Will the other birds actually raise the intruder baby birds?

Do parasitic birds get along with foster siblings?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What kinds of silks do spiders make?

Spider silk isn't just of one kind. Spiders have numerous
specialized silk glands that produce seven different silks
for different purposes. Dragline silk, the strongest silk,
is used for framing webs and as a line for spiders to dangle
on. Other kinds of silk are used to wrap cocoons and make
egg sacs. One kind is sticky, to catch prey.

What are parasitic birds?

Birds can be parasites too. Parasitic birds are birds that
lay their eggs in the nests of OTHER birds and allow other
birds to raise their young. In some cases, parasitic birds
might destroy the eggs already in the nest, so that JUST
their own young remains. Or sometimes the intruder babies,
when hatched, push out the babies that were supposed to be
there.

Priorities!

Stumpy and his wife Martha went to the state fair every
year. Every year Stumpy would say, "Martha, I'd like to ride
in that there airplane."

And every year Martha would say, "I know Stumpy, but that
airplane ride costs ten dollars, and ten dollars is ten
dollars."

One year Stumpy and Martha went to the fair and Stumpy said,
"Martha, I'm 71 years old. If I don't ride that airplane
this year I may never get another chance."

Martha replied, "Stumpy, that there airplane ride costs ten
dollars, and ten dollars is ten dollars."

The pilot overheard them and said, "Folks, I'll make you a
deal, I'll take you both up for a ride. If you can stay
quiet for the entire ride and not say one word, I won't
charge you, but if you say one word it's ten dollars."

Stumpy and Martha agreed and up they went. The pilot did all
kinds of twists and turns, rolls and dives, but not a word
was heard. He did all his tricks over again, but still not a
word. They landed and the pilot turned to Stumpy, "By golly,
I did everything I could think of to get you to yell out,
but you didn't."

Stumpy replied, "Well, I was gonna say something when Martha
fell out, but ten dollars is ten dollars."

It is amazing sometimes what we will do just because of our
priorities.

For example, some of us are so much into earning a living,
on or off the internet, that we forget completely about our
families.

At other times we are so much into what we are having fun at
we forget completely to get our selves back to work.

And others, of course, drift from one act to another without
accomplishing much and blaming the world for it.

And, yes, there are those who are attentive to every moment
they live and adjust priorities as they go. It is this
person who usually has lots of money, lots of fun and a very
happy family life. It is called balance. But it requires
second by second attention to who you are, what you want,
how you are going to get it, and what your responsibilities
are.

There are no end to interruptions, detours, confusion that
will try to upset your life. It is only those who are
attentive to their priorities who skillfully step through
the minefield of entrapment to arrive at their destination
successfully.

I hope your priorities for goals at work do not exceed your
attention to the family. I know ten dollars is ten dollars,
but there must be reasonable adjustments made when required.

Taking a boy to a hockey game, baseball game or outing to be
with his Dad, might prove so much more valuable than ten
dollars you will want to change your priorities. Taking a
little girl to functions, places and things she wants to do
is the same.

Priorities!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Prevent BP (Blood Pressure) Pitfalls

Your doctor has told you that your blood pressure
is too high and he wants you to keep an eye on it.
Where do you start - where do you go to monitor it?
You're tempted to buy a "machine" right away, but
luckily your pharmacist talks you out of it.

There are several easy, quick ways to do this on a
regular basis, but there are a some ground rules.

Use the machines in the pharmacies or supermarket,
but stick to one machine. The readings aren't the
same, so don't compare them. But here is a way to
compare the readings "fairly". Use the same machine,
at about the same time of the day each time you check
it. Wear roughly the same type of clothing each time.
And don't pull up the shirtsleeve: it will block circulation
at the upper arm. To get a comparable reading you
might go every fourth day, at about noon to the local
pharmacy (where you also keep all your prescriptions
and buy all your "over the counter" products), and wear
the nice cotton shirt with light sweater. Take a few
minutes to relax. Then put your arm, with the shirt
sleeve still buttoned and sweater in place, into the
arm holder, press the button and wait for it to inflate.

