TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What causes your body to shiver?

Where did the term "doubleheader" originate?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Can a person survive on shoe leather?

Again, not too long. But leather does have nutritional value
and a starving person (say, one lost in that desert) could
sustain life for a short time by chewing on his shoes or
belt.

Is it true that you lose most of your body heat through your
head when in the cold?

Yes. Listen to your mother when she tells you to wear a hat
in winter! A person loses 50-75 percent of his body heat
when hatless.

Get Their Attention First!

A farmer lived on a quiet rural highway. But a new express-
way bypass meant an alarming increase in traffic. In fact,
it was so heavy and so fast that his chickens were being run
over at a rate of three a day.

So he called the sheriff's office and said, "You've got to
do something about these people driving so fast and killing
all of my chickens."

So the next day the sheriff went out and put up a sign that
read: SLOW: SCHOOL CROSSING

Three days later the farmer called again and said, "You've
got to do something about these drivers. The School Crossing
sign seems to make them go faster."

So, again, the sheriff went out and put up a new sign: SLOW:
CHILDREN AT PLAY

No good. So the farmer calls again...and again, everyday for
three weeks, but the sheriff just doesn't have time to put
up signs every week. Finally, the telephone calls stop and
the sheriff becomes very curious.

So he drives out to the farmer's house, and there on the
edge of the road he sees a new sign. It's a whole sheet of
plywood. And written in large yellow letters are the words:

SLOW: NUDIST COLONY

In all of life we have communications problems. Most of the
time when we want to solve a problem we must speak with
someone else about it.

Our ability to get that job done is directly affected by our
ability to reach that part of the listeners mind where they
develop a caring about the subject and about listening to
you.

The number of competing forces that are continually
bombarding a person for attention means that when we are one
of them we must somehow penetrate deeper than our
competitors.

That is what that joke is about. While there was no nudist
colony present, the sign clearly got the job done.

The sheriff used all the usual, and purportedly useful,
methods at his command except one. He was a thinker that
stayed well inside the box because he believed the world
would listen to his authority.

The farmer, on the other hand was much more motivated and
decided that whatever he did he was after a solution that
worked. So he dig deep down into his well of wisdom and came
up with the solution.

That is what you must do. When you want to speak to someone,
especially where you want some resultant action, then you
must be very clear in your communications. However, no
matter how clear, if the listener is not hearing what you
are saying your communication goes wasted.

The only way to solve that problem is to create a situation
where you have your subjects full and undivided attention.

The best way to do that is to hit them first on a subject of
real and deep interest to them, then, when it is clear they
are truly communicating with you, speak your message.

This is a natural human trait. Don't get mad at it. Just do
like the farmer did. Stop, think of what will get their
attention, then do it.

Remember, the single most significant factor in good
communications is

Get Their Attention First!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

To Be Vaccinated Or Not To Be Vaccinated
Do Some Serious Deliberation Before
You Offer Your Arm
PART 12 of 15

Let’s talk about side effects or reactions. Most people
have little or no reaction (side effects) to the flu shot.
There may be some redness, swelling, or soreness at the site
of injection for 1-2 days. Some people can experience fever
and achy muscles (flu-like symptoms) 6-12 hours after the
injection. These can last 1-2 days. Taking acetaminophen may
help alleviate these side effects.

But there are two situations which require immediate
attention: minor and major. The minor reaction is a
vasovagal response. It happens when your body doesn’t like
the physical trauma, chemical, or metal of the needle. It is
fast and the person usually feels lightheaded and not well,
often loosing consciousness. Treatment consists of taking a
blood pressure and having the person lie down for a little
while. This feeling passes fairly quickly and there are no
lasting effects.

The minor ones also can include fever, feeling unwell and
sore muscles. These occur infrequently and usually occur in
persons who have not had exposure to the influenza virus
antigens in the vaccine (i.e. young children).

