TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What kinds of silks do spiders make?
What are parasitic birds?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
If spider silk is so strong, why don't we use it to make
things like bulletproof vests?
Scientists are extremely eager to do so. The problem is
figuring out how to produce a synthetic version. Researchers
in many different places are looking into that right now.
Even the US Defense Department is funding research into
efforts to make and spin spider silk in the laboratory.
Why don't they just get silk from spiders?
Unlike silkworms, who can be kept in large numbers on
silkworm "farms" to produce silks, spiders don't farm so
well. Territorial carnivores, they tend to eat one another
when kept in groups.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!
The first video game was invented by Physicist Willy
Higinbotham in New York in 1958. The game was like a table

Podcasters prepare to launch video era
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Podcasting is on the verge of
setting off a video revolution and users of Apple Computer
Inc.'s new video iPod can expect a deluge of outspoken
commentary, religious sermons and pornography.
Podcasting, a term based on the name for Apple's portable
media player, allows customers to download audio, and now
video, segments for free to their computers and portable
devices. Radio shows are among the most popular podcasts,
but amateurs have helped turn podcasting into an eclectic
global phenomenon.
Apple's video-enabled iPod models, announced on Wednesday,
promise to stoke the fervor of home-grown broadcasters.
"I'm thrilled by the possibilities of combining devices,"
said 'Soccergirl,' whose opinionated and sexually suggestive
program was listed among the 40 most popular podcasts on
Apple's iTunes service.
The 26-year old librarian, who chooses not to reveal her
real name, already produces short video segments that can
play on viewers' computers.
The new iPods "will make it easier for many of my listeners
to watch my video as easily as they listen to my show," she
said.
Other early adopters of video podcasting are likely to
include clergy of all stripes.
San Francisco-area pastor Tim Hohm, whose audio podcast is
one of more than 1,400 religious offerings available on
iTunes, says the new iPods represent "a fantastic
opportunity" and believes video has the potential "to
inspire tens of thousands to embrace a message of
inspiration and hope."
The current crop of audio podcasters also includes
entrepreneurial-minded Web journalists, some of whom are
struggling to find a workable business model.
Media analyst Rafat Ali, whose paidcontent.org Web site
focuses on the economics of digital content, forecasts many
such start-up projects will fail due to lack of expertise
and funding.
"Producing interesting video content is really hard," he
told Reuters.
Success will depend largely on programmers' resources and
ability to grasp the complexities of a medium that is much
more complicated than audio, Ali said.
"It's a matter of how good is the quality and how do they
get funded," he added.
PORNOGRAPHERS IN THE LEAD
Historically, pornographers have a strong track record of
adapting new imaging devices and formats in a commercially
viable way.
Mark Kernes, a senior editor at the Adult Video News trade
magazine, said the highly-visible video iPod would certainly
be used for adult content, but that many consumers might not
want to show off their new material in public.
"Anybody that's got a video iPod is probably going to want
to have a couple of porn clips on there, just to have," he
said. "But you're not going to be looking at it at the
mall."

Can't Sleep? Read Your Food
Package Labels
Either you will fall asleep very quickly or you will be
jolted awake for the rest of the night!
In most states and provinces, legislation covers
what needs to be on the packaging - such as the
ingredients amounts of carbohydrates, fat, the
manufacturer, the "best before" date - things we
now take for granted, but it wasn't always like this.
But that won't cover YOUR particular needs and we
all have them. For instance, if you have kidney
disease, your doctor might restrict your protein
intake. So read what's in a bagel. Did you really
think a BAGEL had protein in it? Check your
dietary recommendations and the amounts of
daily allowances. You can enjoy the bagel, but
you would need to adjust the rest of your food
intake. Need extra fibre? The read the package
labels. Discover the taste of humus - it's really
delicious and as a spread on crackers, it's great.
And the fibre comes along as a bonus!
Salt restrictions in place for hypertension or some
of the degenerative conditions such as Meniere's?
Read the labels and wash the contents, or
substitute some spices.
Visit some of the food company sites. They have
all kinds of ideas and current recipes. They even
suggest cutting down on the amount of fat in their
own mixes! Do watch the "pre-packaged foods" as
they often need the additives and other chemicals
to make their products work. Become creative and
go back to some basics.
If taking back control of your health is part of your
new life plan, one of the easiest ways to start is to
read labels. If you want your body to work effectively,
you have to give it the right fuel. Not sure? All it takes
is a little education and a big desire to change your
past results. Bon Appetit!

