Are porcupines and hedgehogs related?
About the only thing that porcupines and hedgehogs
have in common are their quills and the fact that they're
both mammals. They aren't related at all. Porcupines
belong to the order rodentia, or the rodent order. They
are related to rats and mice. Hedgehogs are from the
order insectivora, an insect-eating group that also
includes shrews and moles.
Can porcupines really throw their quills at attackers?
Nope, that's a myth. Porcupine quills may become
dislodged onto an attacker, but the animal cannot
actually "throw" the quills. He has to be touched, or
swing his tail at the attacker and touch HIM. The quills
dislodge only after entering the flesh of the attacker.
Hedgehog quills don't come out at all. To protect itself,
the hedgehog usually tightens its muscles and curls
into a ball.

ARGUE FOR YOUR LIMITATIONS &
THEY ARE YOURS!

Recently I was talking with a friend who has multiple
sclerosis. When we first met, she was working full-time
and occasionally walking with a slight limp. Now, she
lives in a care facility and is completely immobilized in
an electric wheelchair with a little use of one hand.
Every possible day, she orders a special bus to take
her to the bustling waterfront of the town in which she
lives so that she can experience life as fully as possible,
to be part of the vitality.
This is a bright, vivacious woman with a positive
attitude and a determination not to live from limitation.
Would you be as determined in the face of adversity
of this kind?
You may not be physically immobilized, but, are you
mentally, emotionally or spiritually immobilized? Are
you allowing something to stop you without exploring
all the ways around it? Would you be willing to ram
through the difficulties to get what you say you
most want?
Times many, my coaching clients argue for their limitations.
Those are the 'Yes...but's' of life.
"Yes, I could do that, I guess, but......" Ever heard
yourself say that? Most of us do at one time or another.
The danger is that it becomes a lifestyle. Every molehill
seems like a mountain. Sometimes, we become experts
at molehill magnification! We can make any obstacle appear
insurmountable in our minds. (See my article, 'Mountain
Climbing Over Molehills' at www.OptimizeLifeNow.com )
Where do we get this habit?
It may have been handed to us when we were children.
Parents....particularly perfectionist parents....would say,
"Let me do that for you. I can do it better, faster, more
accurately, etc." We then might have assumed that we
were incapable of accomplishing things for ourselves.
Perfectionist parents leave a legacy of low self-esteem
often. Note to yourself: This had nothing to do with your
abilities. It was all about their fear of inadequacy. You
can do anything you set your mind to doing!
It may be from laziness. Ouch! It's true, though. If you
don't try anything, no one will expect anything from you.
Then, they will leave you alone. If this is true, FIX IT!
You're wasting your life.
It may be fear of failure that immobilizes you. That
makes you play very small in the world. It can lead to
low-self-esteem and a few other unpleasant things like
jealousy, resentment, gossip and self-pity. Not very
pretty! If other people can do things, so can you. It's
a choice. Choose in favor of expressing yourself and
reaching your goals.
Richard Bach's phrase "Argue for your limitations and
they are yours." has had a great impact on my life. In
his books, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, One, The Bridge
Across Forever and, my favorite, Illusions, he offers great
wisdom in accessible form. Read these books and
experience the gentleness of his wise perspective on life.

