one person is not necessarily stressful to
another. Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension or fear.
The source of this uneasiness is not always known or
recognized, which can add to the distress you feel.”

In case you have never heard of Meniere’s disease
before, I want to give you a tiny bit of insight
through this article. At the beginning, I mentioned
Bill’s visit to his doctor. He had already had his
Meniere’s symptoms for some time. Put yourself into his
shoes…. What if… you started to feel dizzy
occasionally, and maybe had some unpleasant buzzing in
your ear. And sometimes your ear would feel full as
though it had water in it. It was annoying and you
couldn’t get rid of it. And these feelings would come
once in a while and then disappear for a long time.
Suddenly one day, you had to grasp the edge of your
desk to steady yourself and someone had to drive you
home or to Emergency. Normal? I don’t think so. Scary?
Yes, Very. Your doctor or the hospital staff asked you
questions and you really had no answers. Eventually you
would go home and life continued. But every once in a
while you still have this dizziness and pressure and
your hearing comes and goes. And this goes on for
months or days…or even years. Could this be worrisome?
Could it be stressful? Could this stress lead to
increasing your blood pressure over time?

Let’s look at these symptoms a little more closely.
Dizziness. Vertigo. If you are suddenly faced with mild
or severe vertigo, chances are you would find it
difficult to handle your job or your responsibilities.
Sometimes this spinning is so strong it throws you to
the ground! Sometimes you feel so dizzy and bump into
things that people think you are drunk or on drugs.
Then you have hearing fluctuation which means one
minute you can hear well and the next you can’t hear
anything or a just a little bit. Then there is the
tinnitus. This pertains to noise of any sort: from
strong sounds to buzzing. Part of a day. Sometimes.
Occasionally.  Or constantly in different tones. One
ear or both ears.

Do you think this could be stressful for you? Could it
maybe raise your blood pressure? Would you like to be
told you have to live with this for the rest of your
life? Would you maybe get a bit concerned about your
future? Could you ask yourself “why”? Why would
something come and go, with no apparent reason. Or
could there be a reason? And what could possibly have
any connection to things you were doing one moment or
day…and not again for a while…or very frequently and
then not again for a year? Or several years? Sometimes
for 15 years! Would it be possible that something made
you dizzy? And why would someone get dizzy?

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Closing A Chapter Isn't Closing a Book . . .

The closing of a chapter in a book does not mean the book is
finished. It only means one has finished a chapter. That is
what is happening with our stopping publication of
thePEBBLE.

It will give me a chance to do things I have put off for a
very long time. Where my focus was single mindedly working
in your interests, at least that is how I thought of it, my
time will now be devoted to me, my wife and family.

I can see myself taking on other pursuits, such as promotion
of the thinksurvival.org web site. I see myself doing more
writing. I see myself doing the things my wife and I want to
do together. Does that sound like retirement? Or at least
practicing retirement? I guess so.

I do know that since Mom and I moved into our new home on a
lake we have gotten away from running our lives by the
clock. It has taken seven or eight years but we are getting
closer to the rhythms of nature, and we like it that way.

I can well see the world will go on without thePEBBLE and
that is how it should be. If you and I were like ships
passing in the night, if some of the light I shed in passing
has done you some good them I am immensely pleased. It has
most certainly been a pleasure to serve you.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Salad Days: What is the reason we call a man's youth his
"salad days"?

It's because when a man is young, he's "green" and "greens
go into making a salad.

HA! HA! HA!

Two priests were determined to make this a real vacation by
not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy.

As soon as the plane landed, they headed for a store and
bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, and
sunglasses.

The next morning, they went to the beach, dressed in their
"tourist" garb.

They were sitting on beach chairs, enjoying a drink, the
sunshine and the scenery when a "drop dead gorgeous" blonde
in a very tiny bikini came walking straight towards them.

They couldn't help but stare.

As the blond passed them, she smiled and said, "Good morning
Father," "Good morning Father," nodding and addressing each
of them individually, then passed on
by.

They were both stunned. How in the world did she know they
were priests?

The next day, they went back to the store, bought even more
outrageous outfits.

Once again they settled on the beach in their chairs to
enjoy the sunshine.

After a while, the same gorgeous blonde, wearing a string
bikini this time and showing a very nice tan, came walking
toward them.

Again, she approached them and greeted them individually:
"Good morning, Father," "Good morning, Father," and started
to walk away.

One of the priests couldn't stand it and said, "Just a
minute young lady".

"Yes?" she replied.

"We are priests, and proud of it, but I have to know, how in
the world did you know we are priests?"

"Father it's me, Sister Angela."
