The people in Nevada might like that, so they can
get a better view of the Pacific Ocean, but California
is NOT going to slide into the ocean. The San Andreas
Fault system, which crosses California, is the boundary
between the Pacific Plate and the North American Plate.
Earthquakes on the San Andreas Fault are a result of
the slow movement of the Pacific Plate northwest with
respect to the North American Plate. However, the
plates are moving horizontally past each other, so
California is not going to go off sailing. However, one
day (a VERY VERY long time from now), Los Angeles
and San Francisco will be adjacent to one another.
How did the ancient Chinese measure earthquakes?
The ancient Chinese actually developed the very first
seismoscope in 132 AD. It was a large urn covered
with sculpted dragon heads facing the eight principal
directions of the compass. Below each dragon head
was a toad with its mouth opened toward the dragon.
When a quake occurred, one or more of the dragon
heads would release a metal ball into the mouth of
the toad below. The direction of the shaking determined
which dragon released the ball. No one knows what
the inside of the seismoscope was like, but people
speculate that a pendulum inside would have activated
the dragons. Whatever was inside, it worked. The
instrument is reported to have detected an earthquake
400 miles away that was not actually felt at the site
of the seismoscope.

All Relationships Are Critical

Red Skelton's Successful Marriage Tips:
-Two times a week, we go to a nice restaurant, have a
little beverage, good food and companionship. She
goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.
-We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in Ontario
and mine is in Tucson.
-I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding
her way back. I asked my wife where she wanted
to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven't
been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested
the kitchen.
-We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.
-She has an electric blender, electric toaster and
electric bread maker. She said "There are too many
gadgets and no place to sit down!"
So I bought her an electric chair.
-My wife told me the car wasn't running well because
there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the
car was; she told me "In the lake."
-She got a mud pack and looked great for two days.
Then the mud fell off.
-She ran after the garbage truck, yelling "Am I too
late for the garbage?" The driver said "No, jump in!"
-Remember: Marriage is the number one cause
of divorce.
-I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first
name was Always.
-I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't
like to interrupt
her.
-The last fight was my fault. My wife asked
"What's on the TV?" I said "Dust!"
Red Skelton became one of the world's most popular
comedians. He did so because not only was his
material clean, but it spoke of conditions most folks
are aware of, like the joke above. There he is
speaking of one of our most important relationships,
marriage, or the relationship with our significant other.
Very nearly all of us will have a look at this joke and
have a laugh. Only he, on stage, could get away
with saying these things. Maybe that's what makes
it funny. If we tried it we'd get into trouble.
Yet he points out another situation, very subtle, most
of us overlook. All relationships are critical. That's
right! It is important to treat all relationships with all
people, including our enemies, with love. It is wise
to treat all other living things as if they were the most
important thing in our lives at that moment you are
in front of them.
Why, you might ask? Because it reveals your
innermost thoughts, that's why. The more you practice
being in love with everyone and everything you meet,
the more bounty, plenty and happiness comes your
way. Fail to practice this one thing and life is just
like most folks, a struggle.
One of the most successful people I know, is humble
enough to stop what he is doing, right in the middle
of a task, and will give you a hand, even without you
asking. I have always admired that man. Apparently
so does everyone around him for all boast about him,
customers keep coming back to him, staff would do
anything for him and his business just keeps
getting better.
All of this happens because this man looks at all
relationships as if they are the most important thing
to him at that and any moment.
The more you practice the more bountiful your life
will become. The more you practice the more genuine
those feelings become on the inside. The more you
practice the easier it becomes. The more you practice
the more others take note of you. The more you
practice the more nice things you notice about
others. The more you practice the more others
notice the nice things about you. The more you
practice the more people want to be around you.
The more you practice the more bounty and
happiness comes your way.

