Why do bruises change color?
Do kids bruise more easily than adults?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -

What was Martin Luther King Jr.'s name when he was born?
A little-known fact: Martin Luther King Jr. was born MICHAEL
Luther King Jr. He was later renamed Martin. The civil rights
champion was the son of schoolteacher Alberta King and
Baptist minister Michael Luther King.
Why exactly is a bruise?
A bruise (also called a contusion) happens when blood
vessels are damaged as the result of a blow to the skin.
Bruises can be flat and bluish or purplish (caused by blood
leaking out into the top layers of skin) or raised (blood leaks
into tissues as well).

Rejuvenate & Re-Fuel Your Inner Drive
by Amy Ewart
I believe that as solo-entrepreneurs, business owners,
and executives we all need a pat on the back. Give
yourself commendation. Why? Because we have the courage
to step outside of the corporate box and start our own
businesses, be our own boss and take on the challenge
and responsibilities required for this adventure. In
order to even contemplate that step we must have had a
vision, a dream and a passion to bring it to fruition.
So commend yourself.
Now, we?re in business. We?ve been working our little
brains out. We are dedicated to making our dream come
true. But some time has passed and we may have
exhausted ourselves of ideas, that passion that once
used to drive us is fading and our never ending ?to do
list? is overshadowing our dreams.
Do not be discouraged, we only need to refuel. Picture
the never ending stair master at the gym. I know we all
dread that machine, because it seems like you just keep
climbing and there is no landing. But each step is a
further progression. Each step brings us to a higher
level. Perhaps by reading these strategies we can
replenish our passion and reinvigorate our inner drive.
So let?s focus on a few ideas that I have found to be
helpful.
1) Narrow Your Niche
I know that as a woman, mother, wife, housekeeper, and
a chef, solo-entrepreneur and so on, I tend to think
that I can handle it all. Maybe not with grace, but I
can accomplish a lot. I am a multi-tasker. We assume
that if we can do so in our personal lives, the same
should be true in our professional lives. No doubt, we
can manage a lot. And as solo-entrepreneurs there are a
lot of hats to wear. Business owners are in
advertising, marketing, accounting, and so on. But when
it comes to the services we offer we should consider
narrowing our niche?.
We may be more proficient in a particular area of our
practice. By honing in on our skills in that area, we
are creating a competitive edge, an area of expertise.
You can position yourself as a leader in your own
industry. Opposed to fitting in with a thousand of
professionals offering the same service, we are now
exposed to clientele as specializing in a certain
skill. We can also appeal more specifically to a
target market?.
2) Partnerships and Alliances
Wouldn?t you agree that we all need support? We need
confirmation that we are heading in the right
direction, a resource for assistance, or an honest
opinion when we need advice. That?s why it is essential
to group ourselves together with a variety of
individuals who are enlisted within a similar
profession. It also increases our professional
appearance to clients when we can refer them to an
associate of ours who specializes in a particular area
of expertise. (Hence the importance of ?narrowing your
niche?). There are many associations and links
available to aid us in our endeavors. So make the
connections needed and integrate yourself with a
partner or an alliance and unite together with a
support system. (E.g. become more involved with the
community at www.solo-e.com/community/ where
you will connect with individuals who are coming
together to help you present yourself with the
resources you need).
3) Maintaining Passion
The word passion is described as: ?enthusiasm,
excitement, desire for a particular activity, or
devotion to a cause?. How do we maintain that
enthusiastic approach? Focus on your core message. This
is the innermost substance of your business. Maybe our
business is a consulting firm. Why not focus on and
think about how you are empowering other others to
accomplish all that is needed of them by assisting them
with your services and/or your products.
Try focusing on the message that you are communicating
to others and try to incorporate that in your everyday
duties. For instance, the core message of my company is
growth. Not only personal growth, but business growth
and helping other businesses grow, expand, and develop.
I try to allow clients to see the quality of my concern
and I enjoy the opportunity I have to help them. When
they become more productive and increase profits, I
benefit too! My motto is ?If you grow ? I grow!?
Another way to maintain your passion is to find
similarities in your personal values and your business.
All of us have a certain moral code. We all have things
that are of particular importance to us and if we
harmonize that connection between our work ethic and
our personal ethics we will be passionate about what we
do. Most of us appreciate sincerity from our family,
friends and associates; by reflecting the same
sincerity to others we are highlighting its importance
to us. Having synchronization with our personal and
business values will bring about passion, thus helping
us to enjoy the entrepreneurial experience.
From my business to yours, I wish you much success and
delight in your journey.

