Cupid is the son of Venus, Roman goddess of love.
His Greek name is Eros (Mom's Greek name is
Aphrodite). Eros himself fell in love when he
accidentally pierced himself with one of his own
arrows. The object of his affection, the princess
Psyche, was so beautiful that Aphrodite was jealous
and sent her son to make Psyche fall in love with
a hideous, or at least a common, man. Aphrodite
did everything possible to make the Eros-Psyche
love match fail, but eventually the two married.
Did the goddess of love ever fall in love?
Sort of. Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love, had a
long affair with Ares, god of war. (Interesting choice,
huh?) She was not able to marry Ares because she
was forced by Zeus, king of the gods, to marry
Hephaestos, a lame god. The goal was to get her
married off quickly before her beauty caused fighting
to break out among the many eligible deities who
desired her.

FROM YOUR HEAD

Have you ever felt that you could really get something
wonderful and worthwhile done if you didn't have so
many things to do? Common thought.
Your mind is so cluttered with great ideas, current
projects, social obligations, long-term plans and
upcoming appointments that there is no room
for creativity. In fact, some days it seems amazing
that any thought can make it all the way across your
mind, doesn't it?
We become immobilized, unable to make progress,
even though we may be very, very busy. It's a paradox.
We are working as fast and hard as ever and still
we seem to be treading water. The shore never gets
any closer. That's because your mind works in strange
ways. It has no sense of past or future, so, that
everything you've ever told yourself you should or
could do, your mind thinks you should be doing right
now. So, your mind sets you up for failure.
I have been caught this way. It is so self-defeating...and
exhausting. So many great ideas for projects, businesses,
conversations, seminars all rushing around in there....all
chasing one another. So, I went looking for the magic
bullet that would put an end to my misery. I looked
in the obvious places: get a new organizer, a new
at-a-glance something that would keep me on track,
a new PDA to make everything work together; clean
the office, clear out the in-box. All were promising,
but none cleared the clutter from the inside, even
though my office was immaculate. Problem: clean
space but head still full. I only looked organized.
The search continued. Finally, a colleague told me
about some ideas he had been working from that
made a huge breakthrough in his organizational
thinking. OK. I'll try anything.
First key is to get all the ideas you have--and I mean
ALL the ideas--on to paper or into your computer.
ALL!! That is one massive mind dump. Every
thought, idea, plan, project, wish, want, need,
relationship, value...and then some. It's essential
to actually clear the mind of it all in order to
be able to focus on one thing at a time.
That's the beginning. Once you have every single
thing--idea, object or piece of paper--in your in-box
or in-bucket, then, and only then, you begin
to process. Cleanse first, then clarify.
Pick up each item from the in-dumpster. Do you know
what to do with it or about it?
Decide if it is actionable. What is the next action
step you need to take on each item? The best
organizing guru I know, David Allen* says that if the
answer is 'No!' then it's either trash needing to go,
something that might need to be done later (incubate) ,
or potentially useful information that might be needed
for something later. In that case, it's a reference piece.
Makes sense. You can now manage these three
categories. If the answer is 'Yes", you have to figure
out the next action to take. David Allen says then
you have to do it, delegate it or defer it. And the
system continues.
The first and most important part, though, is getting
your mind clear of clutter so that you can bring your
complete attention to the task at hand. You have
taken care of those fleeting thoughts. You've
captured them on paper or on screen. You have
decided on the next action step for each item.
Now, you're ready for action. Your presence of
mind will improve. You can easily bring your mind
to one thing at a time.
This is the key to being...and feeling...truly organized.
Stress is reduced. Focus returns. Clarity is restored.
You know what to do. You are back to being
productive and you're swimming in the right
direction. Great system!

If you have a lengthy document that uses fonts of
several different sizes, there is a little trick you can
use to increase or decrease all the various font sizes
by the same amount while maintaining the fonts' point-size
difference. First, press Ctrl+A to select all the text in
your document. Then, press either Ctrl+] (the close
bracket key) to increase all font sizes up a point or
Ctrl+[ (the open bracket key) to decrease all font
sizes by a point. This saves you from having to redo
each separate font size individually.