Let's see how they could be put to practical use in your body
and in your life through examples. As you have just read, the
Immune System is a series of protective mechanisms or systems
found naturally in your body. This protection is both internal
and external. It provides protection to the entire body, with
many "subsections". These protect you regionally (limb) and
locally (finger). Immune System keeps internal
(pathogens/disease-causing) and external (foreign bodies)
invaders from affecting your everyday life. (For ease of our
discussion, these invaders are called "free radicals".)
We will use the term Immune System "generally" to describe all
the protective systems of the body. This system is made up of a
variety of defense mechanisms including antibodies, which have
very specific functions. We also don't often think in terms of
the skin and digestive tract (mucous membranes, saliva, stomach
juices) spleen, etc.,) being connected to this, but they also
play very important roles. An example of the defense mechanism
with "local parts" is the inflammatory system or response. This
is one of the MOST important defenses you can have. Guard it
carefully. Here is a very simplistic explanation of the
"inflammatory process". You step on a nail. Immediately the body
recognizes this as an abnormal "invasion" and sends out the
inflammatory process to get rid of the invader(s). In this case,
it would be an increase of fluid, including large amounts of
white blood cells. This fluid will remain there until the
healing is complete or until some other process (antibiotics)
takes over. Then it stays to counteract the antibiotics
(drugs/chemicals). The volume of this fluid causes its own
problems as the pressure causes pain and distortion of the
area's anatomy. And when this process is also active in places
like the ear, brain, or eye, because of limited space, it will
cause additional problems. Its purpose is to wash the toxins out
of the area.
There is the body-wide response in the form of the lymphatic
system. As well, the immune system has many organs that will
either protect or not accept free radicals or intruders. Your
sinuses will protect you by filtering out certain chemicals.
Your stomach will "return" unwanted items. Your eyelids will
block out unwanted light. Your nose will make you aware of
undesirable smells and you can cover your nose or turn away.
Knowing we have such powerful protection available to us, it
scares me when someone calls and tells me that certain very
invasive procedures are to be done. On further questioning, it's
obvious that the symptoms are very uncomfortable or
debilitating. And that's fine, but WHY are those symptoms there?
What is your body trying to protect you FROM? From what you have
already read, wouldn't you now be asking a different question?

