ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What about the second most published playwright?
Neil Simon. It's sort of hard to believe (at least for this
writer) that Simon follows Shakespeare in terms of published
works, but he does. Simon has produced more than 16 plays,
including some that you've probably heard of, such as "The
Odd Couple" and "Brighton Beach Memoirs." Sixteen plays
doesn't sound like a lot, but Simon has done a few other
things as well. He's written 18 books and 12 screenplays.
How many words is Shakespeare responsible for coining?
This is a tricky one. On the one hand, Shakespeare is given
credit by scholars for introducing as many as 10,000 words
and phrases into written language, including "skim milk,"
"alligator," and "hobnob." But it's not at all certain that
he made this many words up. Most were probably common terms
for his time and he merely was the first to put them in
written form in his plays and poems. Some scholars give him
credit for thousands, but others say he actually coined only
a few hundred.

Burger King Subserves New Ad Medium: Video iPod
by Shankar Gupta
JUST WEEKS AFTER APPLE COMPUTER introduced its new
video iPod with a spate of commercial-less programming,
marketers have already figured out how to adapt it into an
ad medium. Fast food giant Burger King Thursday unveiled a
plan to sponsor a series of short comedy videos designed to
be downloaded for free and played on the new iPod. The deal
with broadband video download site Heavy.com is Madison
Avenue's highest profile foray into the new medium yet. Last
week, a group of users of print and online publishing
software maker Adobe Systems' Photoshop software launched
what might have been the first iPod infomercial, a half-hour
guided tour of Adobe's Photoshop dubbed "Photoshop TV."
The Burger King sponsorship entails a branded page for video
files specially encoded for video iPods. Some of the
downloadable videos hosted on the page are user-created
Halloween shorts that feature masks of infamous Burger King
spokescritters: the costumed "King" that appears in current
television spots, and the net-famous Subservient Chicken.
The first of the spots, which went live Thursday, features a
Heavy.com user driving up to a McDonald's drive-through
window dressed as the King, with a royal robe and the
plastic mask, and demanding a Whopper. Other user-created
spots will be hosted starting today.
To get the videos, Heavy.com sent out masks of the King and
the Subservient Chicken to a group of their especially
active users who submit content on a fairly regular basis.
"They [Burger King] came to us and said: 'We've got these
masks, can we do something with your users?'" Heavy.com
co-CEO Simon Assaad said: "We just sent about 20 masks out,
and people just started turning up at our front door with
videos."
Assaad said that in the future, Heavy.com hopes to
incorporate more user-created content into sponsorship
deals. "We're thinking we're going to do it every month if
we can--it was a great idea," he said. "We got a lot of
really good content out of it."

