thePEBBLE - 11/06/05 - Believe, Affirm, Believe!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
A typical, obviously American, community. Two young people
given an opportunity for an a adventure with an attainable
financial reward. Their adventure into the inkonwn, not
restrained by dogmatic rules or community restraints, leads
them to resources that change no only the two adventurers'
attitudes, but attitudes of others.
The reader will either come away with a a feeling of
wonderment or question the writer's declared source, his
Maker, for the content.
I was not envious of the characters' adventures but enjoyed
the book as it refreshed the wonderment I had as a youth and
now as a practical adult, to "think outside the box" about
powers that are within us.

It took me back to my youth and now inspires me to "think

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How did the custom of flying flags at half-mast originate?
The custom of flying flags at half-mast to mourn the death
of a leader or other important person originated on ships.
It was the custom on ships to honor the death of a person by
loosening the rigging so it appeared in disarray. Ships no
longer use slacked rigging to indicate mourning, but the
custom of flying flags at half-mast continues on both land
and sea.
Does the brain feel pain?
No. The brain is actually insensitive to pain. Many people
assume that headaches come directly from the brain, but
headache pain most often originates in the muscles, nerves,
and tissues outside the skull.

Here's To Think On ...

Believe, Affirm, Believe!
As life, together, progressed through over forty years my
wife and I have had our good times, our prosperous times,
our broke times and our bad times. I guess that's life.
We have not always been on the same wave length spiritually
but we have been on a certain level of agreement on some
spiritual issues.
For example, during a particularly worrying financial time
my wife found and decided to practice some affirmations. We
mutually decided we would read them aloud in the morning
when we rose, and at night just before going to sleep.
That reading strengthened our belief that our Maker wants to
provide for us. We read them ritually for a couple years.
The level of belief now is such that regardless whether we
like our bills or not, we KNOW that somewhere, somehow the
funds will appear to pay them.
As we progress through life now it becomes an interesting
exercise just trying to see where the next batch of funding
will come from.
I encourage you, today, to think about the truth of these
statements. Think about reading affirmations aloud in your
daily life.
Where can one find affirmations? Write down on paper what
you want. Go looking in your religious literature for any
statements that will support what you want. Look around for
self improvement books, they are usually filled with
positive and truthful statements supporting your desires.
Or, you can write a positive statement or statements about
what you want. Usually you would do all of the above, so in
reading your affirmations there are enough that it takes you
anywhere between 15 and 25 minutes to complete them.
Read these in the morning and then again in the evening. It
is important they be read aloud. It is even better if you
have a mate with whom to share this task.

