Is left-handedness passed down through families?
Handedness does run in families, but scientists are
unsure how much to attribute to genetics and how much
to attribute to environmental pressure, such as parents
purposefully or accidentally teaching their kids to use
a certain hand. There does appear to be SOME genetic
component, as adoption studies suggest that adopted
kids tend to follow the handedness of their birth parents.
People who believe left-handedness is genetic also
point to the famous Kerr clan of Scotland, whose members
were mostly left-handed. The Kerrs even built staircases
in their castles that spiraled counter-clockwise, so they'd
be easier to defend by lefty swordsmen. Studies assessing
the handedness of Kerrs and Carrs (their relatives)
currently living have been inconclusive.
Where is the sun when you see a rainbow?
You might not have noticed it before, but the sun is
always behind you when you see a rainbow and the
center of the circular arc of the bow is in the direction
opposite to that of the sun. Rainbows, after all, are seen
when sunlight falls upon a collection of water drops
(rain, mist, fog). The colors of the rainbow are caused
by the refraction and internal reflection of light rays that
enter the raindrop, each color being bent through a
slightly different angle. Rainbows are generally made
up of seven colors - red, orange, yellow, green, blue,
indigo, and violet. The easy way to remember the order
of the colors is to remember the mnemonic "Roy G. Biv."

Looking Inside Your New Business

Starting a home business is like putting together a
jigsaw puzzle. You're facing a pile of scattered pieces
and it may be a little uncertain where to begin.
I think that the best way to begin is by taking a look
inside yourself: at your talents, abilities, interests,
and personal motivations.
1. Make an objective list of your talents and abilities.
Ask friends and family what they think you're good
at doing. You must be skilled in your field; whether
it's computer programming, selling, cooking,
baking, etc.
2. Make a list with activities you enjoy.
This often will point to natural skills and abilities,
and can be directed into business ideas.
3. Make a list about "how would I like to spend a perfect
day" or a weekend, a holyday, a vacation. On one hand,
such kind of list will help you understand your interests
and personality. On the other hand, it's possible to find
some answers regarding your future venture just reading
between the lines
4. Make a list with products and services you receive.
Evaluate what is good and bad to everyone. If you find
something is bad, think how you could improve it. Please,
give this evaluating process your undivided attention,
and you will discover few starting points for your
new business.
5. Make a list with products and services you need,
but you can't find yet You'll be surprised at how many
new ideas will rise in your head.
6. Make a list with what your friends and colleagues
are saying they want or need. Their comments may
inspire you to start a new service.
Before starting filling and evaluating the above list,
think that many exciting businesses didn't even exist
a few years ago. So try to be as creative as you can.
You need to think out of the box, you need new pair
of "glasses" in order to see potential business
opportunities all around you.
But take care, a good idea doesn't automatically
translate into a success business. There must be a
market demand, I mean people willing to pay for
your product or service.
The final advice. It's important to be clear about why
you want to start a business, and what "success" would
mean to you. You probably want to earn money. It's ok,
but how much ? Or may be you need a personal
status or to be recognized as an expert in certain
field, but how high ?

Modem
If the screeching sound make by your modem (called
handshaking) is too loud, you can decrease the volume. Go
to the Control Panel and click the modem icon. Click the
Properties button and in the general tab, slide the speaker
volume as far to the left, as you want until the sound is at a
level that you want. You can even turn the volume the
entire way off if needed.

To Be Vaccinated Or

Jointly, the World Health Organization and individual
countries determine the viruses that will be targeted for
immunization. A common misconception is that you will
have immunity immediately. That isn't the case. Your body
has to develop this, and it takes time. Usually within
two weeks after vaccination, the body’s immune system
produces antibodies against antigens of the virus strains,
which make up the vaccine. Immunity does not occur
prior to that time. The antibodies (defense army) provide
protection against the flu caused by strains similar to
those in the vaccine or the related variants that may
emerge during outbreak periods. However, it will not
give you any support if you are exposed to a strain that
is not one of these in the vaccine. I recall one "flu season"
where people complained to having had a flu shot and
still getting the flu. The vaccine does not contain a live
virus that could be infectious, therefore, "it cannot cause
the flu." If you are ill afterwards it will be the result of
coincidental illnesses or because you were already
incubating a virus. Research is showing that the
vaccination may also stimulate the production of
T-lymphocytes, which help you recover more quickly,
if you are exposed to the infection before your full
immunity is in place. I have been involved with the
"flu season" for several years now. And the arguments
on both sides of the issues seem valid. If you don't get
immunized and your health is not in good shape, you
could get the flu and be off for several weeks…

