What is Britain's PDSA Dickin Medal?

The PDSA Dickin Medal is Britain's highest animal award for
bravery and is better known as the "Animal's Victoria
Cross." Fifty-eight animals -- including 32 pigeons, 22
dogs, three horses and one cat -- have received the Dickin
Medal so far. One recipient of the medal is a Canadian
Newfoundland known as "Gander," whom Jeremy Swanson of the
Canadian War Museum said saved the lives of Canadian troops
during the battle for Hong Kong in 1941, when Japanese
forces invaded the British colony. Gander is the first
Canadian dog to ever receive the award. The dog was the
mascot of the Royal Rifles of Canada, one of two Canadian
regiments deployed in Hong Kong. Several times, he
distracted Japanese invaders - preventing them from finding
hidden Canadian soldiers. His final act was to run after and
catch a hand grenade tossed by Japanese troops. Gander
carried the grenade off in his mouth. It exploded moments
later, killing the dog. The most recent award recipients:
Salty, Roselle, and Appollo, three dogs who performed
courageously during the events of September 11th. Salty and
Roselle were guide dogs who led their owners down more than
70 floors of the World Trade Center to safety. Appollo was
one of the search-and-rescue dogs employed at Ground Zero
and the Pentagon. He was given the award in recognition of
all 300 or so dogs who helped to search for life in the days
following the terrorist attacks.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------

Follow Your Leading!

Each person has, beating within their breast, a life
mission. There is a driving force that leads, pushes,
cajoles us into certain directions. That is our mission, our
leading.

It is that force, which, when we follow it, leads us to
accomplishments that make our life's work worthy and
successful.

Yes, we all think we need money. A great many want to be
rich. Too many of us think that money is power. A foolish
thought at best, but that is what many think.

Yet each of us has come to live in earth to further our
spiritual knowledge (notice I did not say religious
knowledge) and learn the ways of our Maker. The pushing from
"inside" is that leading that shows us the way to do what we
came here to do.

Follow that leading. Make a point of "listening" and going
where it tells you for that is the mission of your life. You
should follow without hesitation, reservation or
equivocation of any kind.

Few there are who do this, yet the wise will follow without
even thinking of contrary action. So, too, should you.

Some say, "I feel it but I don't know what it is saying to
me!"

My answer to you is "Good! That means you are at least
listening. Now what you must do is to listen deeper, and
harder." When you go to work or embark on a project, pay
attention to what it feels like "inside". If you have the
"sense" it isn't right then you may well know that failure
in that task lies ahead.

If you "sense" it is right, then you may well expect success
in your future.

Know, too, that some things come into your life to satisfy a
momentary need.

I do not know how many times I have come up with a job
because there was some money guzzling bill that I didn't
know about, that was about to show itself in my future.

Once that was looked after there was no more need for that
job.

Those of you who feel I am talking against the status quo,
you are right, if you think the status quo is that imposed
by man. However, the soul and our Maker is infinitely more
powerful than man and those who learn to follow also have
power available not known to most men.

I had the occasion to sit in the back seat of a car one
time, with a gentleman with a PhD in Economics sitting
beside me. We were on a mutual business trip, wanting to
survey some real estate properties, as we were contemplating
a purchase. During the conversation he advised me that money
was power and that was his goal, to have power.

I looked at the man in disbelief. Here was a man, with the
highest possible education made available by man, telling me
that his objective in life was to gain and wield power over
others because he had money.

I told him flat out that money had no power, was the
furthest thing in the world from power and in no way
represented power of any sort. If he wanted POWER he best
look in other directions. It became clear he knew not of
what I was speaking. And so he continued his way to failure
after failure.

Follow what you leading is. Let it lead you to your success,
your happiness. Go contrary at your own peril.

Follow Your Leading!

The Inflammatory Process
A Special Gift From Nature To You
PART 2 of 12

As in all my health articles, please respect the fact I am
trying to share information that helps you to think a little
differently. Please don’t use this to make any medical
changes to your own situation. That is not my intent. I will
have more to say about that later on. I do not apologize for
the simplicity of the examples or thoughts. My purpose is to
get you to think, to question things you don’t understand,
to use your common sense. Don’t kid yourself; you
instinctively have a lot of common sense. We are born with
it and it is meant to serve you. And as you learn to
question what might be happening in your body, your actions
might also be different with this new knowledge.

What is the inflammatory process? It is certainly one of the
main “contributors” to any reactions that go on in your
body. It is automatic and swift. It is involuntary. You have
no warning it will happen, BUT its INTENTION is to PROTECT
you. As you read on, please start to think how you can now
start using this knowledge to understand your own
situation(s).

The term “inflammatory process” may not mean much to you,
but its physical action on your body is vitally important.
From the slightest seemingly harmless bump on your arm to
major diseases, the inflammatory process is at work to keep
you as healthy as possible or to restore your health as best
as it can, depending on its own health.

I think we feel it is sophisticated to avoid the simple
things and go for the drugs and the chemicals. But is it? We
desire the latest technologies, drugs, and gadgets. We have
abandoned some of the simpler solutions. Further along I
will share one of my most frequent explanations that reflect
this attitude. This may not be ultra- sophisticated, but you
will see in the “sinus cleaning” example, how a simple idea
works wonders!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

Miguele was watching all that was going on. He was
becoming melancholy, looking back at all that had happened
to him in his lifetime. It was amazing, at least to him.

