TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

Why does Hanukkah have so many different spellings?

When is the winter solstice?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Does Hanukkah have ANY connection to Christmas?

Not at all. Hanukkah occurs about the same time as
Christmas, so many people assume it is the "Jewish
Christmas." But it's not and it's not even a really
important religious holiday in the Jewish faith.

When is Hanukkah?

Hanukkah falls on a different date each year. The
celebration begins on the twenty-fifth day of the Jewish
month of Kislev, the ninth month of the Jewish year,
occurring in November/December.

3 Secrets of Establishing Yourself
as the Expert of Choice
by Marisa D?Vari

Have you ever felt a jolt of envy to see a competitor ?
or even a friend grinning up at you from a newspaper
or trade publication? Why him, and not me, we often
wonder.

When you are interviewed by the media, you gain
official third party credibility. On a subconscious level,
prospects, clients, and colleagues may subconsciously
believe that the publication or show is actually endorsing
your services and giving you the golden seal of approval.

Receiving media attention is the quickest way to emerge
as the expert of choice, and elevate yourself above your
competition. And the great thing is that a single media
appearance begets even more media appearances. You
don't need a high priced publicist to become a media
darling, but you do need to become proactive and resolve
to start now.

Here is an easy-to-implement 3-step plan that will have
you generating publicity in no time flat.

Step 1:
Buy a notebook and carry it with your everywhere,
especially when you read the paper or your trade
publications. Journalists today feature between 3-5
experts for every story to add a balanced perspective,
local color, and help the reader map the anecdote to
his own experience.

Begin to write down the names and publications of
journalists who cover experts similar to yourself. Jot
down the titles of their stories and add this information
to a database such as Act.

Write these journalists a four paragraph introductory letter.?
In the first paragraph, tell them that you are a fan and
mention a specific article by name. This flatters them,
but more important, shows that you actually read their
stories and know the themes and issues they actually
cover.

In the second paragraph, briefly discuss your area of
expertise, and offer yourself as a source for future stories.
You may score more points by mentioning that you are
also a member of many associations related to their
beat, and that you can offer other experts should they
need them. In the third paragraph, you may mention a
few timely, relevant story ideas (see Step 2).

Then, in the last paragraph, mention you will call them
to discuss it further on a specific date, and do so.

Step 2:
Develop a running list of story ideas. With that same
notebook you take everywhere, begin to jot down story
ideas as they occur to you. For example:

1. Research you have done for a client. Can you turn
this into a case study or story idea?

2. Questions clients are asking you. Are clients all
suddenly asking the same question? This may be a
universal concern journalists want to know about.

3. Trade show gossip. What were people whispering
about in the halls? What can you turn into a story?

4. Trends.
Journalists love trend stories. You are out in the field
and read an assortment of trade publications, but they
are shackled to their desk and rely on experts such as
yourself to feed them hot information and new trends.
What?s new in your field? What do you see for the
future?

5. Observations.
In the course of your daily life, story ideas are all around
you. In the past, before directed awareness and your
notebook, they might have flown into one ear and out the
other. Now, you?ll write these observations down and turn
it into tasty media morsels.

6. Evergreen stories.
Each year, the media needs to cover the same topics. If
you are an accountant, you know the media is going to
want timely tax saving tips, so score brownie points by
giving the subject a new spin.

Step 3:
Put yourself in the position of an editor, reporter, or producer.
Specifically, realize that:

1. They want news and information relevant to their audience.

2. They want ?new news?if it could have been told last week,
or next week, it's low on their radar screen.

3. They prefer it if you put the story together for them. Instead
of just giving them a one-line idea, do the legwork yourself
and find sources in addition to yourself.

Score even more points by finding a source who opposes
your point of view, since journalists like to cover both sides
of an issue and love the tension created by controversy.

Becoming a media darling can build your business and
give you the celebrity status?usually bestowed on film stars
and politicians. 95% of the trick is simply becoming aware
of the opportunities around you, and realizing that if an
expert similar to yourself was featured on a show or in an
article, so could you!

Love - not for your sake, but for others.
---- Ken Darby

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Fats: The Good And The Not So Good
PART 5 of 8 (References will be at the
end of PART 8)

If You Are Confused About The Kinds Fats
That You Should Eat...Or Stay Away From,
This Information May Help.

Although people with lower risk have been found in some
studies not to benefit from increased fish consumption,
experts agree that people with increased risk of CHD can
benefit from eating at least two servings of fish per week. It
has been estimated that a high-risk person could reduce
his or her risk of CHD-related death by 40% to 60%,(Ref 14)
simply by eating 40 to 60 grams (approximately 1.3 to 2 ounces)
of fish per day. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR PUFA INTAKE...
Omega-3 PUFAs and omega-6 PUFAs are known as "essential"
fatty acids because they are necessary for life but must be
obtained through the diet (i.e., humans cannot synthesize them).
Although no governmental body in the U.S. has recommended
specific intake levels, an expert panel of nutrition scientists
recently suggested an intake of 2.85 grams of omega-3 PUFAs
per day. (Ref 15) The British Nutrition Foundation recommends
an even higher intake (3.6 grams per day).(Ref 16) Current
consumption of omega-3 PUFAs in the U.S. falls far below the
recommended levels. The average American eats about
1.6 grams of omega-3 PUFAs per day, from all sources.
The principal sources of omega-3 PUFAs in the American
diet are vegetable oils and fish. DIETARY SOURCES...
Fish highest in omega-3 PUFAs include mackerel, Atlantic
herring, albacore tuna, chinook salmon, coho salmon,
Greenland halibut, rainbow trout, and Atlantic cod. Vegetable
sources of omega-3 PUFAs also exist, but the evidence is
stronger for protection from marine-source fatty acids.
Plant sources of omega-3 PUFAs include some legumes
(soy, pinto beans), nuts (particularly walnuts) and seeds,
leeks, and purslane. Vegetable oils (e.g., canola, flaxseed,
soybean) are a significant source.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------

"Yeah, but what you did was miraculous. You
saved people from certain death. None of the rest
of us could even get close to them. You really did
some work." The chief emphasized that last point.

