How many US presidents served THREE terms?
Franklin Roosevelt was the only president to serve three
full terms. He was actually elected to a FOURTH term, but
died a few months after being re-elected. Prior to
Roosevelt, there was an unwritten tradition, going back to
George Washington who declined to serve a third term, that
US presidents were limited to serving just two terms.
Roosevelt broke that tradition by running for third and
fourth terms, but after his death, a constitutional
amendment was passed officially limited presidents to just
two terms.
Why does cutting onions make us cry?
It's not the strong smell of the onion that makes you tear
up. It's a substance released by the cut onion. Onions have
an oil containing sulfur. When you cut into one, you cause
that sulfur to enter your eyes in the form of a gas. When
the sulfur hits the water in the tear ducts, you get
sulfuric acid, which burns and irritates the eyes.

Carat Buys More Than :60, Arranges
'60 Minutes' Exclusive For Philips

AM EST BY SELLING AN ENTIRE UPCOMING "60 Minutes"
show to Royal Philips Electronics in an exclusive
sponsorship deal, CBS has given media agency executives some
hope in addressing the long-time commercial clutter problem.
CBS wouldn't go into much detail, other than to say the
national advertising time in the show would be cut in half.
Typically, hour-long prime-time shows carry around 10
minutes of national advertising time. The extra five minutes
of content time will be given back to the show. The special
show airs October 23. Stories scheduled to be broadcast in
the special "60 Minutes" include the story of a former U.S.
Army sergeant whose Cold War-era desertion to North Korea
turned into 40 years of captivity, an interview with
basketball legend Michael Jordan, and a story about musical
savants. The first two "60 Minutes" stories will air
uninterrupted by commercials.
Philips' limited commercial messaging will center on its new
"Sense & Simplicity" branding campaign. Creative work was
handled by Philip's agency, DDB Worldwide.
Carat USA, Philips' media agency, put together the deal with
CBS--which marks one of the first high-profile media deals
since Ray Warren joined the company as president of Carat
Media Group Americas.
Warren said in a release: "As viewer choice and ease of
commercial avoidance increase, all marketing partners...
need to collaborate to find ways to keep viewers engaged and
receptive to commercial messaging." He added: "This is a
grand experiment."
Interestingly, whereas most big marketing network deals
these days center around product placement and product
integration into content, the Philips deal is more of an
old-fashioned marketing sponsorship--just traditional
commercial messaging.
While other networks have sold exclusive sponsorship deals
to advertisers in single episodes of programs, CBS hasn't
participated as much. CBS did sell a single-sponsorship to
an automotive for a Bruce Springsteen concert some years
ago, according to a CBS spokesman.

Cancer… You Can Beat it or It Can Beat You

Pretend I am your doctor and I have just told you that you
have stomach cancer...that you can have surgery and the
recovery possibilities are excellent.
Your choices, once you get over the shock, are
1. to make a decision to have the surgery and PLAN
activities for immediate follow up , PLUS job adjustment, at
home support, and a return to work date. You also KNOW you
will be well for the family gathering. Now things don't seem
so scary.
OR
2. You could decide that your life is over…finished. You
will still have the surgery, but now you dwell on all the
horror stories you have heard from well-meaning friends. You
decide it's not worth fighting…"Things never go your way
anyway"…"Why does this always have to happen to me?" "Why do
I have all this bad luck?"… you know the routine.
Also you do little post operative planning because "what's
the use…you're going to die soon anyway". With this
attitude, you are telling your body not to fight. You create
a very gloomy, hopeless mental environment.
Now I would like you to stop for a minute and decide which
scene makes you FEEL better? Which is making you feel
uncomfortable? Which one do you want to run away from?
Do relate to the first example…which causes inconvenience,
but is doable, or the second one which gives you a feeling
of complete and utter hopelessness?

"Next, kids, we want to go to visit Riata at
her orphanage in China. Can any of you think of
how we might find our way there?"
"None of us have been there. We don't know the
place. That's half way around the world isn't it.
Can we really travel that far?"
"No, you haven't been there. You don't know
the place and yes, you can travel anywhere you
want using higher law. Yet if you think on the
matter, carefully, there is a way. Think about
it."
"Dad," I think I might know the way."
"How's that, Sammy?"
"Well, some of us know Riata. We can think on
her, get a picture of her in our minds and see
ourselves with her. That would work."
"How about those who do not know Riata?"
"They can either come with us or they can let
us go and they can focus upon us so the can travel
to us.?
"Good! That is one way. Does anyone else have
any other suggestions?"
"Are Aunt Mae and Aunt Susan with them now?"
"I don't know AliAnn. Why don't you ask them?"
"Oh! I see what you are trying to say. We can
communicate with them and then focus in on that
communication. We can even do that with Riata. We
can call her and once we have established contact,
we know where she is and we can simply follow that
'line of communication' so to speak."
"That's right. Did all you kids get that? If
you hold Riata's name in your mind, if you can
envision her, ask her where she is. If you cannot
do that because you don't know Riata but you know
Miss Mae and Miss Susan then do the same for them.
Ask them where they are and they will answer. If
they are not at the orphanage, tell them that is
where you want to go. They will go back to the
orphanage for you and you can focus in on them
there."
"What if we don't know any of these people but
are trying to get somewhere where we have never
been?"
"Karminga, that seems like a hard question
doesn't it? How can we go where we don't know? In
all things you must realize you are to listen to
your Maker within. When you want to go anywhere
there will always be one or both of two conditions
available. The first condition and the one you
think the easiest, is the one we are now speaking
about. You know someone and you focus in on them.
The second condition is that you will have a
'pulling', a 'need' to go to a place you know not.
That will be your Maker asking you to go to that
destination. Go. Simply follow the leading of your
Maker from within. You will get to be exactly
where you have to be, and, upon arriving you will
be able to see why it is you were called to that
spot."
"I don't think I would have any trouble with
that now, but if I didn't live by higher law I
would sure have trouble with it."
"Yes, Karminga. Without living by higher law
one must learn to really trust your Maker within.
We do too, but we now know we can."
"Any more questions on traveling?"
There were none. Some of the kids were getting
chilly, being up high in the Andes and the winds
blowing as they do up here.
"Son, why do you hold yourself and shiver as
you are?"
"Mr. Sam, I am cold."
"Why, son."
"Because it is cold and windy here and we have
been here for a long while."
"Yes, Son. Yet you can control the
temperature, the winds and especially your own
environment. See yourself as having a shield
around you within which you control the
environment to be perfect. See yourself and warm,
not too hot and not too cold, just right. Learn to
have that handy when you need it in conditions
like this. Some places the earth is covered with
snow and it is very, very cold. You may be called
upon to visit such places and need to know how to
keep warm."
The boy closed his eyes and saw himself
contained within a shield in which he was warm and
comfortable. "That's better, Mr. Sam, thanks."
"From time to time during this trip, kids, we
will be showing you things like this. Coming to
understand and beginning to live by higher law is
one thing, yet there are all sorts of ways you can
use higher law and that is what this trip is all
about. Yes you will visit foreign lands. Yes, you
will see new and different things, but the real
thrust is to get into situations where you learn
to use higher law to advantage."

While being transported to basic training as a new enlistee
of the Air National Guard, I accidentally opened a parachute
in the rear of the C-47. The plane was piloted by a major
and a captain, and I felt intimidated as I opened the
cockpit door to confess what I had done.