Flu shots
Its that time of year again, although this year
we dont seem to be hearing much about flu shots. I wonder
if that has anything to do with last years confusion and
challenges of finding vaccine.
Most likely, you will be confronted with the flu vaccination
choice again. Do you get a shot this year? Or will you not?
It's quite the dilemma. In view of what happened last year
and what may or may not be happening this year, I thought I
would update this article on flu vaccinations. The basic
information remains true, but your situation may have
changed since I first wrote this article in 2002. At the end
of this information, I will share some of the controversy
that makes this years season a little different.
In my many mobile clinics I get asked virtually the same
questions and offer the same precautions. Please pay
attention to the precautions. They could save your life if
you are forewarned.
I thought I would share some of the less familiar details,
and the questions we get asked routinely in a clinic. I
travel to, and set up my supplies, in car dealerships, large
corporate office buildings, tiny one or two employee
workplaces, school lunchrooms, pharmacies, large department
stores, box warehouses, etc. I give vaccinations to people
who work in these places and those who shop there. I am
prepared to travel anywhere, so I get to see some very
interesting out of the way places!
The flu virus can make many, many people very ill. And it
has the potential of creating epidemics. It's easy to pass
this troublemaker from one person to another (mode of
transmission). If you breathe, you take a chance of
breathing in a flu virus.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
It had been months since Sam and Alewka had seen or
heard from Tim and Sharon. As they were sitting there in
conversation, Sam began to wonder just how the young couple
were making out.
"Just fine, Dad." came the thoughts back to Sam as he
pondered on them.
Tim and Sharon had not really had much time to be
newlyweds. They had been called away to seven or eight
different opportunities to help someone in difficulty.
They had literally been around the world, several times.
Yet they were together and working like this caused them to
feel purposeful, useful.
In between such calls for help they had time to resume
their honeymoon.
Presently they were at home in Pinehill. As Tim's Dad's
thoughts made themselves known unto him he began to think of
joining his folks.
"Say, honey, how about going over to China to see Mom
and Dad?"
"China? What are they doing there?"
"They went over to the orphanage Riata is running over
there to be with Tom and Tlang. We haven't seen them since
the wedding and that might be a neat thing to do. Shall we?"
"I can't think of anything in our way. Let's."
With that notion accepted mutually the pair travelled to
the orphanage in China, appearing right in front of Sam and
Alewka.
"Hello, everybody! I hope you can stand another couple
of visitors."
All the folks sitting in the circle, talking, rose to
welcome the newcomers.
"Well, what is married life like, you two?" Riata had a
gleam in her eye as she asked the question.
"I see we have someone wanting to tease us, Sharon.
Should we go along with it or should we get her now?" Both
Tim and Sharon looked at Riata, who cowered in mock fear.
They all laughed at the game.
Tom and Tlang were sitting together, next to Sam. As Tim
looked at Tlang he thought she was a very beautiful lady. He
looked at his brother, Tom, and it was clear Tom was a
smitten man.
"Tom, come up for air bro. It's time to leave the ladies
and go have a brotherly talk." Tim had a smile in his eyes
as he was speaking.
"Oh! Oh! Tom, look out. He's going to have a man to man
talk with you. He's the old married man now and going to
give you some advice." Riata was right on top of her game
today and she threw another smirk at Tim.
Riata and Tim were good and long time friends. Indeed
Riata had eyes for Tim before Sharon became the center of
his attention. She would do nothing now, neither permit
anything between she and Tim that would in any way spoil his
relationship with Sharon, but she would tease him.
Sharon, for her part, now living by higher law, was able
to zoom into the minds and hearts of each of them and came
away feeling confident these games would likely go on for
years, but they were no threat to her marriage. She kind of
liked the idea her man was a "wanted" man. She felt very
fortunate for having met and married Tim Henry. Nothing that
has happened since the wedding has threatened that, indeed
it has only confirmed her childhood decision that she would
marry that man, was the right decision. Actually, she was
smitten with Tim long before she learned higher law. Yet Tim
would not give in to the ways of the world. If Sharon wanted
a permanent relationship with him she found she had to learn
higher law. That was a hard task for her, but Tim helped.
Now, here they were in China at an orphanage in the
middle of nowhere, where a mutual friend had decided she
would take a vacant piece of land and make it available to
children who were without parents. Little did these children
know this life was likely better for them than if they did
have parents. There was certainly no lack of love here. The
children were given more love here than they could get in
any worldly home. They were also given knowledge here they
would be unable to attain in any worldly home.
It really boiled down to all things are good if you take
the time to make them so. Everything that happens in life
contains within it seeds of good things and those who search
those out will always come up the better for the experience.
Man must learn that nothing happens by coincidence, that all
things occur for man's benefit. His job is to take the
benefit, the lesson and move on looking for more
experiences.
The orphans at this facility were certainly well
schooled in that thought and all were settled in to what
they felt was their home. They felt loved, respected and
strong.
There was more teasing going on, back and forth. Tom
finally looked at Tim and said "Okay bro, let's go."
He looked at Tlang and winked. She smiled at the man she
was in love with and let him go.
Sharon moved into the spot vacated by Tom. Tlang and
Sharon had spent no time together. Now they would work on
their relationship.
What with living by higher law there was an immediate
and everlasting bond between the two. Just as Sharon had
felt that "communication" from Sam, Alewka, the rest of the
family and all she met who lived by higher law, she, too,
now, felt a kinship with Tlang. The feeling was mutual.
Tlang was there too.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Easy As Pie: What is the reason we say os a task thats easy
to perform "that's as easy as pie"?
Because the full expression is, "as easy as eating pie" -
and eating pie is generally considered to be a pleasant
occupation that entails no trouble at all.

HA! HA! HA!
One dark night outside a small town in Minnesota, a fire
started inside the local chemical plant, and in a blink of
an eye it exploded into massive flames.
The alarm went out to all the fire departments for miles
around.
When the volunteer fire fighters appeared on the scene, the
chemical company president rushed to the fire chief and
said, "All of our secret formulas are in the vault in the
center of the plant. They must be saved. I will give
$50,000 to the fire department that brings them out intact."
But the roaring flames held the firefighters off.
Soon more fire departments had to be called in as the
situation became desperate. As more firemen arrived, the
president shouted out that the offer was now $100,000 to the
fire department who could bring out the company's secret
files. Still no takers.
From the distance, a lone siren was heard as another fire
truck came into sight. It was the nearby rural township
volunteer fire company composed mainly of Norwegians over
the age of 65. They had fled Europe after WW2, and
established their own town.
To everyone's amazement, the little run-down fire engine,
operated by these old Norwegians, passed all the newer sleek
engines parked outside the plant .... and drove straight
into the middle of the inferno!
Outside, the other firemen watched as the Norwegian
old-timers jumped off and began to fight the fire with a
performance and effort never seen before. Within a short
time, the Norsemen had extinguished the fire and saved the
secret formulas.
The grateful chemical company president joyfully announced
that for such a superhuman feat he was upping the reward to
$200,000, and walked over to personally thank each of the
brave, though elderly, Norse firefighters.
The local TV news reporters rushed in after capturing the
event on film and asked, "What are you going to do with all
that money?"
"Vell," said Olee Larsen, the 70-year-old fire chief, "Da
furst ting vee doo is fix da brakes on dat truck!"
