TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

According to legend, how is time different in the fairy
realm?

Who are the Hottentots?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What is the origin of fairies?

One story to explain where fairies came from says that they
were originally angels in heaven. When the rebellious
Lucifer and his followers were being expelled from heaven,
God the Son is said to have warned God the Father that soon
heaven would be empty. So the expulsion was suddenly stopped
and the expelled angels falling toward hell halted where
they were: some in mid-air, some in the oceans, and some on
the earth. Because of their expulsion, they are jealous of
human Christians and sometimes do them mischief. But they
are not entirely malevolent, for they hope to be permitted
to re-enter heaven one day.

What is a "changeling"?

A "changeling" is a member of the fairy community, usually
an elderly fairy, who is left in place of a child or adult
stolen by the fairies. Some legends say that the fairy
community lacks children, or even women, and so human
children and young women are stolen away. The changeling is
left in the human's place so that no one will know an
abduction has occurred. However, the changeling often looks
withered, or throws temper tantrums, or otherwise acts in a
manner that is inconsistent with the healthy human stolen
away. Often, children who were born or became deformed or
sickly were suspected of being changelings. The way to get
the healthy human back was to drive out or expose the
changeling, often through violent means. Sadly, in real
life, some children were actually killed by families hoping
to reclaim a "missing" healthy child. One ill woman, Bridget
Cleary, was murdered as late as 1895 by a husband who
believed (encouraged in part by family and neighbors) that
she was a changeling.

People Are Down On What They're Not Up On!

An old man and his wife lived deep in the hills and seldom
saw many people.

One day a peddler came by to sell his goods and asked the
man if he or his wife wanted to buy anything.

"Well, my wife ain't home, she's gone down to the crick to
wash clothes, but lemme see what you got," said the man.

The peddler showed him pots and pans, tools and gadgets, but
the old man wasn't interested.

Then the man spotted a mirror and said, "What's that?"

Before the peddler could tell him it was a mirror, the old
man picked it up and said, "My gosh! How'd you get a
picture of my Pappy?"

The old man was so happy he traded his wife's best pitcher
for it. The peddler left before the wife came back and
spoiled his sale.

The old man was worried that the wife would be mad at him
for trading her best pitcher, so he hid it in the barn
behind some boxes of junk.

He would go out to the barn 2 or 3 times a day to look at
the "picture" and eventually the wife got suspicious.

One day she got fed up and after he retired for the night,
she went out to the barn. She saw the mirror behind the
boxes, picked it up and said, "so this is the hussy he's
been foolin' around with!

A friend of mine years ago taught me that people are always
down on what they aren't up on. That appears to be the case
with the joke above.

It may also be the case with your customers. Are you
explaining everything clearly, so they understand?

One thing you must remember - there are so many high
pressure pitches out there that tell folks they will make a
mint this week, that visitors to your site are already
"conditioned" to expect the same from you. If they don't get
it, they are suspicious.

Isn't that strange? Here you are conducting a perfectly
legitimate business, telling it like it is, and because you
have not added the "hype" folks are suspicious of you, but
not of those who "hype" straight out lies.

That is why your task is to be exceptionally clear. It is
your task to let folks know you are straight forward and
legitimate, taking into account the fact they expect you to
be like a lot of liars out there.

Being straight forward is refreshing, but you still must
catch your reader's attention. The whole idea is to get them
to "understand" your material. Once they understand you will
find they become more interested. Once more interested the
chances are they will buy.

It is your job to get them to understand. Not all of us are
professional writers who can whip up a sales letter that can
work every time. Yet we should ask ourselves, "Are there,
really, any such sales letters?" Maybe there aren't, in
spite of what the guru's say. Maybe clarity, after all, is
what is needed.

These are a few simple thoughts to get you thinking of the
message you are putting out. Maybe "flash and dash" is good,
but why not try "clarity", "simplicity", "straight talk"?

Remember, always - - -

The Inflammatory Process
A Special Gift From Nature To You
PART 9 of 12

Now you are dealing with the chemicals from the drugs, the
debris of the nonfunctioning filter, (sinus) plus the
possible systemic side effects of the antihistamines and the
steroids. Is that what you want? Just asking…and hoping to
make you think.

I want to give you an over-simplification of allergy shots.
Having these, in my mind, is commendable to a point. But I
have always questioned the idea. Let’s say you have an
allergy to bees. You would not choose to be a beekeeper,
right? (Unless you were quite foolish.) But if you are
allergic to tree pollen you would now go for allergy shots
of tree pollen. (or give them to yourself.) The idea is to
get your body used to the irritant. Why would you want to do
that? Your body has already told you it doesn’t like tree
pollen. Let’s look at this a little closer. At the very
beginning when you were first exposed to this irritant, your
body’s inflammatory process was healthy and it tried to get
rid of the irritation (intruder). Either your inflammatory
process wasn’t healthy enough to overcome the frequent
exposure or other factors “drew on” your inflammatory
process and / or immune system. It became so weak it
couldn’t handle any more “work”. But probably you also
didn’t like the effects (allergic reaction): the cough, the
itchy eyes, the runny nose. These are all signs of an
allergy.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000812.htm

So you sought medical attention. And it came in the form of
antihistamines, cough medicines and decongestants, amongst
other things. Most of these are meant to quieten your body’s
natural desire to heal you. Did you really want to do this
result? Maybe not.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"It has been quite a story, hasn't it , Miguele? Now
look at the honor bestowed upon Riata because she has given
so much."

"I know, I can hardly believe it."

The pair of them, Eloise and Miguele, stayed side by
side for quite some time. Miguele again slipped back into
his memory bank.

