TITLE ARTICLE - - -
-----------------
Around The Net
Here is the continuation of our article from Monday. It
is a direct excerpt from Media
How the pieces fit
All of these pieces will contribute to the new world
network:
The Web. In 1994, it was static and slow. Most people
dialed in from a PC and clicked on text or graphics. Since
then, Sun Microsystems invented Java a programming
language that can make a Web page become an
interactive game or work tool. Macromedia made Flash,
which helps bring multimedia to the Web. Little by little,
homes got high-speed Internet connections cable
modems or DSL until, as of July 2004, half of all
homes with Internet connections had broadband.
Broadband brought video and music to the Web and, in
turn, helped persuade media companies to create digital
content, record labels to sell downloadable music on
services such as iTunes, and movie companies to sell
downloadable movies on Movielink and elsewhere. So
entertainment is becoming digitized and ready to send
anywhere.
Infrastructure. Behind the Web, companies built
infrastructure that stands ready to do much more than
just run Web sites.
Orbitz started out as a site for selling airline tickets. It has
since constructed a massive database of travel information
and user preferences and a transaction system that can
handle millions of purchases a day, says Chris Hjelm,
Orbitz's chief technical officer. Now Orbitz can build on
that, creating new kinds of services perhaps like
Travel Butler at a low cost.
"We'll just continue to leverage that power," Hjelm says.
One example that shows a glimpse of the future is Orbitz's
Deal Detector, which monitors changing airfares on a
particular route for a user.
Google, Amazon.com, eBay, Yahoo and other big Web
players have built similarly turbocharged systems
powerful engines waiting for those companies to step on
the gas. Amazon.com did exactly that on Sept. 15, when
it unveiled A9, its new search engine. A9 meshes the
personalization capabilities Amazon has built over the
past decade with Google-style search, taking a step toward
delivering more useful information.
Hardware. Just think of what's been developed in the
past decade. cell phones with cameras. BlackBerry e-mail
devices. Pocket PCs such as Hewlett-Packard's iPaq.
Music players such as the iPod. And $500 PCs with more
power than anything that would cost 10 times that in 1994.
All will play a role in the world network, helping messages,
content and services reach users wherever they are.
Software and more. Advances in software such as XML
coding lets Web sites exchange information with each
other automatically crucial for something like Travel Butler.
Wireless networks, whether new high-speed cell systems
or Wi-Fi, enable information to follow people. Meanwhile
GPS and cell phones that can pinpoint the user's location
can help the network deliver information based on where
he or she is.
RFID is beginning to let inanimate things identify themselves
wirelessly. It might be the most profound new piece of this
world network. On Monday, IBM said it will spend $250
million to develop its RFID business. Companies are
increasingly putting RFID tags on products. The tiny tags
hold information about the items they are attached to,
constantly pinging the network with radio signals It's the
beginning of the network's ability to know not only where
you are but what's around you.
Take your handheld wireless network device into your
pantry 20 years from now, and it might instantly know all
the items there and deliver a list of recipes you could make
from the ingredients.
"We are beginning to give the gift of information technology
to objects," says Ferguson.
Better economics
One other factor makes tech experts optimistic about this
next phase: The economics in place are 1,000 times better
than 10 years ago, says Internet pioneer Marc Andreessen.
"If you launch an Internet business today, it's probably going
to cost you about a tenth of what it would have cost five years
ago, but you're going to have 10 times more consumers you
can address and probably 10 times the ad revenue,"
Andreessen says. "And people are going to be 10 times
more willing to buy online. So you have this big economic
swing" in favor of a next wave.
Around the tech industry, companies are working on
embryonic versions of the next-generation world network. It's
a priority at AOL. When the online service looks at its future,
it sees itself detached from the PC a brand that transcends
any one technology.
An early example is Radio@AOL. It started as 175 channels
of commercial-free music you could hear only when signed
on to AOL through a PC. Thanks to a deal announced in July
with wireless-networking company D-Link, AOL members can
now use a wireless router to get and stream Radio@AOL
directly into their stereos without going through the PC.