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

Bob Hunter was surprised by some of the conversation.
It appeared Sam and Alewka Henry knew more about his
children and family than he did. That Sam and Alewka
could travel at will made him a little jealous. They had been
to Pam and David's home. They knew where the kids lived.
They had seen the place.
He was wise enough to quickly realize he could look at
this two ways. He could kick his own butt for not being
wise enough to look into this further, earlier, or he could be and
remain jealous of the relationships Sam and Alewka had
with his family. He had some choices to make.
In this matter Bob Hunter had three strong motivating
factors he had to reconcile.
His first motivator was his pride. Bob Hunter was a
"man's man". He would bow to no man, and the idea of
saying he was sorry, angered him. He was one of those
men who never made a mistake. Whatever he did that
was wrong always had an outside reason. He never
claimed responsibility for wrongdoing. On the other
hand when he did things right, he sure wanted credit
for it. He was a replication of his Father, who always
functioned on the basis he was "king in his own house"
and should never be questioned.
So, according to Bob Hunter's pride, he should poke
Sam Henry in the nose for causing him all the grief
and loss of his daughter for so many years. Inside he
was seething at this, although right now, in Sam Henry's
home, he felt, strangely, completely at ease and his
pride was having difficulty mounting any kind of anger
or reaction to Sam.
The second factor Bob Hunter had to contend with
was, he lost his beloved daughter for over three years.
That left a hole in his heart. He could do nothing to
solve that and very, very deep down, his soul was
telling him it was his fault for getting angry that day
and throwing her out of the house. He had hurt her,
his wife and himself. Even though his pride would not
let him humble himself and apologize, he knew what
had happened. So, whatever happened from now on,
it was clear to him he did not want to cause any
separation from his daughter again.
The third motivating factor in Bob Hunter's life was
his wife Lynn. She, too, had missed her daughter so
much she very nearly moved out on Bob. Lynn had
read the "riot act" to him a number of times, and he
had no doubt he better keep his mouth shut if he
was angry or upset about anything concerning Pam.
Once more and he would lose, completely, all the
people important in his life.
When all was taken into consideration, Bob Hunter
was well aware his action would be to take charge
of his pride and himself dictate how he would react
to circumstances. He knew he would not, under any
circumstances, do anything to "rock the boat" over
Pam, her husband or anything regarding them.
Having made that decision Bob Hunter decided to
sit back and watch the people he was with, participate,
and genuinely try to be a friend to Sam and Alewka
Henry. He thought that he would then be giving
himself the best opportunity to fend off anything his
false sense of pride might throw at him.
Little known to Bob, his thoughts had all been
observed by Sam, Alewka and David. None of them
said anything, and each was pleased Bob had come
to the decision he had. Regardless of his motivation,
he had reached the right decision, one that would
foster more happiness for him and those around him.
"Bob, you have not been down to see the kids, in
South America, have you? Why don't you and Lynn
go down there on a visit. You will find it a truly
wonderful place for them to live. To tell the truth, if
we were not so firmly entrenched here, in Pinehill, that
is what I would do, too. I would move there and live
there all the time." said Sam
"David and Pam have already asked us, Sam. I think
we will. We were planning on it for quite a while but
didn't really know how to go about reaching them. David
tells me I should have come over here, that you would
have helped. But I thought, after all the things I had
done, you would be the last one to want to see me.
So I just stayed away." answered Bob.
"Don't do that again, Bob. You are welcome here at
anytime, especially if you need something, anytime.
Do not ever fail to ask, or come over. Never." Sam
Henry offered this statement like a command that
rocked the very roots of Bob.
"I won't forget, Sam. I won't forget. It took David here
to bring me over to see you once more. I'm glad
he did." said Bob.

One night, the Potato family sat down to dinner--
Mother Potato and her three daughters. Midway through
the meal, the eldest daughter spoke up. "Mother Potato?"
she said. "I have an announcement to make."
"And what might that be?" said Mother, seeing the
obvious excitement in her eldest daughter's eyes.
"Well," replied the daughter, with a proud but sheepish
grin, "I'm getting married!"
The other daughters squealed with surprise as
Mother Potato exclaimed, "Married! That's wonderful!
And who are you marrying, Eldest daughter?"
"I'm marrying a Russet!"
"A Russet!" replied Mother Potato with pride.
"Oh, a Russet is a fine tater, a fine tater indeed!"
As the family shared in the eldest daughter's joy, the
middle daughter spoke up. "Mother? I, too, have
an announcement."
"And what might that be?" encouraged Mother Potato.
Not knowing quite how to begin, the middle daughter
paused, then said with conviction, "I, too, am getting
married!"
"You, too!" Mother Potato said with joy. "That's wonderful!
Twice the good news in one evening! And who are
you marrying, Middle Daughter?"
"I'm marrying an Idaho!" beamed the middle daughter.
"An Idaho!" said Mother Potato with joy. "Oh, an Idaho
is a fine tater, a fine tater indeed!"
Once again, the room came alive with laughter and
excited plan for the future, when the youngest Potato
daughter interrupted. "Mother? Mother Potato? Um, I,
too, have an announcement to make."
"Yes?" said Mother Potato with great anticipation.
"Well," began the youngest Potato daughter with the
same sheepish grin as her eldest sister before her,
"I hope this doesn't come as a shock to you, but I
am getting married, as well!"
"Really?" said Mother Potato with sincere excitement.
"All of my lovely daughters married! What wonderful
news! And who, pray tell, are you marrying,
Youngest Daughter?"
"I'm marrying Peter Jennings!"
"Peter Jennings?!" Mother Potato scowled
suddenly. "But he's just a common tater!"
