Is bullfighting illegal in the US?
No, it's legal. But unlike in other countries, US matadors
are not permitted to hurt or kill the bull.
Why do we call some china "bone china"?
"Bone china" is aptly named, because powdered animal
bone is mixed with the clay to give it translucency and
whiteness.

Is Honesty Always the Best Policy Online? Marketers Disagree
By Gavin OíMalley
Tuesday, November 09, 2004
Using message boards, blogs, and consumers themselves
to market through word-of-mouth on the Internet is effective
for now--but not for much longer, unless the industry
becomes more transparent, warned Dave Balter of
BzzAgent at Ad:Tech on Monday.
"Word of mouth right now is pretty much an honest
industry, but if we keep corrupting it with deceptive and
misleading campaigns, word of mouth will become as
hated as spam, and all its authenticity and potential for
growth and innovation will disappear," Balter said, on the
"Word of Mouth Marketing Management and Measurement"
panel. The panel was moderated by JanMarie Zwiren,
strategic consultant at the Eleman Catalyst Group, and
the other panelists included John King, vice president of
business development at Procter & Gamble's Tremor
division; Pete Snyder, founder and CEO of New Media
Strategies; and Justin Kirby, CEO of viral marketer DMC.
While Balter advocated for transparency, other panel
members insisted that some degree of deception could
be useful. For instance, said DMC's Kirby, the campaign
for the movie "The Blair Witch Project" depended on
duping Web surfers. "That's one hugely successful
marketing campaign, Blair Witch, which would never have
worked if they had upheld any degree of
transparency," said Kirby.
In the summer of 1999, Haxan Films and Artisan
Entertainment released an enigmatic--and basically
misleading--Web campaign previewing a
pseudo-documentary by three student filmmakers who
supposedly disappeared into the woods near Burkittesville,
Maryland, while searching for the fabled Blair Witch. The
film has grossed well over $100 million.
While Kirby and Balter disagreed about exactly where the
industry should draw the line, everyone present granted that
the stakes were high, and that the alienation of consumers
was a recipe for disaster. "We cannot trick them," remarked
Procter & Gamble's John King, adding: "We cannot
deceive them."
Potential illegitimacy was not the only matter raised, which
threatens the potential growth of word of mouth. A seeming
rush to conclusions and principles by many in an industry
so young appeared to disturb the panelists. "Marketers have
to remember that not every product can be marketed like
an iPod," said Kirby. "The danger is to say that there's only
one way to proceed with word of mouth, and we all have
to do it one way."
Another risk is that, as the industry attempts to co-opt a
special group of consumers known as "influentials," or
plugged-in trendsetters, they risk upsetting parents and
children's rights activists who perceive marketers to be
taking advantage of children's vulnerabilities. "We no
longer see popular kids, advocates for our brands, as
trend setters, but as trend spreaders," said John King, who
defended industry methods by pointing out that his
company, Tremor, sends explanatory "welcome kits" to
budding young "influencials," and will regularly
communicate with entire families.
"We have to keep producing results, profits, and creative
innovation," said New Media Strategies' Pete Snyder.
"Word of mouth is going to grow and evolve."