After Riata had been shot, the news spread far and wide.
People came from all over to see. The kids finally erected a
shrine, something to be the center or attention, or an
object that represented Riata. Once they did that the news
spread once again as to how healing was happening at the
shrine.

The crowds lined up and down the streets and became so
large the city had to block off large areas to traffic. The
local merchants loved it and could hardly keep enough stock
in their stores.

The line up never ceased. In fact, Miguele reflected,
they continue unto this day, so many years after the event.
He was aware the church was now getting desperate. Here
the woman they wanted to do away with had died in such a way
as to create a healing center. People were coming from miles
around to be healed and left much money in the collection
pot. Additionally the kids gave hot food to all who came.
There seemed to be a never ending supply.

The church had wanted the orphanage so it could exercise
control over the kids. That looks good on a report to Rome.
However, their plan backfired. Not only do they not get the
kids but the orphanage is now taking in much more money than
the church. The church could not stand that.

Once more they sent people to do their dirty work. They
sent men to rob the kids, make trouble and generally cause
such a scene the city authorities would have to step in.
Little did they know the woman they caused to be shot, had
forewarned the kids and they had taken steps to be ready.

The church caused one of the kids, on the way to the
bank to deposit the money that had been collected, to be
kidnapped. Riata stepped in and brought the kid back. They
found the money having been spread out amongst all those who
did the deed. It was now spent on smokes and liquor. Riata
caused it all to make them sick.

Next, the church sent men to sneak up on the kids from
the rear of the orphanage, and over power them. This crew
were in for a big surprise.

The kids had rigged up nets, barrels filled with oil,
and signals. They were ready for anything coming from behind
the orphanage. Sure enough two men, uninvited, were on their
way into the orphanage. By prearranged signal, the kids
manned the oil barrels and the net.

As the uninvited guests made their way through the maze
of hallways the kids had set up, they were suddenly doused
with oil. They were soaked in it from head to foot. The
ground was also soaked and they lost their footing. There
was considerable confusion as they tried to get up but
couldn't. Then the net was dropped on them. The harder they
fought the more entangled they became. It was not long
before they were exhausted.

The kids did not let them up until they confessed who
they were and what they were doing. The kids also extracted
from them they were working for the cardinal, who secretly
paid them to come here and cause trouble.

All in all the kids had things very much under control.
They got a real thrill out of their traps working and
actually catching two petty hoods. When the hoodlums were
finally released they were sent packing. The kids cleaned up
the mess, refilled the oil barrels and reset all the
entrapment gear.

The criminals had to go back to where they usually
stayed. They were such a mess they were taunted no end. The
very idea that kids could beat them at their own game was a
complete embarrassment. They never tried that again.
Neither, incidentally, did anyone else. The reputation of
the kids traveled fast.

So from that day to this the orphanage was run by the
kids and there has been no more trouble. Miguele remembered
that at Oomano's wedding many of them graduated to higher
law. One or two of the original bunch remained at the
orphanage to help out, but the majority spread out around
the world to do the work. Three from the orphanage were here
helping Riata. Now, it appeared, she would be taken away
from them once more.

Then Miguele's mind went to the day he was very nearly
killed while delivering a parcel. He has Mazunta traveling
with him that day. Eloise and Mazunta had come to visit and
Mazunta decided he wanted to drive around with Miguele.

They had to go into the slums of town to deliver a
parcel. The building ended up being an empty building and
the address wrong, however, while there Miguele had to look
into every room to see if he could find somebody. He got all
the way up to the third and highest floor. When he knocked
on a closed door he heard shuffling going on inside. Then,
suddenly the door opened and men came running out. They
pushed Miguele to the wall of the hallway. One of them had a
knife and he stabbed Miguele several times.

Miguele was left for dead, losing a lot of blood
while lying on the floor. He was too weak to move. He knew
he was a goner. He remembered Mazunta in the truck, and
thought hard on him, finally calling.

Mazunta was tuned in. The men had come running out
of the building, laughing, yet in a hurry. Mazunta was
already suspicious when he was being pulled by Miguele's
thoughts.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Pagan: How did a "pagan" get that name?

The Christian Church made its first converts in the cities,
its next in the villages and its last in the country.
"Pagan" is from the Latin pagus and literally means
"belonging to a village."

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

One may go a long way after one is tired.
---- French proverb

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two
kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I
saw in my own second-grade classroom a few years back.

When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a
few sessions with my students. It helps them get over
shyness, and usually show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids
bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they
catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any
boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it to
school and talk about it, they're welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very
outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of
the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds
up a snapshot of an infant. "This is Luke, my baby brother,
and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.

"First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and
then Dad put a seed in Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in
there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord."

She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm
trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me.
The kids are watching her in amazement.

"Then, about two Saturdays ago, my mom starts saying and
going, 'Oh, oh, oh!'" Erica puts a hand behind her back and
groans. "She walked around the house for like an hour. 'Oh,
oh, oh!'" Now the kid's doing this hysterical duck walk,
holding her back and groaning. "My dad called the middle
wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on
the car like the Domino's man.

"They got my mom to lie down in bed like this." Then Erica
lies down with her back against the wall. "And then, pop! My
mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got
thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed,
like psshhheew!" This kid has her legs spread and with her
little hands are miming water flowing away. It was too much!

"Then the middle wife starts saying, 'push, push' and
'breathe, breathe.' They started counting, but never even
got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother.
He was covered in yucky stuff; they all said was from Mom's
play-center, so there must be a lot of stuff inside there."

Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow, and returned
to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since
then, if it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just
in case another Erica comes along.
