TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
Does Hanukkah have ANY connection to Christmas?
When is Hanukkah?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is "St. Martin's summer"?
It's the English term for what Americans call Indian summer.
St. Martin's day is November 11, which is often about the
time the unusually warm weather occurs.
What exactly is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah, or Chanukah, is the "Festival of Lights," an
eight-day celebration of a miracle. More than two thousand
years ago, the Jews were pressured by the Syrian king
Anitochus to renounce their religion. The Jews responded
by fighting to push the Syrians out of Israel. They were
successful, and won back the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
After cleaning the Temple thoroughly, the Jewish people
were ready to rededicate it and begin services. But they
had only a tiny amount of pure oil with which to light the
menorah. The oil was only enough to burn for one day,
but it miraculously burned for eight days, until more pure
oil was found.

The following is a direct exerpt from eMarketer Daily.
Save That E-Mail!
Although it was a non-issue in most organizations outside
the securities industry as recently as two years ago, a new
survey from Ferris Research indicates that most companies
are now aware of the importance of e-mail archiving, with
36% reporting it as a major priority. "The e-mail inbox has
become the de-facto document management system for
many professional people," says David Via of Ferris. While
69% of the respondents have had to produce e-mail records
for litigation, government investigations, regulatory
compliance, audits, mergers or acquisitions, or other official
business proceedings, 75% indicate they have no systems
in place for managing e-mail records.
G-O-O-O-O-OGLE!
According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle,
Google expects to add 372,050 advertiser accounts by
2008. Citing internal documents, the newspaper says
that the search giant sees its advertiser base growing
by more than 130% in the next four years, leaping from
280,000 in 2004 to 652,050 in 2008. In related news,
Google has been named the fastest-growing technology
company in North America by Deloitte & Touche USA,
which reports that by rising from $220,000 in 1999 to
$961.9 million in 2003, Google's revenue growth rate
over five years was 437,115%!

Fats: The Good And The Not So Good
PART 4 of 8 (References will be at the
end of PART 8)
If You Are Confused About The Kinds Fats
That You Should Eat...Or Stay Away From,
This Information May Help.
Intake of omega-3 PUFAs has been shown to decrease
blood levels of Triglycerides and to increase the most
protective form of HDL ("good") cholesterol.(Ref 10 11 12)
Omega-3 PUFAs may also enhance circulation and
prevent the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. EARLY
CLUES FROM GREENLAND... The evidence of the
protective role of omega-3 fatty acids has been accumulating
steadily since the 1970s, when researchers investigated
the dietary habits of Inuit people living in Greenland.(Ref 13)
The Inuit were known to have a low incidence of CHD,
despite eating a high-fat diet (39% of calories from fat). From
this research, an appreciation has emerged that the type
of fat consumed is as important as, or more important than,
the amount. A study comparing the Inuit people with Danish
people revealed that, although the Danish diet contained
a similar proportion of fat (42% of calories), the Danes had
ten times the death rate from CHD, compared with that
among the Inuits. The researchers attributed this finding
primarily to the presence of high amounts protective
omega-3 PUFAs in the Inuit diet, in contrast to the high
amounts of saturated fat and trans-fatty acids in the
Danish diet. CLINICAL TRIALS SHOW A POWERFUL EFFECT....
The most compelling evidence of all comes from recent
clinical trials in humans. These studies have clearly
demonstrated risk reductions similar to those seen in the
major trials of cholesterol-lowering "statin" drugs. The authors
of the new review note that the participants in these trials
had one or more cardiac risk factors or early, undetectable
heart disease. They cautioned that studies of healthy people
are needed before large changes in the food supply or
widespread consumption of omega-3 PUFA supplements
can be recommended.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Mazunta and Eloise could hardly believe their
eyes. There were still firemen and police
controlling what was happening in the area. All
fires were out but not all danger was past. There
was still a risk of falling walls plus the firemen
had not yet ascertained that all the gas was
turned off in all buildings affected by the fire.
Because of the damage around, that task was not as
easy as one might think. There were still
buildings in the immediate area that needed to
have gas so the lines could not be turned on in
the area, globally. Each building had to be turned
off independently.
"My gosh, Dad. This place is a mess. I'll bet
you guys were busy getting people out. You did
very well."
"I'll say they did." Darryl Sparks had seen
them through the window of his office and came out
onto the sidewalk to talk. "Hello Eloise. It is
very nice to see you again. This town doesn't get
enough of you. We are sure happy to have your
family here though. How are you making out. I
heard you moved down to a village in South
America, got yourself all married up and had a
couple children."
"Mr. Sparks, I'd like you to meet my husband,
Mazunta. How are you? Yes, I got myself married
and Maz and I have a little girl one year old and
a new bouncing baby boy. If you would like to see
them you can drop over to the house tonight.
We're, or rather the folks are having a bit of a
get together with the Strikers and the Whites.
Please come."
"Hello Mazunta. Welcome to Pinehill. You got
yourself a good one when you married Eloise." said
Darryl, shaking Maz's hand. "Yes, I'd like that,
but that is very distinguished company. I'd be the
only one there who didn't live by higher law.
Maybe I can bring my wife with me. Would that be
all right?"
"Darryl, that would be fine. We are most
pleased you will be there. We look forward to it."
Sam reassured Darryl he and his wife would be
welcome company.
They continued to survey the problem. There
were still television cameras down at one end of
the street. Some were shooting, some were not.
The first aid station was packing up. The only
people left there, beside the nurses and helpers,
were onlookers. They were yet in a state of awe
about the whole thing, but all were well.
Surprisingly the Pinehill Hospital had few
folks from the disaster. There was remarkably
little human damage and the first aid station that
was set up at the site took care of most folks.
The hospital received only a few with broken bones
that had to be reset. They also took in some
patients who were suffering from shock so bad the
medical community thought they should stay the
night so they would be under observation.
Otherwise the hospital had very few from the
explosion downtown.
The fire crews and police that had come in
from other communities had gone. The situation was
such that the Pinehill authorities were able to
look after anything else that happened.
The police chief came walking over to the
group on the sidewalk. He knew who they were or he
would have had his men get them away from there.
They still had the street cordoned off so folks
were not allowed to come into the center of town.
"Hello folks. Just come down to see whats
happening?"
"Hello Chief. Yes. My daughter and her husband
are visiting and they wanted to see what happened.
"Hello Eloise. It is good to see you again.
Hello Mazunta. It is good to see you too. How are
things with you two? As you can see we have had
ourselves a bit of a disaster here. If it weren't
for your folks it would have been much worse."
"Hello Chief. It is good to see you too. We're
doing fine, thank you." Mazunta remembered meeting
the deputy chief one day when he was up visiting
Ben Striker. "This was some explosion. What a
mess."
"Its not so bad now. You should have seen it
while it was still going on. The noise, the heat,
the danger, what an adrenaline rush. All of us
were busy there for a while."
"I'll bet."
"Sam, I haven't had the chance to speak with
you since this happened. I was talking with Tim
last night, but not you. I want to thank you for
what you and your family did here. There are many
who owe their lives to you. On behalf of the city,
let me say - - Thanks!" The Chief moved over to
Sam and shook his hand. Then he took the hand of
each one who had helped and thanked them.
"Chief. You are welcome, but please don't make
a thing of it. We did what we could, just like
everyone who helped."

HA! HA! HA!
You probably know of those "walking to school" stories ... I
walked to school each day, 5 miles, uphill, both ways,
barefoot, in the snow .....
Well, when I was a kid, I really did walk 10 miles to school
every day, sometimes in the rain or snow. Man, did I feel
stupid when I found out there was a bus.