He remembered the day he first saw Abetta. She was a
young black haired beauty that turned the eyes of anyone who
looked at her. Somehow she had escaped the gang scene,
mostly because she needed to help out around the house.
Abetta's Mother was a very ill woman when Abetta was young.
Abetta was needed around the house to cook, clean and keep
the family going where her Mother was unable.

Fortunate for Miguele, Abetta had a younger sister who
was coming up behind her. That at least allowed Abetta to
get out once in a while. They fell in love immediately.
Miguele could have flown around the world on his heartbeat
alone. When Abetta looked at him coyly, it would make him
disappear into fantasyland. He loved her so deeply he
worried as to whether she would marry him. He, after all had
nothing and came from a poor family.

One day he could stand it no longer and, desperate for
an affirmative answer, asked Abetta to marry him. She
sighed, "Miguele, if you hadn't asked me this week I was
going to date the neighbor boy. You are so slow I was
beginning to worry whether you would ever ask me."

"That's a 'yes' then?"

"Of course its a yes. I love you ... you big goof. Yes I
will marry you, but we have to work it out with the family."

"Yes. I will ask your Father for your hand as soon as we
get home."

"You do that, but that isn't what I was referring to. We
are a poor family. We have no money and few friends. We will
have to work out all the arrangements so it does not hurt
the family. I will speak with my sister."

As soon as he took Abetta home he sought out her Father
and asked for her hand in marriage. Immediately there was a
sad expression on her Father's face. He reacted as if he was
losing his daughter. "Yes, son, but if I ever hear you are
mistreating her I will come for you and you will wish you
had never seen me this day."

"Y-yes sir."

Within the year the pair of them were married at a small
family gathering. Miguele and Abetta bought all the food and
the rings they decided to buy were nowhere near a diamond.

That didn't matter to the couple. They were so much in
love Miguele could have given her a ring woven from grass.

They moved to the little house they presently live in.
There was a lot of land around it. Miguele liked that.

The couple had two baby girls, one a year after they
were married and the other the following year. Miguele
worked out anywhere he could find a job. Their income was
poor. Many a night he would come home with nothing in hand.
Many a night he and Abetta went without food, giving the
only food they had to the girls.

Over time the situation became so desperate even the
girls were beginning to show signs of poor health. It became
a worry to Miguele. He felt incompetent, a failure. There
was no such thing as a welfare check. Here you worked or you
starved to death. Worse, you worked or your children would
starve to death.

Not one word of complaint came from Abetta's mouth. She
was in this with him and she knew he was doing his best to
feed his small family. No amount of harassing or haranguing
on her part was going to make things any better. Every once
in a while she was able to find a job cleaning a house for
someone. When she did it was not uncommon for her to come
home with some bread, plus her pay. Both Abetta and Miguele
were frugal. They could stretch a peso a very long way.

One night his girls became ill for no apparent reason.
They did not have colds, flu or any childhood disease. They
were just listless, pasty looking and lethargic. They were
ill, deep down ill.

Something snapped within Miguele. Without saying
anything to Abetta, he left the house. He was going to go
downtown and rob one of those wealthy tourists. They have
more money than they know what to do with. Miguele was so
desperate he never even knew that most tourists didn't carry
money. There was such a thing as credit cards. That is what
they carried, not money. He had no idea what a credit card
was or what to do with one. No matter he was going to rob
one or more. Somehow he was going to get money so he could
feed his girls.

It took Miguele over an hour to get downtown. He really
didn't know where he was going. He had never been to this
part of the city before. He waited. It was nearly dark.
There was no one around. Where were these wealthy tourists?

Then, there was a young couple came walking out of the
hotel. They weren't holding hands. They were just talking.
He watched for a while. They were looking into store windows
and talking away, something about airports and airplane
flights, another thing Miguele didn't know or understand.

Oops, they were turning to walk back to the hotel. He
ran up behind them, grabbing a stick he found on the road,
while on his way. He put the stick hard into the back of the
man and pushed the woman, face first, into the wall of the
hotel and demanded their money.

What happened next took him completely by surprise. He
wasn't even sure of what happened. Suddenly he lost control.
Someone else was controlling him. He could not carry out
what he had come there to do. What was happening?

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Lagniappe? What is the origin of the term "lagniappe"?

This name for a trifling gift from a merchant to his
customer originated in New Orleans. The Quichuan Indian
language has a word yapa with the same meaning. In Caribbean
countries this is generally napa. The French of New Orleans,
is adopting this term, added the article, la.

HA! HA! HA!

A man was chosen for jury duty who very much wanted to be
dismissed from serving. He tried every excuse he could think
of but none of them worked. On the day of the trial he
decided to give it one more shot. As the trial was about to
begin he asked if he could approach the bench.

"Your Honor," he said, " I must be excused from this trial
because I am prejudiced against the defendant. I took one
look at the man in his blue suit with those beady eyes and
that dishonest face and I said 'He's a crook! He's guilty,
guilty, guilty!' So your Honor, I can not possibly stay on
this jury!"

With a tired annoyance, the judge replied, "Get back in the
jury box. That man is his lawyer."
