TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What accident led to the discovery of penicillin?
What was "childbed fever"?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Is it true that microwave ovens were invented as a result of
an accident?
Yes. Microwave energy was in use a decade before the advent
of a microwave oven, but it was used for radar defense, not
for cooking. In 1946, however, Raytheon Co. engineer Percy
Spencer was testing a magnetron tube (the tube that produces
microwave energy) when he decided to have a bite of his
candy bar. The bar, which was in his pocket, had melted into
a gooey mess - despite the fact that he'd felt no heat.
Spencer began to experiment with other products (popcorn,
eggs) and discovered that microwave energy could cook food!
How did Charles Goodyear accidentally invent vulcanized
rubber?
Charles Goodyear had been working for years to invent
heat-resistant rubber, a kind of rubber that could be put to
practical uses. (The kind of rubber available at that time
was prone to cracking and melting - thoroughly useless).
Eventually, he succeeded, but only as the result of an
accident: he dropped his experiment (rubber mixed with
sulphur) on a hot stove and the heat it was subjected to
turned out to be the missing ingredient he'd been searching
for. There are two legends about Goodyear's famous accident.
One says he was trying to hide his experiment from his
fed-up wife (she was sick of his time-consuming tinkering
with rubber and wanted him to get a paying job). Another
legend says the mixture got dropped onto the hot stove as a
result of his excitement in showing it to somebody. Goodyear
himself denied his discovery was an accident, but the
legends persist.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!

You Are What You Think You Are
You are what you think you are. And, what you think you are
is what you will project to the world. Have you ever
noticed that some folks get the "Hey, you" treatment while
others get the "Yes, Ma'am" respect. Why is this? Some
folks simply project confidence, poise and assurance while
others do not. It is often the case that those who present
themselves well are also the most successful.
What is the explanation for this? One word makes the
difference: thinking. Thoughts are things and thinking does
make things so. You may remember Shakespeare's words"
"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it
so." The same is true about how you think of yourself.
You will usually receive the kind of treatment that you
think you deserve. On the other hand, you are responsible
for teaching others how to treat you. If you think you are
not good enough, you will project this and allow others to
treat you in disrespectful ways. You may resent it. It may
make you angry, however, you allow it because you may think
you deserve it at some level.
Why not do this differently? Step out with your best self
in mind. Know that you are important. If you were not
here, there would be an empty space. Take your place. Take
up your space and know that you deserve love, respect,
attention and acceptance just because you breathe. Of
course, if you persist in doing things that teach others
that this is not so, you cannot be surprised if they have a
different perception of you, can you?
How you think determines how you act. How you act in turn
determines how others react to you. It is a simple formula.
Look where it starts, though. It starts with how you think.
To gain the respect of others, you must first think you
deserve respect. The more respect you have for yourself,
the more respect others will have for you.
Self-respect is demonstrated by everything you do. Dress
well. Your appearance broadcasts how you feel about
yourself. Lift your spirits by taking time to look good.
No matter how many casual Fridays the work world allows, be
sure that you dress in a way that keeps your mind and
attitude "thinking sharp". Why do you think the armed
services pay so much attention to the details of dressing?
Stay sharp.
Your appearance talks to you and it talks to others. You
know the line: You never get a second chance to make a
first impression. First impressions last far longer than it
takes to make one! Start your day with a good impression of
yourself. You are what you think you are. What are you
projecting?
Remember: what you pay attention to expands!

Some Thoughts About Soy
PART 2 of 5
Dr. Mercola's comments Here are some direct quotes from Dr.
Mercolas comments. (Open quote) This powerful exposé
reveals the truth about the soy myths that have infiltrated
our culture. In it, you'll learn that: Soy is not a health
food
Soy is not the answer to world hunger
Soy is not a
disease-preventive panacea
Soy has not even been proven
safe
It's ironic that soy has become so accepted as a health food
when, as Dr. Daniel states, thousands of studies link soy to
malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown,
thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive
disorders and infertility--even cancer and heart disease.
But by the end of Chapter 3, The Ploy of Soy, you'll
understand why the soy marketing campaign worked so well.
Reading on you'll learn all about the different types of
soy, the macronutrients in soy, the ANTInutrients in soy,
heavy metals in soy, soy allergens, soy and cancer, and soy
estrogens and the way they wreak havoc on your hormones.
This latter issue is one of the most crucial and serious, as
millions of Americans feed soy formula to their infants. In
The Whole Soy Story, Daniel explains how the estrogens in
soy can irreversibly harm the baby's future sexual
development and reproductive health. She exposes and
discusses these important, yet little known, facts about soy
that would have any parent up in arms (if, that is, they
were to read this book to find out the truth): Soy impedes
the sexual maturation of boys (p. 335) Soy accelerates the
sexual maturation of girls (p. 339) In newborns, the
hormonal effects of soy may be irreversible (p. 333) The
average daily dose of soy estrogens in soy formula (38mg) is
higher than the amounts that cause thyroid problems and
endocrine disruption in adults (p. 334)
.Soy protein
reduces fatty liver toxicity and insulin resistance

