So why do people in so many other countries drive
on the right, then?
Blame it on France. During the period of the French
Revolution, the French began to drive on the right.
Some say it was just part of the country's sweeping
social reforms. Others blame it on the left-handed
Napoleon. One explanation is that the French aristocracy
drove their carriages at great speed on the left-hand
side of the road, forcing the peasants over to the right
side for their own safety. When the revolution started,
the aristocrats joined the peasants on the right side
as a matter of self-preservation. ("Hey, guys, I may
be rich, but I'm a peasant at heart!") The first official
record of this was a keep-right rule introduced in
Paris in 1794. So, England is left, France is right.
What about the rest of the world? Well, any part
of the world that was at some time colonized by the
British followed the British way and any part colonized
by the French followed the French way. So India,
Australia, and much of Africa drove on the left
(although many African countries changed when
they gained independence), and Egypt and much
of Europe drove on the right. In America, the
French colonized the southern states, such as
Louisiana, and the Canadian east coast, and the
British colonized parts of the rest of the country
(of course, the Dutch, Spanish, and Portuguese
got in there, too). However, when the Americans
were severing ties with the British, they adopted
the keep-right policy of the French. Once the US
began driving on the right and producing cars,
many other countries adopted the practice out of
necessity. Today, only about a quarter of the world
drives on the left and they live mostly in countries
that once made up the British Empire.
What about Japan?
Japan drives on the left. This, too, can be attributed
to the British. In the 1850s, gunboat diplomacy
forced the Japanese to open their ports to the British.
Sir Rutherford Alcock, Queen Victoria's representative
to the Japanese court, persuaded them to adopt
the keep-left rule.

Cornpone and Treewood

Cornpone Taggart and Hamstrung Treewood are a
couple country hicks. Cornpone, known as "Pone" or
"Old Pone" earns his living on the internet, and has
since he left what schooling he had. He's a lazy cuss,
and figured the internet was the way to earn the kind
of living he wanted. He thought it beat the backbreaking
sweat soaking work that was the kind you could
get in his town.
Hamstrung Treewood, didn't pay much attention to
computers in school and went out to work in the
backbreaking world in town. He had been without
work for a while and Pone was teaching him how to
set up a business on the internet.
The story continues.

"Las' week Strung we was atalkin' 'bout yer writin'.
I's said I's agonna have a look a' acoupla newsletters
an' see hows yous is adoin'. I's done tha'." said
Cornpone Taggart to his buddy, Hamstrung Treewood.
The pair of them were sitting in the town common
under Pone's favorite tree.
"Gees it's cold ou' here t'day, Pone. Don' yous ever
sits nowwheres else?" asked Strung.
"Naw! It never gits tha' cold I's cain' sit here. B'sides I's
ain' agonna be here long, Now to yer writin',
Strung" said Pone.
"Ya, what 'bout it?" Strung retorted.
"Now don' go agittin' defensive afore we even start
atalkin' Strung. I's athinkin' yous is adoin' pretty good
acchally." said Pone.
"Yous mean it Pone?" asked Strung, hungry for a compliment.
"Sure Strung. I's athinkin yous gots some work on
grammar and a bit on spellin' but fer the most part yous
is adoin' fine. I does have some suggestions
fer ya." said Pone.
"Wha's that Pone?" asked Strung.
"Well, ta start off, I's thinks yous is a touch cold and
sterile. Tha's no' uncommon when yous firs' starts awritin'.
The nex' time yous does any writin' why don' yous sit down
and write as if yous an' I's is asittin' here a talkin'. Write
yer piece as if yous was talkin' direct ta somebody yous
knows. Tha' way the piece will come out like normal
conversation. It'll be natural and it'll feel tha' way too. Yous
go an' give it a try, an' I'll watch fer it. If'n its good enuff I's
agonna talk to yous 'bout the nex' step." said Pone.
"Tha's a good idee, Pone. I's agonna go an' try it. I's
agonna see yous nex' week." said Strung, and with
that he was off.

