TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What is "St. Martin's summer"?

What exactly is Hanukkah?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What causes Indian summer?

Indian summer, which is actually quite common in the
Eastern United States, is caused by a large cold air
mass that travels into the mid-Atlantic states from Canada,
often bringing the first frosts. After the cold air moves off
into the Atlantic, it is replaced by a warm, humid,
southerly air flow that can last for days.

Why is it called "Indian summer"?

No one knows for sure, but the term has been around at
least since 1778, when it was used by early American
essayist J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur. Historians
speculate that the warm and humid autumn weather might
have been called Indian summer because it gave Native
Americans time to store more food for the winter. Another,
more negative, explanation of the term cites the fact that
"Indian" was often used by early Americans as a term
denoting something false (as in "Indian giver"). Thus,
an Indian summer would be a false summer.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

banana leaf as treatment.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

TITLE ARTICLE - - -
-----------------

Conviction
by Ken Darby

Fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence.
Their conviction resulted in untold sufferings for themselves
and their families. Of the 56 men, five were captured by
the British and tortured before they died. Twelve had
their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their
sons in the Revolutionary Army. Another had two sons
captured. Nine of the fifty-six fought and died from
wounds or hardships of the war. Carter Braxton of
Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships
sunk by the British navy. He sold his home and properties
to pay his debts and died in poverty. At the battle of
Yorktown, the British General Cornwallis had taken
over Thomas Nelson's home for his headquarters.
Nelson quietly ordered General George Washington
to open fire on his own home. The home was destroyed
and Nelson died bankrupt. John Hart was driven from
his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their thirteen
children fled for their lives. His fields and mill were
destroyed. For over a year, he lived in forest and caves,
returning home only to find his wife dead and his
children vanished. A few weeks later, he died from
exhaustion.

These men believed in the idea that autonomy was better
for the colonies in North America. They could see no value
in shipping the fruits of their labors to England for taxes
where, if kept home, they would much faster help build
a country. They thought long and hard on this principle
for they well knew it would cost them.

Do you have such conviction about your objectives? Are
you so fired up about what you are doing that you are
prepared to go through what these men went through?

If not, why not? How do you expect to achieve if your
convictions are subject to change at the next dollar? If
what you started was a good idea in the first place then
stick at it now. Every problem contains within it the seed
of it's solution.

Without the conviction that you will do or die most things
of meaning and purpose will fade away in your life. It is
to be abundantly clear that if you would succeed at what
you are doing then you must mean business, right down
to your core. You must set your objective against which
you will accept no alternative.

If the men that signed the Declaration Of Independence
had no such conviction there is no telling what kind of a
country you would live in today. Those men changed the
way the world does things. What they stood for then has
made our world today in which you earn a living. If you
have similar convictions you will do well within your
own life.

Bear in mind though, you will need the same depth of ...

Conviction.

Fats: The Good And The Not So Good
PART 3 of 8 (References will be at the
end of PART 8)

If You Are Confused About The Kinds Fats
That You Should Eat...Or Stay Away From,
This Information May Help.

Sources of fats that lead to heart disease (i.e., saturated fats,
trans-fatty acids) butter, whole milk products, red meat, pork,
margarine, and some fast foods. (Undesirable)...

Legumes soy, pinto beans, nuts (particularly walnuts)
(Desirable)...seeds, leeks, and purslane: (I couldn't find a
definition that I felt fit this concept.) (Desirable)...Vegetable
oils e.g., canola, flaxseed, and soybean. (Desirable)(There
is quite a bit of debate about the desirability of canola
oil.)...Fish: highest in omega-3 PUFAs and include
mackerel, Atlantic herring, albacore tuna, chinook
salmon, coho salmon, Greenland halibut, rainbow trout,
and Atlantic cod. (Desirable)

Dr. Bannock's Article: SOME FATS PROTECT THE HEART www.humannutrition.com

Dr Laz Bannock - 12th October 2001. Omega-3 fatty acids
from fish may be as effective as cholesterol-lowering drugs
at reducing risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). According
to a review published this week in the Archives of Internal
Medicine,(Ref 1) evidence from recent clinical trials in patients
with CHD strongly suggests that intake of omega-3
polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) from fish and fish oil
prevents cardiac death and nonfatal heart attacks.
(Ref 2 3 4 5) HOW DO THEY WORK? The review identified
several protective effects of omega-3 PUFAs in the
cardiovascular system. Omega-3 PUFAs are thought to
stabilize the electrical activity in the heart, thereby
preventing heartbeat irregularities (Arrhythmias).
(Ref 6 7) They prevent excessive blood clotting
that may contribute to obstruction of blood flow in the blood
vessels that supply the heart (coronary arteries).(Ref 8 9)

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

It was late and Tim went home to bed.

