TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

If you received all the gifts mentioned in the song
"The Twelve Days of Christmas," how many would
you have?

What does "auld lang syne" mean?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Is it true that the Earth is actually nearer the sun in January
than it is in June?

Yes, the Earth is nearer the sun in January than it is in June -
by three million miles. The seasons are not caused by the
nearness of the Earth to the sun, but rather by the tilt of the
planet on its axis.

How many levels of angels are there?

In Christian theology, there are nine choirs of angels. At the
top of the ladder and nearest to God are seraphim, who
have three pairs of wings. Following them are cherubim,
thrones, dominions, virtues, powers, principalities,
archangels, and angels.

Here are some excerpts from eMarketer I think you will like.

eBay Numbers Balloon
eBay reported last week that its net income nearly doubled
and sales rose 52% in the third quarter. The giant online
auctioneer credited its back-to-school and international
auctions businesses for the rise. Revenues from the
international business increased 82% to $282.3 million,
while revenues in the US business increased 29% to
$330.6 million. The future is up, up and away, too.
eBay projects that its total 2004 revenues will reach
$3.25 billion — $65 million more than previously projected.

ICANN Looks for New Net-Minder
The Washington Post reports that ICANN, the
organization charged with overseeing the domain
name system of the Internet, is searching for a new
company to operate the ".net" domain. Currently, this
domain is under the exclusive control of VeriSign, which
is also the sole operator of the .com domain, meaning it
is the wholesaler of domain addresses and also is
responsible for assuring that the domain continues to
run smoothly. In 2001, VeriSign and ICANN came to an
agreement in which VeriSign would gain stronger control
over the operation of .com domains while relinquishing
its hold on .net domains. VeriSign gave up control
of .org domains in 2003 to Dublin-based Afilias.

Is It Time for Linux?
October 26, 2004

Many business users feel increasingly comfortable
running complex and mission-critical applications on
the Linux operating system (OS). Others are not so sure.

According to the eMarketer report, Linux Usage and
Trends, during the past few years, Linux has steadily
crept into the enterprise space, with various studies
indicating that between 45% and 70% of businesses
have deployed Linux in some capacity. The aggregated
survey data also confirm that as of mid-2004, early
adopters of Linux-based technology are planning to
expand their use of Linux over the next few years.

Among the key drivers of Linux adoption are its relatively
low cost and favorable reputation as a stable operating
system, which has prompted several companies to
switch to Linux during their current server upgrade
cycle. On the other hand, few businesses have been
willing to run high-end or mission-critical applications
on Linux servers, while even fewer companies have
decided to deploy desktop PCs that run on the
Linux OS.

"Most industry observers are taking the long view
with Linux, however," says Steve Butler, eMarketer
Senior Analyst and author of the report. "They predict
that at least some of most enterprises' applications
and corporate databases will run on Linux within five
to ten years' time. The market for Linux PCs is expected
to see steady growth as well, not only in developing
countries like China and Brazil, but also in Europe and
North America, where small businesses and
government organizations will want to take advantage
of low-cost Linux-based PCs."

Fats: The Good And The Not So Good
PART 8 of 8 (References will be at the
end of PART 8)

If You Are Confused About The Kinds Fats
That You Should Eat... Or Stay Away From,
This Information May Help.

If this clot isn't removed, usually by medication, it will cause
the area in which it is lodged, to die. (I always think of
Alice in Wonderland as she is tumbling down the hole. She
eventually lands in a spot where she can't go any further: same
with this blood clot. So the goal is to have strong, regular
heart muscle contractions push blood throughout all parts
of the body. Fat is carried through your circulatory system
to the tissues as Triglycerides. Many people with high
Triglyceride levels also have high LDL (Bad) and
low HDL (Good) levels. This increases the risk of heart
disease. This may be confusing. High Triglyceride levels
usually accompany bad (LDL) levels, and good (HDL)
usually have lower Triglyceride levels. Normal Triglyceride
levels are usually less than 200 mg/dL. I like to think of it
this way: HDL: (quick moving) clears the arteries, while
LDL: (sluggish) clogs them. Finally, how much fat should
you take and what kind. Some American experts say: "2.85
grams of omega-3 PUFAs per day. While some British
experts recommend an even higher intake (3.6 grams per
day)" And you would get that amount in approximately
1.3 to 2 ounces) of fish per day. So just realize that by
eating a little more fish and substituting fish oil (or olive oil)
for your regular salad or cooking oil, you already increase
your chances of a healthier and longer life. And ultimately
you could forgo... cholesterol-lowering "statin" drugs As the
American Medical Association has stated, any condition
that is degenerative, can be reversed by optimum amounts
of nutritional supplements. So doing the right thing NOW for
your heart muscle could prevent damage to it, and could
indeed reverse the process.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Each man chooses his own path, Darryl. If he
becomes a little more civil in his approach to
things he may go far. That would be good. I wish
it for him. He was considerably subdued last night
when he realized there were maybe a dozen who
could have come to his rescue, but the just stood
there. That shocked him. I think that is what this
is about."