The idea, says AOL's Hook, is to let users break off pieces of
AOL. Maybe a user will listen to Radio@AOL through a cell
phone or handheld computer while walking. AOL's photos,
e-mail, news and other features will go through similar
transformations. "We want users to be able to create an
ecosystem of devices and put the AOL experience on
them," Hook says.
On a business level, AT&T and Grand Central have started
offering a system that can connect Web sites and services
and let them share data. That would be necessary for
companies that want to offer a service such as the fictional
Travel Butler, says Grand Central's Minor, who previously
co-founded tech news site CNet.
Motorola is aiming its whole corporate strategy at what it
calls "seamless mobility." The company wants to make both
the wireless gadgets and infrastructure to allow information
to follow you anywhere, switching between wired, Wi-Fi and
cell networks without you having to do anything.
"The big change is going to be when the Internet follows you,
not you trying to follow the Internet," says Motorola CEO
Ed Zander. "It's just there. Your life is just affected the way
it's affected today by the lights in a room."
"We're at an incredibly exciting place," says Macromedia's
Ramadan. "The kinds of products and services we'll see in
the next five years will make those of the past five years
look like child's play."

Why All Vitamins Are NOT the Same
PART 1 of 4
In health discussions, I am frequently asked why all
vitamins are not the same. They arent any more than
other things. There is so much confusion and hype
about vitamins that it might help to get some basic
understanding on what can influence the differences.
Three ideas that come to mind immediately are
terminology, purpose and costs.
Generally, vitamin is the term that we tend to use in
our everyday conversations. We could be referring to a
true vitamin, a mineral or to the overall comprehensive
nutritional supplement. Mostly likely we mean
nutritional or dietary supplements, unless we are
purposefully using the proper medical terminology. Here
is what Mosbys has to say about vitamin
it is an
organic compound essential in small quantities for
normal physiological and metabolic functioning of the
body. With few exceptions vitamins cannot be
synthesized by the body and must be obtained from the
diet or dietary supplements. No one food contains all
the vitamins. But our bodies need much more than just
than just vitamins.
All supplements are not alike! All vitamins are not
alike just as one coffee is not the same as another. We
know they are not. We have our favourites. You can buy
orange juice made from concentrate (You just need to
add water). Or you can drink freshly-squeezed orange
juice. Now you can buy orange juice that comes not
from concentrate. All these choices are about orange
juice, but they are definitely not all alike. If you
think about diets
there are many different ones and
each represent a particular purpose. So terminology is
important. When you realise the importance of nutrition
for your body and its source, choosing an effective
product now becomes much more critical. You want value
for your health investment. This is more than just
going out to buy your weeks groceries.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
Pinehill was rocked to its very core with the
explosion. Windows within a mile of the blast were
broken.
People near the blast were hurt, crying,
screaming, bleeding and some with broken bones.
Some were blinded and some made deaf.
Right in the center of the block on Main
Street, across from the Pinehill Sound, the local
sporting goods store had blown up. The walls were
demolished the roof caved in, that part of it that
had not been blown into the next block, and the
place was a burning inferno.
Across the street at the Pinehill Sound many
of the workers were injured with flying glass. The
heat was so intense from the fire the staff had to
evacuate the building. Darryl Sparks, the
editor/publisher was hit in the arm by a concrete
block that had blown across the street, through
the window and onto him. It hit with such force it
broke his arm in three places, knocked him down
where he hit his head on a desk, knocked him out
and broke his nose.
The panic that set in immediately was amazing.
The screaming people ran from their desks out the
rear of the building, leaving the editor lying on
the floor, bleeding.
Fire trucks and police were now converging on
the area. Sirens could be heard from every
direction. Ambulances were on the way as well and
the Police Chief, without even seeing what had
happened, knew the explosion was large enough to
cause a disaster larger than what Pinehill was
equipped to handle. Before leaving his office he
called the Philadelphia Area Disaster Control
Office and asked for help.