This person, as already mentioned, should be very wary of
having more injections outside of a qualified medical
practioner’s office. That includes any dental office. Who
knows what has caused this particular episode? What if it
happens again? Would the outcome be much more serious? It
may be convenient for the person to say “oh, that’s OK…this
happens all the time” but it sure isn’t OK for the nurse and
all the other people waiting. This is not a normal reaction
and these are clinics for well people.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

your favorite bookstore. ISBN # 1-4137-4723-X

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

Riata was busy making everyone welcome. She, too, was
completely surprised and happy for all the company. She had
been working hard at this orphanage, with very little
company from home or others she knew. All she really knew is
that the work was very important and she had to keep at it.
She had been away for only a couple days, here and there.

Miguele had just finished giving his Riata a very big
hug. Miguele loved his daughters. They were fine girls. He
could see Oomano every day. She brought the kids over on a
daily basis. But Riata he had not seen for nearly six
months. He held on to her as if he were going to lose her.

For Riata, the feeling was mutual. She loved her Father
dearly. He had always treated her and her sister as equals,
giving them lots of room to grow and expand their ideas. It
was her Father who believed Eloise and permitted her to take
Oomano and Riata away from home. Upon their return the girls
had learned higher law. That was a huge step for their
Mother, Abetta, but not for Miguele.

Riata hugged her Father back. She had missed his wise
council, his loving ways, his never ending support of
anything the girls worked on. He would have been good to
have around here. Not only was he a handyman, but he was a
lover of children and could keep them occupied for days on
end.

Now she moved to her Mother, to whom she gave an equally
long and loving hug. Abetta was not quite so permissive as
Miguele, but she was the steady one. She had always, in good
times and bad, made a home for the girls. If it had not been
for the changes wrought by higher law the girls may never
have known how poor the family had been. Abetta just seemed
to keep everything running, even when she had nothing to
work with.

Riata now moved to her sister. This was a close family
and the love between the two girls was a permanent part of
the landscape. No person would ever get in the way or
between these two. They hugged.

Next on Riata's list was Romano, her sister's husband.
The bond of love here was not so strong, but forged out of
respect and a high regard as to how Romano treated her
sister. She loved him for that.

Then there were the two kids. Aunty Riata had lots of
kisses and hugs for them.

Standing, she looked around and found Sonora, Hemno,
Kenyata and Mombudo. She saw David, Pam and the kids. "What
are all you guys doing here? Welcome. Gee it's good to see
all of you. I've missed you for a long time."

Then she spotted Sam. He stood out in any crowd, if not
for his size, then for the glowing light he emitted from
every pore. Sam was one of those people magnets. All
who met him loved him. That was mostly because Sam broadcast
love outward some 30 feet in all directions. He was a
powerful man in that regard.

"Sam Henry, every time I see you there are more
surprises. Why in the world did you bring all these people
here. It's wonderful, Sam. I haven't seen . . . ." Riata's
voice trailed off as is she were further and further
distant.

She stood still in front of Sam. Then, quietly, she
began to walk toward the rear of the orphanage. She did not
move fast, slow actually. As she was moving her countenance
began to light up. She became radiant. She moved as if she
knew what was up, as if by a magnet. People moved aside to
let her pass. All were silent. She lit up everything around.

Those behind her began to follow, slowly. They kept up
with her but allowed her to lead the way.

Everyone around stopped what they were doing and came
around to be behind Riata. Sam made sure Miguele, Abetta,
Oomano, Romano, Juanita and the kids were front centre.

No one knew what was up but Sam. The love that was
present was so thick it drew everyone with it.

Riata moved with a certainty that had others thinking
she knew what was happening. She did not but she knew she
had to be in the rear of the orphanage. Had it not been for
the fact all the guests present were her friends in higher
law this would have been a fight or flight situation wherein
she would have become wary and protective. Not so now. She
was experiencing love and was being drawn to the rear of the
orphanage.

