TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

Is it true that a 500-ton meteor narrowly missed destroying
Pittsburgh?

Is it true that armadillos always give birth to four
identical young?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -

Where did the molasses come from?

The molasses poured out of a huge 58-foot-high, 90-foot wide
cast-iron tank. The tank held 2.2 million gallons of
molasses. When it burst, the molasses poured down Commercial
Street like an eight-foot wave of lava, destroying
everything in its path, including the fire station. The
molasses crushed buildings, lifted an elevated train off the
tracks, and buried everything it passed over. In addition to
the deaths, more than 150 people were injured.

Didn't the Great Molasses Flood occur in Missisippi?

It's even harder to believe that there were TWO Great
Molasses Floods, but there WERE two. The second one, which
strangely enough ALSO killed exactly 21 people, took place
on December 11, 1932 in Sucarnoochee, Missisippi. As in the
earlier incident, a tank exploded and hot liquid roared
through town.

GOOD BYE, FOLKS, AND THANKS

Who Woulda Thunk It?

Over all the years of publishing it never occurred to me we,
you and I, would see this day. This is the last official
PEBBLE.

For over 15 years I have been doing a daily newsletter and
the last 10 of those have been thePEBBLE in one form or
another.

Over the years we have had contributing authors and assorted
columns. The most successful of them all have been The Saga
of Pinehill, our Medical Column with Karin Henderson and Dr.
Rhoberta Shaler’s column Optimize Life Now™.

We tried many different things and pioneered the newsletter
until we got it to a point where folks read it and looked
forward to receiving it. Alone that was an accomplishment.

But thePEBBLE functioned as a springboard, too. It was the
basis of two books that were published and it is serving as
the basis for a book by Karin Henderson. Along with that Dr.
Shaler has mentioned some things she is doing where her
experience with thePEBBLE was of value.

All over the internet we see excerpts of thePEBBLE. Our
stories and articles have found a home in many places and it
warms our heart to think they are of value.

thePEBBLE web site will be maintained for a while, with
links to other stuff I will be doing, so drop back often.

I intend to put a great deal of effort into the
thinksurvival.org site and I invite each of you to drop over
and sign up. We will be continually on the lookout for ways
we can all do well under the influence of global warming.

On a serious note, folks, that will be the issue of the day
for the next 20 to 50 years, maybe longer. I encourage you
to come to our thinksurvival.org site and sign up. It will
prove to be useful for you.

On that note allow me to say what a wonderful pleasure it
has been to publish thePEBBLE. I have met many friends along
the way and I have enjoyed every minute of it. Yet it is
time for me to close one chapter of my life and open
another. Those times, though hard, are good times. I will
always remember you, think of you, and I wish you well in
all you do. Please feel free to send me an email once in a
while letting me know how you are doing. Thanks.

Unto each of you I send my blessings for a happy and
prosperous life. Godspeed to all.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - with Karin Henderson

Hypertension, Meniere’s, And Stress:
A Different Way Of Thinking
PART 4 of 4

What part of the body gives you that symptom? This all
has to do the balance nerve. And this nerve is situated
in the inner ear and is located close to the hearing
nerve, also in the inner ear. Let’s look at hearing
fluctuation. What would give you any symptoms? Anything
that irritates, disturbs, or influences that (hearing)
nerve. (That may also go for the balance nerve, but not
necessarily.) Do you think any of this might give you
additional stress? Is there anything you can do about
the symptoms so you don’t get them and have to deal
with these unpleasant feelings? Do you think that any
two nerves that are so close together might also be
disturbed by the same thing? I also would like to
encourage you to search for more conditions or things
that might possibly contribute to having these
symptoms. Did you know that some dental work or sinus
conditions can make you dizzy and also create a lot of
pressure? Did you realise that if your ear was already
sensitive, any vibrations such as using an electric
toothbrush could set off similar symptoms? Or
artificial sweeteners? Or exposure to mold and other
possible toxins such as time-release fertilizers?

Many drugs list tinnitus or dizziness as a side effect.
And here is a huge potential “problem” creator…amalgam
fillings. They are the mercury or silver ones.

So my final question might be…then how could a drug for
high blood pressure help out these symptoms? Just
asking….could there be another way of tackling Bill’s
problems? Ops!  That was another question. But my point
is this. Could there be another reason for Bill’s
elevated blood pressure? Could there be another way of
looking at this problem? Things are often not what they
first appear to be. Just as I am finishing this article
I spoke with a lady who had asked me to check out a
drug her doctor prescribed. She was suffering from
dizziness and vertigo and tinnitus. Guess what the side
effects of the drug were. Many of these chemicals don’t
belong to your body “naturally”. Could it be that your
body is reacting to them? The term “side effect” is
there for a reason. To get a good sampling of
information, you may want to do your own research by
checking out several sites and while you are in each
one, see who the sponsors are.  Can you now see a
connection with hypertension, Meniere’s and stress?

If anyone of these conditions is a part of your life,
take control by asking questions that are not the
normal, expected ones. Ask yourself how all this ties
together. Your answers will always come as long as you
persevere in your search. It is your body. No one can
ever describe how dizziness and tinnitus affect you. It
is a very personal and stressful “always on guard”
lifestyle. Could it possibly elevate your blood
pressure? Probably. Are their possible solutions? Only
you will find that answer, but it won’t come about
until you start your search and then it may take time.
Is it worth it? From the comments I receive, it is the
only thing to do.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

-----------------------END DISCLAIMER

Thanks For The Memories! . . .

You know, the very young and the very old are able to get
away with what I call selective hearing. Many times when you
are young and your mother or father yells out “Johnny! Leave
your little brother alone” you disregard it and keep on
pulling his ear.

And when you are old and your wife says “KEN! For the third
time, will you take out the garbage?” you often know she’s
good for four times so you let it go until she hollers at
you again.

I don’t know, for sure, if that is what you folks were doing
to me with regard to this column or not. I put in the
disclaimer that they are only the ramblings from a simple
soul yet sometimes I am sure I stepped on a few toes.

If I did I did not mean to inflict pain, only introduce
another point of view. You see I’m just like the rest of
you. I think I’m right. But then most murderers think they
are right too, so that doesn’t amount to much. That’s why I
encouraged you to do your own thinking. Hopefully you did.

I will be doing a weekly newsletter called SurviveNThrive
for the thinksurvival.org site. If you want to continue
getting my ramblings you can get them there.

Thanks for letting me bend your ear. It has been a slice.
Don’t forget I can be reached at my email address anytime
you like.

Until then I offer you that old Irish wish -

May you be a long time in heaven before the devil knows
you’re gone.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Salary: Where did we get the word "salary"?

From the ancient Romans. The word literally means "salt
money". The Roman soldier was once given an allowance of
salt; then he was given an allowance of money for the
purchase of salt. This was called a salarium - from sal,
meaning "salt".

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"Nothing is more common than unfulfilled potential." -–
Howard Hendricks

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

At a nursing home in Miami, Florida, a group of Senior
Citizens were sitting around talking about their ailments:

"My arms are so weak I can hardly lift this cup of coffee,"
said one.

"Yes, I know. My cataracts are so bad I can't even see my
coffee," replied another.

"I can't turn my head because of the arthritis in my neck,"
said a third, to which several nodded weakly in agreement.

"My blood pressure pills make me dizzy,? another went on.

"I guess that's the price we pay for getting old," winced an
old man as he slowly shook his head.

Then there was a short moment of silence.

"Well, it's not that bad," said one woman cheerfully. "Thank
God we can all still drive."
