What is a shamrock?
It's really just another name for the clover that is considered
the national emblem of Ireland. Legend has it that St. Patrick
once plucked a leaf of it for use in illustrating the doctrine
of the trinity.
What is Mardi Gras?
"Mardi Gras" is French for "Fat Tuesday," the day before
"Ash Wednesday" (the first day of Lent). Lent, of course, is
a time of spiritual preparation for the Christian holiday of
Easter that generally involves fasting, penance, and prayer.
Catholic tradition dictates that the forty days before Easter
be a time of restrictions. To prepare for this gloomy period,
people in the Middle Ages celebrated with wild abandon
in the days before. Mardi Gras, in effect, is the very last day
to celebrate before Lent. It marks the end of a carnival
season that began on January 6, twelve days after Christmas,
to commemorate the visit of the Wise Men to the Christ
child (this day is also referred to as "Epiphany" or
"Twelfth Night"). Mardi Gras is also known as
"Shrove Tuesday." During Mardi Gras, people dress
up in elaborate costumes, attend masked balls and
numerous parades, drink alcohol, and engage in
uninhibited celebration. During the famous Mardi Gras
festivities in New Orleans, partial nudity and wild
dancing are not uncommon.

PREVENTING BURNOUT

We get burned when we stay too close to the heat
source for too long. Wise folks move away before they
get burned, but, some are so focused on other
things that they fail to feel the heat! When the heat
finally gets their attention, they can barely crawl away
to safety. They suffer from burnout.
Too much, too little, too late, too long. Those are what
define 'burnout'.
TOO MUCH
You do and you do and you do. You are the one who
can be counted on to stay late, come in early, skip lunch
and pick up the pieces when others let them fall. In fact,
people begin to count on you to do just that! This is a
recipe for burnout.
You've read in my other articles that you are one-hundred
percent responsible for teaching people how to treat you.
Have you taught them to treat you like the safety plug?
Oh, and you thought that 'indispensable' was a sure-fire
strategy for promotion? Wrong. It is a strategy for burnout.
You thought that going the extra mile was just good
exercise. It's exhausting done daily. Save it for times
when you will be appreciated, not
taken for granted.
TOO LITTLE
I was working with a coaching client recently and she
said, "I've given my life to this company and my reward
is a pink slip." Oops! Mistake. She only has one life and
she needs to keep it for herself. Work is only a part
of life and it must be kept within the confines of values
and goals.
I don't know one person who has consciously set the
goal to be the first in the company to experience burnout.
Yet, paying too little attention to maintaining healthy
balance is the equivalent. Any good manager wants you
to be living a balanced life. Why? So that when a little
extra is required, it's available. If you're running as fast
as you can every day, you have nothing left for an
occasional sprint to a deadline.
TOO LATE
Sometimes you don't realize all that you are giving
until it's too late!
The greatest weapon you have against burnout is a
simple one. Gently pucker your lips, open your mouth
and speak that self-saving word. Whether it's work-related,
family-related or expectation-driven, you have to
learn to say 'NO!' before it is too late. You cannot be
all things to all people all the time.
Practice on small things. If a person asks you to go
somewhere that you do not want to go, thank them
for wanting to do something that includes you and
say, 'NO!". If you haven't tried this, it takes a little
practice...and no one has ever died from doing it.
Just practice. It gets easier. Remember, too, that
you never need to give a reason or an excuse.
A simple 'NO, THANKS!" is all that is required....with
a smile.
TOO LONG
The body and mind are resilient and forgiving....to
a point! You can push on through a whole night's
work and recover quite quickly in a day or two of
rest. No problem. Burnout occurs when pushing
becomes a lifestyle. Do more. Be more. Have more.
Rescue more. Work more. Accommodate more.
Push, push, push. The body simply cannot handle
the demand and the fuses blow.
A medical dictionary says that burnout is "An excessive
stress reaction to one's occupational or professional
environment. It is manifested by feelings of emotional
and physical exhaustion coupled with a sense of
frustration and failure." Those feelings come from
the blown fuses.
Physically, you can go into seeming meltdown. Your
adrenals are distressed. Your skin is rebelling. Your
stomach produces excess acid. Your sleep is disturbed.
Everything is stressed beyond reason and all you
want to do is crawl in a hole and pull the hole in
after you for a long, long rest.
GOOD NEWS! You can avoid all this. It's a choice.
So, if you recognize a too much, too little, too late, too
long kind of build-up in yourself. STOP! Choose
health instead.

The keyboard is your direct link to your PC, You can adjust
several settings to suit your preference:
1. Repeat rate: A measure of how many times per second
that characters are repeated after you've held down the
key long enough to begin repeating letters.
2. Repeat delay: A measure of how long you must hold down
a key before that character repeats.
3. Cursor blink rate: it controls how quickly the
cursor blinks on and off.
For these keyboard settings, choose Start, Settings,
Control Panel, Keyboard. Then, choose the Speed tab. You
then see slider controls for the three settings. Adjust them
for the speed you want.

