TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Are ravens and crows the same bird?

What were the Crusades all about?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What, then, is a mule?

A mule is the domesticated, hybrid offspring of a
mare (female horse) and a jackass (male donkey).
The offspring of a male horse (stallion) and a female
ass (jenny) is called a "hinny." Mules will often grow
to a size larger than either parent, and they live longer
than the horse. However, because it is a hybrid, the
mule is sterile and cannot reproduce. There have been
extremely rare reports of a few female mules having
produced young after they were bred to male asses
or to stallions. The first mules in North America are
thought to have been bred by George Washington.

What kind of animal is an ox?

An ox is the same as a bull, with one significant
exception. The ox has been castrated. He's then
trained to work, pulling plows. Sounds like he's got
the raw end of the deal, but actually he's lucky. Few
bull calves in the US are raised to breed. Many are
also castrated (like the ox, they're called "steers")
and raised to be slaughtered for beef.

TITLE ARTICLE - - -

Too Eager? You Might End
Up Wearing Egg On Your Face!
by Ken Darby

A rookie police officer was out for his first ride in a
cruiser with an experienced partner. A call came in
telling them to disperse some people who were
loitering.

The officers drove to the street and observed a
small crowd standing on a corner.

The rookie rolled down his window and said, "Let's
get off the corner people." A few glances, but no one
moved, so he barked again... "I SAID, let's get off
that corner... NOW!"

Intimidated, the group of people began to leave,
casting puzzled stares in his direction.

Proud of his first official act, the young policeman
turned to his partner and asked, "Well, how did I do?"

Pretty good," chuckled the vet, "especially since
this is a bus stop!"

We often are so eager to please we get ourselves in
trouble. It is a hangover from our youth when we, in
lots of situations, wanted to please those around us.

Remember when you were first dating someone you
cared for? I'll bet you were pretty keen on pleasing his
or her folks, at the time.

As we get older we often take on a new job with real
gusto and enthusiasm that shows our eagerness to
please. In fact we are often like the rookie cop in the
joke above.

That's okay. That's part of life and living, yet there are
times when we should know better.

One of those times is when we first begin in internet
marketing. We want so badly to please our customers
it is not unusual to see people giving away the farm.

We get so eager to please we make promises we
cannot keep. We say things that are not correct and we
border on hype, if indeed we don't get right into it.

The mistakes of a rookie can be understood. Yet rookies
mature. If sales are still not forthcoming, as well as one
wants, we again slip into the condition of being too
eager, rather than get involved in research and look
for further markets.

Being too eager, for those mature in the way of things,
is often like getting caught with your hand in the cookie
jar, you end up with egg on your face.

In all the years experience I have enjoyed in and out of
the internet business I have found the calm, steady,
unceasing, dependable effort to be the "magic" formula
for success in any venture. Growth and progress comes
not from the sensational but rather because of all the
efforts gone before it. Each day is a new opportunity to
serve. That is where your success comes from.

Too Eager? You Might End Up Wearing Egg On
Your Face!

COMPUTER TIPS - - -
-------------------------

Minimize, Maximize, and Close buttons

These little buttons are found on every window in the right
side of the Title Bar. The minimize button is commonly referred
to as the "minus sign" but that's a kind of symbolic reduction
of the item's significance. The Close button is called the "X"
button. The buttons reside in order: Minimize,
Maximize, and Close.

Clicking the minimize button will fold up the window
that resides in the taskbar in button format.

The Maximize button is next to minimize, and its sole purpose
is expand the window to full screen.

After expansion, the button looks like a double set of maximize
buttons, one layered on top of the other. Click again, and the
window returns to its previously un maximized state.

Double click the Title Bar to maximize or return a window
to its previous size.

The close button will terminate your program or application. If
you haven't saved work, you'll be prompted with a message,
so don't worry about losing your valuables. If you see two sets
of "X" buttons, such as are common to word processing
programs, the lower set will close the document without
exiting the word processing program.

The Resize Handle is special.

It's that little area in the lower
right corner of a window that lets you, well, resize the
window! Vertical and horizontal dimensions can be changed
simultaneously using this handle. Pass your mouse cursor over
the resize handle, and it turns into a double-headed arrow.
Left click and drag the window to the size you desire.

Check your status with the Status Bar.

This is an overlooked part of a window that displays statistical
and other information. Things like the time, the size of a
selected file.

Turn the Status Bar on if you want to see it. The bar makes
up the bottom portion of an active window.

Check any window's View menu to see if an option for using
the Status Bar exists. Also, try right clicking the status bar
itself to see if any user configurable options exist.

Fats: The Good And The Not So Good
PART 4 of 8 (References will be at the
end of PART 8)

If You Are Confused About The Kinds Fats
That You Should Eat...Or Stay Away From,
This Information May Help.

