Do You Think He Got The Point?

When the power mower broke and wouldn't run, I kept hinting
to my husband that he ought to get it fixed, but somehow the
message never sank in. Finally I thought of a clever way to
make my point.
When my husband arrived home the next day, he found me
seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair
of sewing scissors.
He watched silently for a short time and then went into the
house. He was gone only a few moments when he came
out again. He handed me a toothbrush. When you finish
cutting the grass," he said, "you might as well sweep the
sidewalks"
The doctors say he will probably live, but it will be quite
awhile before the casts come off.
Ahhh! The continual battle between the sexes. I laughed
at this joke mostly because it strikes too close to home. My
wife hasn't been out cutting the lawn with scissors yet,
but close.
I don't know why this kind of thing happens, but it does. It
seems like a guy gets a bit of a break from chores, and he
enjoys it, but the chores just keep piling up. Maybe he was
waiting for the right time to go buy a new mower. Maybe
he was trying to think of a place to take the old one for
repair, but one thing is sure, he was not on top of his
game.
Mother, too, as most ladies are wont to do, had certain
expectations about how her home should look, outside as
well as inside. What her motivations were, I am not sure.
Maybe she just didn't want the place to look abandoned,
amongst all her neighbors. Maybe it was a "keeping up with
the Jones" thing, who knows? But one thing is clear, she
was going to make a point.
I can just see it. When her husband came home, I don't
know how he could keep from laughing, knowing exactly
what she was up to. The idea of going into the house and
getting a toothbrush for her to sweep the sidewalk with
must have nearly killed him with laughter on his insides.
But he did it anyway.
At that point I think the laughter would have gotten to each
of them. The scene must have come right out
of Erma Bombeck.
Yet the joke, like all jokes, makes a point. Sometimes you
have to come at a subject from a different direction to get
your point across. Even if you have to be silly, like this
lady cutting the grass with scissors, you can get the point
across and have fun.
Think on that. If you aren't making headway with your
approach, try another one, from a different angle. Remember,
communication takes two to work. One is making the point
and the other is receiving it. It is the responsibility of the
speaker, or presenter to get the point across.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
Go Back And Wash Your Hands
- Says your mother and she is right!
Hand washing is your best protection against any
disease, infection, or unknown elements.
Don't you just hate it when you have to follow
someone out the washroom KNOWING they
haven't washed their hands! (And it's just as
important for guys as it is for gals.)
I recall following the president of a large company
out of the beautiful corporate washroom, knowing
she hadn't washed her hands and now we were
going congratulate a group of long-term employees.
It took a lot of restraint on my part not to say anything.
Apart from my social visit, we were also giving flu
shots to the hundreds of staff members. You can
bet the family farm that I talked hand washing every
chance I got to those employees!
Water alone does a great job, if you can't find soap!
Add a little soap and you way ahead of the game.
Your odds of getting what everyone else is generously
passing around are lessened considerably. It's not
sissy-ish to wash your hands. It just makes good sense.
Why pick up germs, pass them to your family, and
then get everyone sick? You don't have to make a
fetish out of it.
Nor do you have to use the special soaps unless you
work in a health center or hospital. Anti-microbial
soaps may cause you problems in creating sensitivities
and /or desensitising your body to the power of the
germ fighting agents in them. When you need them
to work, they may not, so avoid them unless you really
need them.
Wash your hands. Dry them really well. Apply a little
hand cream and you will be comfortable and healthy.

"Is that not what was happening in your own
home town, Shing LI? Isn't that what that man was
after when he was out to destroy your house?" Mae
was bringing her back closer to home, that she
might see it in her own village as well as where
she had just been.
"You are right. That is exactly what was
happening. He thought he could gain my house and
when I returned he knew that was impossible. His
anger, sponsored by greed, made him think that if
he could not have the house no one would, and that
meant specifically me. You're right. It is all
over. Does higher law take away these kinds of
reactions Mae?"
"No, Shing Li. Only you can control them. What
higher law does is teach you what happens from
your thoughts and actions. When you are clearly
aware that every thought and every action produces
results based on the law 'As ye sow, so shall ye
reap.' then you begin to change your own reactions
to produce the results you want. As a human you
still experience the regular run of emotions. Now,
under higher law, one must be ever aware of what
those reactions will bring."
"I think that is hard" Shing Li was again
looking at what she thought was a work load of
controlling her emotions.
"It looks hard, Shing Li, but it isn't. All
you really have to do is train yourself to ask
'What do I want out of this?'. When you ask that
question at every turn you not only become more
efficient at things, you also realize how easy it
is to control your emotions to manifest the
condition or thing you want."
"Oh! You always make it sound so easy."
"Shing Li. Let's say someone is attacking you
and you are afraid. The natural thing is to strike
out, or to run. What would happen if you just
stood still and with clear thinking avoided that
person's thrusts and jabs? What would happen if
you gained enough time to think clearly, calmly
and perfectly in that condition? Do you think you
could handle the situation better? Even if you
made the decision to run, don't you think you
could do that better from clear thinking than
running blindly motivated by the fear inside you?"
"When you put it that way, yes."
"Think on how the law will work for you in
that condition. If you respond emotionally you
will end up thinking ill of your attacker. Sooner
or later those thoughts will manifest somewhere.
Yet if you control those thoughts and deal with
the situation at hand, don't you turn the law in
your favor? In your country you have those who are
practiced in what is known as the martial arts. Is
not this lesson at the very core of those
teachings? Do they not ultimately teach that to be
centered and know you can handle any situation is
the real art behind martial arts? And don't they
teach to keep calm in the face of danger, to use
clear thinking rather than emotional reaction?"
"I don't know these martial arts. We have
fighters in our country who practice this calm you
speak of. It is because of what you say. Clear
thinking without emotion produces the best
results, always."
Mae turned to Riata and Abetta, both of whom
had been listening. "Abetta, I think it is time
for us to return home, or rather to the orphanage.
Shing Li's children will be missing her by now.
Riata, would you like to come? For that matter,
how about you Abetta? Would you like to see the
orphanage Reno and Amenti are now running?"
Both Abetta and Riata answered at once. "Yes,
that's a good idea."
With that all four of them were off. They
touched down on the ground outside the orphanage
in China where Reno and Amenti were in charge.
Maria Sanchez was there helping out as was Susan
and Psong.
As you might expect it was Wong Li who first
noticed them coming. She came running out "Mommy,
Mommy, you're back! Where were you?" She came
running so fast she couldn't stop. Shing Li
quickly reached out and picked her up in mid
stride, giving her a big hug. "I've been away
helping some people who were having a big fight.
They were trying to hurt one another real bad.
They needed Mommy's help and Mae's help and the
help of these two ladies here." Shing Li pointed
to Riata and Abetta.
The next to appear was Psong, with Tsung on
her hip. She came and handed Tsung to his Mother.
Mae walked up to Psong and gave her a big hug.
"Hello Psong. I hope that was not too long a
journey away. The kids seem fine. I hope they were
no trouble."

Well, the meeting my political friend took me to last night was
a sham, a farce. It was made to look important, but ended up
being a pat on the back session where the participants were
all patting themselves on the back to the exclusion of any real
purpose or meaning. Some folks conduct themselves in ways

is themselves. Too bad.
