TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What Dr. Seuss book was written to win a bet?

Why are the buttons on men's and women's clothes on
opposite sides?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What really happens to the mermaid in Andersen's classic
fairy tale "The Little Mermaid"?

Alas, it's not a happy ending for the young mermaid in
Andersen's tale who gives up her voice for a pair of human
legs and the chance to make a human prince fall in love
with her. The prince does not fall in love with her and she
dissolves into sea foam.

Did Hans Christian Andersen have children?

Surprisingly, one of the world's most famous children's story
writers had no children of his own. Andersen, who died in 1875,
never married. Another interesting fact: Andersen received no
formal education until he was nearly twenty years old. He grew
up in the slums of Denmark in the early nineteenth century and
lived in poverty much of his life. Another famous children's author
who never had kids was Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel). On the
subject of children, he reportedly said,
"You have 'em, I'll amuse 'em."

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

The term "The Big Apple" was coined by touring jazz musicians
of the 1930s who used the slang expression "apple" for any
town or city. Therefore, to play New York City is to play the
big time - The Big Apple.

TITLE ARTICLE - - -
-----------------

The Road To Inner Peace Is
Not Through The Stomach!
by Ken Darby

I am passing this on - - - It is definitely working for me.
I think I have found inner peace.

I read an article that said the way to achieve inner peace
is to finish things you had started.

Today so far, I finished two bags of potato chips, a cherry
pie, a bottle of wine and a box of chocolate.

I feel better already!

Pass this along to those who need Inner Peace.

I will not, here, go into any long dissertation on how to
find inner peace. What strikes me most about this joke
is it comes tooooooo close to the truth.

I find myself, almost daily, amazed at the number of folk
who think inner peace comes from some material object
or food. It seems they "feel" better when they have eaten,
or bought a new car, a new dress, a new suit, or painted
a room, or got new closet doors.

I wonder why they don't think about being thankful for
what they have? Or about forgiving those whom they feel
wronged them? Or forgiving themselves for the mistakes
they have made.

I wonder why they don't just sit down, have a look around
and "accept" who and what they are? I wonder why they
don't become calm of body and mind and go inside to
find the real peace and strength that can come from within?

I wonder why and how such a joke can even exist. It
reveals a condition of man for which man should take
no pride. But, then, all jokes come from the truth of the
human condition. That being said it is still wise
to consider...

The Road To Inner Peace Is Not Through The Stomach!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

What If…You Really Believed You
Could Feel Well Again?
PART 5 of 10

Anhydrous-ammonia actually kills most living things in
the soil while the surfactant allows the life to flourish.
Construction companies building airport runways use
anhydrous-ammonia fertilizer to kill the earth before
they pour the concrete. Makes a good hard base. This
Amish Farmer recognized his good when it came. To
him it was obvious. He has asked for a solution and
God gave him a good one. So, he used the surfactant
the next year. Since his earth was more alive, minerals
were more easily absorbed and the natural ecosystem
returned. In fact, the second year his crop was bigger
than ever and his gross income from the corn was now
the best it had ever been. He was making more profit
than ever before. His neighbors, however, continued
to struggle. They did not recognize the good the
Universe was offering them.

Some Lessons Are Hard

Corn prices remained steady while the costs of fertilizer
and insecticide continued to rise. The neighbors stopped
looking for soap suds, but they found it difficult to see the
reason for the Amish farmer’s success. They blamed the
weather. They blamed the oil companies. They blamed
the government. They hoped it would be better next year.
But they discounted their friend and refused to use the
surfactant. Even though he offered to help them get started.
Why? Because they had a vested interest in opposing
his solution. They had ridiculed him. Now their egos
were on the line.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

Hemno was now a fourteen year old boy with his
attentions being run nearly completely by his
developing body. He was lost in a world by himself
where he was neither a man, nor a boy, but had
these feelings going through him that offered him
embarrassment.