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"And this is the canoe David carved in time for
Mazunta's and Eloise's wedding. He unveiled it just
before they were to leave on their honeymoon. This
is the canoe they used. These two canoes are the
talk up and down the river. Isn't this a marvelous
carving? This is why Ben Striker went back to Pinehill
and spoke to the council there about the carving."
David truly was good at carving and this one was
clearly a masterpiece. All this he had done before
learning to live by higher law. Now his carving would
take him no time at all, if he put higher law to use.
"David, this is marvelous. Really!" said Bob, obviously
impressed.
They returned a little higher up on the beach, out of the
way of the kids game of ball, and sat, just to enjoy the
view.
The day remained hot and clear. The view up and down
the river was a terrific panorama. The river was swelling
and filled up the land for as far as the eye could see in
all directions. The beach where they sat had a high enough
and steep enough bank at the waters edge that the river
never did flood them.
Lynn and Bob were enthralled at the sight. It was breathtaking,
especially when they had just left a land of snow and ice.
They lay back to basque in the heat of the sun.
"You guys live like this all the time?" asked Bob.
"For the most part, Bob, our life is without pressure or a clock.
There is a certain rhythm here that is easy to pick up. We both
found it took nearly six months to lose the "city effect", you
know the buzz that goes along with everyone being busy?
Then we settled in and while we have not spoken of it in a
while, I don't think we would want to live back in Pinehill
again." answered David.
"I can certainly see why. But what about the kids education?
What are you going to do to make them fit for
society?" asked Lynn.
"They are already being trained for the society in which they
are living. But I think you mean are they going to be schooled
like we were in Pinehill? Are they going to be trained to live
in that society and be contributing citizens? Is that what you
mean?" asked Pam, she was getting a little on the defensive.
"Something like that, Pam!" said her Dad.
David broke in here, for he could see what was going to
happen if Pam and her Father got going again on topics
where they differed.
"Bob, Pam and I both agree all children should be brought
up to contribute to the society in which they live. You are
bordering dangerously close to saying that the society in
Pinehill, or anywhere in the States for that matter, is the
only society we should train our children in, or at least that
one first, then others. We like living here, and at this moment
are hard pressed to think of reasons why we should equip
our children to live in places like Pinehill. They can live just
fine right here." said David, rather firmly and with authority.
"But - -" and Bob shut up when he felt the kick from his wife.
The conversation went to other topics.
Finally the sun got to be too hot to remain on the beach.
The kids were used to it but the Hunters were not. They
walked slowly back to the hut, where Mae was sitting with
little Mae Eloise in her arms. It looked as if Mae had not
moved. She had, of course, but she was now back in the
same position she was when they left.
"Here, Mom, let me take her from you. You must be tired
of her." said Pam.
"I'll never tire of this one, Pam. We've been doing just fine,
she and I." said Mae as she handed the baby to Pam.
"Well, how did you like our little village. Pretty small
isn't it?" she said to the Hunters.
"It's very nice Mae. I don't know that I could learn to live
here, but it is certainly nice visiting. It seems to us there
isn't enough to do." said Lynn in response to Mae's question.
"That is what got to me, too, when we first came down. If it
were not for Pam and the baby, I don't think I would have
made it. Eloise took me up to see her parents a couple
times, but other than that I've been here as long as the
kids. It grows on you, Lynn. It grows on you. And it is
certainly a great deal healthier living here than it is in
Pinehill." answered Mae.
"But what about your friends? What about obligations
at home? What about the nice things you have there?" asked
Lynn. She didn't know she had touched one of Mae's touchy
spots and was about to get a pretty firm answer.