Intake of omega-3 PUFAs has been shown to decrease
blood levels of Triglycerides and to increase the most
protective form of HDL ("good") cholesterol.(Ref 10 11 12)
Omega-3 PUFAs may also enhance circulation and
prevent the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. EARLY
CLUES FROM GREENLAND... The evidence of the
protective role of omega-3 fatty acids has been accumulating
steadily since the 1970s, when researchers investigated
the dietary habits of Inuit people living in Greenland.(Ref 13)
The Inuit were known to have a low incidence of CHD,
despite eating a high-fat diet (39% of calories from fat). From
this research, an appreciation has emerged that the type
of fat consumed is as important as, or more important than,
the amount. A study comparing the Inuit people with Danish
people revealed that, although the Danish diet contained
a similar proportion of fat (42% of calories), the Danes had
ten times the death rate from CHD, compared with that
among the Inuits. The researchers attributed this finding
primarily to the presence of high amounts protective
omega-3 PUFAs in the Inuit diet, in contrast to the high
amounts of saturated fat and trans-fatty acids in the
Danish diet. CLINICAL TRIALS SHOW A POWERFUL EFFECT....
The most compelling evidence of all comes from recent
clinical trials in humans. These studies have clearly
demonstrated risk reductions similar to those seen in the
major trials of cholesterol-lowering "statin" drugs. The authors
of the new review note that the participants in these trials
had one or more cardiac risk factors or early, undetectable
heart disease. They cautioned that studies of healthy people
are needed before large changes in the food supply or
widespread consumption of omega-3 PUFA supplements
can be recommended.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------

As the orphanage proper had no building structure, just
a roof, the only place to conceal anyone on the inside was
behind boxes and other things the kids had stacked up
to keep the wind and rain out when it blew.

The idea was to notify the kids in the orphanage of when
anyone was in the alley. It did not matter to the kids from
which direction they came because once anyone reached
the orphanage they all had to come from only one
direction to the orphanage from the alley.

The kids kept that area clean of anything visible during
the day. So anyone observing would certainly think they
would be able to sneak in undetected at night.

But at night the kids had some barbed wire they suspended
from poles at the rear of the property. If anyone wanted to
sneak in they would be able to do so without disturbing
this wire. But halfway between the alley and the orphanage
there was barbed wire strung out on the ground. Anyone
would run into it if they did not know the exact route to take.
This barbed wire was attached to the first row of barbed
wire at the alley, so if anyone disturbed this barbed wire
near the orphanage the wire suspended at the alley would
fall down onto the ground.

If anyone was moving in the alley the sentries were to flash
the red light, one short burst for each person. If the person
or persons were not recognized as regulars, they were to
hole the light on for a while after they had given the count.

All was set. The kids were ready.

Just in case the thieves or any thief had plans to rob the
orphanage in daylight hours the kids had plans for that too.

The sentries were posted all day and all night. Each took
their turn, for two hours at a time.

Again, familiar people in the alley were no worry, although
the light was flashed to show someone was passing. Most
folks who used the alley were only one at a time. If there
were groups the kids became especially attentive.

They had put boxes and junk behind the orphanage that
forced anyone entering to come through a narrow passage.
The walls of this passage were boxes containing a few
rocks and the like that would hold them steady in place,
but would allow the boxes to be pushed over into the
pathway.

In addition there were two open barrels of oil, inside the
orphanage, one on each side of the opening.

Suspended from the roof was a large net, used by game
hunters to capture animals.

The plan was simple. During an attack the sentries would
warn of people coming. That would signal the kids in the
orphanage to take their positions. If at night, two of the
kids would turn on lights directed at the barbed wire once
there was noise and confusion. Three or four others were
to take containers of oil and throw it at anyone caught in
the barbed wire. If anything further was needed the rest
of the kids in the orphanage would come to the action
by lighting and carrying torches, which they would threaten
to use to light the oil.

If the attack came during the day, the sentries would flash
the warning. Kids inside would take their positions behind
the boxes, inside the orphanage. A person would be
stationed to watch the passageway into the orphanage.
When the time was right that person would nod and the
boxes would be pushed into the passageway.

Besides that there were over a hundred little piles of
rocks, about two dozen in each pile. If attacked the
kids would be able to pick up the rocks and throw them
at the attackers. The mere volume of rocks that would
be thrown would overwhelm anyone with evil deeds
on their mind.

Feeling they had successfully taken care of any possible
occurrence the kids at the orphanage went about their
business as if nothing extraordinary was about to happen.
They felt quite safe with their plan, as kids are wont to do.

The days progressed as normal with the crowds moving
in and out twenty four hours a day.

On hot days the smell of sweating flesh got to be a little
much so the kids petitioned Riata. She caused the air
within the orphanage area to become fresh and refreshing.
It animated the crowds who, just being there, felt better.
She caused the air to remain this way all the time.
It was nice.