"Again I say Chief. Let it go at that. We
helped where we could, that's all."

The conversation went back and forth on things
that had happened. It was interesting the
different perspective the police chief had as
compared to the group. He was interested in
security, control, being perceived as doing his
job. Even in the midst of all this he still had
his own agenda.

The group had chatted long enough. It seemed
all conversation was over, there being nothing
more to speak on. "Let's walk over to the next
street to have a look there. Is that okay with you
Chief, or would our presence, being seen, cause
you some difficulty?" Sam knew that if some people
were seen to be walking around then everyone else
would be in there too. "On second thought Chief
don't worry about it. It was a bad idea. We can
make ourselves invisible if we want to go over
there. Thanks for stopping by."

The Chief started to walk away. When he turned
to look back there was no one but Darryl Sparks
on the sidewalk and he was on his way back into
his office.

The group, now invisible, walked across the
street, up to the corner and over to the next
street. It was just as bad, with fire hoses still
strung out, some buildings having caved in, walls
having fallen. Firemen were still working
beginning to pack up their gear. Police were
standing watch, not letting anyone into the area.

Having seen, the group decided to go home.
They arrived in the living room just as Alewka and
AliAnn threw their arms up in the air and hollered
"Yayyy!!!"

"My, what are you two up to?" Eloise had a
smile on her face. She was pleased that Anni and
Alewka were enjoying each other and the television
show.

AliAnn got up and ran to her Mother and gave
her a hug. Then she immediately left and rejoined
Grandma. The pair of them were enthralled with the
show. It was a Disney thing and the music as well
as the movement on TV fascinated Anni.

"So what did you see?" Alewka asked.

"Wow! What a mess. That place really blew up.
It must have been some explosion. And the fire
took out half the block, all the one behind it.
What a mess. Oh, Mom, we met Mr. Sparks and
invited he and his wife over tonight. I thought
I'd let you know."

"Thanks dear. I have never met Mrs. Sparks. I
don't even know her name, but it will be nice to
have them over. Darryl is a nice man and proven
himself worthy of our trust. You guys hungry? We
haven't eaten in quite a while. Come. Sit."

The whole group headed for the kitchen and
took up their regular spots. There was some
shifting to permit Maz and Eloise to sit. Eloise
manifested a high chair for little AliAnn to sit
in.

"We ran into Russel, the Police Chief while we
were downtown. He was very thankful for our help.
I hope he doesn't take it past that. I hope city
officials also keep this low key." Sam was
expressing his concern for all the public
attention their efforts might sponsor.

"Maybe we can ask Darryl to help steer things
away from any notoriety. He has the ear of City
Hall" Alewka knew well the power Darryl Sparks
had, because of his careful attention to the needs
of the community.

"What's for supper Mom?"

"What would you like Tom?"

"I'd like a big fat steak and a baked
potato."

"Then dig in" Alewka had taken the image she
had seen in his mind and manifested the meal right
in front of him.

"How about you Billy? You've been sitting
there all nice and quiet just waiting for your
meal. What would you like?"

"My favorite meal is a bunch of pan fried
shrimp and a big pile of french fries, Mrs. H."

With that his meal was instantly in its place
in front of him.

Alewka went around the table and gave everyone
their favorite. "Tomorrow night you guys you get
exotic. Eloise is doing the cooking." She winked
at Eloise.

"Wow! I'll bet thats going to be great." Billy
had not eaten the food Maz and Eloise eat in their
South American village. He thought that was going
to be an interesting supper.

"It will be Billy. I like the food they do
down there." Alewka responded.

OBSERVATIONS OF OUR BUSINESS

Since beginning the Project 2003 item, many of you have
become interested in following what we are doing in our
business.

It is a way of seeing some of the good things and not so good
things that happen to us along the way.

While it may not replicate your story, neither may it be replicated
by you, it does keep you updated on some of the trials and
tribulations of doing business on the internet.

We thought we would keep it up.

TODAY'S REPORT:

We got our snow shoveled yesterday. it took three of us. Part
of my snow problem is that I have a high pitched roof and the
snow comes sliding down onto part of a walkway. That's work.
That stuff sets like concrete.

I'm doing writing and researching today. I want to put together
a database of all the newspapers in North America, plus I
want to do some research on the best way to approach them.

I want to use this to market my book, The Saga Of Pinehill, The
Adventure. As you know it will be hitting the bookstores in early
February and I ask all of you to go into your bookstore and get
one.

Actually, if you would like to pre-order you can go to your
bookstore now and ask for The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure,
ISBN 141374723X published by Publish America. The more of
you who do this the more books the publisher prints. Thank you
for your help.

HA! HA! HA!

A man walked into a doctor's office. "What do you have?"
the receptionist asked.

"Shingles," he replied.

She told him to sit down. Soon a nurse called him and
asked, "What do you have?"

"Shingles," he replied.

She took his blood pressure, weight, and complete medical
history. Then she took him to a room and told him to remove
all of his clothes. After a few minutes the doctor came in and
asked, "What do you have?"

"Shingles," the man told him.

The doctor looked him up and down and said, "Where?"

"Out on the truck. Where do you want me to unload them?"
