thePEBBLE - 11/27/05 - Growth And Pain Are Buddies!
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
A typical, obviously American, community. Two young people
given an opportunity for an a adventure with an attainable
financial reward. Their adventure into the inkonwn, not
restrained by dogmatic rules or community restraints, leads
them to resources that change no only the two adventurers'
attitudes, but attitudes of others.
The reader will either come away with a a feeling of
wonderment or question the writer's declared source, his
Maker, for the content.
I was not envious of the characters' adventures but enjoyed
the book as it refreshed the wonderment I had as a youth and
now as a practical adult, to "think outside the box" about
powers that are within us.

Jerry Harlton was an executive assistant to the Right
Honourable Joe Clark, the former Prime Minister of Canada
It took me back to my youth and now inspires me to "think
outside the box".

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How many books has Isaac Asimov written?
Isaac Asimov, one of science fiction's most prolific
writers, has produced more than 400 books. They weren't all
science fiction either. He's written mysteries, science
non-fiction, textbooks, a guide to Shakespeare, and even his
own book of facts!
Is it true that Charles Dickens once lived a life similar to
the impoverished children in some of his novels?
Yes. Author Charles Dickens was born into an impoverished
family and worked as a virtual child slave in a London
blacking factory. His life took a turn for the better,
however. By the age of twenty-five, he was the most popular
author in England.

Growth And Pain Are Buddies!
That's right. Growth and pain are buddies. Indeed you cannot
separate them. You can't have one without the other.
Ever watch a plant grow? Watch what happens when you water a
plant. It thanks you almost right away. Let it dry out and
it will tell you when it is suffering. Add a little
fertilizer to feed it and water to nourish it and again it
will thank you right away.
But when you put an herbicide on it, it withers and dies.
Know why? You really didn't poison it. Most herbicides are a
concentrated form of fertilizer which, when applied to a
plant causes it to grow so fast it cannot support itself.
People, businesses and finances are the same way.
Some suffer from finances that are insufficient. The pain of
that experience causes wrong reactions in people. They
become angry, frustrated and other painful side affects
occur.
Give a person a "normal" amount of money and they will feel
better, yet if they know they have not earned it, the money
will end up being wasted, or the frustration levels
continue.
Allow a person to earn money and the self esteem rises with
the bank account, and a persons physical health even becomes
better. Or so studies reveal.
Have a person win a lottery and the large amount of money
all at once, in "immediate" fashion, is like putting an
herbicide on a plant. The results of anyone doing well with
huge and immediate winnings are so few they are noteworthy.
It just doesn't happen.
Businesses, too, must go through growth phases. Cause a
business to grow at a normal rate, permitting owners to put
systems in place that grow with the business, is good.
Growth that is too slow, has a negative impact and growth
that is too fast is similarly catastrophic, at least in the
vast majority of cases.
Growth, too little causes the pain of fear, frustration and
anger. Too fast causes the ego to outgrow itself and
disaster is the result.
Growth that progresses at a normal planned rate and is the
result of applied planning is what makes an individual
wealthy. The reason is that a person has grown right along
with the business. The success and money available to a
person under those circumstances is felt to be earned and is
gradual enough a person gets used to it along the way. That
is the growth you want.
Wisdom dictates that growth other than the applied plan
type, is both dangerous and painful. Take your pick, yet be
aware that as your business grows at a steady pace, so do
you. At the end of a period of time both you and the
business are doing fine. Shun any other type of growth. It
hurts.