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"I guess, after lunch, we should make a trip
to Matto Grosso. What do you say kids?"
"Oh yes, Grandpa. That would be great."
Even though the kids expected it the
confirmation by their Granddad was enough to get
them more excited.
Lunch was good but couldn't go fast enough.
Finally it was over and the kids let no one miss
the notion they were leaving right away.
"Well, guys, lets go." Sam took each of them
by the hand and in that instant they were in the
streets of Matto Grosso about a block from the
shrine.
Sam's presence exuded love for a great
distance. People beside him began to bow, move
aside and make motions as if to hold him in
reverent regard. Each time, Sam made a motion with
his hand for people to not do that.
What Sam did not realize was that his new
countenance was magnificent, that it was large and
commanded attention. At the same time he exuded
love in a powerful way. It was just natural that
people who had come to a Holy Place would seem
inclined to look upon him as a Holy Figure.
While Sam did not want that, that is the way
it was. The kids were in awe of how the people
reacted to their Granddad.
Slowly, as he could, Sam made his way toward
the shrine. The crowds finally became too great
and were paying far too much attention to him. He
looked at the kids and told them it was time to
become invisible.
Right there, in front of everyone, Sam and the
kids vanished to the eye. The crowd had no idea
what had happened to them. They were there one
minute and disappeared the next. There was much
murmuring among the crowd. This was indeed a Holy
Place. It raised the level of expectation in the
crowd. Word soon passed from person to person all
the way up to the front of the line.
Much was accomplished at the shrine that day.
People believed they were really in a place of
God. They were healed and made well. The infirm
were made better and the lame walked.
Sam and the kids, invisible, walked into the
orphanage, past the people.
"Hello, Mr. Henry" One of the kids recognized
Sam.
"Hello, Giles."
"I know you are invisible but I can see you. I
guess you had a hard time getting through the
crowd?"
"Yes. They somehow think I am a Holy Man and
they all wanted to bend and kiss my feet. I had to
become invisible to stop that." Sam once more made
himself and the kids visible.
"Mr. Henry, maybe you don't recognize the
effect your countenance has on people. You are a
large man, dressed all in white. You appear very
distinguished. Then when you broadcast love you
not only do so like the rest of us but it reaches
out so far in encompasses everything in half a
block. It is no wonder they think you are a Holy
Man, Mr. Henry. Even here where a lot of us live
by higher law, even we hold you in high regard,
Mr. Henry. You are much more advanced than the
rest of us."
"Giles, I am a man nonetheless. Treat me as
such. I came to bring my grandchildren so they
could see what happens at this shrine. They heard
me speak of it but did not know what it was. Would
you be kind enough to take them around and explain
what is happening. If I do I will again run into
the same thing."
"I would be happy to, Mr. Henry." With that
Giles took Sammy and AliAnn and showed them around
the orphanage and shrine. Along the way he
explained how the orphanage had it's beginnings
and how the shrine came into being. He explained
how many of the original kids were now living by
higher law and were out doing much the same work
in other parts of the world. He showed them the
never ending food and water, the bucket where
people dropped money, and the shrine itself. They
couldn't get too close because of the crowds.
Giles explained that these crowds have never
stopped over the ten years the shrine had been in
place. There was a constant 24 hour a day
continuous flow of people.
Then Giles took the kids in the back and
showed them the security system they had in place.
He showed them the net hanging up to fall on
anyone who tripped the release lever. He showed
them the barrels of oil designed to fall on anyone
who did not know the proper way in and he showed
them the communication system they set up to
forewarn of impending danger.
All in all the kids received a good education.
They especially liked the idea the kids themselves
ran the place and they enjoyed the system of
government the kids used. Giles explained it all.
