TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Were there really Children's Crusades?

How could parents let their kids go off on a Crusade?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Are ravens and crows the same bird?

A raven is actually a type of large crow, with a distinctive
croaking call. So all ravens are crows, but not all
crows are ravens.

What were the Crusades all about?

The Crusades were a series of wars undertaken
by Christian Europeans between the 11th and 14th
centuries. The goal was to recover control of the
Holy Land, specifically Jerusalem, from the Muslims
and convert the area to Christianity. Some crusaders
really did see the Crusades as a strictly pious endeavor.
Others took up the cause as a way to gain land, power,
and money. (What else is new?) The First Crusade was
the only one to end in victory for the Christians. Their
armies took Jerusalem in 1099 and massacred many
Muslims and Jews. A "Latin Kingdom" of Jerusalem
then began, but it fell in 1291. The later Crusades
were primarily expeditions to assist those who
already were in the Holy Land.

BIZ TIPS
with John Colanzi
--------------------------------

A Lesson In Branding
From Muhammad Ali
by John Colanzi

What's in a name?

One of the newer catch phrases on the internet is
branding. In the 80's it was called positioning.

What does it all mean?

When someone sees your name they associate it with your
products or services. Hear the name Bill Gates and you
think software.

Is your name really that important?

You better believe it is.

I think I first started realizing the importance of
our names when I watched Ali after he'd changed his
name from Clay.

He always had a habit of mentally dominating his
opponents before they ever reached the ring. He'd get
them so worked up, that by the time the fight came
around they forgot all about their game plan.

They were so upset they couldn't even see straight.

Well, Ernie Terrell got the bright idea that the best
way to get Ali upset and throw off his fight was to use
every opportunity to call him Clay in the pre - fight
interviews.

Did Ali consider his name important?

Did he position the name Ali with the term the
"Greatest" for a reason?

Yes on both counts. He was a master marketer.
His product was himself.

So what was the result of Ernie Terrell calling him by
his former name?

Ali decided to spend the whole fight torturing him.

Every time Terrell was ready to be knocked out, Ali
would let up just enough to cut his face unmercifully.

The whole time he was torturing him, he would taunt.

"What's my name?"

"What's my name?"

He knew the importance of branding his name. So if
you're serious about your business, remember Ali and
you'll never have to ask, "What's My Name?"

How can you brand your name fast? I'll save that for
another article.

Wishing You Success,

Fats: The Good And The Not So Good
PART 5 of 8 (References will be at the
end of PART 8)

If You Are Confused About The Kinds Fats
That You Should Eat...Or Stay Away From,
This Information May Help.

Although people with lower risk have been found in some
studies not to benefit from increased fish consumption,
experts agree that people with increased risk of CHD can
benefit from eating at least two servings of fish per week. It
has been estimated that a high-risk person could reduce
his or her risk of CHD-related death by 40% to 60%,(Ref 14)
simply by eating 40 to 60 grams (approximately 1.3 to 2 ounces)
of fish per day. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PUFA INTAKE...
Omega-3 PUFAs and omega-6 PUFAs are known as "essential"
fatty acids because they are necessary for life but must be
obtained through the diet (i.e., humans cannot synthesize them).
Although no governmental body in the U.S. has recommended
specific intake levels, an expert panel of nutrition scientists
recently suggested an intake of 2.85 grams of omega-3 PUFAs
per day. (Ref 15) The British Nutrition Foundation recommends
an even higher intake (3.6 grams per day).(Ref 16) Current
consumption of omega-3 PUFAs in the U.S. falls far below the
recommended levels. The average American eats about 1.6
grams of omega-3 PUFAs per day, from all sources. The principal
sources of omega-3 PUFAs in the American diet are vegetable
oils and fish. DIETARY SOURCES... Fish highest in
omega-3 PUFAs include mackerel, Atlantic herring, albacore
tuna, chinook salmon, coho salmon, Greenland halibut,
rainbow trout, and Atlantic cod. Vegetable sources of
omega-3 PUFAs also exist, but the evidence is stronger
for protection from marine-source fatty acids. Plant sources
of omega-3 PUFAs include some legumes (soy, pinto beans),
nuts (particularly walnuts) and seeds, leeks, and purslane.
Vegetable oils (e.g., canola, flaxseed, soybean) are
a significant source.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

The kids had just come through a good day at the shrine.
The day had been a merciless hot humid one and now the
cool evening breezes were a welcome guest.

