How long can a person live without water?
Not too long. The average person can go as many as eleven
days without water. That's assuming a mean temperature of 60
degrees Fahrenheit. Let's just say that getting lost in the
desert without water would not be a good idea.

---------------------
Measuring Your Worth
It has been said that your worth can best be measured by the
benefits others have gained from your success. How do others
benefit from your gains?
An interesting exercise in self-awareness and self-esteem is
to list all the ways that you think others might benefit
from your existence. Be specific. The list will do two
things: it will help you realize the contribution you make
to the lives of others, whether you know the people or not;
and, it will help you to identify ways that you might like
to offer more.
Often we hear about the importance of making a contribution
in this world. Just as with communication, so it is with
contribution: You cannot not contribute. The question is
"What are you contributing?" Do you make someone's day
brighter with a smile or a card? Do you remember a birthday?
Acknowledge an accomplishment? Remember to ask about
someone's concerns? In this fast-paced, I-want-it-yesterday
world, it seems even more important to remember each other,
think about each other, care for each other.
Sometimes I think we are endangered by our technology. When
I am on Seattle streets, walking at a Vancouver Island pace,
I am sometimes chilled by the breeze of folks running by,
looking at their watches. The other day I was going to a
meeting in a large office building that houses many
telecommunications firms. I approached the information desk
in the lobby to inquire about the room for my meeting. The
security guard, a man who himself looked endangered, met my
request with an abrupt, "We do not have conference rooms.
Who are you, anyway?" I explained who I was and what the
meeting was and he told me it would not be in his building.
I persisted, he made some calls and discovered that there
was a conference room but that the meeting I wanted was not
listed for that room. I said I would go up and look for my
colleagues. He panicked...told me I could not do that. I
said that I wanted to attend my meeting...he, very angrily,
said he would take me there because he did not know who I
was or what I wanted.
On the way up in the elevator--a very long way up, as you
can imagine--I asked him if the building had a security
problem. Was this why I was being treated this way? He said
it was none of my business. We reached the room filled with
my colleagues and they explained to him how the room was
booked. That, too, angered him. As he left me, I wished him
a better day.
What an incredible level of stress for him to live with each
day. What an incredible degree of suspicion his job brought
forth in him! You know the old adage, "When all you have is
a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Well, he
personified it! For folks living with this degree of fear,
we can offer them understanding without letting them run us
over, can't we?
We have the opportunity of being the light in someone's day,
of adding to someone's pleasure or adding to his or her
pain. We can make things easy or difficult. We can
collaborate or compete. We can put our own needs above those
of other or we can help others get what they want first.
There are no rules, of course. It is important, however, to
be conscious of how our choices affect others, and, of how
others benefit from our existence. Even in tiny ways, we
make a difference.
Today, before you say or do anything, take a breath and ask
yourself, "Will this make the contribution I want to make to
this conversation, relationship, business deal, etc.?" If
the answer is yes, proceed with assurance. If the answer is
no, you'll have consciously given yourself the opportunity
to do it differently. Choose well.

To Be Vaccinated Or Not To Be Vaccinated
Do Some Serious Deliberation Before
You Offer Your Arm
PART 11 of 15
About your consent form: ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU DON'T
UNDERSTAND WHAT IS BEING SAID or what the words mean! Your
life could depend on it! Any health care professional will
assume that all adults will understand what is being done
unless they ask for clarification. Put your ego aside and
ask the nurse what you need to know. Be truthful about your
answers. You will not be hurting anyone else except yourself
if you arent totally upfront about possible reactions. I
had one very large clinic with multiple nurses, when
someone, for convenience sake, I think, didnt tell us about
a previous reaction. And all nurse had to help this
gentleman in distress to the detriment of the huge line
still waiting for their vaccinations. He was not popular
when he returned the next day.
We always want you to remain in the clinic area to be
observed by the nurse for 20 minutes after you receive the
vaccine so that you can be observed, in the case of an
anaphylactic reaction. (More about that in a few minutes.)
This is a serious medical emergency and must be treated
immediately. Your consent form will, most likely, also
include a waiver for liability.
How does all this work? How do you get the actual
vaccination? You will receive the flu shot into a muscle in
the arm (Deltoid). To make this even easier for yourself,
relax your arm as much as possible. If the arm is relaxed,
the tissue inside will have lots of room for the fluid.
Stiffen it up and it's painful and will most likely bleed.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

