Does Switzerland have a military?
Many people assume that since Switzerland remains
neutral in war, it has no military. Nothing could be further
from the truth. In fact, Switzerland is one of the few
countries with universal military conscription for all
men between the ages of twenty and fifty. This means
that when a Swiss male reaches twenty years of age,
he must undergo fifteen weeks of military training. Over
the next few decades, he is required to accrue many
more hours of training. Swiss men who live outside the
country are exempt from military service, but must pay
two percent of their income as a military exemption tax
(as must any man unfit for military service). Switzerland
is actually a very well defended nation. It has developed
extensive mobilization plans and is prepared for invasion.
Should an attack occur, the country is ready to destroy
every bridge, tunnel, and pass leading into Switzerland.
Swiss per capita military spending is higher than that
of most other European nations.
Is it true that there's "a rifle in every Swiss home"?
Sort of. Switzerland is the only country in the world
where military personnel take their weapons home
when not on duty (and since every young adult male
is part of the military, that's a lot of guns). It is often
said that every home in Switzerland is armed. It is
certainly the case that during World War II, Hitler's
advisors warned him that the Swiss were armed
and would defend their homes.

Were You Sincere In The First Place?

Smith goes to see his supervisor in the front office. "Boss,"
he says, "we're doing some heavy house-cleaning at home
tomorrow, and my wife needs me to help with the attic and the
garage, moving and hauling stuff."
"We're short-handed, Smith," the boss replies. "I can't give
you the day off."
"Thanks, boss," says Smith, "I knew I could count on you!"
It seems the guy in the joke had an agenda other than
what he was telling his wife.
I wonder how many of us do this, because we want more
computer time, or because we think what we are doing
is more important than what a loved one asks us to do.
Are you guilty of this in any part of your life?
The lessons I have learned as life went on are that there
is no life where there isn't something to do you don't want
to do. There is no job that doesn't have some aspects that
are undesirable and there are thousands of people with
whom you will not see eye to eye, so to speak.
These are the things that make us grow. It is in the
overcoming of the lethargy within us that makes us grow
and expand to new frontiers.
If you have an agenda different than what you publicly
state you are only fooling yourself and it is yourself who
will pay the price.
Integrity calls you to be who you say you are. Practice
that to achieve great results. No hidden agendas.
Shoot straight and let others know the truth. Peace and
power are the result.
Don't go looking for excuses, or reasons to postpone
or put off a task that needs doing. I make it a practice
to do those things first. That way the stuff I don't want to
do is already done and the rest of the day is a treat.
Soon, however, more of that stuff will come your way.
Good. Get it done immediately. Procrastination can
play havoc with you life. Getting things done can send
you rewards you were not expecting. like raises,
promotions, sales.
As with all of life the choices are yours but ask yourself . . .

There was no difference in the incidence of antepartum
haemorrhage/operative deliveries, postpartum haemorrhage,
low birthweight, intrauterine growth retardation and
neonatal outcome.
CONCLUSIONS: The study confirms that iron deficiency
anaemia is the most common cause of anaemia in
pregnancy and is a major health problem in developing
and developed countries. Preziosi P, Prual A,
Galan P, Daouda H, Boureima H, Hercberg S. Effect of
iron supplementation on the iron status of pregnant
women: consequences for newborns.
Comment in: Am J Clin Nutr AU: 1997 Nov; 66(5): 1178.
We studied the effect of iron supplementation on the
iron status of mothers and on biochemical iron status
and clinical and anthropometric measures in their infants.
The subjects were 197 pregnant women selected
at 28 wk +/- 21 d of gestation at a mother-and-child health
center in Niamey, Niger. Ninety-nine women received
100 mg elemental Fe/d throughout the remainder of their
pregnancies and 98 received placebo. The prevalence
of anemia and iron deficiency decreased markedly during
the last trimester of pregnancy in the iron-supplemented
group but remained constant in the placebo group. Three
months after delivery, the prevalence of anemia was
significantly higher in the placebo group. At delivery,
there were no differences between the two groups in
cord blood iron variables. Three months after delivery,
serum ferritin concentrations were significantly higher
in infants of women in the iron-supplemented group.
Mean length and Apgar scores were significantly higher
in infants with mothers in the iron group than in those
with mothers in the placebo group.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