The Inflammatory Process
A Special Gift From Nature To You
PART 7 of 12
With this bit of knowledge, you may want to question using
something that slows down your healing. What is your
responsibility in all of this if it needed? Ask yourself if
you keep yourself healthy, by eating properly and
adequately, and by recognizing things that might be harmful.
Then make some informed decisions.
Here is an example of something I come across every single
day. Sinus problems. I want to take a few moments to help
you understand and think through what many people do
routinely: when we suspect we find ourselves in these
situations.
Something (decaying plants, or noxious fumes, or tree
pollen, etc.) comes into your head and respiratory system,
and sets off the inflammatory process in one or more of
these filtering sponges known as your sinus tissue. It is
the tissues responsibility to filter out this intruder
(cause). This inflammatory process now the increases its
fluid production (result). Other healing or cleaning
ingredients available from the body are also activated. (See
definition.) Eventually this results in a dripping action.
(Successful filtration.) And that is the bodys way to get
the debris out of your body.
But let me explain what our regular or normal actions end up
doing. I imagine that you probably dont like this result
(drippy nose, itchy eyes, sinus pressure, or post nasal
drip.) Your sinuses have done a really good job of filtering
and now the fluid containing all this debris has to go
somewhere. So you take drugs such as decongestants,
antihistamines, and nasal sprays. Do you see what you have
just done? You have stopped the bodys natural actions to
get this unwanted stuff out of your body. So the intruder
still sits in there, and your inflammatory process is in
limbo, causing havoc. And your body has no way to prevent
the immediate intrusion. Is this really what you wanted to
achieve? Do you think a shrunken, dried sinus sponge can
help you at all now? A healthy sponge or sinus tissue is
moist and capable of cleaning or in this case, filtering.
Look at a sponge at home. You always have to moisten it to
make is work. Otherwise it is dry and scratchy, and you
dont get anything done.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"What do you mean?" The kids were suspicious.
"What if I were to arrange for you to have good clothes,
a warm place to sleep every night and three good meals a
day, every day? Would you agree to stop stealing from the
merchants and help them instead? And would you agree to
spend at least one hour a day with me so I can show you a
few things?"
The kids were so taken with the miraculous change in the
land they were standing on and by the continual love they
felt from this woman, they reluctantly agreed.
Riata knew that she would have to earn their respect on
a daily basis for a while, but that would soon fall into
place. She wanted support from the merchants around the
vacant lot, so she arranged for the kids to no longer steal,
but to help the merchants instead.
Before a month was gone by the merchants were coming
with offers of money, merchandise, assistance. The change on
the street was so dramatic the merchants teamed up to help
the orphanage.
Miguele looked back on that time. It was the time Riata
moved out of the house. It wasn't an announced move, more
like a gradual drifting toward the kids on the street. Every
night she would come home telling the family stories of what
was happening downtown. From time to time Miguele put her in
the truck and the pair of them drove to the area so Miguele
could see with his own eyes.
"Riata, sweetheart, I only earn so much money. I can't
help with a problem this big."
"Daddy, I don't need your help. All I need is your love
and support for my ideas and my efforts. Because of the
power and knowledge Oomano and I gained when Missy showed us
the way to live by higher law, I can do this by myself, but
it will likely mean I move out of the house. I don't want to
hurt you and Momma, yet I want you to see the kids need me
and I am able to help. I need your love and support."
"Sweetheart, if you promise me you'll come home to see
your Momma and me once in a while, I'll give you all the
help I can. So will your Momma."
Riata leaned over from the passenger side of the truck
and gave her Dad a big kiss. "Thank you Daddy. Park the
truck and come see the kids."
At that time Riata had not done anything to the vacant
lot, neither had she erected the roof. But the kids seemed
to be there this morning, when Miguele drove up. When Riata
got out of the truck they all came and wanted to share ideas
with her.
Riata introduced her Dad. That immediately meant the
kids treat him with respect. Strange though. Here was an
older adult who seemed to have no interest in telling them
what to do. He accepted them for who and what they were.
They felt that acceptance.
As time went by Riata cleaned up the lot, erected the
roof and stayed there with the kids, causing them to have
good clothing, shelter and food. The kids, for their part,
tried hard to break their habits of stealing. That first
month was such a shock to the neighboring merchants even
they were suspicious of what was going on. When they saw and
they realized, they were all there with enthusiastic
support.
Riata, of course, declined accepting any gifts from the
merchants. She was wholly able to supply all the kids needs.
Her real interest lay in the daily hour the kids agreed to
spend with her. In fact they spent much more time with her
than that but it was that hour she used to teach the kids
about the law "As ye sow, so shall ye reap".
The kids listened because this was not taught to them as
a moral issue. No one was passing judgment on them. She
showed them that all thinking, all action produces results.
Therefore if they think about the kind of results they want,
first, that will help them decide upon a course of action
that will allow them to achieve the desired result.
Many of the kids were hanging onto the idea that they
could just take what they wanted. Riata pointed out that
they could but the result was they were also getting a whole
bunch of other things they didn't want. She showed them that
by doing things that respected other people, and by doing
things according to custom, example buying what you wanted,
then they could have the things they wanted and be supported
by the community rather than have the community call the
police on them.
That idea made sense, but how could they buy anything
when they had no money to buy things with?
Riata worked with them to have them understand the
differences in importance of things. Food, for example, was
a high priority item, as was clothing and shelter. Toys were
far down the scale, being only passing whims and fancies.
She showed them how honor was more valuable than any
material thing. She showed them how, if they quit stealing,
that if they made up their minds flatly, absolutely and
forever, that they would no longer steal, then the merchants
would begin to trust them and even give them jobs, with pay.
Speaking this way allowed Riata to get inside the minds
of these street kids. She was able to show them how right
action produced right results, that it really had nothing to
do with the law, with the church or with morality. She
showed them that if they would lead peaceful, prosperous and
happy lives that there was a way, and, moreover, this way
would be supported and respected by their neighbors.
All this made sense to the kids. They began to respond.
The daily talks Riata had with them were time they all
looked forward to and each participated. The change was
considered miraculous.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Quarter: Why do we say we give "no quarter" when we mean we
show "no mercy"?
Because originally to "give quarter" meant to send conquered
enemy soldiers to a special section or "quarter" where they
remained until their fate was determined. They could be set
free, ransomed, or enslaved. If they were killed instead
they were given "no quarter".

HA! HA! HA!
Scene: A court room in Oklahoma where a person is on trial
for murder.
There is strong evidence indicating guilt; however, there is
no corpse. In the defense's closing statement the lawyer,
knowing that his client is guilty and that it looks like
he'll probably be convicted, resorts to a clever trick.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you
all," the lawyer says as he looks at his watch. "Within 1
minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into
this court room," he says and he looks toward the courtroom
door.
The jury, somewhat stunned, all look on eagerly. A minute
passes. Nothing happens. Finally the lawyer says: 'Actually,
I made up the previous statement. But you all looked on with
anticipation. I, therefore, put it to you that there is
reasonable doubt in this case as to whether anyone was
killed and insist that you return a verdict of not guilty."
The jury, clearly confused, retires to deliberate. A very
few minutes later, the jury returns and a representative
pronounces a verdict of guilty.
"But how?" inquires the lawyer. "You must have had some
doubt; I saw all of you stare at the door."
Answers the representative: "Oh, we did look. But your
client didn't."