Reclaiming Your Power.
A Powerful De-Stressor!
PART 3 of 5
On another personal note, my son is writing some heavy
duty exams, but the exams are set by academics who have
never done what his work involves. He had a terrible time
dealing with his frustration and anger at this situation. However,
once he realized that he could use the information from an
academic point of view for another purpose, he stopped
fighting himself and got on with the job of studying. His
transformation from a victim and a powerless individual to
being in control was dramatic to say the least! ... And
reassuring for us. I don't think it matters what the situation
is that causes you to react negatively or in a possible
harmful way. It's now a matter of awareness and making
a choice... to accept the situation as "unchangeable" or
to find ways to change YOURSELF to meet the next
challenge in a more helpful way. You don't even need
to worry about the other person nor to teach them a lesson.
The lesson is for you to learn and gain power from and
be prepared with. The lessons to learn are that you don't
ever have to be without power and you have the opportunity
to make a choice (and practice) in how you react. So the
most helpful thing to do is to book time with yourself and
prepare... Start to take charge. This may be difficult for
some to do. It was for me, so when I suggest this to others
is speak from long and well learned experience. People
want to tell me they have no control. But I make suggestions
as to how they have some, and raise their awareness
with examples.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
The call came early in the morning. Sam Henry
and Billy Hendricks rose in response.
Rubbing his eyes Billy opened them and looked
at the clock. It was three o'clock in the morning.
He dressed and went downstairs. Sam was there
waiting.
Without a word between them, they looked at
one another and knew they had to leave. In that
same instant they landed in a dry, hot area at
about three o'clock in the afternoon. This was
India.
As they walked along the road little dust
clouds rose with every footstep. Their clothing
was obviously North American so they stood out
against the traditional cotton clothing worn by
the indigents.
This was a bit of a touchy case they were on
this day. The location was up near the
Pakistani/India border in Kashmir. There was civil
unrest in the area, each country, or rather each
religion, Moslem and Hindu, were claiming the area
as their own. The stupidity of it was obvious to
someone uninvolved. No one owned the land and even
if one side won they would still not own the land.
So, one might say, they were fighting for the use
of the land. Not so. They are fighting because
they wanted to fight. That they had been fighting
for many years only made it appear right to the
combatants.
The entire idea of a fight between these
groups was nothing short of stupid, on both sides.
It was now a condition of "he hit me back first"
and no more. None could see that when you deliver
hatred you get hatred back. And, worse yet, it
escalates like wildfire. The ridiculous thing
about it is each will take time out of the
fighting to go worship their God. When that is
over they will once more pick up the rifle. That
process happens several times a day.
It is abundantly clear that neither the
combatants from the Moslem side nor the combatants
from the Hindu side are God fearing or serious
about their religion but instead using it as an
excuse. In any religionGod does not advocate
killing.
Yet one thing that is advocated and these
sides are blind to the truth if it means they
should lay down their weapons, is the law "As ye
sow, so shall ye reap."
This contentious situation has gone on now for
years and the more they kill one another the more
they want to kill one another. This situation
today was no different, except it now involved a
peacemaker who was trying to bring an end to the
hostilities.
The man was a medical doctor on the Hindu
side. He had long had a reputation for helping all
comers, Hindu and Moslem alike. He was a man of
modest surroundings. He preferred instead to treat
the sick and injured for the sake of helping
rather than for the sake of money. He was of good
heart, and was known to be so. He saw no
difference in the people he aided. To him a Moslem
looked the same as the Hindu. Each had the same
concerns, the same needs and spoke the same words.
When they tried to bring him into conversation
over the conflict he would not participate,
advising instead that the participant go and
spread love, not hatred. He would say this to all
his patients, regardless of their religion.
Today, however, his daughter was caught up in
a situation that was deadly. He had sent her into
Pakistan to get some goods from a man there who
had offered them. She had gone straight there and
was now on her way back with the goods. As she
walked up a hill in the road and began walking
down on the other side, with her home in sight,
there suddenly was gunfire across the road, in
front of her and in back of her.
The gunmen did not see her at first, and when
they did not all recognized her. She fell to the
road and began screaming for help. She was
terrified.
That scream was heard half way around the
world, in Pinehill. That is what brought Sam and
Billy here.
They were now closing in on the battle zone.
Gunfire was clearly heard from both sides and it
seemed as if it were never ending. They well knew
the riflemen were not aiming and firing, but
instead, keeping their own heads down, holding up
their rifles and firing, hoping that they would
hit someone on the other side of the road. Those
on the other side of the road were doing the same
thing. So far no one had been hit except the
doctor's daughter.

Mr. Jacobson decided to take a week off from the pressures
of the office and went skiing. Alas, no sooner did he
reach the slopes than he heard an ominous rumbling:
moments later a sheet of snow came crashing toward him.
Fortunately, Mr. Jacobson was able to jump into a cave
just before the avalanche hit. Just as fortunately, he
had matches with him and was able to light a fire.
Hours later, when everyone but Mr. Jacobson had returned,
a rescue team was sent to search for him. After several
hours they saw smoke curling from the cave and went to
investigate.
Poking his head into the entrance, one of the rescuers
yelled, "Mr. Jacobson, are you there? It's the Red
Cross."
Bristling, the harried executive called back, "I already
gave at the office!"