Sien had Sam go over to Africa and get Sonora, Hemno,
Kenyata and Mombudo. Sien wanted them to come to China, to
the orphanage for a special ceremony.
The pair of them were cooking up this ceremony for a
very special person well deserving special recognition.
"Sam, after Africa, go to Matto Grosso and get Miguele
and Abetta, Oomano, Romano and the kids, then the village to
get David, Pam, the kids and Boolanga, Karmuz and the kids.
Bring them all here. I will bring other guests.
Sam set down right in front of the cook fire at
Sonora's. "Hi you guys. I'm glad to catch you all home. I
want you to come with me to China. We are holding a ceremony
and it would be real nice to have you there."
"Hello, Sam. You mean right now? Ceremony for who? Do we
have time to eat?"
Sam laughed. "Yes, I won't tell you and no. How's that
for answers to your questions." He laughed again.
Sam was a good natured man, ready and willing to laugh
at near anything. He always brought out the best in people.
Willingly, the family put away the food, doused the fire
and were ready to come with Sam.
"I want to stop in Matto Grosso to get Miguele and the
family, then at the village. We can all go together. I don't
want any of us to show up too early and we should be all
together."
"Mr. Sam, what are you planning. It sounds devious."
Hemno laughed.
"No, Hemno, not devious. We just don't want to tip our
hand too early."
With that they were off, only to set foot on Miguele's
doorstep.
"Hello folks," Sam had knocked on the door and then
stepped in, "I've brought company."
"Hi, Sam. Hello Kenyata, Mombudo, kids. What are you
folks doing here? Come on in. Sit. Let me get you something
to eat."
"No, no Abetta. We came to get you and Miguele, Oomano,
Romano and the kids and Juanita. We want you to join us in
China. We are all going over to see Riata's orphanage and we
are going to hold a special ceremony. It is important you
attend. Come, please."
"We'd be happy to come, Sam. Let me go get the kids."
Miguele left to get Oomano and Romano. He was gone maybe
15 minutes. Before long they were all there at Miguele's.
"Hello, Sam, what's up?" Romano was inquisitive.
"We are holding a special ceremony at Riata's orphanage,
Romano. We wanted all our friends to be there. I hope you
don't mind the interruption."
"Not at all. We haven't seen Riata for a long time and
we're happy to come."
"Good. We have to make a stop in the village on our way,
to gather others to our cause. I'd like us all to arrive at
once rather than piecemeal."
"Let's go!"
Away they left, appearing at the village within the same
instant.
Such a large group, to appear all at once caused quite a
stir in the village. They touched down on the beach right in
the middle of the kids never ending ball game. They stopped,
for the visitors, until the group moved up the hill a little
bit, then the game resumed.
Sam walked up the hill to the village level and the
first person he saw was David. "Hello, David! How are you
today?"
"Hi, Sam, I'm fine, and you.?"
"I'm terrific, as usual, David. Pam around?"
"Yeah, she's right over there."
"Good, Come with me."
Sam walked over to Pam and offered his greetings. He
then proceeded to explain his mission. When he finished he
asked David and Pam to accompany him and to bring their
kids.
Dave and Pam agreed and went to gather up their kids.
Sam went to find his grandchildren, Sammy and AliAnn.
Before long he spotted them and called. He explained to them
what was happening and asked them to join him.
"Sure, Grandpa!" The two would go anywhere with Sam.
Sam had them go gather on the beach with the rest of the
growing group. Next he was on his way to find Boolanga and
Karmuz. Boolanga was out on a hunt. Sam sent him a message,
asking him to return.
Within minutes Boolanga was home.
"What are you out hunting for? You no longer have need
of that?"
"I know, Sam. I was just seeing if my skills are what
they used to be. This sedentary lifestyle makes me fat."
Boolanga laughed. So did Sam.
Sam explained the reason for his visit and asked
Boolanga, Karmuz and the kids to join him in his mission.
They agreed.
Sam gathered all his people on the beach. When they were
all ready he nodded his head and the entire group vanished.
None in the village were surprised. They had seen this type
of thing before. All the kids on the beach knew what was up.
Many of them joined.
At the orphanage there was much confusion. All these
people coming all at once was a complete surprise to all at
the orphanage.
Yet, what was the worst was that no one knew why the
gathering. Those already at the orphanage were completely
confused, not knowing what was going on.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Jazz: Where does the wor "jazz" come from?
The word comes to us from Creole French - by way of the
minstrel show dandy who carried a cane and wore spats, "Mr.
Jasbo." In Creole French a "dandy" is called a chasse beaux
- or a "beaux chaser" - because he's so attractive that he
chases all the other beaux away. The syncopated music we now
call "jazz" was used in the "cakewalk" - a form of of
competition for these "beaux" at box socials. Minstrel shows
adopted the character, the dance, the music, the name of the
dance and the name chasse beaux for the competitors - but,
not knowing French, spelled the latter, "Jassbo," "Jasbo"
and "Jazzbo". The vulgar meaning of the term has its origin
in another characteristic of the original beaux.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
There were three country churches in a small Texas town:
Presbyterian, Methodist and Catholic. Each church was
overrun with pesky squirrels. One day, the Presbyterian
church called a meeting to decide what to do about the
squirrels. After much prayer and consideration they
determined that the squirrels were predestined to be there
and they shouldn't interfere with God's divine will.
The Methodist group got together and decided that they were
not in a position to harm any of God's creations. So, they
humanely trapped the squirrels and set them free a few miles
outside of town. Three days later, the squirrels were back.
It was only the Catholics who were able to come up with the
best and most effective solution: They baptized the
squirrels and registered them as members of the church. Now
they see them only on Christmas and Easter.
