At what time of year is the Earth nearest to the sun?
You'd think it would be in the summer, when the sun
certainly FEELS closer. But the Earth is actually
nearer the sun in January than it is in June or July -
by three million miles. So what causes the seasons,
then? The Earth tilts on an axis and the planet also
spins as it orbits, sort of like a spinning top. Each
pole points to some imaginary spot off in space
even though it is circling the sun. Because of this,
when the Earth orbits the sun, the north and south
poles slowly change their relationship to the sun,
determining how many hours each hemisphere
receives sunlight. It's spring in your hemisphere
when because of the Earth's tilt, your hemisphere is
LEANING nearest to the sun and daylight is longest.
Is it true that nearly two dozen people drowned in
molasses in the Great Molasses Flood of 1919?
It sounds like something somebody made up, but it's
actually true. On January 15, 1919 in Boston, 21 people,
a dozen horses, and a cat met sudden and untimely
ends in a gooey flood of hot molasses traveling about
35 miles per hour. Of course, the explosion of molasses
was violent, and the molasses was hot, so the coroner
probably would not have ruled the deaths "drownings."

If your first impulse is to speak up when you see or feel
something is wrong in your workplace, zip it! Yes, just zip it!
Why? Most folks' initial responses are impulsive, emotional,
subjective and void of thought. But, you already knew that,
didn't you?
That old 'Count to ten' rule, isn't a bad idea at all. A
'Ninety-minute Rule' is an even better one. Why? Well, there
are two good reasons. First, you may not have all the facts or
the big picture. Taking a step back from the situation will
give you a better perspective and your perception may
change. Secondly, if the situation angered you, ninety
minutes will allow the blood to return to your brain's
centers of logic.
When anyone gets angry, blood rushes away from the
brain to the vital organs. This is nature's way of ensuring
survival. Unfortunately, when the blood leaves the brain,
your rational, logical thought also leaves. This is the worst
time to engage your mouth. Many folks have made the best
speech they will ever regret when they are the most angry.
Can you relate to that?
It takes most folks a full ninety minutes to recover from full-
blown anger. Why chance it? Even if you were just a little bit
angry, give yourself enough time to be able to form full
sentences that are coherent!
Obviously, there are times when you simply must take control of
a crisis. Knowing now why you may not be at your best at that
moment, speak only as much as damage control requires.
Refrain from being sarcastic, judgmental or rude. Simply do
as little as you can while managing the situation. Then, retreat.
The more you exercise control over your negative outbursts
and knee-jerk reactions to people or issues, the more you
present yourself as mature, controlled and in control of your
impulsive behaviors. Oh, yes, and, you'll spend far less time
making apologies, too.

About Blood After The Bowel Movement
PART 2 of 2
There are two kinds of hemorrhoids: internal ones near
the beginning INSIDE the anal canal, and external
haemorrhoids occur at the anal opening OUTSIDE.
Haemorrhoids may protrude from the inside to the
outside of the anus. Sometimes these would be in
clusters. They are very common, especially during
pregnancy and after childbirth. The incidence is 2
out of 1000 people.
What can you do right now? Drink lots of water and
eat high fibre foods: apricots, bananas oatmeal, check
a newer cookbook for lots of ideas. But water is step
one because if you have lots of water, you won't be
constipated... stool hard and formed and not very
"pliable" or flexible as it passes through the rectum.
What you describe is rectal bleeding after bowel
movements and bright red blood in the bowl and
on the paper. You didn't mention but this could also
have pain during bowel movements, anal itching.
The itching comes from the waste products coming
in contact with an open cut in the skin. If you went to
the doctor he would most likely do a rectal examination
to diagnose haemorrhoids. If it's not controlled by
drinking fluids and high-fiber foods, the doc might
suggest the use of stool bulking agents, such as
Metamucil which any pharmacist can help you find.
You have identified a problem which at the beginning
is very responsive to treatment. Keep an eye on it
and continue with the high fibre foods and water.
Those are the easiest and cheapest ways to deal
with what could become a long standing problem.
Don't let it…it becomes a nuisance, but don't dwell
on it. That is a most common problem. If that doesn't
seem like it fits your situation, then I would visit a
doctor. Yes, it's a bit embarrassing, but better now
and get it fixed, and eliminate the need for possible
surgery later on if the blood vessel gets enlarged
or inflamed or infected. For now, wash the area with
moistened toilet paper and a small amount of soap,
and rinse, after every bowel movement. The area
has a large blood supply, so it will heal quickly.... but
the same fact allows gets the vessel infected.
Jim, one last word of caution. We all know people
who had these symptoms, and over time, didn't do
anything about them. Eventually they turned into
a major problem. This could well be a minor irritation
right now, but if it persists, you MUST go to a doctor.
Bleeding anywhere in the body, over a prolonged
period of time with no obvious cause, could be
very serious. Please do not ignore this if the
symptoms don't go away after the about home
remedies.