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

----------------
Mazunta knew this was a time of change, not
only for himself and Eloise, but for the entire
village. He knew that with his two youngsters now
living by higher law, then all the kids they were
teaching would want to do likewise.
Moreover, Mazunta suddenly realized they were
all ready. His and Eloise's teaching was being
done now on the basis they were too young and had
to wait before they would live by higher law.
Nothing was further from the truth and Mazunta
suddenly knew it.
He looked at Eloise. Both knew what was going
to happen. They smiled at each other.
At the fire that night Mazunta rose to give a
speech. "This day has been one of both happiness
and shock unto Missy and I. Missy's Father had
taken our two children to other parts of the world
and upon their return they had crossed the veil
into higher law. Missy and I were not expecting it
and it made us both very happy and proud."
There was a cheer went up from the villagers.
They all knew what it meant for Mazunta and
Eloise. They were happy for the couple.
"Yet there is something more to this than we
all realize. Missy and I have come to know that
all your children, with whom we have been working,
are now ready to live by higher law. Tomorrow is
the day when they shall cross over the veil. All
but those under ten years of age, the ones we have
only recently begun to work with, are eligible to
graduate into higher law and tomorrow morning it
shall happen."
There was a sudden hush that fell over the
group of villagers gathered. This was a day they
had all been looking forward to but now it was
here they were not so sure. It meant all their
lives would change. It would be for the better but
nonetheless a change. They were all in deep
contemplation.
The young who had been taught the way were a
little agitated. They knew they could do this.
They knew they wanted this. They were excited to
know that tomorrow they would do it. They could
hardly contain their excitement. "When, Mazunta?"
"In the morning after you have each finished
your morning meal, come down to the beach. As we
have taught you, all will happen as it should. Be
not excited, nor enthusiastic. All will occur as
you want."
They all knew they were to remain calm, that
high emotions would only conflict with their
objective. They brought their training to bear
on their excitement and tried to remain calm. Yet
it was hard. This was the day they had been
wanting.
The villagers became more vocal and were all
talking amongst themselves.
Mazunta spoke. "Fear not for this is the day
we have sought. It will mean a change for the
entire village, yet it will be a good change. I am
proud of you, my people. I am pleased you welcomed
Missy into our midst and trusted her to do the
right thing. I am happy you permitted her friends
from far away to visit and grace out fires with
their presence. This village is better because of
it. We have learned a lot. Now it appears to be
our time to serve. As each one comes to higher law
they commit their lives to the service of mankind.
That means some of your youngsters will be called
away from time to time to render that service.
Living by higher law means they are now and always
safe. Their lives shall never be in danger and
even if they were there would be many others
coming to their aid. Trust those who live by
higher law for they truly know what they are
doing. Be happy for your children for they have
come a long way. They shall forever protect this
village and keep it from harm, both from within
and from without. This is a great day for this
village."
With that Mazunta sat down to the cheers and
calls of the villagers. This was a night to
celebrate.
Even though the villagers were happy about the
news they all realized tomorrow was a big day.
They knew the evening fire would conclude early in
favor of getting rest in preparation for tomorrow.
The young all gathered around Sammy and
AliAnn. All of them wanted to know what happened
and how it was they had come to live by higher
law.
Both Sammy and AliAnn were kept busy for hours
telling their story. Even interested adults were
hanging around wanting to hear what happened.
The conversations was wild. Everyone was
interested and commenting with OOOO's and AAAAH's.
Sam and Alewka sat back and watched. They were
pleased at the way Sammy and AliAnn conducted
themselves. Both knew these two would be a big
help tomorrow.
It was right for those youngsters in training
to make the final decision to step into higher
law. All had become too comfortable in this
village. Life was so good they had failed to
progress because of it. Decision time had come and
they all knew it.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Sack: How did the expression "get the sack" come to mean
"discharged"
In the days when most artisans and mechanics lived on the
job they brought their tools to work with them in a "sack";
and then left the tools and sack with their employer for
safekeeping. when the mechanic was discharged his employer
gave him back his sack of tools - he literally "got the
sack".

"I was in the hospital," Thelma writes, "and my husband was
visiting. He was trying to stop smoking and was chewing on
an unlit cigar when he got on the elevator.
A lady said to him, 'Sir, there's no smoking in here.'
"My husband said, 'I'm not smoking.'
" 'But you have a cigar in your mouth,' the lady said.
" 'Lady, ' my husband answered, 'I've got on Jockey shorts,
too, but I'm not riding a horse either."

"'Where there is a will there is a way', is an old true
saying. He who resolves upon doing a thing, by that
very resolution often scales the barriers to it, and
secures its achievement. To think we are able, is
almost to be so -- to determine upon attainment is
frequently attainment itself."