He commissioned the man to kill the two he was arranging
to meet in the morning at ten o'clock, at this very door. If
the man were to hide in the bushes behind the church
he could see the men and learn to recognize them. He
was to watch them, get to know where they went, where
they hung out, who their friends were.
He, the Bishop, would summon him once more the day
before he was to look after his task.
With that all done the Bishop felt the plan was well under
way. He poured a drink and congratulated himself on
his thorough planning. Now, for sure, there would be no
one who knew what happened to the children.
The next things that had to happen would be to wait for a
couple days after the children were kidnapped, then have
the Cardinal write a ransom note in a rough unidentifiable
hand. The note should ask for a million dollars in exchange
for the release of the children.
The whole process should be strung out to take quite
some time because the real purpose was not to get the
kids back, but to ingratiate themselves to the kids at
the orphanage.
The plan called for the kids to be missing for at least two,
maybe three days. Then the Bishop would call on the
shrine, carrying the ransom note he would say was
delivered to the church. He would sit with the kids and
discuss it, and plan out the next move they would take.
Along the way he would always thrust in the value of being
a part of the church. During all these proceedings he would
continue this. He would have ample opportunity to keep up
the pressure on the kids. Many, and he hoped, enough,
would soon see the church as their strength and would
pressure every other of the non-believers.
That was the plan, anyway. He would see how it went. He
phoned the Cardinal to bring him up to date with events
so far. The Cardinal agreed with every step.
The following morning at exactly ten o'clock the Bishop
opened the small door at the back of the church. There,
were two men standing, waiting. They looked rough and
had that overall reddish appearance that accompanies the
countenance of every alcoholic.
"Good, I'm glad you're here." said the Bishop. He went on to
discuss with the two men about the need to kidnap four of
the kids from the shrine. It was a mission for God and the
church, and extremely important.
They discussed how the kids had set up a security patrol and
no one could get close to them. They also decided that the
best thing would be to take the kids who went to the bank
every day. There were always two of them, mostly a boy and
a girl, each time. To do that one day would give them at least
one pair of kids. Then maybe they could entice a couple out
into the street, thinking they would find out what happened to
the first two.
The men decided the plan would work. They decided they
would do it. Then the Bishop told them there would be a
hundred dollars each waiting for them when there were four
kids brought back. That raised the eyebrows of the men.
The Bishop sent them on their way, and he returned to his
office. There he phoned the Cardinal again and advised him
the plan was under way.
Quite by surprise, the Bishop did not have to wait long. It
seems the men had been following the kids who were
going to make the daily bank deposit. They had them
hooded and nearly unconscious before the kids knew
what had happened.
"And where is the money they were going to
deposit?" asked the Bishop.
"Sir, we don't know. It must have gotten lost in all the fuss
and confusion when we caught them." said the men.
"You two wait here for a minute, I'll be right back." ordered
the Bishop. He then took each of the two kids by the arms,
hard, and led them down the hall and down two flights of
stairs. He opened the heavy doors to the rooms and shoved
one of the kids, bound and hooded, into each room and
then closed and locked each door. He then went back up
stairs to speak to the men.
"Now, I suggest you lay low for this day. Tomorrow you
can go in the front of the shrine and signal two more of the
kids to follow you. The first opportunity you get tell them
you have someone out front who knows where they are.
That should get them to follow you. When there you can
capture them too. Then bring them here. When I have four,
you will be paid your money." said the Bishop.

I am an accountant. One time during the children's
message in the church service, my child was at the
front. He was already fairly famous for asking tough
questions. So when the Minister asked if the children
knew what a prophet was my son of course piped
up. "It's when you have more revenue than expenses"
he piped in his five year old voice. When the
congregation recovered from laughing, the sermonette
went on after the minister said "well we know what
his mother does." Gotta love the kid.
