--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What forbidden fruit did Adam and Eve eat?
Everyone THINKS it's the apple that Adam and Eve ate.
In fact, the Bible never identifies the fruit eaten by the first
couple in the Garden of Eden. It merely says the
"fruit of the tree" (Genesis 3:3).
Where did the buffalo roam in America?
Large herds of buffalo never DID roam North America.
Forget the song waxing nostalgic about the days when the
"buffalo roamed" this great country. The animals we think of
when we say "buffalo" were technically bison. True buffalo,
which have longer horns, roam Africa and Asia.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!

---------------------
Measuring Your Worth
by Rhoberta Shaler, PhD
It has been said that your worth can best be measured by the
benefits others have gained from your success. How do others
benefit from your gains?
An interesting exercise in self-awareness and self-esteem is
to list all the ways that you think others might benefit from
your existence. Be specific. The list will do two things: it
will help you realize the contribution you make to the lives
of others, whether you know the people or not; and, it will
help you to identify ways that you might like to offer more.
Often we hear about the importance of making a contribution
in this world. Just as with communication, so it is with
contribution: You cannot not contribute. The question is
"What are you contributing?" Do you make someone's day
brighter with a smile or a card? Do you remember a birthday?
Acknowledge an accomplishment? Remember to ask about
someone's concerns? In this fast-paced, I-want-it-yesterday
world, it seems even more important to remember each other,
think about each other, care for each other.
Sometimes I think we are endangered by our technology.
When I am on Seattle streets, walking at a Vancouver
Island pace, I am sometimes chilled by the breeze of folks
running by, looking at their watches. The other day I was
going to a meeting in a large office building that houses
many telecommunications firms. I approached the information
desk in the lobby to inquire about the room for my meeting.
The security guard, a man who himself looked endangered,
met my request with an abrupt, "We do not have conference
rooms. Who are you, anyway?" I explained who I was and
what the meeting was and he told me it would not be in his
building. I persisted, he made some calls and discovered
that there was a conference room but that the meeting I
wanted was not listed for that room. I said I would go up
and look for my colleagues. He panicked...told me I could
not do that. I said that I wanted to attend my meeting...he,
very angrily, said he would take me there because he did
not know who I was or what I wanted.
On the way up in the elevator--a very long way up, as you
can imagine--I asked him if the building had a security
problem. Was this why I was being treated this way? He
said it was none of my business. We reached the room
filled with my colleagues and they explained to him how
the room was booked. That, too, angered him. As he left
me, I wished him a better day.
What an incredible level of stress for him to live with each
day. What an incredible degree of suspicion his job
brought forth in him! You know the old adage, "When all
you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Well,
he personified it! For folks living with this degree of fear,
we can offer them understanding without letting them
run us over, can't we?
We have the opportunity of being the light in someone's
day, of adding to someone's pleasure or adding to his
or her pain. We can make things easy or difficult. We
can collaborate or compete. We can put our own needs
above those of other or we can help others get what they
want first. There are no rules, of course. It is important,
however, to be conscious of how our choices affect others,
and, of how others benefit from our existence. Even in
tiny ways, we make a difference.
Today, before you say or do anything, take a breath and
ask yourself, "Will this make the contribution I want to
make to this conversation, relationship, business deal,
etc.?" If the answer is yes, proceed with assurance. If the
answer is no, you'll have consciously given yourself the
opportunity to do it differently. Choose well.

