Caleb Bradham invented the soda and sold it at
his drugstore soda fountain. He changed its name to
"Pepsi-Cola" in 1898 when it became popular. The
new name came from one of the main ingredients
in the drink - pepsin (a substance used to relieve
indigestion).
Just what IS the Dow?
Lately, the Dow is all you hear about. It's falling, it
closed below 10,000, it's a serious situation. What does
that mean, exactly? The Dow - short for Dow Jones
Industrial Average - is an index of the average closing
prices of thirty blue-chip stocks. There are thousands of
stocks on the market, of course, but these thirty are used
to gauge and forecast the health of the overall economy.
Charles Henry Dow, a nineteenth century financial
journalist, is the one who invented this system to track
fluctuations in the stock market. When Charles was
doing it, there were only eleven stocks on his list, most
of them railroads. He added up the closing price of one
share of each of the eleven stocks, then divided by eleven
to find the average. Dow added nineteen industrial
company stocks to the list in 1928. New companies are
only added now if a stock already on the list goes
bankrupt or merges.

Tomorrow Never Comes

There's a song that says, "Never worry about tomorrow,
tomorrow never comes."
How true those lyrics are.
We spend so much time worrying about what tomorrow will
bring that we miss out on the pleasures of today.
We listen to the news and the advertisers who have made
it their business to scare us with their headlines.
As soon as a baby is born, they start making the parents
feel guilty if they don't have a college fund set up.
They ask the older citizens, "Will your family be taken
care of when you've passed away?"
Planning for the future is fine, but what happened to
enjoying today's sunset, or a leisurely walk in the
woods.
What happened to "giving no thought for the morrow?"
That statement doesn't me you shouldn't plan for the
future. It means don't obsess and worrying over what may
or may not come.
There's a story about two women vacationing in Hawaii.
They're walking through this beautiful garden and the
one woman turns and says to her friend, "I wish Charlie
was here to see this."
The next day they're walking along a beautiful beach and
she turns to her friend and says again, "I wish Charlie
was here to see this."
This went on everyday of their vacation. Every beautiful
site they visited, she would repeat that phrase.
So who was Charlie?
Charlie was her husband who had recently passed away.
They had spent their whole married lives planning their
big vacation to Hawaii.
Sadly they never got to go, because Charlie was always
too busy working to secure their future.
Charlie never realized "tomorrow never comes."
What could have been a dream come true never happened.
This woman had to take that vacation by herself, wishing
Charlie was there to share it with her.
Don't lose today's pleasures worrying about what tomorrow
will bring.
Tomorrow never comes.

To Be Vaccinated Or
Not To Be Vaccinated ...

We are doing an invasive procedure to your body, so your
consent is needed. Otherwise we don't do the injection. It
will ask for your name, address, birthdate, and phone
number. And then it asks some very specific questions
as to your present state of health. (You shouldn't be
immunized if you are already ill as this puts a further strain
on the immune system.) You will be asked ... If you have
a serious fever or respiratory infection. If you have you
ever had an allergic reaction to any vaccine ... Or a severe
reaction to the flu immunization before ... If within one
day of receiving the vaccine in previous years, you had
redness in both eyes and/or respiratory symptoms
(cough, wheeze, chest tightness, difficulty breathing or
swallowing, or hoarseness) and/or sore throat, and/or
facial swelling? Did you have ever had a serious allergic
reaction to eggs ... If you are allergic to Thimerosal ...
(mercury, used as a preservative) If you are you allergic
to gelatin or neomycin sulphate (an antibiotic) ... If you
have you ever developed Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)
within 6 weeks of receiving the flu vaccine (a temporary
inflammation of the nerves causing, numbness or partial
paralysis in the extremities). If you are you pregnant: or suspect
that you are pregnant ... If you are you taking any drug
to thin your blood ... (clotting time might be altered). If you
are you allergic to deoxycholate? (a substance naturally
occurring in the bile of humans). If you are you allergic
to formaldehyde ... (another preservative).

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

That simple little act by a small child, little Maz holding
his hand, took Bob's heart and sent it into that place of
most cherished emotions. He had never felt this way
before, what with being too busy and all. This little hand
in his, so trusting, so loving, gave Bob such powerful
feelings he could hardly explain. It was one of those
moments where he took a photograph with his heart.
They walked slowly, taking into observation all they
passed. The people of the village were all busy with one
thing and another, just their normal daily lives.
Upon cresting the hill from the beach they looked into the
opening that opened up unto the village. There, with the
sun shining just right was a wonderful picture of village
life. Bob had been taking pictures ever since he arrived.
Now he let go of little Maz's hand and took this picture.
It was one of those you only see in magazines or
motion pictures.
Somehow this day was romantic in everything that
happened. The Hunters almost felt like they were
floating in earth, being privileged to witness a place of
love and joy. They did not feel grounded, neither did
they want to.
"Hi, you guys! You called us for lunch?" asked David
as they approached the fire in front of the hut.
"Sure did, hon." said Pam as she came up and gave
him a kiss on the cheek.
"So, Lynn, Bob tells me you had a good sleep last
night." said David
"Oh my! It was wonderful. I don't know how that could
be, but I have never slept better. That bed is so hard, I
don't know how it could feel like it did. I want to sleep
there again tonight." answered Lynn.
"So you don't want to go home then?" asked David.
"Gee, David, that thought never even crossed my mind.
Can we stay another day?" asked Lynn.
"Of course you can Lynn. You can stay as long as you
want. You are more than welcome. It's just that yesterday
you were so frightened about coming here that I said I
would take you back home today, if you wanted." David
reminded her.
Lynn looked at Bob. Then they both broke out laughing.
"I don't know how we could have been so foolish, David.
We have had such a wonderful time I think I would like
to stay for a while. I had no idea you lived in paradise.
Pam and I have had a good morning, I want it to keep
going." Lynn said.
"You couldn't have had much morning. From what I see
you haven't been up that long." laughed David, "You are
both welcome to stay as long as you want. I am glad you
feel that way."
"Well we do have some bills to pay and a medical
appointment at the end of the week, so we will have to
go back for that, but we'll stay two more days, anyway,
and thank you for having us." said Bob
"I tell you what. I'll see if I can get some of the fellows to
paddle us upstream for a ways, so you can see the life
along the river. Would the pair of you like that?" asked
David.
"I would love that." said Bob, clutching his camera.
"I - I am not sure David. I like spending time here with Pam.
Why don't you men go and tell us all about it when you
return." said Lynn.
Lynn was a timid girl and always like to have her husband
try things before she did. She didn't know what she was
afraid of but over the years of their marriage she had
developed this habit of letting Bob do things first, just
to be sure.
"Lynn, I meant for you and Bob, Pam and I and the kids
to go. It would take two canoes. It would be like a picnic.
Maybe Boolanga and Karmuz would like to come, or
Eloise and Mazunta?" mentioned David.
"That sounds like a real good idea. We'd be perfectly
safe Lynn. These are experienced people on the
river." said Bob.
"My goodness! Surely you aren't worried about your
safety?" said Pam in complete surprise.

done us in. We both have colds that are leaving us
tired and without motivation today. Picked up some
