TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

When was a holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
first proposed?
How long before the holiday was made official by the
Federal government?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What are "crow's feet"?
The fine wrinkles that appear near the corner and under
the eye area are called "crow's feet." We get wrinkles around
our eyes before other places on our face for several reasons.
The skin around the eyes is thinner and lacks oil glands. The
area around the eyes is also affected by smiling and squinting
and other movements.
How old was Martin Luther King Jr. when he was assassinated?
The civil rights leader was just 39 when his life was cut short.
But he managed to accomplish a remarkable amount in the
time he had: winning a Nobel Peace Prize, writing several
books, completing a PhD in systematic theology, and leading
the nation in its civil rights struggle.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!
In the early 1900's, a telephone man used to ride around with
a telephone strapped to his back and chest and would make
house calls.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Here's To Think On ...
-----------------
Decisions Today We Regret Tomorrow
An old lady sits on her front porch, rocking away the last
days of her long life, when all of a sudden, a fairy godmother
appears and informs her that she will be granted three wishes.
''Well, now,'' says the old lady, ''I guess I would like to be
really rich.''
*** POOF *** Her rocking chair turns to solid gold.
''And, gee, I guess I wouldn't mind being a young, beautiful
princess.''
*** POOF *** She turns into a beautiful young woman.
''Your third wish?'' asks the fairy godmother. Just then the old
woman's cat wanders across the porch in front of them.
''Ooh - can you change him into a handsome prince?'' she asks.
*** POOF ***
There before her stands a young man more handsome than
anyone could possibly imagine. She stares at him, smitten. With
a smile that makes her knees weak, he saunters across the
porch and whispers in her ear, ''Bet you're sorry you had
me neutered.''
Boy! Some decisions come back to haunt us don't they?
I'm not advocating you make no decisions at all. I saying
only that sometimes we don't look far enough into the future,
or take all potential conditions into account when we make
some decisions.
I don't think many of us are going to have a fairy godmother
turn up and change our lives for us, so you don't have to
take that into account, but sometimes we make decisions
today which, ten years from now we regret.
When one is a kid not many decisions have a prolonged or
damaging affect on our lives. When we become adults
decisions can prove to be catastrophic. For example, the
decision to leave a loaded firearm in the house someplace.
That decision is one that has too many chances of leading
to regrets. Or, for that matter, having any firearm without a
trigger lock on it while inside a building.
In the above examples, chances are nothing will happen,
but let me tell you if something does happen it will have a
major affect on you life.
So think through all decisions, but be aware of the serious
impact some decisions might have. If you can,
avoid making ...