Can't Sleep? Read Your Food
Package Labels
Either you will fall asleep very quickly or you will be
jolted awake for the rest of the night!
In most states and provinces, legislation covers
what needs to be on the packaging - such as the
ingredients amounts of carbohydrates, fat, the
manufacturer, the "best before" date - things we
now take for granted, but it wasn't always like this.
But that won't cover YOUR particular needs and we
all have them. For instance, if you have kidney
disease, your doctor might restrict your protein
intake. So read what's in a bagel. Did you really
think a BAGEL had protein in it? Check your
dietary recommendations and the amounts of
daily allowances. You can enjoy the bagel, but
you would need to adjust the rest of your food
intake. Need extra fibre? The read the package
labels. Discover the taste of humus - it's really
delicious and as a spread on crackers, it's great.
And the fibre comes along as a bonus!
Salt restrictions in place for hypertension or some
of the degenerative conditions such as Meniere's?
Read the labels and wash the contents, or
substitute some spices.
Visit some of the food company sites. They have
all kinds of ideas and current recipes. They even
suggest cutting down on the amount of fat in their
own mixes! Do watch the "pre-packaged foods" as
they often need the additives and other chemicals
to make their products work. Become creative and
go back to some basics.
If taking back control of your health is part of your
new life plan, one of the easiest ways to start is to
read labels. If you want your body to work effectively,
you have to give it the right fuel. Not sure? All it takes
is a little education and a big desire to change your
past results. Bon Appetit!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
"It does, Psong" said Mae. "The day is still
fairly young, why don't you and I take a walk?"
"Okay!"
With that the two of them got up and began to
walk toward the steps.
"May we come?" Tlang was anxious to go with
them.
Mae turned around and calmly, lovingly spoke,
"Tlang this is kind of a thing I want to do with
Psong alone. I will do this with you one day too.
But for now, would you please stay with Shing Li
and help look after the kids? I would really
appreciate that."
"Oh! Okay." Tlang was disappointed but put
more emphasis into her words than what she really
felt. It was quite plain to all around.
"We'll be back before long. We won't be
staying away three or four days like we did the
last time. Don't worry." Mae was letting her know
of the time line.
Mae and Psong walked down the steps and rather
than go into the village they headed toward the
rice paddies. As they looked out over the fields
they could see the villagers in their own little
paddies working away. All were wearing large flat
style hats that came to an abrupt peak at the
center. All were bent over from the waist, working
in the water with the rice. All were barefooted,
and nearly all wore black slacks and white shirts.
It was as if it were a uniform of the village.
Mae and Psong walked along casually. They were
speaking of the things that had happened in the
last few days. Mae was inquiring about what Psong
saw and learned at the orphanage, while she and
Shing Li had gone to Matto Grosso.
Psong told her of the events at the orphanage.
There was nothing spectacular, but life was
somehow simple and enjoyable. Psong said the meals
seemed to arrive as if by magic, then she realized
it was Reno, Amenti and Susan who manifested the
food. Later on Maria came and helped. The only
thing that happened that was out of the ordinary
was that one of the children had fallen down the
bank and into the stream that was flowing beside
the orphanage. She had no trouble with the water
but on her way down she brushed over a broken tree
root that was sticking out, ripping her leg wide
open. It was dirty and bleeding badly.
Psong told Mae of how Amenti came and helped
the child out of the water and standing her on top
of the bank faced her with both hands palms toward
the child, broadcast love. The child was made
whole in that instant and no longer had the gash
in the leg, the dirty wet clothes from the stream,
or the pain.
"Do you know how all that happens, Psong?"
"Yes. I watched. I know Amenti saw the little
girl as being whole. He sent energy unto her and
believed she was the same little girl she was
before she fell. That is who she became."
"Thats about right. Do you know you can do
that too? That it is the right of all men and that
any man, woman or child can do that? It is a
matter of how one decides to live one's life. It
is a matter of what one decides to believe."
"I have watched you Mae, and I have watched
Susan. I know this is true, but I am not sure I
can do it."
"Psong you of all people are qualified for
living by higher law. I have not seen anyone love
their fellow man as deeply and truly as you. You
seem to have a very deep seated understanding of
man and his weaknesses."
"When I was in a deformed body they were mean
to me. They would tease, taunt and even hurt me.
They would take my food, break my house and even
beat me. I could do nothing for there were always
too many of them. They did not do this while they
were alone. That was the worst part. When they
were alone they would pass by without even looking
at me or speaking with me. They would sneer and
let me know how they detested me. There was a time
when that went deep into my soul and I hurt. Then
something happened. From deep inside I could see
they knew not what they were doing. I could see
the fear they had in their eyes of something or
someone different than them. I was shown how to
love them in spite of themselves. That is what I
did. When you gave me back my perfect body the
whole village was not only surprised but afraid.
Now I might be in a position to seek retribution.
They were afraid of me. It is good that Shing Li
took me in. She was far enough away from the
village that I was no longer a daily present
threat. Yet I continued to love them. They do what
any unthinking man and woman would do."
"That is true and you are the better for the
lessons you learned then. Were you aware that your
Maker, within, was looking out for you even then?"
"Yes. There was some force I knew not that
somehow had food there for me and looked after
me."

but it takes up time and that means I will be at it tonight as
well. Just another busy day. She will then be going over to stay

One of my first assignments as a trainee in an auto-body shop
was a car needing a new fender and some door repairs.
I spent hours doing a perfect job, but when the owner came
to pick it up, he wasn't pleased.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
Pointing to the side of the car, he complained about the
paint not matching, uneven gaps between panels, and a
host of other problems. He demanded an explanation.
"The repairs were to the other side," I noted.
