Is it true that the holiday is about getting rid of empty
boxes after Christmas?
Not true! Despite the intriguing name, Boxing Day has
nothing to do with discarding boxes, returning gifts, or
hitting irritating holiday visitors. The holiday actually has
its origins in a long-ago British practice of giving Christmas
gifts to those NOT in one's social class the day AFTER
Christmas. Back then, you presented your equals with
their gifts on Christmas Day, but rewarded employees
or serfs or anyone below your status or "less fortunate"
with cash or gifts or tips or charity the day after. Those
less fortunate only received gifts. They were not expected
to give gifts back. The boxes were either the way the
gifts were presented (one theory) or a reference to the
church alms box.
How do people celebrate Boxing Day now?
Many people in countries that celebrate Boxing Day use
the holiday to visit extended family. You might, for instance,
celebrate Christmas on Christmas Day with your immediate
family, then visit in-laws or grandparents on Boxing Day.

Exhausted Or Exhilarated,
Which Do You Choose?

The answer to that question would seem to be obvious. If we
stop to look at behavior, though, it seems many folks prefer
exhaustion. They might say differently, but, behavior seldom
lies. There is no question that folks are busy beyond belief.
But, what are they busy about?
Tonight I was giving a teleseminar helping direct sales people
overcome reluctances and resistances to succeeding. I asked
tonight's class what it was that kept them from swimming for
shore. Their answers: fear of success, kids' needs,
procrastination, lack of organization and working on things
that don't really need doing. That last one reminded me of a
quote from that great philosopher, Anonymous, who said: "In
the absence of clear goals, we become strangely loyal to daily
acts of trivia." Are you caught in the trivia of your work or
your life?
It's similar to treading water, I think. You can get very
tired treading water all day. In fact, it can exhaust you.
The exhilaration replaces that exhaustion when you actually
swim and reach shore--when you get somewhere. The big
question is 'Which shore are you headed for?' and 'Why?'
Unless you know exactly where you want to end up and why that
is your choice, you may tread water for a long time. Some
folks do it for a lifetime. Goals are quite superficial
unless you are clear about your compelling reason for choosing
them.
Last June, I was speaking to a group of women in Dallas about
some similar things. I told them that treading water is
really getting ready to get ready to swim. They laughed.
Really, though, it's very common for us to spend our lives
'getting ready to get ready' to really do something. How many
folks threaten to write a book? How many threaten to run a
marathon? All too often these are empty threats.
Talking about doing something someday makes great
conversation. Each time you do it, though, my guess is that
you feel a little disappointed in yourself. I know I do. I
have to stop and ask myself, "If this is important to me, how
much time have I given it this week?" That's a sobering
thought! Surely, if it's important enough to tell folks about,
it must be on my calendar. Right?
That's why it is important to choose your destination--the
shore you will swim to--and keep it in sight until you arrive.
Give up treading water. Reaching the goal is exhilarating.
Treading water is endless...and exhausting. You choose!

So in a nutshell, try smaller, more frequent meals, adequate
fluids, especially water, and a good balance of protein rich
foods to carbohydrates. And if you can, have your protein
and carbohydrate meals separately. There's the balance
part again. So speed up digestion by eating these foods in
separate meals and have as few meals as possible that
include both, but have these small meals spaced throughout
the day, so the digestive process is not overwhelmed at
certain times. Someone suggested this as a good
experiment . . .
A glass of water upon arising (rehydration) // Have a high
quality meal replacement drink for breakfast // A few sips of
water 30 minutes later // A high quality meal replacement
drink, high in fibre for a snack // A few sips of water 30
minutes later //
A chicken Caesar salad or tuna salad or chef salad or egg
salad or bean salad or turkey salad or seafood salad for
lunch //. . . (that's the protein & veggies meal)//. A few sips
of water 30 minutes later // Perhaps Nuts & Raisins while
working at the computer for snack
A few sips of water 30 minutes later // And a rice salad,
pasta salad, or baked potato & salad, and yummy corn on
the cob or stirfry veggies for dinner . . . Anyway, you get the
idea of a starch & veggies for dinner . . . // Then, end the
evening with a few more sips of water before bed. // Try
something along those lines and see how you feel . . . If
you keep your blood sugar balanced throughout the day,
sip water during the day, all of that will help and your meals
will naturally become smaller.