I once worked with a most wonderful nursing instructor! She only
had one flaw.she hated feet! She couldn't bear to look at them!
Or care for them! She probably wouldn't appreciate this article.
Your hands and feet play a vital role in your life: all day:
every day.
(Description)
What if you placed 110 bones in a long line.then added sheets of
skin, masses of muscle, twenty nails, fine hairs, plus some
connecting links? And threw in many long lines of nerves, and
miles of blood vessels? What would it add up to? Your feet and
hands!
It's really important to learn a few things that will give you a
more enjoyable, longer, pain-free and problem- free life. If you
look at your hands and wiggle them, you will see skin, ripples,
bumps, dips, lines, and hinges. You'll have chunks of flesh,
some slimming of hands and feet as your eyes work along to the
ends: to the "phalanges" ...the extensions of your hands and
feet. It all looks very peaceful and simple on the surface. Most
likely your skin colour will be whitish, darkish or a shade in
between.usually not reddish. This would be normal pigmentation.
Now turn your hands over and this still doesn't look too busy.
Now check out your feet.tops first. You see chubby toes, nails,
hairs and relatively little else unusual. On the underside,
which you can see very easily with a mirror, you will see
"buttons" instead of the usual "toe". You will see a heel and
maybe calluses (rough areas). If you have a normal foot, there
will be little to report. The same kinds of lines, etc. will be
present. You have now been given a visual inspection of both
hands and feet. They are "unremarkable" which in medical terms
means "all is well". There is nothing noteworthy. This is the
expected outcome.
(Action)
The nature of hands and feet is to be strong and flexible... to
be able to hold and to be moved or manipulated. As in the rest
of the body, bones provide the framework. This is the central,
stable anchor. But in your hands and feet, that stability is
also "invested" in many small bones rather than just a few large
ones.
BUT.It would be helpful and interesting to know a little medical
terminology first.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"The church has forgiven sin for centuries. It is good for
the soul." he said with a quiet weakness.
"Good for the soul, be damned. That is what the church
tells their parishioners to keep them in control. You make
them think you and you alone are the only one who can
interpret God's word. You think that it true? You are a
bigger fool than I have been. You ordered that woman
murdered. You will have to answer to God for that, to hell
with the church. Take no time thinking anyone listening
to your confession will absolve you of responsibility. You
fool. We are all guilty. Every priest who heard you give
the order is guilty." the priest spat in anger.
He sat down, knowing his career in the priesthood
was finished.
The Bishop only sat there. The words of the priest hit him
with the same ferocity as it hit the Cardinal.
"It is clear a rest is in order. We must take get away
and think this through. The Pope will be here in less
than a month and nothing must mar his visit. Father, you
go back to your parish and get a replacement. You too
for a temporary time, Bishop. I, too must rest. This has
become too much. We will go to the retreat in the
mountains overlooking the city. There we can come to
terms with this and find peace." said the Cardinal.
"You will never find peace from this. The church, YOU,
ordered that woman killed. There is no peace from that.
We might have been able to push it aside had she been
a normal woman. But this? This woman is of God. We
have never seen anything like this and she deals in
things we cannot touch or control. How will we find
peace?" asked the Bishop.
"I am not asking. Return to your offices and implement
that plan immediately. I will advise the retreat to expect
you tomorrow morning early." commanded the Cardinal.
He knew that once he had these men out of office then
things would quiet down and he could think. He also
knew that once they were in the retreat he had control
of them and they would no longer be a vexation.
That though had not crossed the minds of the Bishop
and the priest, for they thought, at the moment at least,
that the Cardinal was going to join them and the three
would work through this.
The Cardinal had no intentions of joining them. He
merely wanted them out of the way. That way he could
continue his sham of "holiness" and soon all would
settle down.
After the Bishop and priest left he called the retreat
and advised them to keep the pair away from all others
and to ensure they would not leave the retreat.
He then began to lay plans for taking over the orphanage.
He wanted to use civic officials for this task, if he could,
to keep the look of legitimacy. The idea was to let some
organization of known reputation take over the orphanage
or it would have to be shut down.
Riata watched all this with fascination. She was
completely amazed at the inner workings of the church.
She was raised, as a child, to trust this organization. That
it was behaving in this fashion was not a surprise, because
these were men, self centered men. However, the
machinations to maintain control were fascinating to
watch.
The Cardinal was hoping he could make all this occur
before the big visit coming up so he could give the news
then to higher church officials. He has less than a month,
so he had to hurry.
His interests were, of course, selfish. He felt that if he made
a good impression on Rome his record would show
he was worthy of advancement when the time came, for
example, an appointment in the Vatican.
He had several things going his way, or so he thought.
First, the orphanage was now being run by the children
themselves with no visible adult supervision. Next, they
were bringing in an extreme amount of money, which,
everyone knew, was not good for people. And then there
were the crowds that were disrupting the flow of traffic,
and the city.
He called the Mayor of the city and asked him over
for a visit.
During the Mayor's visit, where he was treated as if
he were royalty, they discussed the matter.
The Cardinal expressed visible, though false, concern
for the poor youngsters at the orphanage and their
leaderless condition at the moment.

A couple married for 15 years began having more than
usual disagreements. They wanted to make their marriage
work and agreed on an idea the wife had. For one month
they planned to drop a slip in a "Fault" box. The boxes
would provide a place to let the other know about
daily irritations.
The wife was diligent in her efforts and approach:
"leaving the jelly top off the jar," "wet towels on the shower
floor," "dirty socks not in hamper," on and on until the