Then, there it was, the light of lights, the embodiment
of love, the three Masters. Muhammad stepped out of the
light. Buddha stepped out of the light. Jesus stepped out of
the light.

Jesus raised his hands. "Man hath no greater love than
he who lays down his life for another. This woman has been a
servant unto mankind for years. She gave her human life to
preserve the truth and the law. She took in those who had no
future and loved them. She taught those around her higher
law. She gives with no thought of return and she expects
nothing. She is a chosen woman, a gifted woman, a woman who
cares. She has done all this without receiving thanks. She
has done all this that others may live full rich lives as
their Maker wishes. This woman has put her life on hold that
she may serve others. She is blessed among women. Be it
known henceforth this woman shall council with me. She shall
oversee the work and she shall carry my message unto all."

Jesus stepped forward and placed his arms around Riata.
They disappeared in the intensely bright light. All remained
where they were for nearly three minutes. When the light
diminished and the two were visible Riata's countenance had
changed. She radiated love, beauty and power in all
directions. She wore a permanent smile. Her eyes not only
sparkled they literally flashed light. She was dressed in a
shimmering white gown that, itself, was filled with power.

TOMORROW - - - Things change

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Keelhaul: what is the reason a severe reprimand is called a
"keelhauling"?

In certain European navies it was once the practice to tie a
delinquent sailor to a yardarm, attach a weight to his feet,
and they by means of a rope "haul" him from one side of the
ship to the other beneath the "Keel". The result was often
fatal.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what
keeps you going.
---- Jim Ryun

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

Definitions of words and terms for men so they might
understand what women are really saying. We suggest that
each woman make a copy for the man in her life.

FINE - This is the word women use to end an argument when
they feel they are right and you need to shut up. Never use
"fine" to describe how a woman looks this will cause you to
have one of those arguments.

FIVE MINUTES - This is half an hour. It is equivalent to
the five minutes that your football game is going to last
before you take out the trash, so it's an even trade.

NOTHING - This means "something", and you should be on
your toes. "Nothing" is usually used to describe the feeling
a woman has of wanting to turn you inside out, upside down,
and backwards. "Nothing" usually signifies an argument that
will last "Five Minutes" and end with 'Fine'.

GO AHEAD (With Raised Eyebrows) - This is a dare. One that
will result in a woman getting upset over "Nothing" and will
end with the word "Fine".

GO AHEAD (Normal Eyebrows) - This means, "I give up" or "do
what you want because I don't care". You will get a "Raised
Eyebrow Go Ahead" in just a few minutes, followed by
"Nothing" and "Fine" and she will talk to you in about "Five
Minutes" when she cools off.

LOUD SIGH - This is not actually a word, but is a
non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud
Sigh" means she thinks you are an idiot at that moment, and
wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and
arguing with you over "Nothing".

SOFT SIGH - Again, not a word, but a non-verbal statement.
"Soft Sighs" mean that she is content. Your best bet is to
not move or breathe, and she will stay content.

THAT'S OKAY - This is one of the most dangerous statements
that a woman can make to a man. "That's Okay" means that she
wants to think long and hard before paying you back for
whatever it is that you have done. "That's Okay" is often
used with the word "Fine" and in conjunction with a "Raised
Eyebrow."

GO AHEAD - At some point in the near future, you are going
to be in some mighty big trouble.

PLEASE DO - This is not a statement, it is an offer. A
woman is giving you the chance to come up with whatever
excuse or reason you have for doing whatever it is that you
have done. You have a fair chance with the truth, so be
careful and you shouldn't get a "That's Okay".

THANKS - A woman is thanking you. Do not faint. Just say
you're welcome.

THANKS A LOT - This is much different from "Thanks." A
woman will say, "Thanks A Lot" when she is really ticked off
at you. It signifies that you have offended her in some
callous way, and will be followed by the "Loud Sigh." Be
careful not to ask what is wrong after the "Loud Sigh," as
she will only tell you "Nothing".