to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

The room was empty.
The Bishop started to shake.
The Cardinal did not know what to make of it.
They went to the next room. It too was empty.
"I just put two kids in these rooms. They had their hands
tied behind their backs. Something is going on here. I
don't like it." said the Bishop.
"I don't know what is happening. I don't have reason
not to believe you, especially when I just saw you pay
those two men." replied the Cardinal.
Suddenly the whole basement lit up. Not like a man
made light was it lit up but like the sun. It was lit up in every
corner and crevice, and from everywhere.
The two men cowered.
Then Riata appeared in the air as if from heaven. "You seek
to harm these children. You have not yet learned your lesson.
You plan to kill those men who brought the kids here and
who stole their money. You plot to take over the orphanage
and the shrine because you want all that money. You continue
to be greedy fools representing God to the people of this city.
Great shall be your demise."
Every word she uttered shook the very foundations of the
building. It was a bone jarring speech that went into the hearts
of the two men with such force it drove them to their knees. They
whimpered and cried.
When she had finished she signaled for the children to come
out of the room where they were.
The kids came over to the Bishop and the Cardinal and gently,
tenderly, helped them to their feet. One of them spoke.
"You should not try to take over the shrine. It is doing just fine.
You know that what you practice is evil. Your very hearts are
evil and yet you still try to fool the people. You shall be revealed
for what you are. The church, too, shall be shown for what it is.
You have successfully destroyed any influence the Catholic
church has in this area. Every church for hundreds of miles
around shall be empty from now on."
The prophecy came with such quietness and simpleness out
of the mouth of a child that it stuck in the two men's minds as
if it had come from Riata.
The men were shaking and could hardly stand. The children
helped them up the stairs. They had to help them all the way
to the Bishop's office. Other church officials saw and objected
to the children manhandling, or so it seemed, the Bishop and
the Cardinal. They began to come to the rescue of the two men.
As they got close they were barricaded by an invisible shield
that surrounded the children.
The two men experienced fear so deep it rendered them
completely unable to do anything for themselves. The Cardinal
was unable to control his bowels.
The fear set up a chemical condition in their bodies that
weakened their very muscles and liquified everything in
their digestive tracts.
Such is the fear of some men when faced with forces
they know not nor can they comprehend.
Here, these two pillars of the church, were now completely
in the hands of those of whom they had commissioned capture.
Too, these were no ordinary kids. Not only were they helped
by Riata, but these were street kids who had learned self
government, and themselves were on the way to becoming
masters.
To these kids the fight did not mean harm or kill, it meant to
love. It did not matter what these men had commissioned,
or what was in their hearts, to the kids they knew the law
would take care of that. These men were to be pitied. Their
future was not one to be enjoyed and worse yet it was caused
by their own hand. Therefore the kids knew they needed help,
not punishment or meanness.
Once seated, the Bishop summoned up the energy to ask
"How did you escape?"
"Do you not know that those who know their Maker cannot
be held captive? Did not your Paul of the scriptures show
you that? Are you so far from God that you no longer
recognize him, or his truth? Are you that corrupt that you
believe only in the things of man and have lost sight of spirit.
Or is it that you never knew God your Maker? Is it perchance
you have all these long years been teaching the people of
this land a way of life that is designed to protect you, not them?
It is you who lives in plenty while many of them starve, yet you
still ask them for money? Is this your way of life?" answered
the oldest girl among the kids.