The following morning he heard noises
emanating from the kitchen that were not the usual
noises in the household. Looking at the clock
radio he had sitting near the bed he saw it was
10:30 am. He got out of bed, dressed and was on
his way downstairs when he saw a little girl go
running past the end of the stairway, laughing.
Now he knew what was going on. He also recognized
the voices.

"Hi Sis. How are you doing?" Tim walked
rapidly up to Eloise and gave her a big hug and a
kiss. Next he turned and shook hands with Mazunta.
"Hi Maz. What brings you guys up to this country?"

"We haven't seen you for a while Tim, so we
thought we would come up here for a day, maybe
more. How are you doing? I hear you guys had a
little excitement around here the last couple
days."

"Oh, Sis! Congratulations. When did he
arrive?" For the first time Tim noticed that
Eloise was carrying a little baby.

"He was born on October 2 Tim. He's a little
boy, healthy as they come. We called him Samual
Honero. I suppose he'll get Sammy for short."

"Sis, that's wonderful. Let me see him."

Tim wasn't the greatest around children but he
was happy to be an uncle for a second time.

The family, in pattern, were sitting around
the kitchen table drinking coffee and bringing
each other up to date with events in each others
lives.

"I was telling Tinkerbell and Maz about the
disaster we had downtown. I think they will want
to go down to see, later. It was quite a show."

"Not only that Sam" said Mazunta, "we haven't
seen Ben and Helen or the Whites for a while. We
were kind of hoping we might get in some
visiting."

"You bet. In fact we'll ask them over this
evening. How about that? They were over last night
after we were done downtown, but I'm sure they
would like to come over now you guys are here. I
ask them."

With that Sam sent a telepathic message to
both Ben and Jim. Each responded in the
affirmative. "They will both be over tonight,
after supper. That'll be good."

Tom and Billy were sitting at the table, also
having a coffee, and were listening. They didn't
have too much to say but were keenly interested in
the conversation.

Little Aniata came back into the kitchen.

"Come here Aniata. Come give your uncle Tim a kiss
and a hug."

She shied and went to her mother. She was
hiding behind her mother's arm and looking out at
Tim. Aniata had not had much exposure to this
land, these people, this house or the things going
on. This would be her first major trip away from
home and, at one, she may not even then remember
much of it. She was a cute little girl with dark
hair, like her father, but with blue eyes like her
mother. She had the overall appearance of her
mother.

Tim was not able to get a kiss at that moment.
It would take a while before Aniata would accept
him. He decided not to force the issue.

The day went fairly fast. The group was busily
engaged in conversation and had a lot of catching
up to do.

"Let's go downtown and see what's happening.
I'd like to see what's left." Mazunta was
interested in having a look.

"Yes, I'd like to see too. I'll bet its a
mess. I can take the baby." Eloise wanted to
accompany the men.

"No, no, leave the kids here. I'll look after
them. That's fine. I've seen what happened. I
don't have to see it again." Alewka wanted to
spend time with her grandchildren.

The children's other grandparents lived in the
village with them and had the chance to see them
on a daily basis. Sam and Alewka were not living
there and so appreciated the opportunity to see
them as often as they could.

Eloise agreed to leave the children with
Grandma. "Anni, would you stay with Grandma and
help her look after little Sammy? Mommy wants to
go with Daddy, and Grandpa to see something and we
won't be long. Grandma will look after you fine?"

"Come Anni" said Alewka. "Let's see if we can
find anything on the television set for you to
watch." Alewka took Anni's hand and led her into
the living room. There the pair sat down on the
floor and played with the remote control until
there came up a channel where Anni appeared
interested. Before you know it she was engrossed
in the program and it didn't matter if Mommy left.

Sam, Mazunta, Eloise, Tim, Tom and Billy all
transported themselves downtown. They reappeared
on the sidewalk in front of The Pinehill Sound.

OBSERVATIONS OF OUR BUSINESS

Since beginning the Project 2003 item, many of you have

business.

It is a way of seeing some of the good things and not so good
things that happen to us along the way.

While it may not replicate your story, neither may it be replicated

tribulations of doing business on the internet.

We thought we would keep it up.

TODAY'S REPORT:

Back into a weekend folks. Mom and I are onto some personal
business today, shopping and stuff, you know.

I attended a meeting last night I found much interesting. It was
a case of big business wanting to do things that locals did not
want. It was loud, emotional and, I fear, all together being used
against them. I think big business will do this whether the locals
want it or not and I fear the locals will have no say.

HA! HA! HA!

A man went into a restaurant and saw a sign that read:
"$500 if we don't fill your order."

The man ordered an elephant tail sandwich on rye bread,
the waitress jotted down the order and headed for the kitchen.

Soon afterwards there was a great commotion and the
manager of the restaurant came to the man with five
$100 bills.

As he laid them on the table he said, "Sir, I am really
sorry that we could not fill your order and I want you to
know that this is the first time in ten years that we have
been out of rye bread."