Don't believe the reading? Do it again, BUT wait for
at least five minutes. Keep your composure or the
measurement will be even higher. When you repeat
this, don't change anything. Get another reading and
then compare. Some food (salt) or beverages
(caffeine, alcohol), or medications can often change
the results. A "not so friendly drive" over might also
have changed the reading substantially. Did you
know that a visit to the doctors' office will really raise
your blood pressure? It's a proven fact and it's called
"white coat syndrome". Record your readings and
take the record to the doctor regularly. Pick up a
pamphlet from the pharmacist on how to interpret
the readings or ask them for help.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

your favorite bookstore. ISBN # 1-4137-4723-X

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

By the time Mazunta arrived at the river the
following morning the entire village was there,
everyone. He thought it was rather quiet as he
walked through the village. Even his own family
was there.

The level or "air" of expectation was high.
The anticipation was so thick one could cut it.

Maz smiled. "Good" he said to himself.

As he walked to the river the crowd opened up
and allowed him to the water's edge. The canoes
were all off to one side so the area where they
were all standing offered a clear purchase of the
river.

Without any ceremony, Maz raised his hands and
began to push as if to push the crowd back. They
did as he bid. They moved back and gave him a
little room.

"AliAnn and Sammy!" he motioned his children
to him. "I want you to walk out on the water maybe
four canoe lengths and just stand there and wait
for me." While the words appeared as a command
there was the inherent "please" in his tone.

The two kids did as they were asked. They
walked out on the water as if that was completely
natural.

The crowd had seen this before but not with
AliAnn and Sammy all by themselves, without an
adult present. They offered up their acceptance
with a positive murmur.

Maz then spotted the oldest remaining pupil
and waved her down to where Maz himself was
standing. He looked straight into her eyes and
spoke. "Go out to be with AliAnn and Sammy."

The words were not harsh but they were a
command. They did not ask her to try. They were
spoken as if Maz already knew she could do it and
he commanded her to do so. There was no
alternative to his command. She knew it.

She looked at him and then simply began to
walk out to AliAnn and Sammy. She looked right at
the two, not letting her gaze go anywhere else. As
she did she rose up onto the water and walked the
distance.

When she arrived she stood there with the two
others and was excited in her speech. "I've not
done this before. I know I can now. That means I
can travel, that I can manifest my food and other
things, I can heal!"

"Yes, Maruka. All those things you can do."
AliAnn reached over and hugged her and did as was
done to her, whispered "Welcome" into her ear.

Maz already had the next candidate on the way
and was working with the third. None of this was
difficult. All these people had been trained to
think of this as normal. Maz couldn't think of why
he and Eloise had not set this up long ago. It was
so perfectly obvious to him now.

Over the course of the next three hours he had
all his students, except for the the very recent
additions, walking on water. As each one did so
successfully the parents of that one would issue
utterances of surprise and thankfulness.

All the students had been processed. There
were about 10 youngsters who were in class but had
not yet reached that level where Mazunta felt safe
to send them. Yet he knew of the faith of a child.
He called them to him. "Do you want to go out to
the rest of the class?"

To the last child they wanted to go. "Okay,
come with me."

With that command, Mazunta walked out on the
water and every last child walked with him. The
whole village was amazed. The children could
actually do it easier than the older students,
although now it was clearly established they had
all decided to live by higher law. This procedure
was not a test, neither an exercise. It was merely
a statement of fact, more for the students than
their parents. It established in their minds the
truth that when they followed their teachings, and
when they followed the law and acted upon it, then
living by higher law was the natural result.

Maz spread his arms as if to take in all the
students. "Welcome"

The next step was for each of the kids to see
themselves back on shore, next to their parents,
and get there without walking back. One by one
each did that, leaving Maz, AliAnn and Sammy alone
on the water. They walked back in.

There was much happiness in the village this
day. The older villagers had become long
accustomed to the things Mazunta and Eloise could
do. They knew that David and Pam Wiley, Boolanga
and Karmuz and Sam and Alewka Henry could do these
things. They even knew that Ben and Helen Striker
along with their other guests Romano and Oomano,
were capable of doing these deeds. So they were
well used to folks living by higher law. That all
the young in the village could now do this, live
like this, was only a very deep pleasure to them.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Rack One's Brains: What is the reason a person who is
struggling to remember something is said to "rack his
brains"?

As used here, "rack" means "to stretch or strain by force" -
as a person is stretched on the "rack" or wheel and that is
a rather vivid metaphorical description of the process of
remembering.