To Be Vaccinated Or
Not To Be Vaccinated ...
PART 8 of 13
These "mobile clinics" are meant for people who are
healthy: not people with health problems or those
considered "high risk". Those individuals PLUS their
extended families should go to their family physician.
(This routine differs a little from country to country . . . and
the requirements change from year to year.) If you suspect
you are pregnant or are in the early phases of pregnancy,
discuss this with your doctor. Remember the first trimester
of the pregnancy is the crucial one for the fetus development.
(If you are breast-feeding. Again discuss this with your
family physician, but it should be OK.) If you have any
questions or concerns, please contact your doctor. They
know you best and know all the other health challenges
as well. I am trying to create awareness and get you to
think seriously about something you may not be completely
aware of. Who should NOT get vaccinated? Anyone who
is very allergic to eggs or eggs products. This vaccine is
made with the fluids of chicken embryos that have been
infected with the current year's virus. And a preservative,
Thimerosal, usually found in contact lens solution, is
added. So if you are allergic to this solution, then you
shouldn't take the vaccine. Also some products may contain
formaldehyde as a preservative. These would be specific
questions asked at the time of vaccination. Another
possible reason not to be vaccinated will be an allergy
to Neomycin. Neomycin is used to reduce the likelihood
of bacterial contamination, which is always a possibility.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"So, you were able to get a long way toward
meeting your Maker that time."
Hemno got the message hard and fast. He knew
exactly what was meant. There was no point in
trying to go back into meditation again, at least
for a while. He had to wait until things once more
settled down.
Painfully trying to get up he finally stood.
The heat of the day was on him and he was
perspiring just because he was there. His efforts
helped that a bit, especially his pain which would
have cause him to sweat at 40 below zero (-40C).
He hobbled around for a bit to get the
circulation going in his system. Sitting all day
would do no one any good. It was nearly an hour
before he wanted to sit once more.
Hemno again leaned up against his tree. He
stilled his body and again began his meditations.
Always the head wanted to "talk". He found himself
talking about this and talking about that. He had
to mount determination to stop the talking. He,
inside, looked at things, heard things. He refused
to talk. He just wanted to look. His visions were
of the herds. He saw himself walking among them.
Then his old nemesis came back. The sexual thing.
It occupies his mind and he went with it not
realizing he was. It felt good and he followed.
The "voice" called "Hemno"
Then he realized what was happening. Mentally
he kicked himself. He once more came back to
"seeing things". Then his talking began again.
"How come things go that way. I hardly knew I was
going there and then I was in the middle of it.
How does that happen?"
The voice said "Because of your ego. You must
discipline your mind to do as you say or as you
control. You will see things like having all the
things you want, like people all clambering around
you calling you great, like sexual things, power
trip things, control things. These are things of
the ego. You must give up your life if you would
live. These things must go. You cannot live by ego
and by your Maker's higher laws. You must choose.
It is one way or the other. There is no middle
ground. Man's way or your Maker's way."
Hemno was beginning to think that was hard,
when the "voice" came back. "It is not hard, just
different. You are not used to it that's all. When
you practice it you shall see it becomes easier
and easier. Then, when you arrive, you will never
want to go back."
That all made sense to Hemno. But this sex
thing, it was a grabber. It was as if his body had
a mind of it's own and would control him. He liked
the feelings that went along with that dream, but
he knew also he had dedicated himself to living by
higher law. He had made up his mind he would not
hunt, kill, or search for water. He must reach his
objective before he died. While he was only weak
now, he well knew things could get far worse. This
was serious.
Hemno then went into meditation again, with a
determination this time to control his thoughts.
Disciplined thinking was the mark of a Master and
he would be a Master. That was his goal.
Sure enough here came the image of Sonora,
sexually. This time Hemno saw past that. He had no
speaking going on in his head. Then there was the
people crowding around him. He saw past that. Then
there was nothing. Where was he?
Slowly he began to "know" he was a part of the
universe. He "felt" a part of everything around
him. He "saw" himself no different than the tree
he was leaning on or the animals in the herd in
front of him. He "knew" he was part of the
universe.
In his mind he wanted to ask questions, but
how do you do that without talking? He learned to
"think" the question without words and he noticed
something. He wasn't even able to finish his
question before the answer came. They did not come
in words. He just "knew". His answers were firm
and fast, faster than light. Thought is like that,
faster than anything measurable in earth.
He liked this "space". Here he found he was
free of men's things. It was as if he had crossed
a barrier where he now was not bothered by the
things of ego. Here he was emotionless yet filled
with love, peace and knowledge.
He asked, or rather thought, "Are the laws
true? Can I manifest anything I want?"
He knew he could.
"Can I do this right now?"
He knew he could.
Then the voice came "All men can right now"
That is not what Hemno wanted.
"It is like the love you have for a partner.
If you have doubts then don't get married. If you
have no doubts, then go ahead." The voice was
tutoring him.
Then it happened. In his mind he came to a
place of light, a place of knowledge, a place of
enlightenment. HE KNEW.
Hemno was bathed in light and love. He had
never felt anything like it. He had met his Maker
and found his center. Hemno KNEW that from then on
he could do anything he wished. Suddenly sex was
not so important to him, popularity was no longer
important. The only thing that was important in
his life was his Maker... nothing else.

HA! HA! HA!
I began thinking about my own mortality after I became
a widow. One day my daughter called home from college,
and I announced to her, "I think it's time for us to talk about
where I would like to be buried."
"It's way too soon to even think of anything like that," she
snapped indignantly. Then there was a brief silence.
"Wait a minute, did you say married or buried?"
When I repeated buried, she said, "Oh, okay, sure."