Sonora, Kenyata and Mombudo, the folks with
whom he lived, were well aware of the changes he
was going through. He would spend much time away
from the family, in the bush or down on the
plateau below the house. There he would do the
things most young men do.

Hemno found it hard to communicate with the
family, or, for that matter, with other members of
this African village. As with all young men all
over the world this was an awkward age, made the
more so in his case because he wore only a
loincloth that revealed things his body was doing,
and over which he seemed to have no control.

Sonora, his mentor, tried to keep his mind on
all the things she had taught him about higher
law, but it was to no avail. The chemistry
coursing through the veins of Hemno now controlled
his every thought.

Such was the way in Africa. It was now time
for him to leave. It was the custom when boys
reached this age that they be sent out on their
own to hunt and to learn to survive by themselves.
It was not a harsh thing, but a "coming of age"
thing.

The whole idea behind this practise was
twofold. First, it removed the boy from the
village and from the young maidens who were
similarly afflicted, thereby keeping the village
from having to raise children from relationships
that were not according to custom. Secondly, it
gave the youth time by themselves to explore their
own bodies, their own minds, their own
capabilities. To survive in this land, alone, was
a feat, even for one who was used to it. When one
returned after the prescribed time it was clear to
him and to everyone else that he had attained
manhood and was now to take his place in village
affairs.

Now was Hemno's time. Kenyata and Sonora
prepared a "lunch bag" for him. It was a piece of
leather in which they placed a few personal
articles that would remind him of home. It also
contained a new knife, something he would have
much use for on his journey. It contained some
cord, ripped up pieces of cloth and a gourd.

Mombudo had gone into the bush three days ago
and had now returned with a fine staff. It was cut
from a tree branch that was as straight as an
arrow. It was tough and would be useful to Hemno.
On the staff Mombudo had taken the time to carve a
decoration and Hemno's name. He had drilled a hole
right through the staff, at the top, through which
he had inserted a leather thong. It draped down
about a foot on each side of the staff and tied so
it formed a loop that was threaded through the
staff. Mombudo gave it to Hemno, displaying much
affection in doing so.

Hemno looked at what he had been given and was
much taken with the gifts. They were symbols of
manhood. He would need each item on his journey.
He looked forward to this with some misgivings
mixed with a desire to get at it. These gifts he
had received, he knew, were the symbols of
manhood, but not yet earned. When he returned,
sometime within the next year, he would then have
earned them and truly they would be his.
In the household it was both a day of pride
and sadness. They were glad, happy, Hemno had
reached this age and was, standing tall, ready to
proceed with all that was expected of him. Yet is
was the end of an era. They would no longer have
the young boy in the household, the one who
contributed so much joy and laughter.

So Hemno, having said his goodbyes began to
reluctantly move away, down toward the plains
below. He stopped and looked back twice. Then,
finally, waving, he took up the pace of a bushman
and was on his way. He had crossed that line of
decision where he knew this was his journey and he
would take it willingly. That decision was evident
to those of the house. They could see it in his
step, in his stature, in his countenance. This
beloved boy was no more. He would return a man.

Sonora knew something of this. There were
similar requirements for young ladies, too. So she
knew what it meant to the mind of the participant.
She knew Hemno would return a new person, yet what
he had learned earlier would not be lost on him
and would be useful for this journey he was
taking.

Life around the household would not be the
same. Things would be quiet here now with Hemno
gone, and then it happened....

It is a way of seeing some of the good things and not so good
things that happen to us along the way.

tribulations of doing business on the internet.

Everyday is Christmas to me. I am one of the fortunate few
who really enjoys 98% of all in which I am involved. I helped
a friend set up a network of computers yesterday and it took
me back to days when I was similarly occupied. It is always
a joy to end up in a condition where all works well. Of
course I now must get in a "dig" against you Windows folks.
This system was a Mac system and it went together like a
dream, no fuss, no problem, no hassle.