The ladies returned to the living room with
the coffee and cookies. They passed them all out
and the conversation resumed. It didn't seem to
matter what they spoke on their talk always came
back to higher law. Darryl was now becoming more
interested and was once more asking questions.
"Darryl, we did not ask you here tonight to
speak on this subject. I don't want you going home
thinking we were salesmen trying to sell you on
the idea. Are you sure you want to continue
speaking on these things?" Sam did not want to
alienate Darryl.
"That's fine Sam. I realize it is I who is
asking the questions. Don't worry about it."
"Sweetheart, Alewka and Helen just told me of
how Jesu...
The room was suddenly filled with light, and
another person. Standing in the middle of the room
stood Jesus. "You called" He spoke quietly and
directly to Evelyn.
While everyone in the room knew it was Jesus
and were familiar with his presence at least once,
Darryl and Evelyn were not.
They felt the intense love Jesus broadcast and
each of them knew immediately who he was.
"You have had a rare opportunity this night to
hear words of wisdom you will get from no other
source. Wise is the one who hears. I came that you
might see I still live, and am alive and well.
Think not I am gone. I am closer than you think.
Neither am I an apparition." With that he reached
out and touched the arm of each of them, Darryl
and Evelyn, leaving the tell tale heart where he
touched them. Each of them felt that intense love
flow through them and this became an evening they
would remember for all time. "The words I taught
long ago have been corrupted and altered by the
present day church who like to provide
translations of my words in what they think is
modern day language. In doing so they have removed
from them my meaning that it might better fit into
their own teachings. Their teachings likewise have
been turned into a situation that gives them
control over you. Seek your own counsel. Seek your
Maker within you if you would live by truth. Learn
not from any man but from your Father only."
Jesus left as suddenly as he had appeared.
"Am I dreaming? Is all this happening to us?"
Darryl was in a state of bewilderment.
"Did Jesus touch you Darryl?" Sam knew what
the answer was.
Darryl looked at his arm and there was a
heart, permanently placed on his arm.
"Yes. Look!" He held out his arm.
"You mean that heart you have on your arm?"
"Yes."
"Is it like this?" Sam rolled up his sleeve.
In fact everyone in the room rolled up their
sleeves. The hearts on each were immediately
visible.
"How come I didn't see those before?"
"Because you were not yet eligible to see
them. Only those on the path have them or can see
them. Not all on the path are so fortunate, but
you have had the privilege of seeing him."
"Darryl" Jim White broke in, "I was here one
night visiting when Jesus appeared. It was that
night that changed my life and led me away from
the ministry. It was then I knew I was not on the
right path. I wanted to do what Jesus taught, so
when I said as much to my board of elders, they
fired me. It was a while before I learned higher
law, but I was determined because I believed in
Jesus."
"I can tell you Darryl and Evelyn, that scared
me a lot. I had no idea where our next meal was
going to be coming from. I had no idea there was
such hipocrasy in the church. I know we had been
accused of it but I could not see it, until we
took a stand. Then we were ostracized completely.
I don't think I have even spoken with any of the
church women since." Hilda White was revealing her
feelings and fears she had around that time.
"All these things happened to us as we sought
to learn higher law. In our case the trip was not
easy, but we learned that it was because of our
thinking. It was only at the wedding we were given
the real chance to learn and we have not looked
back since." Darryl had continued where Hilda left
off.
"Mr. Sparks. I can say almost the same thing.
If it had not been for Tim and Tom I would still
be in a foster home where the only reason they had
me there was because of the money it brought in. I
most certainly would have chosen a life of crime
had Tim and Tom not come along. As it was I was
far too well known by the police in this city,
maybe even you."
"You're right Billy. There were a few times
when I saw your name come up." Darryl was
referring to his work at the newspaper. "I always
kept your name out of the paper. Too often that
promotes further criminal activity. I'm happy that
you have learned higher law."
