thePEBBLE - 11/09/05 - A Dream With A Time Limit
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
A typical, obviously American, community. Two young people
given an opportunity for an a adventure with an attainable
financial reward. Their adventure into the inkonwn, not
restrained by dogmatic rules or community restraints, leads
them to resources that change no only the two adventurers'
attitudes, but attitudes of others.
The reader will either come away with a a feeling of
wonderment or question the writer's declared source, his
Maker, for the content.
I was not envious of the characters' adventures but enjoyed
the book as it refreshed the wonderment I had as a youth and
now as a practical adult, to "think outside the box" about
powers that are within us.
Jerry Harlton
Jerry Harlton was an executive assistant to the Right
Honourable Joe Clark, the former Prime Minister of Canada
It took me back to my youth and now inspires me to "think
outside the box".

What is nirvana?
Nirvana is a state of bliss to which Buddhists aspire. In
Sanskrit, it literally means "going out," like the going out
of a light. Buddhists often describe it as a state of being
devoid of desire and want.
What does the word "Islam" mean?
In Arabic, "Islam" means "surrender." A Muslim, who
practices Islam, is "one who surrenders to God."

A Dream With A Time Limit
"A goal is nothing more than a dream with a time limit,"
says Joe L. Griffith. Great idea! Does having a deadline
improve your work habits? Many folks get so much more done
when they are clear about when it has to be completed. Why
not do this with the things you want most in life?
When you set the bar, you know you can move it. The trick,
then, is to make the commitments you make to yourself as
important. or, even, more important. than the ones you make
to others. For some, that's a revolutionary idea!
Do you put yourself off? Do you put yourself 'on hold'
indefinitely? Many folks do. This is where the rubber hits
the road in good ol' American slang. This is where you have
to 'fish or cut bait'. This is where you have to decide that
you are worth your time, energy and resources. I was raised
by Depression Era parents. Their experience taught them to
take every measure to ensure financial security. By example
and osmosis, this was passed along to me. To a degree, their
approach makes sense, however, it was a difficult change to
make when I wanted to invest in myself. To take my money and
invest it in me and my business rather than accumulate it in
savings and investments took a lot of courage and
self-confidence. I still have to sit myself down and give
myself a good talking to some days!
Money makes money. You make money. What you do with that
money determines your success. Life is filled with
opportunities. Of course, you have to pay your bills but it
is very good advice to pay yourself first. Put some money in
a place where it will make money smartly first, then, pay
the bills. This will help you realize your dreams. Unless,
of course, your dream is to scrounge, scrape and scurry
through life with difficulty. Then, forget the last
paragraph.
Put a time limit on your goals. Give yourself something to
work towards. You will achieve your dreams once you know
what they are, what you're going to do to accomplish them,
AND by when you will complete the task. Self-confidence will
increase in direct proportion to the attention you give to
your commitments to yourself. What a terrific by-product!

