How is the disease transmitted?
The good news is you can't get it from standing
near a cow or an infected human. You have to have
contact with infected brain tissue. The bad news is
that humans HAVE contracted the disease from
EATING cows. So far, human cases have occurred
only in Britain, Ireland, and France, but more than
eighty other countries have received cattle feed that
was infected. It's pretty gruesome, actually, but
modern farming practices permit the remains of cows
to be ground up and used to feed OTHER cows (are
we creating cow cannibals?) That's what made it
possible for the disease to spread so far, so quickly.
The US government claims that Americans are safe
because the US banned British cattle feed (Britain
is where the disease started) in 1988, as soon as
scientists speculated that the disease was transmitted
that way. US health authorities also say that they've
been unable to find a single infected cow in the
country and estimate the US infection rate at fewer
than one cow in a million.
Can animals besides cows contract mad-cow
disease?
Yes. The disease has shown up in both domestic
cats and zoo monkeys, which were receiving tainted
beef byproducts in their food, and was deliberately
transmitted by researchers to a pig. Other animals -
including mink, elk, deer, and sheep - can carry
similar diseases (together, these diseases are known
as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies).
Sheep, for instance, have gotten a disease called
"scrapie" as far back as 1730. But scrapie doesn't
seem to affect people and no one has ever gotten
it from eating mutton.

If You Meet A Guru On The Road ...

I remember a book I once read titled, "If You Meet Buddha
On The Road, Kill Him." The author didn't mean you
should actually kill anyone. He meant there comes a time
when you must think for yourself.
The same concept applies to all the gurus on the net.
Yes, you should learn everything you can from every
source.
The problem comes when you start blindly following the
gurus and stop thinking for yourself.
I really get sick and tired of emails telling me that
I'm going to get rich because Guru x, y or z has got
this new fangled program.
Brothers and sisters, let me tell you, there's no osmosis
involved. There's no guarantee that you'll get rich being
associated with anything but hard work.
Success isn't determined by who you follow, what program
you promote or anything other than blood, sweat and tears.
Gurus and experts are like a canoe. They're fine for
taking you across the water, but when you reach the
other side, it's time to let them go and think for your-
self.
You wouldn't have been given that powerhouse of a brain
if you were meant to let others do your thinking.
I think Thomas Paine said it best. "My brain is my
church."
Start worshipping your thoughts and ideas. Start
following your instincts.
The only expert in your life and your business is you.
You're the one who determines if you'll succeed or fail.
The buck stops with you.
Don't tell me what the guru is going to do for you. If
you want my attention, tell me what you've done.
Tell me what you've accomplished with your program.
Walk up to your mirror and say, "If it's to be, it's
up to me."
Start working on operation YOU!!!
Stop being a robot and start getting things done.
You can accomplish anything when you start thinking for
yourself.

Do You Have Trouble Staying Awake After A Meal?
This Might Be The Reason...
(Healthy Habits Aren't Convenient . . . They're A Choice.)

You want to avoid sugar spikes... This means a lot of sugar
is going into your blood stream through the digestive process
all in a short period of time. (Please recognise that the term
"sugar" is not what you are getting out the sugar bowl. This
term is the result of the digestive process in the stomach.)
You want to keep everything in your body functioning at a
nice steady pace. Why is that important? Because the sugar
spikes generate more insulin production and that is not in
your best interest. Having smaller meals is another
suggestion that also helps you from getting sleepy during
the day. And this explains why most people feel like
snoozing after a triple helping of Christmas dinner: a meal
traditionally full of starches and proteins, and fats. Also
make sure you eat at regular intervals so as to avoid
overeating at lunch. Again, you want to keep the digestive
system working as evenly as possible. I know several
people who eat one meal a day! And it has everything in
it! And then they fall asleep in front of the television! Also
make sure you stay "hydrated" throughout the day. In other
words, drink fluids... and lots of them! By mid-day dehydration
becomes more obvious and a common sign of this state is
inability to concentrate, sleepiness, and overall fatigue. If
you have ever taught a class of students, you will now
understand why they should be bringing in their water
bottles! It's very disconcerting to have people yawn as
you are trying hard to make them understand important
parts of a lesson. The easiest thing to drink is water...cold
or hot. And if you are trying to loose weight, I am told that
ice water is best. Brrrrr. BUT that's precisely what is
causing the weight loss...the increased metabolism from
the body trying to heat the water.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Good! When would you like to go?" he asked.
"Today is already too far gone. How about tomorrow?
Is that okay with you?" she asked.
"Sure, tomorrow it is. Hey! I'm looking forward to
this already."
Pam's mind went immediately into a fear set. She
wondered if her folks would welcome her back, if they
would be glad to see her, if they would welcome David
as their son-in-law. She hoped beyond hope they
would be happy to see all of them and that they could
have the regular family loving relationships. Tomorrow
would tell the tale.
She was thinking this might be too much to hope for,
but that is what she wanted.
The next day dawned cloudy and rainy. It was cooler
than usual so that much was a blessing, but the rain
really curtailed activity in the village.
It was a good day to go to Pinehill.
Pam held the baby in her arms, and David took little
Maz by the hand. In the flash of an eye they were in
Pinehill, standing on the sidewalk about a half block
from Pam's folk's place.
The day was a cool one with some snow on the ground.
It was the first time little Maz had seen snow. David
immediately put an envelope of warmth around them.
They were not used to weather this cool. He also
immediately dressed them all in clothing appropriate
for the place and time.
"I thought we would touch down a little ways from home,
Pam, so we could get acclimated and then walk up to
the house at our time and speed. I hope that's okay. I
sense your apprehension, and I wanted you to have a
little time to be prepared." David spoke.
"Thanks, honey. I think that was a good idea." Pam
responded.
They began to walk slowly toward the Hunter house.
Little Maz was stopping once in a while to play in the
snow. David showed him how to make snowballs and
throw them and soon the game was on.
As the approached the house Pam was scared. What
would happen. She hadn't seen her folks for a long
time. This was Thursday. Would they be home? What
would happen?
Suddenly the door flew open on the Hunter house.
Pam's Mother, still in a housecoat, came running down
the stairs, across the lawn and took Pam in her arms.
Mrs. Hunter was crying the tears of the joyful. So was Pam.
They hugged for near three minutes. Mrs. Hunter did
not want to let go. It had been a terrible ordeal for her
not to have her daughter around. She cried and cried
the guilt away, the loss away, the loneliness away.
"Oh, Pam! I didn't know if I would ever see you again.
I'm so sorry for that last meeting. Thank you, thank
you, thank you for coming home again." she sobbed.
"Hi Mom!" Pam cried.
"Are these your children? My, my, is this Maz? Hello
David, Welcome home." she went over and gave
David a hug, much to David's and Pam' surprise.
"Come, come. Let's get in out of the cold. Your
Father is inside. He'll be glad to see you. Come." Lynn
Hunter was beside herself with the thrill of seeing her
daughter again. She thought that last meeting a couple
years back would have driven Pam from them forever.
No such thing was going to happen this time. Not if
she had anything to say about it.
It had been quite some time since the churches were
up in arms with the Henrys. They had found their
congregations dwindling because of the hatred they
spawned with their "this is of the devil" talk against
the Henrys. Pam's Father had listened well and it
had cost him his daughter.
Eventually the Hunters lost complete interest in what
the pastor was spouting from the pulpit. The price
they had paid to listen to him had been too great. He
had caused too much pain. They left the church.
Bob Hunter was standing on the front porch when
Pam, David, the kids and Lynn began their way
into the house.
