What mammal has the largest brain?
The sperm whale's brain, which can weigh as much as 20
pounds, is the biggest. The blue whale has a larger body
size, but its brain is about five pounds lighter. An adult
human brain weighs approximately three pounds (the largest
was a little over five pounds).
What organ did the Greek philosopher Aristotle believe was
the seat of mental process?
Aristotle thought the heart was the seat of mental process.
He wasn't alone. The ancient Egyptians also thought the
heart highly significant and thought little of the brain.

Apple
MacTel strategy includes Windows and Linux
Here's some new ammunition for those who think Apple's move
to Intel processors is about building computers that can run
both Mac and Windows applications.
Apple's U.S. patent application 0050246554 ("System and
method for creating tamper-resistant code") describes
scenarios in which the user would choose a "first operating
system" and a "second operating system" from a set that
includes Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, and Linux.
There's also mention of a virtual machine, and the option to
choose between "Macintosh computer" and "Windows PC."
I realize that patent applications try to anticipate every
possibility, but this is a very plausible strategy for
Apple's Intel machines: embrace and extend what its
competitors' computers can do.
When Windows Vista ships, Microsoft will encourage users to
upgrade. Many home computers will be unable to meet Vista's
minimum system requirements. (For example, Vista will need a
dedicated video card, not just "integrated video," but many
current PCs do not even have an AGP slot.)
Apple has more than a year to come up with a competitively
priced computer capable of running both Mac and Windows
applications. It could run both systems at once, or -- as
the patent seems to suggest -- run one system natively and
the other in a virtual machine. (Users could choose which OS
should be the dominant or "first" operating system.)
Michael Dell should be concerned. So should HP, Gateway,
Lenovo/IBM, and every other Windows PC maker. Apple controls
OS X, and does not license it to others. Therefore, only
Apple can build a personal computer capable of running
Windows and Mac OS X.
Microsoft's OEM partners could ask Microsoft not to license
Windows to Apple, or to offer them better license terms, but
would Microsoft go for it? I suspect the company's consent
agreement with the DoJ would make this difficult if not
impossible to do.
Very interesting. Stay tuned...

To Be Vaccinated Or Not To Be Vaccinated
Do Some Serious Deliberation Before
You Offer Your Arm
PART 2 of 15
Just think about your own environment or picture an office
of several people. Someone coughs and doesn't know they have
this virus because they have no symptoms yet. (The virus is
just growing (incubating) into a number that will eventually
cause the person to have symptoms.) So this person coughs
and the virus is part of the moisture that is sent out by
the force of the cough. These particles land on something: a
desk, a counter, a bag. Or if you unfortunate enough to be
passing close to the person, they can land on you or be part
of the air you are breathing in at that moment. As you
inhale, the virus floats into your respiratory system.
If you are healthy, chances are the virus will be met with
resistance from one of your body's strong defense
mechanisms, its immune system. However, if this immune
system is not very healthy or taxed by chronic health
problems, or other challenges, you won't have enough support
to counteract the virus. Thus it finds a friendly
environment and starts it growth or incubation period. This
can take from one to four days. In the meantime, you, not
realizing you are carrying this germ, breathe in and out,
cough occasionally, and spread the virus to others. The
person(s) closest to you inhale, and the whole scenario
repeats itself, many times over.
I already mentioned that these viruses (with no wings or
legs to propel themselves) can be carried on droplets. But
they can also be dropped onto a surface, dried out and then
be carries along on air currents. Effectively that means you
don't have to be in the immediate area when the droplet is
exhaled. You could come along a few hours later, raise some
dust with your body movement, and inhale. And the cycle
starts all over. Through this, can you see the benefit of
having proper functioning ventilation and maybe filters?
That's prevention.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

