ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What marine mammal is singing longer songs?

Whales. British scientist Andrew Foote reports that the
calls of killer whales off the coast of the United States
have lengthened significantly. The whales need to sing
longer to be heard over engine noise from whale-watching
boats.

Why is it dangerous for whale calls to be drowned out?

Noise pollution could be a big problem for whales. They rely
on their calls for navigation, communication, and warnings.
Their calls are also used to find food and attract mates. So
it's a serious issue when whale watching boats make so much
noise that the whales can't hear each other!

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------

The Opposite Is Also True!

During winter months it is not unusual for folks to become
depressed once in a while. Certainly it happens more in
winter, in North America, than it does in summer, for our
moods have a direct relationship to the amount of light we
receive.

Sunlight in the winter, being less, is in no small part, one
of the reasons for conditions that cause us to be down.

So, here is a solution that works.

Oh! I know the medical community has some folks sitting in
front of extremely bright lights in order to cure severe
cases. I am not talking about that.

Also, we all know we can work at changing our minds, keep
our eye on the things we do want rather than the things we
don't want. That works, when you can do it. However,
sometimes being down is simply too oppressive and we don't
have the energy to overcome.

There are laws that govern all this. For example, thoughts
and feelings are tied closely together. One can alter ones
feeling by altering ones thoughts.

Yet, did you know that you can also do the opposite. The tie
between thoughts and feelings permits either one of them to
change if you are working on one.

Let's go further. Thoughts and feelings together are usually
the motivating force behind action. The combination of
thoughts and feelings permit you to establish a priority on
the importance of the action you are taking. Therefore you
give half-hearted effort to some tasks and go all out on
others.

Now, here is the secret. When you are down, who feels like
working, or taking any action? But that, too, should be
known. We have tied together thoughts and feelings, yet what
we must do is tie the third point, action, to thoughts and
feelings.

If one is down then, they can change their thinking to
happier more productive thoughts.

If that does not work, then try to change your feelings.
Often this is the harder to do.

If that doesn't work then get moving, working, exercising,
talking to neighbors, shopping or any other productive
action. That will work. at least for a while.

If boredom is a problem - get moving. If being down is a
problem - get moving. If depression is a short term problem
- get moving.

Thoughts - Feelings - Actions. All three are tied. Do one
and the other two are changed or affected.

Do the opposite of what you feel and you will change the way
you feel. Do opposite to what you think and you will change
the way your think. Act opposite to what you are doing and
you will change the way you think, feel, act.

The Opposite Is Also True!

How To Get The Best
From Your Pharmacy

Often we use pharmacies for only one or two purposes,
but they are very helpful for many other things. Besides
the pharmacist, there are usually technicians to help
with questions and clarification. The technician assists
the pharmacist and handle the organizational duties.
They will call doctors' offices and check for completeness
and correctness of the prescription. However, the
pharmacist is the qualified professional, and you will
want to speak with him/ her for any special needs.

Many pharmacies carry a very good selection of printed
information. I discovered this by accident when one of
my students printed out an entire assignment, scanned
it, and handed it in as her own. Besides recognising her
for her creativity, she failed. But it encouraged me to
spend time in a few drugstores and sections of food
stores. They always have informative brochures on
many different subjects.

Most pharmacies have blood pressure machines and
explanations of the test results. So if you suspect
hypertension, check yourself out. There are drug
interaction posters and these are invaluable for
cross-checking your over the counter meds with
prescription drugs. In order for your pharmacist to
serve you effectively, you should tell them all the
meds you are on. Many pharmacies will collect the
unused portions of medications and dispose of them
for free. Medication errors amongst the older population
is very high and this prevents a bit of this.

Some pharmacies sponsor and organise indoor
walking programs. Many druggists have special
training in conditions such a diabetes, asthma,
osteoporosis.

So the next time you are near a pharmacy, look a little
closer. And get to know YOUR pharmacist. Keep all
your personal information in one location. This could
save your life!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to
http://www.the-pebble.com OR order yours from
your favorite bookstore. ISBN # 1-4137-4723-X

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

"So you are saying that man must be still and
go inside if he would have peace and prosperity,
right Grandpa?"