Death could occur if a small child swallowed an entire
bottle of iron supplements. It is important to keep all
iron supplements securely sealed and out of reach of
children.
Sources and Recommended Intake:
The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of iron is
10 mg a day for males and 15 mg a day for females.
The RDA increases to 30 mg a day during pregnancy.
6 Best sources of iron include red meats, poultry, and fish,
which contain heme iron (iron bound to hemoglobin and
myoglobin). Organ meats, such as liver, are some of the
richest sources of dietary iron.
2 Other foods sources include green leafy vegetables,
legumes, whole or enriched grain products, nuts, and
seeds.
3 Many commercially prepared foods such as breakfast
cereals are iron fortified. Consciously eating a well-balanced
diet should provide adequate amounts of dietary iron for
most people.
4 Absorption of iron increases when iron body stores are low.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

The kids at the shrine were doing just great. There had
been no more attempts at robbery since the last one
failed. The news had spread all over the city and the
crooks were soon the laughing stock of town. For that
matter their life was no better in prison either, where
the police made sure the story got out. They were
embarrassed and humiliated every day.
However, things were not all rosy. In spite of what had
happened the new Cardinal and the new Bishop couldn't
help but dream of all the money the kids were bringing in.
It would be such a coupe if the church could get their
hands on that shrine.
They got together over drinks in the Cardinal's office. The
pair of them drank heavily, mostly to get rid of the nagging
that was always there in the back of their minds about the
murder they had earlier plotted. Fate had taken a very
strange turn of events, and for the last couple months they
were in their glory, what with the new appointments to their
new positions. Plus, there had been no acts that terrorized
them and they were just beginning to think their lives and
positions were safe.
Plot as they might they were unable to come up with an
idea on how to take over the shrine. The more they drank
the more brave and daring they became.
"What would happen if we kidnapped a couple of those
kids? Would we then be in a position to negotiate with
'their captors' and put ourselves in a favorable position
with the kids. Would we then have influence over them,
enough to begin operating the shrine?" asked the Bishop.
"That's a terrific idea. I never thought about that. Would
the lady know what's happening? Would she come back
into the picture?" asked the Cardinal.
"I don't know. There has been no sign of her, even at the
shrine, as far as I know, for over three months now. That
whole thing must have been some kind of apparition or
something. Things have been fine since you and I took
office. There has been nothing to worry about." responded
the Bishop.
"Well, I'm none too sure. Whatever that was she sure had
power, and she brought friends. We must be very
careful." said the Cardinal as he poured each of them
another drink.
The evening moved along and they became drunk. They
talked up this new plan, bolstering their courage here
and there with whiskey. By midnight they were no longer
coherent. They moved to the Cardinal's quarters, clumsily,
and both fell asleep without even changing their clothes.
The following morning they both washed and shaved,
re-dressed, and went to their respective offices.
All in all it took three nights drinking before they finally
decided to put their plan into action.
"I have a man that works around the church. I know he has
friends that are not very nice fellows. They would do anything
for money. They're drinkers and need all the money they can
get for their habits." said the Bishop.
"How much do you think it will cost?" asked the Cardinal.
"I don't know. Maybe I should offer them a couple hundred
US dollars each." the Bishop replied.
"That's an awful lot of money!"
"Yes. But it will most certainly get the job done. I think we
want two young ladies and two young boys. We can bring
them back here to the church and keep them locked up in
separate rooms in the second basement level. No one will
know they are there. We can feed them and we can do what
we want with them without anyone knowing. I think that is
cheap, when I come to think of it." said the Bishop.
"Okay, set it up. Then, when they are safely here and out
of anyone's reach we'll write a note and one of us will walk
over to the shrine and show the kids. Then we can begin
negotiating on their behalf. Maybe we'll even ask for a
pretty handsome ransom, too. Ever think of that?" asked
the Cardinal.
"Wow! That's a good idea. We'll get our hands on some of
that money at least." the Bishop began to get excited.
They drank another night away. The following day the
Bishop put the plan into motion.