To Be Vaccinated Or Not To Be Vaccinated
Do Some Serious Deliberation Before
You Offer Your Arm
PART 4 of 15
In the categorization of flu strains, Influenza A virus, the
strongest/most virulent, is seen as being responsible for
widespread pandemics (worldwide) and epidemics (regional).
If the virus changes itself, you find yourself unprotected
and susceptible to infection despite prior immunity.
Influenza B virus is also responsible for a significant
amount of the flu-related illnesses, although it is less
likely to cause death. The B category virus tends to cause
more localized outbreaks of flu with fewer complications.
Each years influenza vaccine contains three virus strains
(usually two type A's and one type B) representing the
influenza viruses that are most likely to circulate in the
coming winter.
A common misconception is that you will have immunity
immediately. That isn't the case. Your body has to develop
this, and it takes time. Usually within two weeks after
vaccination, the bodys immune system produces antibodies
against the virus strains, which make up the vaccine.
Immunity does not occur prior to that time. Nor will it give
you any support if you are exposed to a strain that is not
one of these in the vaccine.
I recall one "flu season" where people complained to having
had flu shot and then getting the flu. The vaccine does not
contain a live virus that could be infectious; therefore,
"it cannot cause the flu." If you are ill afterwards it will
be the result of coincidental illnesses or because you were
already incubating a virus. Research is showing that the
vaccination may also stimulate the production of
T-lymphocytes, which help you recover more quickly, if you
are exposed to an infection before your full immunity is in
place.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The night grew late. All were tired. The party was over.
The fire shut down around two o'clock in the morning and
everyone went to bed.
The day broke cloudy and wet. It was not cold but the
rain made things cool. It would not last long for there was
already clear skies in the northwest.
Breakfast was handled in two shifts at the orphanage and
when the first shift was done, they served the second shift,
then cleaned up. The shifts were changed weekly.
Sam and the family, including Tlang, were given special
status. They were served in the first shift and were not
allowed to participate in affairs of the second shift.
After breakfast they stepped outside the roofed area and
stretched. The rain had stopped by then and the sun would be
out within 30 minutes.
"You know, I think this might be a nice day to go visit
Sien." Sam was speaking with the whole family.
All agreed that would be a good idea.
Sam received a message, "I'll be here awaiting your
arrival." It was from Sien.
"Tlang, dear, would you be kind enough to go tell Riata,
Amenti and the others we will be on our way, and that we'll
return within a couple days?"
Tlang loved to be asked and away she went. Upon her
return, they all left together almost as if they were a
flock of geese leaving a staging area on their flight back
south from the breeding grounds in the far north. There was
not the racket the geese set up, of course, but they all
left together in much the same way.
They all touched down on the road south of the huge rock
escarpment that stretched for miles, east and west. The rock
face had to be 150 feet tall, with the road having to veer
off and mount it in a series of short turn switch-backs.
The view was both magnificent and foreboding. The early
pioneers in this land must certainly have been determined if
they were going to transverse this huge precipice. It went
straight up, offering very little in the way of hand grips
or other means of climbing. Additionally, to get a road
going up that cliff was a monumental task. It had been only
a walking trail until the army, en-mass, came and blew it
wider, that vehicles might negotiate it.
Sam knew where the entrance was to the monastery that
was buried inside. Even during all the construction of the
road, there was no one who found the monastery. Of course
the inhabitants may have had something to do with that. Even
today the entrance is seen only by those who qualify to
visit, who are themselves living by higher law. To do
otherwise in this day and age would only cause the monastery
to be commercialized and function as a tourist site.
The day was warm here. There had been no rain and the
land was blessed with the growing season, with grasses and
flowers blooming.
Sam led the way. Slowly they walked toward the
entranceway. There were no other users of the roadway at
the moment so he felt comfortable doing that. Nonetheless,
knowing the need to keep the monastery out of sight, Sam
made sure his group of people were rendered invisible to
mankind.
The group consisted of Sam, Alewka, Maz, Eloise, Tim,
Sharon, Tom and Tlang, eight in all.
As they approached the lower entrance Sien stepped out
and came to greet them. "Welcome to where I stay. It is our
good pleasure, mine especially, that all of you decided to
come. Each of you is special to me and to us at the
monastery. Your work and your reputation precedes you. All
present know who you are and what work you do. Welcome."
That was a bit of a shock to Tom and Tlang, who had
spent nearly the last year so wrapped up in one another they
had not been called to help anywhere.
"Don't worry, you two. Your time will come. The time of
young love is so important in one's life we prefer to let it
happen without interruption. So, too, for those bearing
child. Congratulations, Sharon, Tim. We are all happy for
you beginning this important task. And to Maz and Eloise. I
see you caused the children of the village to cross over the
veil of simplicity. That is good. Your children are not with
you. Is that because they are now entirely able to do as
they wish?"
"Yes, Sien. This is a very long way from you meeting a
scared little teenager in a jungle far away, isn't it?"
"It is that, my dear. You have done well for yourself
and others. Much has started with you as the center-point.
Come, let us enter upon my humble abode. If you have never
been into a facility, any facility, carved out of and into
rock before I think you might enjoy the sparseness of it."
Sien turned to walk in front of the group. As with Mae
and Susan years before, this group entered upon a very large
room. It was semi dark, offering only light enough to
negotiate where they were going. The room was the color of
rock and no trappings had been placed here.
"This room we use for gatherings when there are serious
things to discuss. It sits vacant mostly because it is rare
we must gather for events so serious. If you follow me I
will show you up the stairs into the next, the second of
five levels."
Sien approached a stairway that was again hidden from
view. The entranceway was opposite to the way everyone
looked, and placed well into a corner that was dark. It was
situated in such a way that even if you were able to stumble
upon this room from the outside and you had flashlights you
would likely not see this stairwell, unless you ran your
hands around every inch of wall within the room.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Gandy Dancers: What is the reason the men who pump a
railroad handcar are called "gandy dancers"?
The men who pump a railroad handcar are usually four in
number and they stand in positions similar to the two
couples of a square dance. Their deep knee-bending as they
work the car suggests such a dance performed by geese - or
more exactly, "ganders".

HA! HA! HA!
It was Saturday morning as Jake, an avid hunter, woke up
raring to go bag the first deer of the season. He walks down
to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee, and to his surprise
he finds his wife, Alice, sitting there, fully dressed in
camouflage.
Jake asks her, "What are you up to?"
Alice smiles, "I'm going hunting with you!"
Jake, though he had many reservations about this,
reluctantly decides to take her along.
Three hours later they arrive at a game preserve just
outside of San Marcos,Texas.
Jake sets his lovely wife safely up in the tree stand and
tells her, "If you see a deer, take careful aim on it and
I'll come running back as soon as I hear the shot."
Jake walks away with a smile on his face knowing that Alice
couldn't bag an elephant -- much less a deer. Not 10 minutes
pass when he is startled as he hears an array of gunshots.
Quickly, Jake starts running back. As Jake gets closer to
her stand, he hears Alice screaming, "Get away from my
deer!"
Confused and frightened Jake races faster towards his
screaming wife. And again he hears her yell, "Get away from
my deer now!" followed by another volley of gunfire!
Now within sight of where he had left his wife, Jake is
surprised to see a Texas cowboy, with his hands high in the
air.
The cowboy, obviously distraught, says, "Okay, lady! You can
have your deer! Just let me get my saddle off it!"