"Yes, AliAnn. As the Psalmist says 'Be still
and know that I am God.' (Psalm 46:10) Man must
seek his Maker FIRST and that means be still of
mind and body. Go inside, no 'mental talking' or
'conversations', just watch and KNOW you are your
Maker - KNOW. Plus you must always be aware of the
admonition 'If ye have faith and doubt not ...'.
When one attains that point where there is no
doubt one is a master of higher law, then the rest
of life he/she lives by higher law with all its
powers and abilities."

"So why doesn't man do this?"

"Man has conned himself into believing that he
is limited, separated from his Maker. So long as
he believes that, he shall be. So long as he
realizes he is one with his Maker so shall he be.
It is a matter of perspective. Most men spend so
much of their time reaching for material goods he
has no time left for his Maker. Is it any wonder
he lives in fear others will try to take his goods
from him? He fears the government, his neighbor,
even his friends and relatives. When he has
nothing left he then fights to the death for a
cause. He knows he is worth something. Even if he
has not found it nor can explain it he knows. He
will then pick a cause that seems plausible and
fight to the death, for that at least fuels his
pride and makes him think he is worthy. Only those
of equanimity can see. All others put asunder
their relationship with their Maker."

"Thank you Granddad, for bringing us here and
forcing the issue. You were right. Now that I look
back, we were living a nice easy life. While we
took our lessons and had the knowledge we had no
cause to put it to work or bring about the reality
of higher law in our lives. We would have merely
carried on with our lives within that peaceful
community, not having any motivation or need to
take the final step. Maybe you are right. Maybe
one truly does need challenges, problems, even
disasters to bring ones mind around to seeing what
can be done. If man cannot find answers where he
is looking, while in a state of need, he will look
elsewhere."

"That's right AliAnn. Nothing happens by
coincidence - nothing. No matter how the
physicists want to explain natural phenomena
nothing happens by coincidence. All that happens
is for the good of mankind, all. Man does not want
to believe that because he fears death, pain,
loss. He thinks disasters are terrible. Yet out of
the ashes will rise the phoenix. The good mankind
needs will often spring out of disaster. Look for
it."

"Granddad, can we overcome death, living by
higher law?"

"That, AliAnn is a topic for another day. The
answer is yes. Yet it needs to be discussed
separate of all other topics. We will speak of
this later. Remember, Jesus said death is the last
to be overcome. He told the world death could be
overcome, yet we keep trying to interpret that
from the mental mind and not from the
understanding of a spiritual mind. Unless one has
attained living by higher law one cannot see. All
is only a hope. Yet when one, with a true heart,
seeks, asks, knocks, the answers will come. Of
that one can be certain."

The group was sitting around the fire circle
in front of Kenyata's and Mombudo's hut. Sonora
and Hemno were there, as were Sammy, AliAnn and
Sam. All were listening intently to the
conversation between Sam and AliAnn. The kids were
keenly intent on listening to their Grandfather.
They knew they now had access to all the world's
knowledge and more. They knew they need only call
for it and it would come to their minds. Yet here
was their Grandfather, newly appointed to the
Temple of The White Brotherhood and a very wise
man. They loved speaking with him.

Many think that the Temple of The White
Brotherhood is a figment of a fertile imagination.
Not so.

"Granddad, maybe we should go home and let Mom
and Dad know of the changes that have happened to
us."

"I think that is a good idea Sammy, but we
haven't been here too long. When you think it
through, kids, the sun will be getting up there
and folks will start their days just about the
time we begin to prepare the evening meal here. so
lets stay for supper with these folks and then
we'll go home. How's that?"

"That's okay. I forgot about time zones."

The rest of the day was spent visiting and
pairing off some household chores, like going for
water. They all enjoyed their day.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Umbrage: what is the reason we say a person who takes
offense takes "umbrage"?

The word "umbrage" comes from the Latin umbra, meaning
"shadow". A shadow is a "dark picture" - "a gloomy view", as
it were - and a person who takes umbrage "believes the
worst".

HA! HA! HA!

A small town doctor was famous in the area for always
catching large fish.

One day while he was on one of his frequent fishing trips he
got a call that a woman at a neighboring farm was giving
birth. He rushed to her aid and delivered a healthy baby
boy.

The farmer had nothing to weigh the baby with so the doctor
used his fishing scales. The baby weighed 32 lb. 10 oz.