The whole evening was a wonderful happening.
With the room full of love and light everyone was
relaxed and natural, even Evelyn Sparks. She and
her husband fit right in and all conversations
included them. They were made to feel a part of
the group.

The conversation came around to Eloise and her
children. The baby needed feeding and that is what
started it. When Eloise brought him out they all
wanted to see the little guy.

Eloise was a firm believer in breast feeding.
She well knew the advantages Mother's milk gave to
the infants immune system. She breast fed AliAnn
as well.

Evelyn Sparks was impressed with Eloise's tan.
From spending so long in the jungle she was now
nearly the color of the villagers. So too was
AliAnn.

"That sounds like a very nice place to live,
warm, lots of sunshine" said Evelyn.

"It is very nice. It is much primitive
compared to the way folks live up here, although
much more relaxed and far less disease and stress.
I think you'd like it. Would you like to have a
short look?"

Evelyn didn't know what she was saying when
she said "Yes". She thought it would be a nice
thing to do someday. Little did she know.

"Good" Eloise had just finished feeding little
Sammy. She rose and went to put him back into his
bed. Upon her return Mazunta rose.

"Darryl, take Evelyn's hand and the pair of
you stand up." Mazunta's words were kind and
loving, but not to be argued with.

Darryl and Evelyn did as they were told but
had a perplexed look on their face. They did not
know why Mazunta asked them to do this.

Eloise stretched out her arm to take Evelyn's
hand. The instant she touched it they were back
home in their village, Darryl and Evelyn too.

"Wha...what? Oh my God. Where are we?" Evelyn
held her husband's arm, tight. She was not only
surprised but a little frightened.

"Don't worry, Evelyn" came a voice from behind
her. Sam Henry and Ben Striker had also come, just
to aid this moment.

"Mr. H...Henry. What is this? What's going on?
Where are we?"

Sam looked at Darryl who had a similarly
perplexed look on his face, although not so
concerned or worried as his wife. He knew that if
Sam Henry and Ben Striker were here also then he
could trust the situation. "Evelyn, back home you
expressed an interest in where Eloise and Mazunta
lived. They live here. This is South America and
this village is where Eloise and Mazunta live. In
fact, that is their house right there. Darryl, do
you remember Frank Wiley? Well his wife, Mae, and
one of their sons, David live here too. David
married Pam Hunter, if you recall, and they now
have two children. Evelyn, there is nothing to
fear. All is well. We knew that if we asked you to
come you would have doubts and likely turn us
down. This way you are here, you will see and when
you are ready we will go back home. This village
is about two hours behind us so we will still have
some daylight left."

"My! I would never have believed it. No one
can travel like that. That was as fast as
thought."

"Very perceptive, Evelyn. That is exactly how
fast it is. We can travel anywhere in the world
without having any discernable difference in time
between the time we leave one spot and show up in
another. It is instant. Darryl, what are your
thoughts on the matter?"

"Sam, you continue to surprise me. I had no
idea you were able to do this. It set me back at
first, but when I heard your voice behind me I
knew all was well. You mean to tell me you can
travel anywhere you want just like that? Wow! I
have never been to South America before. Now I
will not be able to say that. May we look around?"

"Sure. Mazunta, Tinkerbell, why don't you show
us around the village? And explain things as you
do. I'm sure Darryl and Evelyn are interested."

Just then Evelyn grabbed Darryl and moved to
his other side. She was frightened. Midnight and
her latest cub were coming up to the group. Evelyn
did not know about Midnight and all she knew was
that cats that size can be dangerous.

OBSERVATIONS OF OUR BUSINESS

Since beginning the Project 2003 item, many of you have
become interested in following what we are doing in our
business.

It is a way of seeing some of the good things and not so good
things that happen to us along the way.

While it may not replicate your story, neither may it be replicated
by you, it does keep you updated on some of the trials and
tribulations of doing business on the internet.

We thought we would keep it up.

TODAY'S REPORT:

We had a very nice birthday party for Mom last night. All
the kids were there as well as the grandkids. I love those
get togethers. I think I'm coming to the end of my research
for sources of email addresses for Canadian newspapers.
Now I just have to do the work of putting it all together.
My doing extra writing, however, has to continue for
a while. My political friend wants to run for an important
position within our Province and I said I would help.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"Every man has three characters -- that which he exhibits,
that which he has, and that which he thinks he has."
---- Alphonse Karr

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

A little old lady sold pretzels on a street corner
for 25 cents each.

Every day a young man would leave his office
building at lunch time and, as he passed her pretzel
stand, he would leave her a quarter, but would
never take a pretzel.

This went on for more than five years. The two of
them never spoke.

One day as the man passed the old ladies pretzel stand
and left his quarter as usual, the pretzel woman spoke
to him,

"Sir, I appreciate your business. You are a good customer,
but I have to tell you that the pretzel price has
increased to 35 cents."