Reclaiming Your Power.
A Powerful De-Stressor!
PART 1 of 5
Last evening, I went for a drive with my son to look at
Christmas lights. To get to our destination, we had to go
through traffic in the main city and then the highway. In
each area I wondered who this strange driver of my car was.
The person I had left home with had turned into a chameleon!
The personality I left home with was fun and respectful and
caring... here was a hostile, speeding... and dare I say... idiot.
But none of it was his fault...everyone made him do these
crazy acts. And all because of a few drivers who were not as
careful or safety conscious as my son... or so he wanted to
believe. And all this happened without any mood altering
products! I was quite amazed at how he allowed these people
to control him. AND THEY HAD NO IDEA THEY HAD THIS
POWER OVER HIM! Pure heart attack fodder!!!
One of the very best "de-stressors" is reclaiming your "power".
Spend some time quietly by yourself. You might end up in
a corner of the local coffee shop or in your car in a park.
Or you might do what some busy executives do... plan:
actually create an appointment with yourself for this quiet time,
and then go to the local library. You want to go somewhere
where you can be alone and think and write. A walk is fine,
but it's awkward to write out your ideas as they come to
your mind. This process is all about capturing ideas in
YOUR mind.
So you need a place where interruptions are not going to
happen. Get yourself out of your normal space. When you
are settled in, reflect on things that have created inner turmoil
for you in the past. Was it the dog or your spouse or your
children? Or was it someone at work or someone totally
unknown as in my son's case... What argument caused
you to feel really negative? Or ready to give up?
The idea is to create a new "you" that allows for those
unexpected moments or minutes of stress, without it affecting
you in a major and unhealthy way. This "new" you will provide
you with instant knowledge and tested actions to prevent
giving your power away. Most of us allow "outside/external"
things to drive our behaviors and actions. We feel they are
not within our control. But they are! You can control your
reactions for the jerk that cuts you off with his giant "off the road"
vehicle in the local parking lot
or the gal who snitches your
parking spot just as you are backing into it. Would it be the
long delays at the checkout counter be causing you heartburn?
Or the spouse who gets very depressed at Christmas and
is unable to help with preparations. Or the smaller than
expected cheque.
If you spend some time reflecting on your reactions and
come up with new and more helpful behaviors, it makes
such a difference in your attitude. It gives you a feeling of
being in control.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Such is the way of man. It is the same old
story. Man is always down on what he is not up on.
When he fails he looks for reasons outside himself
for that failure so he will not have to admit to
himself or others that he had any part in it.
Man, to others must always look good,
acceptable, honorable. Unto himself he can and
will lie. To others he must put on the appearance
of integrity where there is none, honor where he
fails, acceptability where if the public really
knew what had happened they would leave him.
Only in this way can man continue to live in
man's world where he once tried to leave it. There
are many who, even in man's world, will not accept
responsibility for who and what they are. There
are those who always blame others or "something"
for why they did not accomplish something or for
their present condition. They will flatly refuse
to understand, accept, or believe in the reality
of the law "As ye sow, so shall ye reap." They
will argue forever on the idea that does not mean
them or that it does not cover the thoughts one
puts into ones head.
Unfortunately this is the path that was
beginning to open up to Sharon Smithson. While Tim
could have changed it he knew the law forbid it.
He had to let her go.
He quietly and politely took her home. Each
knew this was the end of it. Sharon said good bye,
turned and ran into the house crying. She spoke
with no one and went straight to her room. It was
over.
Tim turned to walk home. He was sad. Sharon
was a nice girl and he liked her. He would have
liked the relationship to continue, and would call
Sharon, but he would give her a couple days to
calm down. Her frustrations were concerning
her the most right now.
Knowing he would call her gave him no
solace. He was still sad. He knew that if she got
to church and started talking she would become the
center of attention and once that occurred she
would go with it. Nonetheless he could do nothing
to prevent that. He could, but he wouldn't.
So he walked home. It was a pleasant evening,
still early. He walked through the downtown area.
The city had been working hard these last few
months and downtown was now cleaned up. There was
even new construction going on.
The City of Pinehill had met with the
merchants and they had all agreed that while the
interior of the buildings would be new and they
would have all the new facilities of the modern
age, they would all build so the fronts of the
buildings were just like they were before the
disaster. That way Pinehill could hold and keep
it's "quaint" look. The merchants support was
unanimous and enthusiastic. That "quaint" look is
what brought shoppers to Pinehill.
Tim was now on the sidewalk next to the
Pinehill Sound. "Hello Tim. How are you tonight?"
Darryl Sparks had been working late. Seeing
Tim saunter up the sidewalk caused Darryl to step
out of his shop and say hello.
"I'm fine Mr. Sparks. How are you tonight?
Working late?"
"I'm fine Tim and yes, I am working late.
Every week we have a deadline night. Tonight is
the night. I'm just putting the final touches to
some ads and then it goes to press. What are you
up to?"
"Oh, I'm just walking home after dropping off
Sharon Smithson. We had a date tonight."
"Well" said Darryl looking at his watch, "When
I was a young man my dates lasted a lot later than
this." He smiled that knowing little smirk.
"I know Mr. Sparks, but you had a reputation
to maintain." Tim laughed and laughed. He had
caught Darryl on that one. Darryl laughed right
along with him.
"What are you two up to?" The Pinehill Police
Chief Russel Burke had come up to them and was
watching the pair of them laughing.
"Tim here just caught me in my own trap,
Russel. How are you tonight?"
"I'm fine Darryl. Am I too late to get this
advertisement into the paper. We just decided this
late in the day and I couldn't get it over to you.
I hope I'm not too late."
Darryl took the paper Russel handed him. It
was only a text ad, no fancy graphics, so Darryl
agreed to print it in this upcoming issue.
"Thanks Darryl. I appreciate it. You two take
care now." With that Russel was away.
"Well Tim, I best get back to my work. Say hi
to your folks for me. I'll see you later."
"Good night Mr. Sparks. I hope all goes well
with you."
Tim carried on walking toward home. He was now
glad to have met with Mr. Sparks. The touch of
jocularity was refreshing to his mood.

HA! HA! HA!
When my brother-in-law was on leave from national service,
he brought home a heavily tattooed friend. We all sat down
to Sunday lunch, and my four-year-old nephew couldn't take
his eyes off the man's colorful arms.
Curiosity finally got the better off him. Politely, he asked the
visitor, "Didn't your mother give you paper to write on?"