Police and firemen cordoned off as much of the
area as they could. It was difficult for the
effects of the explosion reached three blocks in
all directions. The first order of the day was to
get all the people out of the area. They had to
begin going into all buildings they could get into
to see if there were injured people, unconscious
people who were unable to help themselves.
The blast got the attention of the Henrys, the
Strikers, the Whites. All of them converged on the
scene, instantly. The firemen and police tried to
move them out of the way, but to no avail. Each
broadcast love unto all, to energize them. Then
Ben, Sam, Tim, Tom, Billy and Jim all went into
burning buildings. The firemen and police were
aghast. Try as they might they were unable to
prevent these people from going into danger.
The rescuers knew, of course, there was no
danger to them. Each had picked a building where
they knew full well there were people still in
them.
Each, as they found people, would bring them
out, shielding them from heat and gases as they
did so. The group went from building to building
finding those who could not move, either because
of injury or fear. Bringing these people to safety
and then going back for more was an act that
astonished firemen and police. They could not get
into these buildings, even with their equipment,
because of the heat. To see this rescue go on so
successfully, put them in awe of the rescuers.
Sam, Ben and the rest would bring people out
and the firemen would take them to aid stations
set up by the girls. Alewka, Helen, Hilda along
with personnel from the local hospital had
established a nursing station to which those
rescued were brought. They helped cause them to
become whole again, and broadcast love that their
hearts and minds were made whole as well.
Sam brought in Darryl, lying unconscious in
his arms. He gave Darryl to the attention of
Alewka. She went to work. Standing at Darryl's
feet she broadcast love and energy unto him, then
demanded he stand and take heed.
Darryl moved, slowly at first, but then with
increasing energy. He finally stood in front of
Alewka Henry. He was perplexed. He could not
remember what had happened. He didn't even hear
the noise from the explosion because he was hit
and down before the noise hit.
Alewka looked lovingly at him and told him
what was going on and what had happened to him.
Darryl was bewildered. He couldn't believe it.
If it wasn't for the noise and pandemonium
surrounding him he would not have believed Alewka.
He stood calmly and watched. Tom brought in a
little girl, with her doll. She was terrified and
crying. Hilda White took the child and immediately
sent love unto the child. It helped. The child
told her that her Mother was still in the
building, as was her brother and their little dog.
Ben was nearby. Hilda called him over and
explained what the little girl said. Ben then
caught up to Tom and the pair of them re-entered
the burning building. They had been forewarned the
building had now been burning long enough it was
likely ready to collapse.

--------------------
The Pope met with his Cardinals to discuss a proposal
from Ariel Sharon, the leader of Israel. "Your Holiness",
said one of his Cardinals, Mr. Sharon wants to challenge
you to a game of golf to show the friendship and
ecumenical spirit shared by the Jewish and Catholic
faiths."
The Pope thought this was a good idea, but he had never
held a golf club in his hand. "Don't we have a Cardinal
to represent me?" he asked.
"None that plays very well," a Cardinal replied. "But," he
added, "there is a man named Jack Niclaus, an American
golfer who is a devout Catholic. We can offer to make him
a Cardinal, then ask him to play Mr. Sharon as your
personal representative. In addition, to showing our
spirit of cooperation, we'll also win the match."
Everyone agreed it was a good idea. The call was made.
Of course, Niclaus was honored and agreed to play. The
day after the match, Niclaus reported to the Vatican to
inform the Pope of the result. "I have some good news
and some bad news, your Holiness, " said the golfer.
"Tell me the good news first, Cardinal Niclaus," said
the Pope.
"Well, your Holiness, I don't like to brag, but even though
I've played some pretty terrific rounds of golf in my life,
this was the best I have ever played, by far. I must've
been inspired from above. My drives were long and true,
my irons were accurate and purposeful, and my putting
was perfect. With all due respect, my play was truly
miraculous.
"There's bad news?", the Pope asked.
"Yes," Niclaus sighed. "I lost to Rabbi Tiger Woods
by three strokes."