Nothing out of the ordinary had happened and things were
going on as usual. The events at the shrine were attracting
attention. Some were experiencing wonderful healing and
crying the song of joy and happiness.

The evening passed uneventful, and the following day
dawned cloudy with rain threatening.

No rain fell, however, and the humidity was stifling.

Then it happened.

Just around ten in the morning there was a huge racket
out on the street in front of the orphanage. Everyone in
the crowd turned to look, as did all the kids in the
orphanage.

Little known to them the red light was flashing five times
and then stayed on.

The warning met with little attention as the kids were
paying attention to the noise out front.

When the noise subsided the kids returned to inside
the orphanage to face five men with guns pointing at
them. No one was behind the men. They waved
their guns to herd the kids into a corner.

Many of the kids were frightened. They had left their
posts and had been fooled by the noise in the street.
The crooks were laughing. They had set up the noise
and it had worked like a charm. Right down to the last
youngster they had caught them all.

Some of the kids were cursing under their breath.
"Where was Riata?" some wondered.

One of the crooks singled out one of the larger boys.
"Show me the money." he demanded.

"I can't show you the money. It went out to the bank
early this morning. There is none left." he responded.

The crook swung the butt of his rifle and hit the boy over
the head. "Liar! Where is the money?" he demanded.

The kids in the corner, over seventy five of them,
gave a gasp, in unison.

This entire action caught everyone's attention, including
the crooks. Only the kids noticed the two sentries, and,
thank goodness, they had sense enough to watch the
crooks, and not the two sentries.

The sentries were sneaking in quietly to see what had
happened, to see if the kids got their warning. One look
inside and they had their answer.

Everyone's attention was now fixated on the boy who
was taking a beating at the hands of the crook beating
him with the rifle.

Slowly and quietly the two crept in to the orphanage.
Once inside, one reached for the rope that tied the net
up to the ceiling, while the other crept over to a barrel
of oil where a pot full was sitting in readiness. When he
had his hands on it he turned to face the crooks.

He made a noise and one of the crooks looked in his
direction. He yelled and got everyones attention. Just
then the boy at the rope released the net. It came
tumbling down to completely cover the crooks.

At the same instant the boy with the oil threw it at the
crooks. The other lad went for the oil pot that was
standing ready on the other side of the doorway and
threw it at the crooks as well.

A gun fired. The bang was terribly loud. The crooks
were hollering and trying to escape. The place was a
mess. The crooks were a mess. They were slipping
and sliding all over the place under the net. They all
lost their weapons.

The kids, as one, jumped on them. They kicked and
beat on them as if they were out for vengeance. Soon
the crooks just lay there and whimpered. It was over.

The kids all stood back to have a look. What a mess.

"Go get the police!" said one of them and an older
boy took off on the run. He knew exactly where the
police were at this time of day..

The scuffle, the gunshot, and the hollering disrupted
the affairs at the shrine. The crowds stood and watched
what was happening. They saw what the kids did and
they saw the crooks captured in the net.

Even the crowd was amazed. The ingenuity of the
kids impressed them.

"Good going guys. I watched you every step of the
way. You can be proud of yourselves. You did a good
job." said Riata, through thought to each of them.

They all looked up and smiled.

REPORT FOR: October 13/03 - DAY 283

Well, I had a wonderful time at my niece's wedding. It
was a terrific affair. She is considerably younger than I
and, so, the young generation had a whole new batch
of kids running around. What a joy to see life lived
from a kids point of view.

I was also happy with the newsletter being delivered
early this morning. This is the first time I have done
the fore planning and use of the autoresponder that
way. Now I know that so long as I put in the Pebble
I can program for a long time ahead. Maybe I can
get away for a holiday!