Your body also recognizes every drug you coming into it (no
matter by what method) and wants to get rid of it. Every drug,
no matter how innocent or helpful, is made up of chemicals. So
think of all you take in, and, yes, that includes the wines and
other "spirits", the tobacco, and even "recreation" drugs, as
well as the cleaning aids we have in our mops, bathrooms, and
laundry rooms.
These might be considered pretty obvious "triggers" for the
immune system to start working, but others could something as
unusual as the insulation in your house or nail polish. If you
don't have a healthy immune system (abundance of anti-oxidants),
you are at the mercy of any and every negative condition in your
environment: smoke, air pollution, water pollution, etc., even
stress. Your body is not only physical...it has the emotional
and spiritual part of it and these are vital to its healthy
balance. And stress is a huge factor, but don't get caught up in
blaming stress for all your woes. That's easy to do and often
it's not a correct assumption.
For a time, it was widely assumed that infectious diseases had
been brought under control, especially in our industrialized
world. We now know that this is not true. The appearance of
AIDS, the huge increase in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
and the recent re-appearance of Tuberculosis (TB) are very real
and disturbing. As well, we also now have harmful microorganisms
that are resistant to at least two very powerful groups of
antibiotics. If you are exposed to these pathogens
(disease-causing microorganisms), your immune system might be
unable to protect you. This is the immune response
malfunctioning (overloaded) or not even existing any more.
We continue to use antibiotics to "cover" everything. We are now
discovering that this was just adding more problems. (This is
why you should not overdo the use of anti-bacterial soaps: most
people have no real need for them.) Every chemical going into
your body is seen as an enemy: a free radical.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"Well, Mr. Hunter, by the way, may I call you
Bob?" responded David.
"Certainly, David."
"Well, the more we use our abilities in front of people
who do not, themselves, use them, the more it looks
as if we are showing off. Soon they start asking us to
show them more and before long we are looked on
as magicians, a show, a performance. It becomes quite
counterproductive. So we travel that way only when
the need or practicality is there. Unless there were some
emergency, or other pressing need, there was no reason
to travel to the hardware store that way. Sam would have
ordinarily taken the car. Although, if he were alone and
unnoticed he may have gone to the store under power
of higher law." answered David.
"What you are afraid of is the people will start calling
for miracle?" asked Bob.
"Afraid, is not the right word, Bob. Experience has shown
that when people first come into contact with this experience,
especially when they are in groups, they tend to want to
see more and more. Everyone wants to be healed or
wants money. And they get angry if you don't do it. All in
all it fails to get the message across, and therefore is
pointless." David replied.
"But surely the people see?" asked Bob. He was becoming
full of questions.
"Bob, you are privileged. You have been given personal
attention by two of us, Sam and I. Normally that is the way
things work out best, with one on one discussion. This
is not the kind of thing you can teach in a classroom, or
in groups, because everyone approaches this with different
motives. If we set up a class to teach this I could, right now,
guarantee you one hundred percent would be there to
learn how to get more money. They would miss out on the
point of the training completely. The whole point here is to
live the life your Maker wants you to live. When you do that
you can have all that man wants plus much more, including
overcoming death. Each man must make up his own mind.
Those who try this because they want money, or some other
desire of man, will not achieve. You must leave the things
of man behind if you want a face to face relationship with
your Maker. Most men do not want to pay that price." David
replied.
"It seems like a lot." observed Bob.
"Only to those who do not think things through, Bob. To
the thinking man, he can envision the end result, while at
the beginning, and can therefore make the decision as to
whether he is willing to pay the price. Most stop when they
find they have to leave all worldly things behind." said David.
"Oh, here we are." said Bob as he drove into his own
driveway.
The men got out of the car and walked into the house.
The women, Pam and Lynn were still chatting away on
family things. The baby was down for a nap and little Maz
was playing in the living room.
"Well you two were away for a while! Everything alright?"
asked Lynn, looking to her husband for any sign or clue
of what went on.
"We stopped over to see Sam and Alewka Henry."
answered Bob.
"The Henry's?" Lynn said with surprise.
"Well, we finished our tour of Pinehill, and on the way
back David thought we should drop in to see if the Henry's
were home. They were. We had a great visit. That Alewka
can make a good cup of coffee." answered Bob.
"Well, tell me what happened! The last time you got near
to Sam Henry you were angry. What happened this time?"
asked Lynn, somewhat taken back by her husbands
visit to the Henry's.
Both David and Bob had smiles on their face.
"I know I was angry before, Lynn. But somehow, David
persuaded me to go over there. Sam was working in his
yard, out front as we drove up. I was a little concerned,
too, about the reception, but Sam was warm, gracious,
even loving. He shook my hand and somehow I knew
all was well. So we went in and had a real good visit."
answered Bob.
"You two are up to something. I saw your smiles." said Lynn.
"We both did." said Pam, "What are you up to David?"