How To Get The Best
From Your Pharmacy
Often we use pharmacies for only one or two purposes,
but they are very helpful for many other things. Besides
the pharmacist, there are usually technicians to help
with questions and clarification. The technician assists
the pharmacist and handle the organizational duties.
They will call doctors' offices and check for completeness
and correctness of the prescription. However, the
pharmacist is the qualified professional, and you will
want to speak with him/ her for any special needs.
Many pharmacies carry a very good selection of printed
information. I discovered this by accident when one of
my students printed out an entire assignment, scanned
it, and handed it in as her own. Besides recognising her
for her creativity, she failed. But it encouraged me to
spend time in a few drugstores and sections of food
stores. They always have informative brochures on
many different subjects.
Most pharmacies have blood pressure machines and
explanations of the test results. So if you suspect
hypertension, check yourself out. There are drug
interaction posters and these are invaluable for
cross-checking your over the counter meds with
prescription drugs. In order for your pharmacist to
serve you effectively, you should tell them all the
meds you are on. Many pharmacies will collect the
unused portions of medications and dispose of them
for free. Medication errors amongst the older population
is very high and this prevents a bit of this.
Some pharmacies sponsor and organise indoor
walking programs. Many druggists have special
training in conditions such a diabetes, asthma,
osteoporosis.
So the next time you are near a pharmacy, look a little
closer. And get to know YOUR pharmacist. Keep all
your personal information in one location. This could
save your life!

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

He went straight to his quarters and to the shower.
Disrobing, he put his gown into a bag. He would
burn it.
He stepped into the shower and turned on the water
to bath. To his shock and pain the blood stains on
him boiled and burnt, just as they did when the Mayor
added moisture to the blood on him.
The Cardinal stepped out of the shower and quickly
tried to dry himself. That relieved the pain of the
burning, but the blood was still there.
He frantically scratched at the blood. That only
removed skin and caused more bleeding, but somehow
the stain of the blood went deeper. He could not get
it off. He was panicky. He ran to his wardrobe and
dressed. That covered most of the blood, but he still
had some on his face and hands.
Looking in the mirror he thought he would be able to
say he stumbled and fell against his desk. It left a blood
stain on his face. At least that is how he thought he
would be able to pass off the stain on his face. He had
some on his hand also, and he felt his new story would
cover that as well.
Feeling better, he sat down and poured himself a drink.
When done he walked back to his office. There he sat at
his desk and pondered the events of the day. This was
too much for him. He did not understand what was
happening. This woman was not dead, yet she was.
What was going on?
Reaching for the buzzer, he pushed it, to call his aids.
They did not come. He pushed it again in a series of
staccato beeps. This time the door to his office opened,
or so he could hear, and he heard footsteps approaching
his desk. He turned to face his aids.
They immediately put their hands to their mouthes
and turned and ran.
The Cardinal screamed "HALT!"
They stopped where they were but would not come back.
The Cardinal gave them some orders and they left.
Now what was he going to do? If everyone reacted to
him like this he would get nothing done. How could he
do his work?
He developed a firm resolve. No one was going to push
him out of office, not when he had worked so long to get
here. He would force them to do his work. He had the
Pope coming next week and that would solve everything.
He stayed in his office and plotted and planned.
In the meantime the Mayor was experiencing much the
same reaction from those he saw, or could see him. No
one would come near him, neither communicate with
him. He could not get anything done.
What was happening? There was only some simple
blood on his hand. How did that have such an affect
on people?
He went home. His wife reacted the same way, as if he
was the devil. His kids too. He could not understand. He
grabbed a bandage and wrapped his hand so the blood
would not show.
Just as he found his wife he thought things would be
alright. But she reacted the same again. "Stay away from
me. You are in league with the devil. Stay away!" she
said to him.
He looked at his hand and where the blood was the
bandage had burned through. The blood was still visible.
How was he to get anything done. He sat and pondered.
His mental extrapolations saw a future that had nothing
for him. No one would speak to him, he would be unable
to perform any work, his dreams of wealth were dashed,
even his family didn't want him. He went into a deep
depression. These thoughts were not welcome, but true.
He was doomed.
Walking over to his closet he took out a handgun and
checked the ammunition. He shoved it into the front of
his pants and pulled his shirt over.
He left the house and walked in the direction of the
Cardinal's office. As he walked along the street everyone
he met scurried away with their hands over their mouths
as if they had just seen the most grotesque creature of
their lives.