To Be Vaccinated Or Not To Be Vaccinated
Do Some Serious Deliberation Before
You Offer Your Arm
PART 6 of 15
Also, in those types of facilities, it is very difficult to
deal with a flu outbreak, PLUS all the other care to be
given. So routinely, most residents will receive a
vaccination. And if a flu outbreak occurs, the facility
shuts its doors to everyone except the absolute essential
workers. Nothing happens till this "event" is over. That
cycle of re-infection has to be broken.
SO it follows that THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CAPABLE OF
TRANSMITTING THE FLU VIRUS TO THOSE AT HIGH RISK SHOULD
RECEIVE ANNUAL VACCINATIONS! That is good "infection
CONTROL"! Who are considered high risk? Who should get flu
shots? Consider your parents or your children, if they have
compromised immune systems. (Do you see how it always seems
to come back to your original state of health? Can you see
the value of staying healthy?)
This high risk group includes adults and children with
chronic cardiac (heart) or pulmonary (lung) disorders. They
would include such conditions as bronchopulmonary dysplasia,
cystic fibrosis, and asthma. These are severe enough to
require regular medical follow-up or hospital care. It
includes people of any age who are residents of nursing
homes and other chronic care facilities. It includes adults
and children who are being treated for chronic conditions
such as diabetes or other metabolic diseases, cancer,
immunodeficiency, immunosuppression (i.e. transplant
recipients), renal disease, anemia and hemoglobinopathy.
Persons infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) are
also considered high risk.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Tom was holding her hand under the table and he felt
that love travel from her into him. Tlang's heart was being
cleansed of all limiting memory of her early childhood. Her
presence here required only the good shall prevail and the
bad or limiting memories or thoughts were not permitted
presence. She was being cleansed.
The entire Henry family was offered intense love. They
were loved because of having earned the right to be here as
Sien's guests. It was looked upon as a unique privilege.
The meal was eaten pretty much in silence, and there was
no ceremony upon completion. Some present came up to one or
more of the Henrys and asked questions, beginning
conversation. Most left, realizing there were too many for
them all to speak to the guests.
"Where do you put this many people up for the night?"
"Mr. Tom, there are two more floors above us filled with
small sleeping rooms. If there aren't enough we just bed
down in the larger rooms you have already been through. I do
hope you will stay the night. We have set aside rooms for
you. We made two rooms available for you, that means you
will have to sleep two couples per room. I do hope that is
all right."
"Sien, that is perfect. It will be wonderful to spend
the night here. I have noticed the silence here is absolute.
I have never been to any place where it has been so quiet.
The rock permits no outside noise at all."
"We preserve the silence as best possible. It is here
one can truly think. Here, where there is no noise, one can
be really alone with oneself. You will find that tonight as
you sleep. Not even the noise made by others will be
present. We have caused none to snore or make noise in their
sleep. It will be you and your Maker tonight, alone."
"You make that sound almost ominous."
"No, Tim. Yet there are many who appear to need noise
and light. They are almost afraid to be alone or without
noise and light. Here you and your Maker have a real chance
to communicate and this place is to be used for that. It is
there we gain our strength and our joy. Outside noise and
light are interruptions to our relationship with our Maker.
That is why meditation is important. It is in the closing of
the eyes and concentrating on your Maker inside that brings
results. All of you have experienced that, yet you have done
so in the presence of both noise and light. That makes it
more difficult. Here you shall have no interference at all.
That is why our predecessors built this place. Here the
silence is our friend."
"Darkness, too, I presume."
"Yes, Tim. the darkness, too. The human body is
engineered to respond to things like noise and light. It is
a help for our meditations when we have no other thing to
respond to but our Maker only."
"Now I understand how it is that you are able to be so
powerful. I shall cause such silence and darkness as I
experience here tonight to be a part of my meditations
wherever I am."
"Good. That should be one of the benefits of your visit
here. It is only when you are able to experience this
absolute silence and darkness that you are able to remember
it. Hopefully you will capture that and take it with you for
your future. It is a good thing."
Sien knew this night would be a wholly powerful night
for each of his guests. He knew their experience of the
silence would be dramatic. When one is not ready for such an
experience it can be traumatic. He knew his guests were
ready.
Some may think, when they go to bed at night, things are
silent. One is usually not conscious of the subtle noises a
house makes or a city makes, even nature makes. There are
places one can experience silence, like in the far north
when there is no wind blowing or aurora borealis flowing.
Yet no silence can be experienced such as being deep inside
a cave, the pyramids or this monastery. That is the powerful
silence.
As they were speaking of the subject, they all became
acutely aware of it.
"Sometimes the jungle will turn this quiet. It is
usually before an earthquake or other natural event. Even
the animals stop their activity."
"Yes, Mazunta, that is true. Yet when you think of it
even that is not so silent as this."
"That is true and it is fleeting, for it does not last.
I will enjoy this."
"We hope. Please come and I will show you your rooms.
The hour is near your usual sleep time. Tomorrow I will show
you the rest of the monastery and give each of you a time to
yourself, that you may meditate. I know you will do that
tonight, too, but around midday tomorrow I shall leave you
alone as well. Tonight, you will become used to the silence.
Tomorrow you will use it."
Sien received the words "Thank you, Sien." in his mind.
He offered an answer, "You are most welcome, Sam."
Then it happened again. "Tlang, you are a young woman
who has experienced much. You are blessed and that you have
offered your thanks means you shall experience special
blessings from here this night. You are welcome."
Others thanked Sien out loud.
They were ushered into their rooms and allowed to
prepare themselves for a nights sleep. Each caused the rock
underneath them to be just their comfort level.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Half-Seas Over: Why do we say an intoxicated person is
"half-seas over"?
It's a nautical phrase and originated with the thought that
a ship that is halfway across the sea will keep on going
rather than turn back. But the application of the expression
to an intoxicated person was strengthened by a pun - for the
English imported from Holland a strong beer which the Dutch
called op-zee-zober, meaning "oversea beer".

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"The minute you start talking about what you're going
to do if you lose, your have lost."
---- George Shultz
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
1. A good place to meet a man is at the dry cleaner. These
men usually have jobs and bathe.
2. All men hate to hear, "We need to talk about our
relationship." These seven words strike fear in the heart of
even General Schwarzkopf.
3. Men like phones with lots of buttons. It makes them feel
important.
4. Men like to barbecue. Men will cook if danger is
involved.
5. Most men hate to shop. That's why the men's department is
usually on the first floor of a department store, two inches
from the door.
6. Men forget everything; women remember everything. Think
about it! How many women's sports use something called an
"instant replay?"
7. Men are self-confident because they grow up identifying
with super-heroes. Women have bad self-images because they
grow up identifying with Barbie.
8. No man is charming all of the time. Even Cary Grant is on
record saying he wished he could be Cary Grant.
9. Women take clothing much more seriously than men. I've
never seen a man walk into a party and say, "Oh no, I'm so
embarrassed; I've got to get out of here. There's another
man wearing a black tuxedo."
10. Men have higher body temperatures than women. If your
heating goes out in winter, I recommend sleeping next to a
man. Men are like portable heaters that snore.