"So, bro, fallen in love have you?"
"Oh, Tim, I can hardly stand it. I don't know what has
happened to me but this woman has me so enchanted I can
hardly keep my hands off her. What is worse, she doesn't
want me to."
"I know. Sharon and I went through that. So did, by the
way, Eloise and Mazunta. That's what happens Tom, when you
fall in love. Sis and Maz decided to hold off going all the
way before marriage and Sharon and I did, too. It was hard
to do but we are sure glad we did. That's why I wanted to go
with you for a walk. I wanted to share these ideas with you.
Sometimes it helps to know others have gone through the same
thing."
"It does Tim, Thanks. I had no idea these feelings could
be so powerful. Some nights they drive me crazy."
"Yeah, I know, and when you get together with no one
around and you both are feeling that way who puts a stop to
it and why? Have a talk with Tlang and let her know what is
going on and what results you want. She will come to
understand, even if she doesn't like it."
"We have already spoken on the matter. She agrees with
me but doesn't want to. She understands the value of
refraining from sex now."
"Good, because Sharon is going to be talking with her to
let her know it happens to all of us. It will help her out
too."
The two men were walking on the road toward town.
Without them even realizing they had walked the whole
distance and were actually through town and on their way out
the other side. Tom opened his eyes and blinked. "My
goodness do you know how far we've walked?"
"Yes, Tom. I realize, but do you?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean you must get control of these emotions you are
feeling. Here we are having walked all this distance and
just now you realize where you are? You can have these heavy
emotional feelings for Tlang when you are together, but you
better get control of who and what you are. You know the
discipline it took to reach higher law. That meant there was
no emotion involved. Are you not backsliding a little, just
because it is a feeling you like? Get a grip man. You're an
adult. Act like one. There is a time and a place for those
emotions and all day everyday is neither."
Tom, in that instant reviewed what he was doing and had
been doing for the last year. He saw his boyish behavior,
tripping all over Tlang. He wasn't pleased with the picture.
He knew better but he didn't act it. Also, in that instant,
he made the decision to act like a Henry man, like his Dad
and his brother. He stood tall, stretched his shoulders,
took a deep breath and shook his body as if he were shaking
off all the boyish behavior.
"That will be the end of that. I wasn't paying attention
to what I was doing. Those emotions were so strong they
captured me entirely and I let them run away with who and
what I was. I've got control now. That won't happen again.
Thanks for talking with me Tim. I needed that."
"You're welcome. Maz came and talked to me, too. That
helped me get through that period of my life. Believe me you
will be the happier for it. Incidentally, so will Tlang.
Boy, bro, you sure pick them. She is one pretty lady."
"Yeah, I know. She's got me all tied up in knots. She
has me enslaved to her. I love her with every cell in my
body and every thought I have."
"That much is obvious to everyone. You can still love
her that much without making a fool of yourself. It's been a
year now. It should be waning a little anyway."
"Maybe we should be turning around and walking back
toward the orphanage." Tom stopped walking and turned
around.
In truth it really didn't matter where they walked. They
could each return to the orphanage in an instant from
wherever they were. Yet turning around was at least
symbolic.
They began to walk back. They had a mile to go before
they got to the town and then they had two miles to go after
that.
"So, Tim, you and Sharon planning on having a family
soon?"
"I think that is what Sharon is telling Mom and Dad
right now. She's expecting. I think the baby will be due in
six months. We're pretty happy about it."
"Congratulations, brother. Way to go. What took you so
long?" Tom laughed.
"We just wanted to be together all by ourselves for a
while. I like the idea of family, so does Sharon, but we
wanted to be by ourselves for a little while anyway."
"Well, that's wonderful news. Congratulations again. Are
you planning on setting up a home anywhere?"
"We've been thinking on that Tom. We like being in the
village where Sis and Maz are. We even like Pinehill, but it
comes with such a heavy price, as far as the kids are
concerned. That's why we like where Sis and Maz are, and
David and Pam, too, for that matter. They have all
recognized the value of raising their children there."
"Did you know all the kids have learned higher law?"
"You mean Sis's kids?"
"And Dave and Pam's kids, all of them."
"Wow! That's fantastic. How do you know?"
"Dad and Maz were through here last week with every kid
in the village. Every one of them took the step. It was
really something to see. They are all doing just fine and
Dad says they have learned well."
"Man, isn't that terrific? Wow! Sharon and I will have
to stop in to see Sis. Here we are. Anything more you want
to say or ask before we go back?"
"No, Tim, thanks. I needed that."

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Farce: How did the word "farce" come to mean "comedy"?
"Farce" comes from the Latin farcire, meaning "to stuff."
The early miracle plays were padded or stuffed with jokes
and low comedy scenes - and so this type of comedy came to
be called a "farce."

WOMEN'S STUDIES
"HE did it!"
BUSINESS
Both decide that they're spending way too much money
together, and that it's simply cheaper to be single.
HISTORY
Each party argues the breakup was caused by something the
other party did in the past.
GEOGRAPHY
Both people decide to simply move far away to avoid each
other.
ANATOMY
"I never liked your body anyway."
